internet explorer shutdown itself randomly on more than 500 machines per a day

Q: internet explorer shutdown itself randomly on more than 500 machines per a day

We've got a strange problem lately, over a month actually.
Internet Explorer shutdown itself several times a day. No logs pointing to a problem are kept within time it was automatically closed. Moreover any other browser behaves the same way.
Tried to make this but no luck, the folder is emprty and IE still crushes.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

https://modern.ie/ used to supple several virtual machine downloads to cater for previous Internet Explorer versions, 7-10. They seem to have all been removed and no longer available as the only option is for a single
IE11 and Edge VM.
Here is a GitHub repo https://github.com/magnetikonline/linux-microsoft-ie-virtual-machines which has all the previous download URLs and there is an open issue https://github.com/magnetikonline/linux-microsoft-ie-virtual-machines/issues/14 indicating
that the VMs are non-existent anymore.
I need to download these VMs to test work for clients. I know it's old tech but it's essential for me.
Any idea where to get them from, or where an old archive download may be?

My pc is so slow that it takes ages to play a song in wmp11...etc etc.
Ive used tools like ad-aware and registry mechanic, tune up utilities, etc etc. But still no improvement. It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

The Internet Explorer 7 works fine except for one thing - if I close a window using the red X in the upper right hand corner of a window I get an error messgae that says:
"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. We are sorry for the inconvience."
It then has the "send error report" "don't send" buttons. If I click on either one of these, then all the IE windows will close.
However, if I ignore the error window and put it to the side, I can sometimes continue working. But if I attempt a process that may have an automatic closing (such as trying to upload a sale item on ebay) it automatically closes all the windows and I cannot list something for sale.

I have re-installed IE and the problem is still there.

I am running Windows XP, and Internet Explorer 7.

Is this a virus of some sort? Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

I found an answer to my own problem, so I will post it in case anyone else has the same problem. Apparently, this was caused by some thrid party software I had installed. to solve the problem I wen to:

control panel
internet options
advanced tab
took check off "enable third party brower extensions.

I then had to reboot.

This worked for me and got rid of the problem. Everything else is still working fine!

Hi there
Anybody use SKY GO on their computers -- I find it works fine on W7 and even W8 but it doesn't always work on W8.1 -- some machines --fine, others -- no way. Same software (Windows 8.1 Enterprise). SKY GO won't register the computer even though there's NO devices already registered and the device limit hasn't been exceeded.

I've been trying to get this stuff working on a few colleagues computers - based in UK so it's not a licensing / out of area issue.

SKY in their usual "helpful selves" say W8.1 isn't yet supported -- but it certainly works an several machines such as HP and ACER. With LENOVO and DELL it just fails to work at all.

Anybody else have issues with this.

(Works fine on Android tablets and phones - it's only on PC's where there seem to be an issue).

Cheers

Hey guys, hope someone knows about this....

I have a small (80ish machines) managed network that we protect with Kaspersky 10 with Kaspersky Security Center. There seems to be some bug with some of my XP machines. Some randomly uninstall Kaspersky, others just close it down until the machine is restarted or until manually started again. Security center control is completely lost in both cases. I have been over the offending machines with a fine tooth comb and there is no malware present at all.

I can't seem to be able to replicate the problem and there's little to be learned from the event logs. It really seems random.

Anyone know of a bug causing this? Any ideas?

Hello all

A few weeks ago my internet explorer started randomly opening to my homepage and, if I was already browsing, it would redirect me to my homepage as well as opening up to 40-odd other windows. More often than not these pges are almost impossibe to close down and more will take their place when they do, this happens to the point where everything freezes and I have to force it to shutdown. I'm running Avast4 and Zonealarm alongside Spyware Blaster. I have scanned with Spybot, Ad-aware, Malwarebytes and others. All have shown nothing. I understand that this may be hardware as I do have a quick launch key for the internet but as far as i know this wouldn't cause the browser to return to the homepage....or would it? In anycase when I tried this key, even pressing it a dozen or so times, the pages were a lot easier to close down than when even only 6 pages open at random.

It seems to happen in spurts, and sometimes when I'm scanning for spyware, although this is pretty much all that I have done since the problem started.

Any help would be very greatfully recieved.

Thanks.

Afternoon,

I've been having this issue for the past couple of weeks where Internet Explorer starts randomly on my computer and it likes to tab me out of whatever i'm doing at the time. i've done some searching around and this fourm seems to be the most common place where people come to and to use combofix (which i haven't started using and hence why i'm here).

Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials don't detect anything and for whatever reason i can't seem to get Adaware to run on my computer (best guess is a conflicting issue with Windows defender?) Anyways...

I can provide a highjack this log from when i ran it in safe mode, the logs don't save when i run it in regular mode.

Sometimes my Internet Explorer will randomly disconnect from the internet. Sometimes it will disconnect when I have left the computer for 10 minutes. Sometimes it will disconnect right in the middle of surfing the internet. It is only Internet Explorer because my anti-virus and my stand alone download manager will continue to be connected.

I have Windows 7 Pro and Internet Explorer9. I've had this problem before when I was on Windows XP and it only happens when I have had DSL (didn't happen when I had cable internet).

Is there a setting I am missing?

Hi there. A few days ago, I found that when I turned my computer on and started surfing the net (using google chrome) internet explorer would always open up at random times with the message, 'internet explorer cannot open display the web page' and the web address is 'javascript:clickRefresh()'. Is it possible that I have some kind of spyware/malware of some sort?

Also, this may be unrelated but this morning the moment I opened up Google chrome my monitor developed a bluish tint. Would this have anything to do with internet explorer randomly opening? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is my hijack this log. Thank you.

This started suddenly after a windows update had been installed, etc. Currently I'm running Win 10.
I use Chrome browser normally, sometimes Firefox. I will open the browser and begin surfing and suddenly, IE will open itself to random websites. I have no idea why or how to stop it. I have searched through the tools section on IE to see if I can find a reason, to no avail. I've googled the problem and found no suitable response.
Can anyone help me? It's so annoying and frustrating.

Ps. Not sure how HijackThis works?

*Edit*
I've used Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy. They find something, remove it, but when I turn off my computer, it says that iexplorer.exe is not responding, so that doesn't help!

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi, I found your site searching for help with this topic.  I am having problems with IE popping up randomly, even when not using it (or the internet at all).  My computer is also running extremely slow.  I have run malware bytes and cc cleaner and have norton anti-virus.  I don't do much more than basic internet searching and photo editing on this computer.  Can you help me get this machine running properly again?
Thanks in advance!

A:Internet explorer randomly pops up

Run these scans please and post the logs so we can see whats going on, sounds like IE was hijacked , be sure to download all  programs I link you to to your Desktop, our tools and scanners work more efficiently when run from the Desktop in lieu of being buried in some folder.

Please download aswMBR to your desktop.

Right click the aswMBR icon and select Run as Administrator
XP users just Double Click it to run
If it says that this computer supports VIRTUALIZATION TECHNOLOGY do you want to use it say Yes
Click the Scan button to start scan.
Select Quickscan on the dropdown list
If you are asked to update the Avast Virus database please allow it to do so.
The scan could take 20 minutes or more , please be patient and let it finish
It will say Scan Finished when its done.
When it finishes, press the save log button, save the logfile to your desktop and post its contents in your next reply.

I just want to see the report....Please Do Not Fix Anything

============================================================================

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your DESKTOP

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

Hello all,

This is the almost the same post I put up in the ?Web Browsing?? forum about a week ago, and after carrying out most of the suggested virus scans I?m still having problems. A few weeks ago my internet explorer started randomly opening to my homepage and, if I was already browsing, it would redirect me to my homepage as well as opening up to 40-odd other windows and occasionally tabs. More often than not these pages are almost impossible to close down and more will take their place when they do, this happens to the point where everything freezes and I have to force it to shutdown. I'm running Internet Explorer 7, Avast4 and Zonealarm alongside Spyware Blaster.

Just after the original post I installed Google Toolbar, getting rid of the old one (MSN I think) I was still using, for almost a week there were no problems. Then yesterday the problem flared up again as bad as ever.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi, Since the full install of Messenger Plus!3 comes bundled with LOP (live online portal) you probably got your LOP infection from that. I advise you to uninstall MSGR! Plus 3 but...you can reinstall it without the LOP and other bundleware...by choosing other than the Typical install when you run the setup for Messenger Plus...there is an option for a custom installation, choose that next time.
Or: we can remove LOP by running it's uninstaller and some manual work with Hijackthis if you like.

http://lop.com/new_uninstall.exe

http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/lopremover.exe

Try the second one as lots of people are prevented from going to the first site by programs they have installed...
Directions are: Close all browser windows and run the uninstaller.

When it is finished restart your computer.

Looks like Limewire was the P2P program installed...check for it in Add/remove Programs and uninstall it. If it will not, OK...
Then, post a fresh log and we will work on what is left.

Hi,
I have started having new problems with XP.
1) When I shutdown, I click on the start menu's "turn off computer" button then again when it and restart and another option, cancel, if i recall correctly are displayed. Nothing happens the startup screeen just sits and waits on me and the 3 buttons have disappeared. When I repeat the process it then shuts down. Why am I doing this twice? How do I fix it?

2) When my Hauppauge tv 2000 runs, especially in the initial screen, it freezes the video after a few minutes. If I switch to the larger image or full size tv image this does not seem to happen as often. How do I fix this to prevent it happening?

3) I have www.google.com set as my default home page BUT when I first bring up IE I get a Microsoft specified window. How can I force XP to recognize that I have assigned google as my home page as default?

Hi geosman in regards to problem 1 go to the following

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 267 Restore "Turn Off and Log Off" - Start Menu

Sorry I can't help you out on problem 2 maybe if you post it in Video Card Support Forum someone will be able to help.

Finally regarding problem 3, try this, click on Tools>Internet Options, where it says Home Page type on separate line www.google.com. This creates home page tabs. I hope this is what you're looking for, you can always delete it if it's not.

Good Luck!!

Internet explorer 9 will not allow to go anywhere but the homepage on startup. The program freezes immediately when I type in the menu bar. Here is the error message I am receiving. I normally use chrome (including right now, while searching for fixes to IE, haha go figure), but I have a plugin that links to my quickbooks that only work in IE, so unfortunately I need it fixed.

I ran Windows Update and there is an update for IE 9, but when I try to install it I get error code 9c48. I have tried every fix on the net to repair this, but to no avail. I have tried to uninstall IE9 and reinstall, but there is no update for IE9 in my installed updates. I have run sft / scannow and tried to fix the dll. I also have cleaned the registry and repaired the .net framework and 6-8 hours later. Still no IE, still no update.

I don't care about the update as long as I have a working version of Internet Explorer on my machine. Please help! I also have attached the .txt document of the cbs/logs with the erros from the scannow command.

Alright, hereís the deal. Iím running Windows XP and we recently downloaded Mozilla FireFox. Today Firefox and Internet Explorer will not open. They have an error message that states that they must be shut down. The message randomly appears on screen every so often with no real pattern to it. The only way to use them is to wait for a pop-up to come up. It seems to be friendly to those! Iím on strike 3 of typing this. Iím actually typing it on word and saving every so many tries to get this out before the computer randomly shuts off again, which also started today.

I have never done this before but hereís my Hijack This! Log:

I just got this problem on 2x Win7 and 2x Win8 machines today. (20 other machines are ok)

All happened within 1 hour of each other.  multiple 30-60sec freezes with any and all programs (all office, trillian, notepad, firefox, ie, chrome, file explorer.... etc) in normal (not responsive showing up in titles). explorer.exe would crash multiple times as well.

Works perfectly fine in safe mode .

ran the following (in safe mode with networking)

rkill (found nothing)
tdsskiller (nothing)
adware (nothing)
malwarebyte (nothing)
malwarebyte rootkit scanner (nothing)
eset online (nothing)

I then ran Temp File Cleaner, but didnt help a bit.

A:all programs randomly freeze (multiple machines)

It was bit defender that was causing the problem. Uninstalled it and everything when back to normal

Recently I've noticed that theres constantly at least one, but often multiple instances of iexplore.exe running under SYSTEM. Whenever I try to end these processes, they reopen within a few seconds. Periodically, an Internet Explorer window will open a random webpage (I've specifically noticed it opening dragon naturally speaking pages). Also, not sure if it's related, but my wave sound level keeps being muted randomly, regardless of if I'm listening to music or not.

I'm currently running Windows XP SP3 and IE8. I'm using Avast Internet Security as my antivirus, and am running the protection module from MBAM as well, which constantly blocks access to 94.75.229.139. I've run full scans with MBAM, Rogue Remover, CWShredder, Spybot, Avast (boot time scan), Panda Cloud, ESET Online (which turned up several trojans, though I believe these were false positives and their removal did not remedy the issue), and cleaned my temporary files with ccleaner, yet most of those programs turned up nothing at all, and the problem continues. My system also randomly reboots and a message shows up upon login saying that the system has recovered from a serious error, though I am unsure if that is related to the other problem.

I'd appreciate any help I can get on finding and fixing whatever is causing this.

Thanks!

My internet connection is usually fine and all my roomates dont have any issues with it. However, for about the last month or two, about once a day, my computer stops connecting to the internet. I do not know why and I am pretty possitive it has something to do with computer setting on my laptop, not the internet conection becasue I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the modem, but still no connection. Of course, when I restart my computer, the internet then works fine.

If anyone one knows how I can fix this, PLEASE let me know.

Thanks

Please help if you can. I have removed everything but my boot drive (SSD) and am running on board grahics. I continually get hangups and sometimes windows hangs and sometimes reboots and then wants to repair Windows. Today I also got a message saying I had no hard drive. UEFI is set to defaults. I am attaching the diagnostic zip from your tools. Thanks

A:BSOD while in internet explorer, randomly crashes

Welcome to SevenForums

Have you updated the firmware for your SSD? Bugcheck F4 is usually storage/hard drive related crash

Go through the thread below. It may help you with your issuehttp://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...exe-7f1c0.html
Code:
BDAgent "c:\program files\bitdefender\bitdefender 2012\bdagent.exe" Public HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
MSC "c:\program files\microsoft security client\msseces.exe" -hide -runkey Public HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Running 2 antiviruses at the same time is not a good idea. Please uninstall Bit Defender while troubleshooting

Recommended antivirus program for Windows 7 based on stability compared to others:- Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows
Malwarebytes - The Free version
Good and Free system security combination.

Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated

Let us know if the thread helped

I think that I may be infected. IE 8 continually crashes on me for no apparent reason, I get redirected frequently, and my computer seems to be operating a little slow then usual.

I have a Windows Vista Home Edition OS and have Windows Security Update 2 installed (this is a laptop)
I also have another problem, that I don't know if it is virus related: My disc drive randomly opens one me, without me clicking the open button. It happens at completely random times, I have no clue what it could be.

This started about 3 days ago, and I'm not sure how. I've run Spybot, AVG and other programs, but nothing seems to stop it.

Whenever I click on a link in my bookmarks, it gets deleted in the folder almost automatically afterwards.

The bookmarks that get deleted seem to happen at random. When I replaced the bookmarks and clicked them again, sometimes they are fine while others that survived the first round get erased, while some bookmarks remain untouched. This happens to bookmarks in completely different folders, and my history seems to have been left untouched.

Any ideas?

A:Internet Explorer is randomly deleting my bookmarks

Uh oh. Sounds like a defective hard drive might be the culprit. Go to the HD manufacture's website, download and run what ever drive checker they recommend. Be forewarned that sometimes drive checkers end in BSOD, so backup your important files first.
