Extremly poor performance

Q: Extremly poor performance

Hi, recently my computers motherboard fried (after 2 years of having it) So i thought, bout time i updated so i ordered the following parts:

EVGA e-GeForce 8600 GTS 512MB PCI-E, DVI Video Graphics Card

OCZ 1GB Gold Edition Memory DDR3 1066MHz PC3-8500 CL 7-7-7-21 Dual Channel Gold Layered Z3 XTC Heatspreader

Intel CPU Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 95W Energy Efficient 2.4GHz SLACR G0 Stepping

Asus Motherboard P5K3 Deluxe WiFi Intel P35 LGA775 Core2 Quad / Core2 Extreme / Core2 Duo PCI-E DDR3 Pure Copper Heat Pipe & Stack ATX (DDR3 Only)

And installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and i am experiancing very very poor performance, it strugles sometimes to even have IE open let alone a game which i am deeply into. On my old pc was a OEM version of XP SP2 home and it could run fine lots of processes, games and music all at once but vista jsut doesnt seem right.

Ive turned off all the aero glass and such and set the system to performance over looking pritty because i dont care really what it looks like as along as i can use my programes.

Screenshot: Task Mgr:

ScreenShot: services:

Now i know 1gig of Ram aint that much but ive used vista pc's with the same amount of ram with lower amount of cpu/motherboard/gfx capabilitys run alot smother with aeroglass on.

I know from the screenshots that it doesnt look to bad but thats under vertualy no load, mostly backgrnd programes. Alot of the time the HDD are at 100/sec Utilization (which from what i gather is the max) Going back to xp is looking like it will happen if the performance continues.

If someone can help to get vista working nicely without spending out more cash which i dont have much left of at the moment please post.

Also if im missing any info please post and ill do me best to get it.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

My wife has a pc just about the same spec's as yours but for her videocard is a 7600 and she's running DDR2 800mhz (2gig) and vista32bit
It runs very smooth.

the only thing I can think of is have you updated all the drivers for the motherboard?
is there any other hardware installed?

can you run the Performance Information tool to see what your base score is

you can get to it by right clicking on "My Computer" then click on Windows Experience Index (there should be a number beside it) then click on Update my score

First off, I didn't know whether to post this in gaming or hardware. Sorry.

My question: If there is dust on the videocard and fans or other poor condtions in my computer, can it affect performance in gaming? FPS wise?

Thanks, Andrew.

A:Poor computer conditions = poor gaming performance?

I think any build-up of dust can lead to poor performance due to heat. And heat can lead to crashes, BSODs, etc.

Hi,

I'm using Team Xtreem S3 120 GB SSD with Win7. The intallation was performed on AHCI mode and drivers and BIOS settings seem to be ok. However I get a poor perfomance. With SATA2 connection, I believe I should get seq speeds around 200-250 MB/s. Here is what I get:

A:Poor SSD performance

I think I have found the reason. My SSD seems to run as SATA 1 altough my other HDDs are on SATA 2 mode. Any idea how to fix It?

I have a MSI Z77A GD65 mobo, and in Windows 7 USB 3 is running very well with up to 120kb/sec on my USB 3 hdd.

Same hdd, same USB 3 port, but in windows 8 only 40-65kb/sec. I have tried to install the Intel USB 3 driver from MSI, but I get a warning, that the Win7 x64 driver has some compatibel-problems, and there is no solution yet.

Anybody know of a beta USB 3 driver for Windows 8? Right now I am using this version 6.2.9200.16420.

Allso my USB 3 HUB is only running USB2 speed in Windows 8, so something is not right.

You must have meant mb/sec, not in/sec...as kb/sec would be terrible.

Recently purchased a larger capacity computer. I wanted the contents of the new system to be exactly the same as my old one. Much to my disappointment the newer, faster, larger capacity computer performs slower than the old system. This is a comparison of both systems:

OLD--------------------------NEW

Intel Pentium MMX-------Intel Pentium III
200 MHz-------------------800 MHz
3.25 GB hard drive------20 GB hard drive
192 MB RAM--------------512 MB RAM

Both systems are mirror images of each other. Win98SE with IE6.0 and exactly the same programs installed. The biggest differences are with the CPU Load and uncached speed. The uncached speed is around 2 and a half times slower and the CPU Load about 25% slower.

I run all maintenance programs daily (disk cleanup, scan disk, disk defrag, etc). At startup there are only four basic programs running. The background programs are only what is required. No firewalls are installed or virus scans. Spybot, Ad-Aware and a virus scan are run at least twice weekly. The system is clean. I will gladly try any recommended suggestion. Thanks for reading.

Hello,
I need your help.
Issue description:
Low FPS in games; Witcher 3 went from 50-60fps on high to 10-20fps on ANY setting; same with Rainbow Six Siege and GTA 5.
High GPU Load (90%+) and temperature (53°C) when idle.
Things I tried:
Clean install of nvidia drivers with DDU
Driver rollback from the latest to 358.91
I would get normal performance after restart but the issue would come back within 5-10mins.
I ran the Rkill and it killed 3 processes; this temporarily solved the issue until a restart.
Scanned with Malwarebytes for rootkits, found 1 but it is quarantined and the issue still persisits
What do I do?

Hi,

I am having severe performance issues on a Vista SP2 machine, whereby it can take several minutes to start Internet Explorer and then 5 - 10 minutes to load a web page and sometime the page does not even load.

I have run a Virus Scan from McAfee Internet Security and a Malwarebytes Scan, both come up clean. Running the task manager both CPU and memory usage are relatively flat.

I have attached some basic info about the computer / OS. I am not sure what other info to include or where to start looking for the root cause of the issue and am happy to provide additional info if requested.

Kind regards

Run chkdsk, on the hard drive.
Open a command prompt, with elevated privileges, then type chkdsk /r

To get to the command prompt, go to Start > Search > type cmd.exe then right click on the cmd.exe, then choose "Run as Administrator" in the command prompt, type chkdsk /r

let it run, going to take some time to complete, then restart the computer.

If no improvement, go here: SeaTools for DOS | Seagate burn seatools to a CD, boot from the CD run the short, and long tests, look for errors.

If all checks out good, next will be to check your RAM, go here Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool and get the .iso file, you will need to use a image burning software like The Official ImgBurn Website or some other image burning software.

You will want to test each stick of RAM individualy, if any errors are found you will need to replace the RAM.

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I'm desperate, here. I think I'm infected with Malware and I can't find it or get it out! I have screen shotes of the two "ads" that are showing up, if someone wants to see them. Clearly they are designed to get you to try and click on them. They are both showing up all across the web when I visit other pages, too.

Here is what I've done, scans I've run:
CCleaner
Advance System Care
Spybot Search and Destroy
Super Antispyware
MalwareBytes
AVG Virus Scan
And maybe one or two more (I can't remember)
None of these are picking up anything.

I've done a system restore to the earliest point I could, and that didn't remove it.

I have a couple of programs that I tried to uninstall, but are still showing up in my programs too. I suspect they are malicious. I think I got them when I was streaming videos from a site I thought was safe.

Also, when I log in through my son's desktop and use either Firefox or IE, they don't show up. When I log in through my desktop and use IE they don't show up, but when I use Firefox, they do. I also created another user desktop and they tried through there and they don't show up on that new desktop, either.

I have also noticed that there are two files showing up on C: that seem strange.

Computer>OS (C:)>Program Files -- (which I've always noticed) and
Computer>OS (C:)>Program Files (x86) -- (which struck me as odd)

Any ideas? I don't want to have to take it in, but am afraid ... Read more

Welcome aboard  If Firefox is the only program affected the fastest way to fix the issue would be to uninstall Firefox completely using this guide: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox and install fresh copy. Also, uninstall Advance System Care.Registry cleaners/optimizers are not recommended for several reasons: Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.

The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.
Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "ba... Read more

I recently bought a second EVGA 2GB GTX 770 SC and have SLI set up, but the performance increase I got was a lot less than expected. I ran my own little benchmark with the first mission of the BF3 campaign on Ultra settings and my average frames per second only increased about 20 from about 90 to about 110. I decided to run the 3DMark Fire Strike Benchmark to check if I am really getting the performance I should and it turns out I'm not. I compared my results to Legit Review's results and my GPU score of barely over 11000 is over 3000 less than theirs on the normal test. On the extreme test, my result of just over 5200 is significantly less than the site's result of 6700. What is going on here? I'm very frustrated. I already tried reinstalling the latest 337.88 driver and chose to clean install but the benchmarks are still yielding the same results.

After having rather high hopes for SSD Performance...I'm disappointed.
I'm glad I got a test unit, because if I would've shelled out the cabbage for this, I'd be a little PO'd.

I have an 8300 Quad Core 2.5 Intel with 4GB of RAM running W7 Pro 64 Bit.
Instead of trying to clone the old drive, I did what I thought was right and did a fresh install.

I loaded up MSE, Office 2010 and all Windows Updates.
Did a couple of tweaks (made sure defrag was off, DMA mode on instead of PIO, disabled indexing)

I have all the latest chipset, mobo, video, etc., drivers.

Yes, it boots into Windows to the desktop faster. No doubt.
Yes, it opens up windows faster and programs SOMETIMES as well.

But it multitasks terrible. If I'm download, installing, etc., anything...and try to move program to program, it's slow. To the point I think it's freezing up.

I've read a few of the tweaks here...and I'm missing something I think.

It's an Imation 2.5" M series 64GB drive. I know it's not the Vertex 2...but it has pretty decent specs behind it. Not the best, but it should do everything my SATA platter drive does better...period.

It doesn't.

What should I be looking for? (It shipped with the latest firmware, and trim is turned on...not like that matters since I only installed Win7Pro fresh a few hours ago...)

Hi,

Recently I've been having some problems with my laptop. I've had it for five months now. Basically performance is at quite a poor level, it's very noisy, very hot, and running around 70 processes generally. CPU usage is high and so doing basic things such as browsing the internet is really stressing the laptop out and I'm getting lag. I don't know if this is related to some malware or something else.

I'm on Windows Vista so I have run DSS to get a log. The extra log is attached.

My stepdaughter has a one-year-old Toshiba laptop running Windows Vista and the thing is painfully slow.
I did a little research before posting this. Her computer sat for several months with a discharged battery. I bought a new charger, got the thing running, loaded the 52 upgrades. I did what I could to reduce the processes in the tray so that the system is not being asked to do any more than reasonable, menial tasks.
Granted, it only has 512 meg RAM, but this is the minimum requirement. It's the "Basic User" version of Vista, the machine was bought a couple of years ago and I was a little surprised it didn't have one gig. But I'm sure that Toshiba didn't intend for the machine to be this slow.
Let's say Internet Explorer version 8 is running, and you click on anything else, it just sits there for several minutes before displaying a hollow screen, which takes more minutes to fill in. It says this is a dual core Pentium running at a little under 2 MHz. I ran the "System Resources", or something, utility that's available from the task monitor (something new, not in XP) which shows the system RAM to be around 80% utilized. It seems like it's thrashing, but why?
I am new with Vista, but comparing this system to my wife's five or six-year-old Compaq, running XP with a similar clock speed, the same amount of RAM, and a single core processor, she can run circles around her daughter. Is this typical? I feel like the answer's going to be a resounding, "put so... Read more

Vista works better with more then 2Gigs of RAM, so I would upgrade. 512Megs was fine a decade ago, but not any more.

Hello.
I have noticed that recently my computer has slowed down considerably. I first noticed it when it stutters to play the opening .wav sounds on startup, continued by a very slow load time when opening Firefox or even the start menu once windows is booted. On top of that, game performance has also taken a hit (longer load times, slower FPS). I have ran Adware, Spybot, and Spyware blaster. Adware didnt find anyting, Spyware blaster found a few things, but I removed them. Also ran an anti-virus scan and defrag with the Windows defragger, with no results. The Panda spyware/malware detector can not complete either because it freezes while scanning C:/ndtlr or something of the like. Here's my Hijack This log. I cant think of anything that I may have changed or installed that could have induced this.

Hello,

I'm new to the Win 7 community and i already have a problem. I just installed Win 7 x64 4 days ago because everyone was telling me how well it runs but i had a big surprise.
The instalation was fast , after that i installed the sound driver ( because i needed the control pannel to configure my surround system ) and the video drivers ( for the control center ). After that all the other programs i usually use.
The problem is that everything i do it runs very slow. If for example i install a game and try doing something at the same time...
And also games/programs take very long to launch. This didn't happen in vista.
I really could use some help to identify the problem...

BTW my specs are:

Hey everybody,

A family member brought me their laptop, complaining that is was running slow. It is an HP with Windows 8 that has not been used very much. It is definitely running slow; in both internet and non-internet functions.

I ran a scan with MBAM and found nothing.

This is my first experience with Windows 8. I checked the task manager, looking for clues, everything seemed normal to me. Usually I would suspect some sort of malware, but I don't see a trace.

Does anyone else know of an issue like this? Is it possible that there is no malware and something is just not set up correctly? Are there any other scans I should try?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've had this laptop for at least two weeks and I hadn't had problems until today. The thing is, I had already gotten used to the fact that, despite being playable by low-end computers, most of my games would be consistently capped at 30fps as long as the laptop wasn't plugged in. And I was okay with that. However, today it started to have grave issues with the performance, being unable to run games with almost no requirements faster than ~40 fps. And it doesn't improve whether the laptop is plugged or not.I've tried messing with both intel's and Nvidia's graphic settings and none of them worked. So, any way to solve this? P.S.: Also, is it even possible to remove the framerate cap when on battery mode? As I've previously stated, most of my games aren't even that demanding, yet they remain locked at 30fps.

Hello. I wasn't sure where to put this, so I put it here.

My computer, even since I got it, has never ran as well as it's suppose to.

My Specs
Video: GeForce 8800 GT
Ram: 3.5 GB DDR2
Processor: Pentium D 2.8 GHz (or 2.4) Dual-Core
Power: 750 watts

Not sure if I'm missing anything. I have to play Star Wars Jedi Academy on lowest with a bunch of lag, Killing Floor on low to be smooth in most areas, and Call of Duty 4 and 6 (haven't tried others) on low with a bunch of lag. My computer's specs should easily be able to run these games, especially Star Wars, it being made back in 2003.

I've ruled out ram, video card, and hard-drives as problems. It could be power supply, or processor. But until I get those checked out, does anyone have any ideas? Is it possible I'm not getting enough power to my entire computer?

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 500-1QT Notebook with Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit installed.

In fact what happens is that the internet connection stops working for a while, than comes back, then stops working again...It's like sobbing.

I applied also the optimizations from SpeedGuide.net :: The Broadband Guide, but they didn't help me so much.

I just discovered that my Samsung SSD (830 series, MZ-7PC064D/EU) shows a very poor write performance (161 MB) though my read performance is pretty fair (448 MB).

I searched the web for a while now and tried every suggestion anyone wrote - nothing worked, my speed stays low (in comparison to values other users of this SSD get: ~500MB read ~300MB write - without RAID!)

Here are my system specifications:
Mainboard: M4A87TD EVO
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
RAM: 8GB 1333 MHz
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, up to date

My SSD is plugged into the first SATA connector. All my drivers, my BIOS and the SSD's firmware are the latest ones, TRIM and AHCI are activated, all the usual SSD tweaks have been made (no defragmentation, no search indexing etc.).
I tried:
using the Microsoft AHCI driver instead of the AMD SATA one
disabling the write cache
installing the latest chipset drivers provided on AMD's website
installing the latest chipset drivers provided on ASUS' website
forcing SATA 6gb/s support in the BIOS
I really don't know what I should try next - any suggestions?

A:poor SSD write performance

The write number of 161 is considerably faster than many SSDs.

Are you disappointed only because of the benchmark?

The most important factor is access time and that looks fine.

I've got broadband cable service at 3000 kbps(?). I just tested using BroadbandReports.com and I'm getting 129 kbps download and 219 kbps upload! Obviously there's something goofy going on.

I've already run Ad-Aware and Spybot and have Microsoft AntiSpyware, SpyBlaster and AVG running full time. The PC is as clean as I can get it at this point.

Edited to add - I just powered down the modem and router for 10 seconds, and also disconnected the modem cable and reset things. It did speed things up, but this hasn't worked in the past few weeks so I'm not sure. I also retested the speeds and I'm now at 149 kbps download and 218 kbps upload, so the download is still an issue.

Any suggestions on the next step to find out what's going on?

Thanks.

Dude, call your ISP and get a tech support rep on a phone. If the problem can't be resolved over the phone, have them send a cable guy to your house to check your lines. If this problem just appeared recently from out of nowhere, your ISP is probably experiencing network bandwidth problems. Call them up and complain and get a tech support case generated.

Greetings,

I recently had the opportunity to purchase a matching WD Raptor ADFD 74GB hard drive and set them up in a RAID-0 array to to host Windows 7. I downloaded the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver and enabled Write-Back Caching, but I don't seem to get the same results some others have posted. Before I setup the Raid-0 array, Windows was installed on a single Seagate Barracuda 500GB and Windows Experience Index gave it a rating of 5.9, but the new Raid-0 array only scores 5.7.

I have attached a copy of the HD Tune Pro benchmark results that shows the Raid-0 array is indeed faster than the single Seagate drive, but not by that much. Here is some basic system info:

- Intel ICH10R Raid Controller on Gigabyte GA-E45-UD3LR Motherboard.
- Raid-0 Stripe set at 32k
- Write-Back Caching Enabled
- Windows 7 64bit

I would sincerely appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

I've noticed that in recent times, watching streaming videos (already loaded and buffered) has been suffering from random stuttering. I've also noticed that gaming stuttered quite often, with high settings stuttering as much as low settings.

It's not overheating, I've defragged multiple times in the last week, and the computer was bought in February - not even a year old (although used heavily). I've run virus scans, malware, etc. and they've come up either clean, or I've fixed them. I've run PC optimization software and close most unnecessary processes before gaming.

I was wondering, could it be possible that a part has deteriorated to the point of not performing so well? Or in the video case, perhaps I've got an issue with Flash?

A:Poor Performance, but not overheating?

It is possible that a piece of hardware (whether it be your video card, processor, etc) has been heated to an extent where efficiency is diminished, and that's my guess as to what your problem is. I would recommend running a program telling you the temperature. My personal preference is HD Health, but I'm sure there are plenty more to choose from.

If the temperature is high, then purchase a new fan, or move the computer to a location where better ventilation can be achieved.

If the temperature seems normal, then I apologize, but I am out of ideas. I hope I was able to help you in some way, and good luck.

Gentlemen?,
I recently bought a Precision T5500 that arrived with a PERC 6/i controller and 146GB 15K SAS drive.  The SAS drive performed very well for a mech'l drive- on Passmark Performance Test scoring 1208 on the composite disk benchmark.
This was impressive enough that I decided to give SAS a whirl-literally- and bought a Dell 300GB 15K SAS drive.  The idea was to add a spare Samsung 840 250GB SSD as OS /applications drive and the data files would run on the 300GB SAS. and later add a RAID 1 of those.
However, when I added the 840 SSD on HDD0, the Passmark disk score for the Samsung was only 1128- lower than the SAS drive.  The 840 had scored 2600+ in it's former use on a desktop SATA III controller.
I updated the firmware and driver for the PERC, verified AHCI, and whatever I could,  but can't see the problem so far.  I've read several comments of poor SSD performance on the 6/i but without explanation for it. On Passmark baselines there are a couple of T5500's with high disk scores- 6871 and 3469 and six T7500 systems above 3000. The single T3500 with a 6/i= 4820.  The fastest single mech'l drives on Passmark - which are 15K SAS- will score about 1400. I assume the top scores- over 5000- are probably a RAID 0 of SSD's and the second tier a fast single SSD.
With the poor score on the 6/i,  I tried the Samsung 840 on the SATA 2 channel 0 and it scored 2532- double the PERC score and closer to i... Read more

A:Poor SSD performance on PERC 6/.i

The PERC is an enterprise-class controller and requires enterprise-class drives. Enterprise-class SSD's are expensive, and although SSD technology is supported on a PERC 6, certified drives will likely be required for optimal performance. Although the T5500 is a desktop, it is designed with server-grade/enterprise-class components and should be treated differently than a regular consumer desktop.

Not sure if I can post here but.

I have been playing WoW in a 4GB Windows 7 computer for years and nothing every became problematic. The only difference is that back then the hard drive was a 7200 RPM desktop drive. Currently it is a 5400 RPM notebook drive. But prior to that, I had also been running my system off another notebook drive.

Now. Windows 8.1.

Whenever I just have few programs open (WoW, Opera, Thunderbir) my system will grind to a halt. This is because it starts 'thrashing the swap'. On a netbook that I had, Windows never used more than 1GB of ram. Windows 8.1 never used more than 1GB of ram. It did slow down a little at times so I put in an extra 1GB and after that I still never saw my usage rise about 1GB or 1.2GB but the system performed better.

Now on this desktop computer with 4GB and WoW using about 1.2 GB, the performance is abysmal.

Now when I turn the page file off, that obviously doesn't happen. But now I get out of memory errors even when there is still like 800 MB free / in the cache. Not only is it annoying to get these errors, WoW actually reports out of memory errors itself. There is RAM available but it can't allocate. That is just stupid you know. And if it does allocate, it is probably be going to allocate virtual memory off disk, in one way or another.

Never had ANY problem playing WoW on the same computer in Windows 7.

Now, all the time memory problems.

Hello,

I am trying to resolve an issue on my parents PC.

It had been getting slower and slower, coming to an almost dead stop last week. I regulalry got asked to check things out, which usually meant allowing the pc to do updates for Windows / Java / Microsoft Security Essentials.

Most recently, MSE kept cleaning and freezing the whole machine. I booted into safe mode, downloaded Malwarebytes and cleaned some trojans and ran MSe in safe mode, which was fine.

However, as soon as I booted normally, MSE would start cleaning and hang the whole machine.

I managed to stop MSE via msconfig, but windows update wouldn;t work and any links to Microsoft knowledge base artciles would just re-direct to the MS home page, I knew something was up.

I'm hoping you guys can help, I attach the DDS logs as requested. I await your advice.

Kind Regards
Jamie McDonald

I recently added 2GB of memory to my P4P800 for a total of 4GB, and immediately began experiencing visible performance problems most noticeably in games. After much troubleshooting, I discovered that setting Maximum Memory in System Configuration (msconfig.exe) to 3300MB (I didn't test every 1MB below the limit, by the way), down from the limit of 3328 (using 1 or 2MB less than this still resulted in performance problems...) restored performance to pre-4GB levels. I'm aware of x86 architecture not being able to utilize 4GB of memory, so this isn't about that. Additional oddities include PCI Latency Timer (of all things...) effecting performance and lower memory timings being more stable than high... What's going on here? Is there any way to avoid adding a memory limit?

Windows Vista with SP1 (32-bit)
Asus P4P800 with BIOS 1021.006
Pentium 4 3.0E at 3.75 (250FSB)
Corsair PC3200 4GB (4x1)
GeForce 7800 GS at 520/725
Audigy 2

A:Poor Performance With 4GB Memory

You could possibly be running into problems with all four dimm slots filled with memory. In fact Corsair usually recommends downclocking your memory when filling all four dimm slots. See here: Full dimm slots - Please school me. - The Corsair Support Forums. Follow the links posted by DereKT.

Also be aware that the more memory your v-card(s) have, the less system memory you have for non video system resources under a 32bit system since 32bit OS' are limited to 4gig of memory. See here: http://www.corsair.com/_appnotes/AN8...e_Analysis.pdf.

Other then that, make sure you have "manually" set the recommended memory timings and voltage as stated by the RAM manufacturer.

Good luck

Hi all,
I have installed Vista in a 64bits server with 8Gb.
When running an excel 2007 s/s that takes about 5 min in a 2Gb Windows XP Laptop, it takes more than 11 mins.

I'm a bit dissapointed since I was expecting to get a much better execution time in the server, so I'm even wondering about going back and install XP.

Can anybody help me to improve this performance, please?
CPU % usage is around 25% so it seems it could run faster but I don't know how tell teh system to use a higher CPU % usage.

Thanks in advance
Cheers

A:excel07 poor performance

Since its a server, the processor's resource's are probably set to manage background tasks instead of programs. My server ( An old HP Notebook ) takes 22 minutes just to open Internet Explorer. But then again I have it running my website and most of the processes are background processes. The CPU is at about 80% all the time from managing my website..

If you want to change the allocation of CPU time ( NOT RECOMMENDED IF YOU'RE RUNNING A WEBSITE ) You can do it by going to Start > Right-Click "Computer" > Properties > Advanced System Settings > Performance > Advanced > Processor Scheduling > Either Background or Programs.

Be careful now..

I'm getting poor performance on my Yoga 730-15. I suspect Power Throttling. Is there anything that can be done? I heard that power limits are set by Lenovo on the BIOS and there is nothing we can do as user. Could Lenovo add the option in the BIOS to increase the power limits?

Check in your display properties under your card, if you have antialiasing enabled disable it. Does that help

What sofware, what resolution and color depth.

Make sure you have 128meg of ram in the bios for agp memory.
