Can't export messages from Windows Mail in safe mode

Q: Can't export messages from Windows Mail in safe mode

My computer is unstable at present and will only run in safemode.

I am intending to do a repair install and as part of backing things up I want to export my mail to a USB stick.

When I choose Export in WM, the option to browse a location to store the messages is grayed out and I can't type a location into the box.
I therefore can't continue with the export.

Any ideas why?

As an alternative, can I just take a copy of C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail
as my backup?

Thanks in advance

Preferred Solution: Can't export messages from Windows Mail in safe mode

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I am currently replacing my old computer with a new one and part of that process is to transfer all of my email messages from my old computer to the new one. I use Windows Live Mail for my mail program. I went to the Microsoft web site and looked at the Help instructions for  Exporting and Importing messages and found it to be very straightforward.

I created an empty folder on USB drive and then proceeded to run the Export procedure. This involved selecting a destination folder for the exported files, and selecting which folders to include in the export operation. Under my primary email address, I have 10 subfolders, in addition to the usual Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, etc. On the screen where I was asked what format I wanted to use, I selected "Windows Live Mail Format" .On the screen where I am asked which folders that I wanted to Export I selected "All Folders". Then I clicked Next and received a message that the folders had been exported successfully.

I then took the USB drive to the new computer, started Windows Live Mail and then attempted to do the Import operation. I chose to import all folders and then initiated the Import. I got a message that the Import was successful. At the bottom of the account list was a folder that was titled Imported Folders. When I opened it, the only thing that was shown was the Inbox and Deleted Items subfolder, and also the Outbox folder. None of the other folders that I chose to back up were there. Als... Read more

I have reviewed the threads on this forum, but can't find anything that exactly pertains to me. Please help...

I purchased a new Dell XPS with Vista Home Premium x64 which came with Microsoft Mail. My old computer was an XP Home machine running Office 2002, including Outlook. I installed Outlook 2002 on my Vista machine but a known Vista/Outlook 2002 bug keeps having me enter my password everytime I run the program, so I decided to switch e-mail programs to the included Microsoft Mail on my Vista machine.

Here is my question... how can I get all of my archived messages from my XP/Outlook 2002 machine to my Vista/Windows Mail machine? Whenever I follow the directions on my Vista machine, it gives me the error "Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client. MAPI is not installed on this computer or an error occured while initializing it." This message occurs as soon as I click on the 'Outlook' selection in the messsaging import dialogue box... I can't even get to the point where Microsoft Mail looks for the archive file to import.

In addition to this, I don't even know what type of file to export my Outlook 2002 messages into: Comma Separated Values (DOS), Comma Separated Values (Windows), dBase, Access,Excel, FoxPro, Personal Folder File (.pst), Tab Separated Values (DOS), or Tab Separated Values (Windows).

I looked for solutions on this forum and others, but can't find any that work. Can someone please walk me through this process? I would greatly apprec... Read more

Hello!
I got a bug one day while surfing the internet. It hijacked my browser and made my bandwidth slower. It also put 3 icons on my desktop. Each one had a very generic title so I knew right away that it was a bug. It also came up with a dialog box saying to the effect that, "Windows has been attacked by a virus." It also disabled all administrator rights to everything. I tried getting Task manager up and it was locked. It gave an error message that I "Didn't have the administrator rights."

I downloaded Spybot: Search and Destroy and installed it. I tried to turn the program on but it wouldn't show. So, I did what I would normally do, Try to boot in safe mode and then run it. I went to the f8 screen and chose safe mode. During the loading for safe mode, it flashed a blue screen and went back to a normal start up. I tried using MSCONFIG to get into safe mode, but now I can't even get my PC up because it is stuck in an eternal loop. I'll try to give any information that I can.

Thank you.

A:Fake Security Messages To Safe Mode Locked To No Windows

First thinks first we need to break that nasty loop you're in.

You should be able to boot up normally by pressing F8 before Windows loads (just like when trying to boot in safe mode) then selecting "Return to OS Selection Menu" (I think that's what it says, but it's something to that effect) and then selecting your installation of Windows and pressing enter.

This should bypass the MSConfig setting and allow you to boot normally. When booted, you should remove the MSConfig setting to avoid further looping.

I'll let one of our malware experts take it from here.

My computer crashed and I am getting various errror codes at different times some of them that I can remember are: 0x0000007, 0x0000007E, 0xoooooo8, and ox049. I am getting the blue screen of death and also get a message something like:
IRLQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EUAL

I can not get on to windows. It goes into a black screen after the windows load up screen with the little green bar..

I can no longer get into safe mode.

I have tried to fix my computer with the recovery disks and it wont fix it. It just does the same thing. Im at total loss of what to do next. Also, I ran the windows diagnostic tool and it told me all was okay...

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

upload your the minidump that you got.
Follow the instructions here to enable crash logging: How to Enable a Memory.dmp File Capture Using the Graphical User Interface or the Registry

nex time you get the bsod, upload the minidump.

something with hardware usually causes the irlq error, or drivers. we actually need to read the dump file to see what happened in detail.

I like Windows Live Mail because it has a better spellchecker than the regular Windows Mail that comes with Vista. My problem is that every time I've tried to install it I can never start it.All I get is "Please wait while Windows configures Windows Live Mail" then all the icons on my desktop refresh and nothing ever happens.I've found that it works in Safe Mode but of course that's not practical.

I have an Windows (Vista) notebook with outlook 2007, and now I have an new notebook with Windows 8.1. Where I want to export my mail & contact to Windows live mail, how can I import this in WLM on my other notebook?

I already have configure my mail on WLM where I can receive and send messages. I tried something with the program Mailstore 8 but my mail is now on another computer.

I also find this link: how to export mail, calendar contact in outlook to windows live mail clientWith the "Outlook Conversion Application" solution but is this possible on different computers and has WLM an import function?

A:Export mail and contacts from Outlook 2007 to Windows live mail 2012?

Don I might be way off track here mate but was the Outlook account the same email address as you have set up in WLM?

Just a thought you might try adding an account to WLM using the old address and password. I did this with my old account from my service provider then went to a Hotmail account.
Now admittedly it was still within WLM but worth a try.

What I will do is try and add my work account (Outlook) to my WLM and see if it works.

PS It added the account but I have to get the POP and STMP settings right first.

I have selected the addresses and clicked on Export/Import at top right of screen but nothing happened. I understand it should be in the CSV format not WAB as I used to export/import using XP. And ideas?

In the Windows Mail there is the import facility giving the options CSV etc but I can't get the export/import to do anything in the web mail.

A:Export E-mail contacts from Windows Live Mail to Hotmail

Windows Live Mail is Hotmail, with a new look. So I am confused as to what you are trying to do.
It sounds like you created a whole new name for Windows Live Mail... you didn't need to do that.

If you just open Windows Live Mail and logon as the HotMail name you will see all of the contacts.

This thread was previously closed due to lack of answers, however I found a solution.

When importing a csv file into Hotmail, the email address field is expected as "E-mail Address" however in the csv file created by Windows Live Mail the email address field is "Email Address".

Note the missing hyphen. This means that the email address is not transferred over to Hotmail.

The solution is to edit the csv file using Notepad - simply add the hyphen to the top line of the csv file, save the file and import it into Hotmail.

If you have the same problem with other fields, a useful test to see what field names Hotmail expects is to export a contact from Hotmail and then inspect the csv file which is created using Notepad.

Well the error message is as following

C:\Program files\Windows\system32\(INSERT ANY OF THE FILES BEOW) is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your diskette

Where it says insert it shows these. But it will show all in multiple messages.

xcikty.dll
aekmjc.dll
kljnin.dll
gijzov.dll
qrvuaz.dll
aozxuf.dll
qfmdtp.dll
ftrkce.dll
xrmqja.dll
rsthsi.dll
cxivwu.dll
tekcvm.dll

They will all pop up in different messages but the error message will stay the same but just use a different one of these.

My question is, Are these real windows files or do they need to be deleted?

Hi, orry if this is what everyone asks in here but would someone be able to look through my minidumps for me? I've been trying to learn how to do it myself but my computer BSODs before I have a chance to get very far.

Starting with the latest (I think):

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30713/Minidu...1-36114-01.dmp
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30713/Minidu...1-20592-01.dmp

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30713/Minidu...1-29655-01.dmp

This has only started within the past few days and has seemed to get progressively worse. I tried running a memory test due to some RAM I installed a while ago and disabled my wireless card as I changed that about six weeks ago. Still crashing even in safe mode, though that just gives me something about how Windows has encountered a critical error and has to shut down in one minute. BSODs include PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, BAD_POOL_HEADER and something about Windows and a critical area (or something) amongst others.

Any clues from the minidumps would be a big help, cheers.

This is a question re a system running Vista, but I usually get better results here (posted on Vista forum and got no replies). I've exported my contacts and my messages and saved them to an external hard drive. My regular folders were imported (inbox, outbox, deleted files, etc.), but I have about 20 folders that I've created for messages, files etc. None of those folders were exported. I did an online search and found some instructions for exporting folders which said that there was an option to export all folders or selected folders. There is no such thing in Windows Mail, or if there is I'm unable to find it. Can someone tell me how I go about saving all my email folders in Windows Mail? Thanks.

Hi andsome, I suggest getting a Windows Live ID by creating a Hotmail dot Com account, use it to sign in to Windows live Mail. Export your contacts in .csv format then import to new account. Now you will never lose them. If using other account/s, it/they can be added to WLM, use POP to access them if possible. You can delete the Hotmail account if you want.
P.S. I'm using WLM last release version of 2009, its far superior than the latest version. I have a copy if you want it.

Friend has been using MSN Explorer with Hotmail for 7 years on a now very old Dell Inspiron. Recently bought a Toshiba laptop (Vista OS, unfortunately). She wants to export e-mails in some local folders on the old (XP) laptop to her Windows Mail (WM) account on the Vista computer en mass.

We know we can forward every e-mail to her new account, but we're talking about 1,000+ e-mails. Many have attachments (pictures). Unfortunately, Hotmail saves all e-mails with the extension ".email". WM messages are saved with the extension ".eml", so it's not possible to import the messages directly into WM.

Does anyone know of a way to export a large number of e-mails from MSN Explorer in the ".email" format so they can easily be imported into WM?

I can export them fine selecting "MS Windows Mail" format and they are saved to the destination directory with what appear to be hexadecimal file names with .eml extension. If I move the files to the other PC on a flash drive and click on one of them, it opens perfectly in Windows Mail.

Here's the problem: when I try to import the messages from the flash drive using File/Import/Messages, select "MS Windows Mail 7" format or "MS Outlook Express 6" options, and navigate to the directory containing the .eml files, I get a "No items match your search" in the import browse window. I've tried the MS Exchange and MS Outlook format options, but they error out.

I did note that the export format option reads "MS Windows Mail" while the import format option reads "Windows Mail 7". Not sure if that's the issue.

Anyone have any ideas why the import function can't see the .eml files?

Thanks.

Hello Robin, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Importing the messages can be tricky. Copy the exported folder to your desktop instead, then try selecting the folder to importing them.

Depending on how many messages (.eml files) you have, you could also just drag and drop the .eml files into your Inbox in Windows Mail to add them back.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi New Member here posting his first question, can you help please?

I wish to transfer the messages in my WLMail on my pc to my WLMail on my laptop.

I have already set up my email accounts on my laptop so just need advice on how to get the messages across.

Thank you in advance.

A:Windows Live Mail Export/Import

Windows Mail has an "export" function and you can save the file to Desktop, transfer to USB drive or CD/DVD and then "import" that file to the other computer.

This will work for Contacts and Mail, but I've not been able to get the Message Rules to transfer over easily.

However, I DID find the registry entries where the Message Rules are stored and I transfered those over, but WM ran VERY buggy afterwards, and I would not recommend trying it.

Hi,

In my business, I recieve forms from customers in Windows Mail. However, I would like to 'easily' import the form details into an access database.

What is the simplest way to do this? (Please do not say copy and paste the details!)

How do you delete Windows Mail Archive Files created with the "File Export" function of Windows Mail ? Have Windows Home Premium SP2. All important Windows updates presently installed.
Did a backup in June 09, OK no problem. Did one today not happy with it and want to delete both archives and start over. After right clicking file name and seleting delete I get prompts from security asking if OK to continue and to give permission etc. Say OK to all but prompt keeps popping up over and over again. Finally gave up and took cancel option.
How can I get rid of these 2 archives from my "C" drive?

Hi,

Please note that this is not Windows Live (Hotmail) but the offline Windows application with that name. I find Windows Live Mail as a great way to manage my email, I want to manage my contacts there too. However, all my contacts are currently loaded on my iPhone (I have the contacts manually created on the phone a long time ago).

Thanks for your suggestions.

A:How to export iPhone contacts to Windows Live Mail?

If you want to directly export the contacts use a small application intended to run on your PC called CopyTrans Contacts.

1. Run the tool on your computer and connect your iPhone. You can download the program from here: export iPhone contacts

2. Once your iPhone contacts appear, drag and drop a selection to a folder on your PC

3. Select the type of contact files you wish your iPhone contacts to get exported in. Windows Live Mail recognizes Windows Contacts, so select that format

4. Your iPhone contacts will be saved to your PC. Now go to your Windows Live Mail application and import the contacts from the folder on your PC where you saved them in

I'm working on a laptop with Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail 2012 is not exporting email properly.

There are 4,008 messages in the Inbox folder but the export function will only copy out ONE message. A web search finds that this function of WLM 2012 is very badly broken and apparently Microsoft is not going to fix it. No difference in its dysfunction if it's set to work offline.

Exporting from Outlook then into WLM worked fine, but WLM can only (not) export to WLM and Exchange, which requires being on a network with an Exchange server.

A:How do I get Windows Live Mail 2012 export to work?

Open the blue File menu
Select Export email > Email messagesSelect Microsoft Windows Live MailChose the export destination folder, [Make New Folder] is a bit tricky, the Folder: field doesn't always automatically get updated, I just click on the folder above it, then click on the folder I created. As long as both the highlighted folder and the name of the folder in the Folder: filed match, you're good to go.
Press [OK]Make sure the radio button All folders is the active selection.
Press [Next]The export should begin and every eMail message should be in the destination folder you chose.

Is it possible to move email messages out of Windows Live Mail and import them to a Webmail account, such as Telus.net?

'mornin, Eljay!

Scroll down a bit more than half way till you see Set up TELUS email for your computer using Windows? Live? Mail 2012, see if that works.

I have exported this address book before, but now I can't. The words "Export/Import" no longer appear when I open the address book. The only icons on the toolbar are Organize, Views and Burn. At first, I thought it was a setting that needed attention, but I can't figure it out.

Friends
I've given up fighting Windows Live Mail [the client-side version] many bugs and have moved on. But I need to get the Contacts, and then the folders/Messages. Every time I attempt a .CSV Export of the Contacts WLM crashes [hangs, spins up CPU, does not resolve itself]. Anyone know the cause or cure for this?

Failing a cure of this yet-another-bug, where is the Contacts store? Anyone know its file Extension? how to safely copy until I can figure out how to extract and use?

Apparently WLM does not like any copies of OE on a system... it monkeys with Outlook Express system files when it cranks up - I guess they share stuff under the hood?.. dunno. Attempts to get answers to these various issues on "Microsoft Answer" are time-wasted, in my experience.

Contacts are stored here

C:\Users\Your user Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Contacts\Default

Try exporting while in safe mode.

Fairly new ot Vista and after extensive googling I see that Windows Mail's export only works to the local hard drive (heaven knows why). Evereything works fine up to that point. Then the last step - copying the export from the hard drive to a removable medium fails. Eg I put the export into a folder on the desktop, but it won't copy to a USB flash stick: it gets started and then hangs - suddenly saying it will take 20+ hours to complete. There is no conceivable space issue. How can I do this last step, which is the key step? Have MS put in a spoiler?

I've been wrestling with this for days. Help! Please!

Double check to see if you used the same method in the tutorial below. It has always allowed me to place the exported folder on any storage device.

I been using Outlook 2003 for 5-6 years and have about 4000 Outlook e-mails saved including a folder which contains all my purchased software serial numbers. I carefully exported all my Outlook 2003 e-mails before switching to Windows mail. I have discovered to my dismay, that Windows mail can not import Outlook mail and somehow in the process of installing Windows mail, my Outlook 2003 program disappeared. My old 2003Student and Teacher Office disk which contained the Outlook 2003 software is too scratched to reinstall. I have looked for some kind of Outlook to Windows Mail converter from Microsoft; but no luck so far. I am absolutely amazed that Microsoft would publish a new mail program and not include import routines for its own legacy mail programs. Outlook 2007 apparently has the same problem with Windows Mail. Even if I purchase a replaacement disk from Microsoft ( I have the orginal box and serial number for my Student and Teacher Office package, so I thick I could still get a replacement disk), I would still have to use two e-mail programs and eventually Outlook 2003 would stop working with some future OS upgrade). Any suggestions??

I am sorry if this question has been posted elsewhere in the Forum, but I have not been able to find anything that relates. I am trying to export a list of email addresses from a Word document into Windows Live Mail. I have tried to cut and paste, but it just doesn't work. Has anyone any idea how I can achieve this? Thanks for your help.

Welcome again to Seven Forums Wembley You'd want to see if you can convert the file into a .csv file that you can then import into WLM. See if these instructions allow you to create a .csv file

How to Change a Word File to a Comma Delimited File

Then use these instructions to import the .csv file

To import offline contacts into Windows Live Mail

Open Windows Live Mail by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type Mail, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Live Mail.

In the lower-left corner, select Contacts.
Click Import on the ribbon.
Select the file format that matches your exported contacts (.csv or .vcf).
Click Browse and then select the folder containing your exported contacts.
Click Next and select the check boxes next to the fields that you want to import.
Click Finish.
