Precision 5510 issues with Thunderbolt dock

Q: Precision 5510 issues with Thunderbolt dock

We received a new 5510 laptop that works great on its own, but when adding in the thunderbolt dock we experience odd issues

1. If the laptop lid is closed while connected to thunderbolt, the laptop will hang at the Dell bios screen. If the lid is open while power turned on, the laptop boots up fine. However, the BIOS screen is still not visible on the external monitors, only when the OS has loaded
2. Dell shipped a new dock which had no differnce, and then I uninstalled every single driver and downloaded/installed in order from Dell's website, including updated Thunderbolt firmware and BIOs

The laptop is running Windows 10 x64

2 things I have noticed:
1. In device manager, the Thunderbolt Controller 1575 is hidden. Viewing hidden devices and opening this controller states:
"Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer (Code 45)" The resources tab states that there is a problem with the device
Of course, reconnecting makes no difference. I have also unplugged all peripherals from the dock to make sure there was not a conflict
Second, in device manager, there is no listing (visible or invisible) for ASMedia USB 3.0 Extended Host Controller Driver for Dell Thunderbolt Dock, regardless of uninstalling it through Add/Remove Programs and re-installing.
One more note - I am able to work normally after booting with the lid open successfully and then closing the lid.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Precision 5510 issues with Thunderbolt dock

I have the exact same symptoms with the same hardware (precision 5510 & WD15). the computer will not POST when it is either started or restarted with the built-in display closed. If the lid is open... all is fine. Ohh.. and when you do try to start/restart with the lid closed, i get a 2 orange, 7 white blink code. it will continue to repeat this until I open the lid and press the power button. This will then cause the unit to successfully POST and boot up.
I'm running Windows 8.1, and have installed all available dell updates as of March 28th, 2016

We have a Dell Precision 5520 that uses a TB16 docking station that all of a sudden is having difficulties connecting to our VPN. It was fine earlier in the day. We tried clearing the DNS cache and tried a winsock reset. THe drivers are up to date and everything.
Also tried to reboot the computer multiple times.
Even tried a K17A Dock and had the same issue.
We were finally able to get the computer to connect to the vpn once we used a usb net adapter to plug the ethernet cable into.
Tried plugging the usb adapter into the computer directly and into the dock. It worked whether it was directly connected to the computer or the dock.
It only does not work when we connect the ethernet cable to into the lan port on the TB16 and K17A dock. And only for the one computer.

At a loss, any ideas?

Several times a day my monitor – which is connected to my laptop via displaylink through USB – will freeze, meaning the image freezes.  My laptop screen still works, and I’m able to continue to work on my laptop, but it requires a full restart of the computer in order to connect to my external monitor again.  When this happens, the USB port the monitor was connected to will stop working  (see screenshot).  Uninstalling the device and then allowing Windows to detect it and install it again does not solve the problem, it still gives the same message.  I’ve tried everything listed on the displaylink website (found here) to fix this issue, but nothing works, not even bios or firmware updates.
I also contacted displaylink and sent them hardware logs, and they said:
"I can see the problem in the logs of the USB hardware just stops responding to our driver so we can no longer update the screen. This looks like a hardware issue and it would be best to contact Dell for support with this issue."

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?  My monitor is almost unusable at this point since I know it will freeze at any moment.

I have also a very annoying other probleem. When I put my laptop on sleep then most of the cases do not work this and when i turn my laptop back on actually it restarts. This is very very disturbing issue.

Title in the subject line pretty much says it.I've got a Dell Precision 5510 and a TB16 dock.It is currently running Windows 10 1703 but this issue existed under Windows 10 1607 as well.
Sequence of events/how to replicate:

Connect the Precision 5510 to the TB16 dock (presence of any other combination of peripherals seems to be irrelevant)
Boot into Windows 10 and enable BitLocker using TPM and a PIN
Shutdown and power on or /restart, whilst still connected to the TB16, enter your PIN and boot successfully
Shutdown and disconnect from the TB16 dock then try to boot - BitLocker prompts for the great big recovery key (what a pain)
Entering the recovery key and proceeding to boot is fine, as is shutting down and trying to boot again with the TB16 attached but if you're away from the office (and the TB16) and don't have the recovery key, then you're in a bit of a pickle!
If you've...

Booted with the TB16 attached
Shutdown and disconnected from the TB16
Booted to encounter BitLocker recovery (but luckily had the recovery key with you and entered it)
Continued to use the Precision 5510 away from the TB16 and restarted...then you have no need to encounter BitLocker recovery and re-enter the recovery key again

One you go back to connecting to the TB16 though... you guessed it, you need to re-enter the recovery key again.
I see two ways to look at this:

What's going on at a hardware level that is resulting in this behaviour? Is there something at a dock c... Read more

When my 5510 (i7-6820HQ + UHD screen) arrived one of the first things I tried was viewing one of the many 4K videos on YouTube (in Chrome), and I was disappointed to find that it kept stuttering / dropping frames. Selecting 2K video resolution (within YouTube) seemed to playback smoothly enough and was still better than the 1080p quality I was used to so I was happy enough with that in the short term and assumed that buggy drivers/firmware were to blame for the 4K stuttering, as surely the i7 CPU (plus either the integrated Intel HD 530 GPU or the Quadro M1000M GPU) would be capable of decoding & rendering 4K video at 60fps...
However, many months have passed, I've installed endless driver & firmware updates, and nothing has changed, if anything playback performance feels worse, and I've even found that watching 1080p Blu-ray rips fullscreen at 4K screen resolution results in stuttering video (even on 24fps videos) and out of sync sound in both MPC-HC or MPD - and that's with the EVR presenter selected in both apps. I've also tried setting the LAV Video Decoder filter to use QuickSync or CUVID but neither makes a difference.
Everything looks and feels like the CPU & GPU are doing all the right things and aren't working very hard (I've used CPU-Z and GPU-Z to keep an eye on load and nothing is maxing out, far from it, they're barely working at all - between 10-25% utilization depending on what I'm looking at) and the decodi... Hello,
After much troubleshooting, I discovered an issue when using the WD15 docking station with a Dell Precision 5510 laptop if the Cisco Systems VPN Client 64-bit software is installed and especially if Symantec Endpoint Protection exists on the laptop together with Cisco VPN (Symantec Endpoint Protection can manage the enabling and disabling of a wired ethernet connection).
To give some background, I provide I.T. support for a company that has deployed Dell laptops to its staff for many years.  In our environment, our Dell laptops run Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.  In this environment in the past, we've never had any issues using the Cisco Systems VPN Client with any Dell laptop that either has a built-in ethernet port or a USB ethernet dongle (including the Dell Precision 5510 when used with its included USB-C ethernet dongle).  But I've discovered ethernet connectivity problems from the WD15's wired ethernet connection when used with a Dell 5510 when Cisco VPN is installed (regardless of whether or not a VPN connection is active).
With the WD15 connected to the 5510 and with a wired network connection attached to the WD15, if Cisco VPN is installed and if Symantec Endpoint Protection is not installed, when after starting up Windows 7 and then logging into Windows, sometimes within the first few minutes, the wired ethernet connection will then drop connection (an exclamation mark will appear over the wired network icon on the taskbar of Windows). ... I recently bought a Dell Precision 5510 with Ubuntu 14.04 factory installed.   When adding common packages to get the machine up and running for work the display eventually disappeared and the machine just booted to a black screen.  I then installed 16.04 but have issues with the sound, touchpad and external monitor.
1) Sound does not work at all.  No speakers or head phone jack.  Under settings/sound it says Dummy Output.
I've been through this whole page, and updated the kernal several times.
help.ubuntu.com/.../SoundTroubleshootingProcedure
It seems to find a soundcard.

2) The touchpad does not work at all, and I have to use an external mouse all the time.
3) When connected via the VGA adapter to some VGA projectors the external display is dropped after a few minutes.  It will come back with enough clicking around.  I've used these same projectors just fine with my old 12.04 machine.
This is all extremely frustrating.  Buying the machine with Ubuntu installed should mean it works with Linux.

I used the Lenovo System Update (v5.07.0074) and was prompted to download and install (was listed as Critical Update) the Firmware to my Dock.  As always, I closed all applications and sat as the Firmware downloaded. I got the expected prompt to ensure I was plugged in. I then watched as the upgraded prompted me to install. Installation completed and everything appeared to be fine.  I powered down the thinkpad and disconnected. Worked from the living room, then went back to the dock. Connected, and noticed that before I connected the White light on the power button was illuminated. Shrugged, and pushed the power button. Nothing. I un-plugged the Dock, got a cup of coffee, returned and plugged it back in. Nothing. I then noticed that none of the pass-through power was working on the dock.  So, I unplugged it again.  Unplugged everything connected to it, and held the power button down for 15 seconds in an effort. All of this at the recommendation of Lenovo Support. Who, by the way, was very nice and well spoken. Nothing we did worked. I happened to have another Thunderbolt 3 cable in my bag, and no change. I powered up my new X1 Yoga, and connected the cable. No power. This wasn't passing power at all. I confirmed the Intel Thunderbolt app was running, and confirmed that Windows was not even detecting the Dock.  Lenovo is sending me a replacement. Hi all,
I'm really having a few issues with my Precision 5510's graphics running Windows 10. Essentially, I have two problems: the screen often goes black momentarily (for about two seconds) and then comes back again, which is really annoying. In addition, the screen's brightness sometimes goes dark, despite the backlight being on its maximum setting. I believe that this is a bug with the GPU drivers, but I am running the latest version, and there have been no updates since then. Has anyone else experienced this, and what would be the best way to fix it.
Many thanks for your help!

I've gone though all the posts about these issues from last summer but nothing really seems to help. Is there a newer fix that I am missing somewhere? Thanks Josh

Issue 1I purchased the ZBook Studio G3 + 2 months wait on the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to primarily connect 2 4K Samsung monitors.  When connected via the display port one will display at 4k while the other will only display @ 2560X1440.  I had bought a a couple of CableMatters thunderbolt 3 X display port adapters while waiting on the dock.  If I plug one of the monitors in using the adapter and the other into the display port both will display 4K.Anybody else having this issue? Issue 2After the computer goes to sleep only one monitor will wake up.  The NVDIA control panel still shows both connected.  Only way to get the second monitor awake is to shutdown and reboot. Issue 3I have the displays configured to go blank after 1 hour.  Once this occurs and I enter my password all of my open programs are displayed on one screen rather than on both.  This would be normal if you have undocked and re-docked a laptop. Issue 4If the laptop is opened while docked. One display goes blank and one is duplicated with the laptop screen.  This is not typical docked behavior.  I moved from an  Elitebook 8540W with dock.  I'm really questioning my whether this was an upgrade.

Hi all, I do tech support at a university that uses various Lenovo notebooks across campus. I have noticed a trend among the users that have a Thinkpad Yoga 370 Notebook and are using a Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock, myself included. Occasionally (every few weeks or so), one of the affected systems will show "plugged in, not charging" tooltip when hovering over the battery tray icon. When this happens, the charge indicator light by the charging port and Thunderbolt port does not turn on, the battery continues to drain, and unplugging the Thunderbolt cable and either plugging it (or the regular power cable) back into the notebook has no effect. These systems all use Lenovo System Update to keep their drivers and BIOS up to date, and I have updated the firmware on the Thunderbolt 3 Docks manually. This issue was brought to my attention because it started happening to me and my laptop/dock after the first few weeks of having it, and this behavior continued to happen for months. I would constantly be plugging in and unplugging my laptop, as I do on-site support in several buildings, and my laptop goes everywhere with me. In October I stopped using my dock entirely, and since then have had 0 problems when just using the laptop's regular charging cable. I am using a Jabra UC Voice 550 Duo USB headset (Skype model) with Windows 7, for business communication. Or, at least, that was the intent: The reality is that if I use any ports on the docking station, I lose connectivity in the middle of a call. Several Skype chats started out okay, and then the microphone on my end simply stopped working (I could still hear the other party.) Also playing audio (Youtube via Google Chrome) has also resulted in eventual loss of playback. I have had to plug the USB headset directly into the laptop, in order to obtain glitch-free audio (via the on-board Intel USB root hub). The ASMedia USB root hub in the Thunderbolt docking station seems to be the culprit: I have two HP Z24n monitors plugged in via DisplayPort, and it makes no difference if I use USB ports on the monitor vs. directly plugging the headset into the Thunderbolt docking station itself. Since the laptop has limited USB ports, I would like a solution to this problem, please. The ASMedia root hub is running on driver version 1.16.33.1, dated 04.02.2016. One last thing: I got driver software for my Z24n monitors on CD-ROM, but hardly any notebooks are shipped with CD/DVD drives these days - and I could not find an online copy of the software, so I could install the display profiles.

I have three ZBook 17 G3 that I cannot get a Thunderbolt dock installed correctly on. The first does not seem to want to install the thunderbolt driver, so that one's fun. The other two are having a different issue entirely. I have read multiple threads here about similar issues, and none have offered a solution for my situation.I have tried the latest BIOS, I have tried an older BIOS, I have downloaded the drivers and firmware(which won't install because it doesn't detect the dock) Whenever I plug the dock in, Windows installs the drevices, but gets stuck and winds up with a "Base System Device" that it cannot find a driver for. I have tried three different docks, and three different cables. All have the exact same result. Is there an obscure driver that I need to download to install that is not obvious in all of my searching? Any questions or clarifications, I'm happy to respond. -Keith

I just got a new Carbon X1 6th generation (20KG).  I started using this with my Thunderbolt 3 dock (40AC), that I successfully used with my previous Carbon X1 5th Generation. There seems to be some compatibility issues here. After using it with the docking a while (apprx. 1 hour), the X1 suddenly started to continuously disconnect/reconnect from the dock (each 2-3 seconds), before it permanently was disconnected from the docking and would not connect at all.  When I disconnected the X1 from the dock and restarted (without connecting to dock) the X1 Thunderbolt software and devices/drivers related to that on the X1 "went crazy" and appeared/disappeared from the device manager continuously (each 2-3 seconds). I needed to enter bios and temporarily disable internal battery for it to normalize again. If I then connected to dock, the same would happen after some time. I've updated Thunderbolt software, drivers, firmware and also Thunderbolt 3 dock firmware and drivers, so no more to do there. I have not verified it completely yet, but it might be that the disconnect/crazy_stuff happens when the battery charge of the X1 reaches 100%. I once connected the X1 to the dock when the charge was 97% and it was stable then (the X1 does not charge on AC when the battery is > 95%). If this is the reason, one solution might then be to use Lenovo Vantage to set max charge to e.g. 97%, but I think this is a poor solution. Some ... Read more

I've been experiencing general stability issues with the ThunderBolt 3 dock. I purchased Extreme X1 for work because of the impressive specs and portability of the device. Overall I've been very pleased with the performance and build quality of the device and Lenovo's software suite makes keeping everything up to date really easy. WIth that said, I've had LOTS of issues with general stability of this product. It appears to Lenovo had issues with the discrete graphics (Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 ti) which may have mostly been resolved with the latest update. I'm on a fairly recent version of Windows 10 (1803). When using the Thunderbolt 3 dock I still experience lots of issues where the device freezes or becomes unresponsive when docking or undocking. Often times I must force power off the device completely because the device is unable to wake from sleep correctly when docked. I have not tested whether device itself is unable to wake from sleep or if it's just because it is connected from the Dock. However sometimes the device WILL wake correctly but then certain functions will not work, notable USB data will not work often but will be powered (keyboard lights are on but can't use caps lock, for example). Or sometimes the VIDEO won't display at all (thunder bolt graphics issue with discrete GPU) however I can clearly see caps lock works on my keyboard. Note all mentions of keyboard here refer to a USB keyboard wired to the TB dock.  Also worth noting ofte... Read more

We purchased a new X1 Carbon 6th Gen with the new Thunderbolt 3 Dock Win 10 1803 and have had all kinds of problems. Bad enough to consider other brand alternatives. All Lenovo drivers are current, we updated the firmware and drivers for the dock. With that we still have the following problems and dont know how to resolve them1. The network connectivity from the dock to laptop with USB-C loses connectivity on occasion. Also when the user shuts off the laptop, comes back and turns the laptop on, no network connectivity is re-established. The only way to fix this is to unplug the USB-C cable and plug it back in. Sometimes that will lock up windows and we have to do a hard shut down and start of the laptop. 2. Running the display out from the dock is not always reliable. The monitor will turn off randomly. To bypass this issue we have to just plug the monitor directly into the laptop. 4. Occasional random bluescreens with a stop  code DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION. This error is related to bad drivers. Are we missing something. Is there anything we have to set in the BIOS to resolve these problems? I've been reading up on this dock and a lot of people are having problems with this dock and carbon 6th gen laptops

I'm looking at the 5510 to replace an aging MAcBook Pro.
If I choose the Xeon processor and 512 SSD will 16gig of RAM be adequate for me to use Adobe Creative Cloud? I do not do animation or 3D. thanks.

I have bought Dell Precision 5510 which I paid ~2000 euro. It came with pre installed Ubuntu 14.04.
However, this laptop uses Nvidia Optimus technology which is does not have stable support for Linux.
When connecting external monitor I get random crashes when switching mouse between integrated and external screen. I have tried to update to latest Bumblebee project but still have sporadic issues.
Another issue is that sound card random disappears and then I need to turn off the laptop, unplug the charger, wait, plugin the charger and boot the computer, at which point MOST of the time sound works again, or at least partially.
I have contacted Dell technical support which said since I have bought the laptop for the company they are not able to refund my money and take the laptop back, but they can only replace the laptop.
I have tried to update to latest Ubuntu but the sound issues persist.
Please, I BEG YOU, explain to me why are you selling PREMIUM Linux incompatible laptops at such high prices without telling people it uses incompatible hardware?
What should I do now? I am getting very frustrated, 2000 euro is a lot of money to buy a brick that I can not use? Who can I sue? Where can I get answers?
Did I just waste a tone of money just so that I need to buy a new laptop from different manufacturer to continue my job?
How can you let this things happen? :/

Hi,
I have purchased a Precision 5510 Intel® Core™ i7-6820HQ (Quad Core 2.70GHz, 3.60GHz Turbo, 8MB 45W, w/Intel HD Graphics 530) with the 4k display option.
I am having trouble in getting the video signal out at the native resolution of the external monitor I would like to use: U2713HM(2560 x 1440). I am using the HDMI output for external monitor and when trying to set the external display resolution I only have 2 options (for high resolutions)in the configuration panel: 1920X1080 and 3840X2160. No other options between these two.
Please help!

Hello,
I bought  sumsung V-nand SSD 950 PRO M.2 NVM Express to upgrade my precision 5510. right now I have HDD hard drive and no SSD at all.
I realized I need a thermal pad for this card and I bought a simple one from eBay 1.5mm thick.
Is it Ok for this installation? I did not find any information about it online besides the item code of the original dell one and it had no details about it ()
Thanks a lot

A:thermal pad for ssd m.2 in precision 5510

AFAIK standard SSDs don't need a thermal pad, but Samsung PRO series do, downthrottle speed otherwise under load. You don't need something with world-class thermal conductivity, the one you bought will probably do. Someone recommended 2mm but soft fluffy type (the expensive branded ones with high thermal conductivity tend to be dense, clay-like). You can monitor the SSD drive temperature using HWinfo64.

(I'm a 20 year software engineer, so plenty comfortable talking about and doing technical things on my laptop.)
I have installed each and every one of the drivers listed in the following post for a Precision 5510 on Windows 10, rebooting between each, and I still get 2-3 TB15 "lockups" per day.  In my case, the screens stay on; I just lose USB, sound, and network.  Yay!
en.community.dell.com/.../19677047
I also get a notification from Dell Command Update once a week that it needs to update the Thunderbolt Controller to ...250.  Which it's done at least 10 times so far, telling me it succeeded each time.  Of course, that was one of the manual updates listed above.  So something isn't happy.
Before I trouble my IT department to send this TB15 back to Dell, has anyone out there found a fix?  Is anyone out there using the TB15 reliably with a Precision 5510 on Windows 10 Pro?
Thanks!

I've had my 5510 for all of 2 days now and just wanted to post the issues and fixes I've found. I should mention my IT department had to update the bios to fix a hard drive issue as they were trying to image the machine. When I got it, I went to dell's website and updated all drivers immediately (on March 5th, 2016).
1) Touch Pad -  When using the touch pad, the cursor would randomly become unresponsive, pausing for 2-5 seconds. Updated to latest drive "Touchpad Driver, 19.0.15.2, A00"... no fix. Issue remains. I have discover that disabling the gestures has fixed the problem.
open mouse settings --> click on "Click to change Dell touch pad settings -->" go to "gestures" tab --> turn off gestures.
Also, I had read a dell's notes that this issue occurs when the laptop is charging and that it was somehow related to the grounding of the cable. That is not the case for me... it happens with and without any type of charging.
2) - External Display Screen flickering - Two External monitors (u2417h) connected via DP using a WD15 dock via Thunderbolt connection. The flickering started after dell tech support had remote logged into my machine to fix a different issue. They installed NVIDIA drivers 361.91. This was the issue. I uninstalled them and restored them back to 10.18.13.5894_A03 (aka 358.94, the latest approved dell driver). Problem fixed.   Correction, this did not fix the problem Screens st... Read more

A:Precision 5510 - Troubleshooting

Ok, so I've had my Dell Precision 5510 for 2 weeks now and still no solutions found for the display flickering. I've tried different display frequencies, I've tried only using one external monitor (with built-in closed), I've tried new cables... nothing seems to fix the flickering.
Adding issue:
4) This is already documented in another post, but I'm having the same issues...
" ... If the laptop lid is closed while connected to thunderbolt, the laptop will hang at the Dell bios screen.  If the lid is open while power turned on, the laptop boots up fine.  However, the BIOS screen is still not visible on the external monitors, only when the OS has loaded..."

Hello,I have just bought a dell precision 5510 laptop. The laptop is not turning on at all. The charger looks like it is working since the light at the end of the power chord is lit. Having said that there is no visual feedback that the laptop is getting any electricity. I am not sure if there is any light that is supposed to light up if it is getting the required power. I would appreciate any help on the matterThanks a lot Mark

Hello
I have all the latest Dell software and firmware updates, according to Dell Command Update. I also have all the Win7 updates.
5510 Thunderbolt Works With Linux Mint17, Win10 but not with Win7
I need it to work with Win7.
Does anyone have the Thunderbolt on 5510 working with Win7 ?
Thanks

A:5510 Thunderbolt Works With Linux Mint17, Win10 but not with Win7

Did you install the chipset driver?
www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails
That should get Thunderbolt working.
Note:  The current Skylake platform is the last one that will have Windows 7 support, so you may want to (or have your organization) reconsider running Windows 7.  Once Kaby Lake arrives, Windows 10 is the only version of Windows that will run -- this, just for future reference.

My Dell precision 5510 came with 256GB Samsung 950 PRO NVMe M.2 SSD. I want to upgrade it with Samsung SSD 850 EVO SATA M.2 1TB , which is a 1TB SATA SSD drive. The 850 EVO M.2 drive has two notches on it's M.2 port, while my 950 pro has a single notch (see the following images). My laptop has an 84Kwh battery, and not the 56Kwh, hence there is no space for a 2.5" drive. I can only install an M.2 drive, in the given slot.
Will the 850 EVO physically fit in my laptop?
Will 850 EVO work correctly, considering that it is SATA and not NVMe, and has two notches, instead of one?

A:Can an M.2 SSD be installed in Dell precision 5510?

No -- the system requires a PCIe/NVMe drive.  SATA drives are not supported.

I am trying to add a 2.5" SSD SATA hard drive to my new Precision 5510 laptop.
I need to order the required hard drive interposer/adapter and bumper rails to do this.
I have done chat and phone calls to Dell sales with no success in getting correct part numbers.
I believe these photos depict the parts I need. They are taken from this thread from another 5510 owner -
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/dell-precision-5510-owners-review.784464/

First photo shows the side shock bumpers to hold the drive securely in the hard drive bracket - I have the drive and the bracket - and the adapter/interposer.
Second photo is the adapter/interposer.
Can anyone provide me with the required part numbers for either of these. The adpeter is the most critical.

Thanks

A:Precision 5510 add hard drive

@Community,
I can confirm that XDYGX is the correct cable for 2.5 inch drives for XPS 9550 and Precision 5510 systems.

3XYT5 is the rubber side isolator ( you need 2 of these ):

3FDY3 is the metal HDD bracket ( some units may already have this installed ):

Hi all,
Precision 5510 (with M.2 NVMe drive and 84 WHr battery) here; is it possible to add a WWAN (3G modem) M.2 card to this?  Is there a replacement M.2 for the existing WiFi / BT card that includes WWAN functionality?
Thanks!

A:WWAN card for Precision 5510

It doesn't look like Dell supports any WWAN cards on this model -- meaning that there won't be an antenna for WWAN in the system.

Hi

I recently purchased a Dell Precision 5510 and I am now planning to install a 500gb SSD (M2), either a Samsung 500GB 850 EVO M.2 or a Crucial CT500MX200SSD4.

Does anyone know if  either of these two SSDs are compatible or have any issues with this laptop?

Thanks

J.

Hello,
I have updated my Precision 5510 with:
- Win 10 Pro creator update (installed automatically unfortunately)
- Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver_M56HN_WIN_21.20.16.4664_A10
- nVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-Quadro-graphic-Driver_K2H3H_WIN_22.21.13.8205_A10
- Precision_5510_1.2.29
- ASMedia-USB-Extended-Host-Controller-Driver_M8TKT_WIN_1.16.47.1_A04
Since then the notebook is really really slow (basically unusable).
The CPU frequency doesn't go higher than 0.7GHz.
Things are a bit better since I have reverted back the NVIDIA driver (device manager, NVIDIA GPU, driver, roll back), but still much worse than before the updates and CPU stuck at 0.7GHz.
Where can I find the install files for the previous versions? I am happy to install the previous versions of all the above if I get the install files.
Also why certain updates i.e. the BIOS weren't available from the Dell Command Update, but were available from the Dell Support website based on my service tag?

Thanks and regards,
Matteo

I have the thunderbolt dock.  When the machine is connected to the dock with the lid closed and I reboot the machine, it hangs at the Dell Logo and the front LED blinks  7 times white and 2 time amber.  It will continue to blink in this pattern indefinitely until I open the lid, power off the machine and power it back on (with the lid open).  If I try to power it on with the lid closed it will hang again in the same manner.
It will often then boot into the online diagnostics and run tests.  I've run both the default express diagnostic tests and the extended complete tests, but it never finds any problem.
The documentation that I've found indicates that 2 amber lights means that the laptop can not find the memory.  However the documentation does not mention anything about the 7 white blinks that happen between the amber blinks so I'm not sure that it is really telling me it thinks it has a problem with the memory.
When not traveling, I tend to leave my laptop  powered on 24-7 and remote into it from home to do support work off-hours.  If  our IT dept happens to push an update  that requires a reboot, this means I've got to drive into to work to physically reset everything so the machine will boot.  I would really love to fix this problem.

Hi,
I have a Precision 5510 with Xeon CPU, 1Tbyte NVMe, Windows 10 Pro. I have the latest updates for Windows and (almost, see below) updates from Dell.
Sometimes (once a day or more) the disk activity goes 100% on Task manager - Performance, read and write speed to 0. After about 10s the computer crashes with a BSOD.
Sometimes instead (not sure if it is related) the computer hangs doing any disk related operation or it is really slow.
There are two Dell updates that seem to be successfully installed, but if I do another check with the Dell utility, those updates appear again.
The updates are:
Intel Serial IO driver driverid FC98F
Intel Management Engine Components Installer driverid X37VM
Feel free to ask for any log info might be useful.
Best regards,
Matteo
