I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Apologies if something similar has been posted, I just can't find the answer. We have a 5th Generation Thinkpad X1 Carbon connected to a Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 dock. At the moment the display is mirrored using a VGA cable to connect to the dock. What we would like instead is to connect the dock to 2 external monitors with separate content on each monitor and the laptop display blank. I just can't figure out if this is possible, what might be needed, and how! Any help greatly appreciated.

X1 Carbon 6th Gen - (Type 20KH, 20KG) Laptop (ThinkPad) on ThinkPad Pro Dock.  I have a secondary display (connected with DisplayPort).  When the battery is charging, the secondary display works properly.  As soon as the battery is fully charged (100%), the secondary display disconnects and goes black (no signal detected).  The power is still on the the display.  The only way to get the secondary display to reconnect is to unplug the power supply from the dock, then plug it in again.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, Everyone. Got me a nice little x270 to replace my old x201.  Happy enough with the machine, but getting it connected to my accessories (monitor, keyb, mouse, ethernet) is a bit of a chore. This machine appears to have a "proper" dock port on the bottom.  Is there a compatible ultradock available for the model 20HN x270?  By proper - I mean, Not USB.  A nice dock I can simply drop the machine into when I'm at the home office.. Thanks!

I am just going to guess that computer is trying to boot via USB, so you might try changing the boot order in the BIOS so that Windows Boot Manager or the HD is first.

When I dock the computer and press the power button on the dock it doesn't recognize my monitor as the main screen. I have to hit a key (Windows 10) and put in my password hoping that it's doing that and then the screen comes up. If I reboot after that ... THEN.... it recognizes my screen as the main monitor. How do I fix this? The only time this happens is when I use it off the dock and then put it back on. If it stays on the dock all the time it does just fine. Any fixes for this? Thanks...

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

It last a few seconds then eveything comes back.  I have identified a source yet... it may happen 2 times in 5 minutes, then be OK for 30 minutes. Any idea of where I could look for a source of error for this issue?  Everything is up to date as of today (using Lenovo Vantage software) Many Thanks!

Hello - I have a X1 Carbon with the ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock.  Everything worked great under Windows 8.1.  I would occassionally have an issue with the dock not coming online after resuming Win 8.1, but it was easy to fix by powering the dock on/off or rebooting. However since upgrading to Win 10, I have a very frustrating audio issue.  Application seem to have trouble picking between the sound device inside the laptop and the dock.  For example, I'll get an incoming call from Skype, and it will start the call on the laptop internal speakers, then say the "Realtek audio device is unavailable".  If I call the person back, it then completes the call and works fine through the dock audio device (which is what it should have done the first time). However the issue isn't only with Skype, it's with all apps.  For example, if I start Pandora in the Chrome browser, it will start playing the audio through the laptop speakers for about 1 second, then stop.  I then have to refresh the web page a few times to get it to start playing out of the dock sound device.  All the while, Windows is configured (and properly reports) the dock sound device as the default (which is what I want). I suspect this is an issue with the drivers for either the dock or the X1 not properly talking to Windows 10, but both are up to date, and either Lenovo or DisplayLink (who makes the dock drivers) have any noted issues with audio-switching. Has anyo... One of my clients is having an issue with his X1 Carbon and OneLink+ dock. After installing the latest Bios, we noticed that the laptop will hang at the starting windows screen (windows 7) when rebooting while connected to the dock. This does not happen if not on the dock. I have updated the dock drivers, graphic drivers, dock firmware, power management drivers, ethernet drivers, usb drivers, even got a replacement dock from Lenovo with the same result. I tried reverting to the old bios but that did not help. Im not sure what else to try.

We purchased a new X1 Carbon 6th Gen with the new Thunderbolt 3 Dock Win 10 1803 and have had all kinds of problems. Bad enough to consider other brand alternatives. All Lenovo drivers are current, we updated the firmware and drivers for the dock. With that we still have the following problems and dont know how to resolve them1. The network connectivity from the dock to laptop with USB-C loses connectivity on occasion. Also when the user shuts off the laptop, comes back and turns the laptop on, no network connectivity is re-established. The only way to fix this is to unplug the USB-C cable and plug it back in. Sometimes that will lock up windows and we have to do a hard shut down and start of the laptop. 2. Running the display out from the dock is not always reliable. The monitor will turn off randomly. To bypass this issue we have to just plug the monitor directly into the laptop. 4. Occasional random bluescreens with a stop  code DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION. This error is related to bad drivers. Are we missing something. Is there anything we have to set in the BIOS to resolve these problems? I've been reading up on this dock and a lot of people are having problems with this dock and carbon 6th gen laptops

When powering my X1 Carbon Gen 6 via my new ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen 2 (40AS), the dock will frequently disconnect and then rapidly reconnect to the PC. When the dock disconnects, all connected devices are also disconnected from the PC, including USB and ethernet. However, the dock remains powered on with a yellow light, and delivers power via the powered USB port. When the dock disconnects, it and all attached devices show a yellow hazard triangle in the device viewer, before vanishing and reappearing once they connect. This all happens within a span of seconds, usually repeatedly, and most often when the fans are spinning up.Sometimes when disconnecting, the dock light will turn yellow, will make a loud "clicking" sound similar to a mechanical hard drive. This happens most frequently when disconnecting a secondary power source (see below). The drivers and firmware for both the X1 and the dock are up to date. The only "solution" I've found is to connect both the 65w adapter that came with the X1 and the USB-C cable connecting to the dock. This seems to provide enough power to prevent devices from disconnecting. However, I've noticed that once plugged in, removing the X1 adapter while the dock is still connected will immediately cause the dock to start disconnecting and repeating rapidly. And of course, I bought this dock so I could do everything through one cable, not two. Everything seems to point to either the dock not providing enough po... Read more

Sorry for the bit of a wall of text, I'm trying to be as detailed as I can. I've been pulling my hair out a bit on this one, and I've tried steps found in at least half a dozen threads that I read through on here, but to no avail. I wanted to make a separate thread because my issue seems to be happening before most of everyone else's. I've tried: installing drivers in a specific order, not plugging the dock in until everything is setup, forcing a PD reset (hold power 8 seconds), updating bios to latest and trying all the Thunderbolt security/compatibility/passthrough settings, etc.  Specifics: An end-user has a 6th gen X1 Carbon and purchased this dock: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories-and-monitors/docking/universal-cable-docks-thunderbolt/Thun... Which specifically says it's compatible, and I've used the dock finder utility to verify the compatibility. I'm running Windows 10 1809 and have triple checked driver versions and BIOS settings. The driver shows up correctly in Device Manager and the Thunderbolt software runs properly. I've disabled my antivirus in case something was interfering.  Problem: However, no matter what I try, when I plug the dock into the machine, I don't get a single prompt or anything that indicates it's been connected, other than that the LED on the dock goes from amber to white, the NIC lights up (if plugged in), and the laptop charges properly and indicates as such. You're suppo... We recently purchased three of these for our team. They do not work with USB-C portable drives or with the Thunderbolt Dock. I first tired these with a 40A9 dock as CDW stated it was compatible. Since that didn't work, we tested with the Gen 2 docks which Lenovo stated were compatible.  I have tried to reimage the machine, reinstall drivers, tried other cables, laptops, and attempting to change settings in the BIOS like Thunderbolt security. Nothing has worked to allow us to use the docks ethernet. It's just not seen by the system. I have gotten it working sans drivers with the 40AJ docking station. I know this docking station is listed as working with Gen 6 and I can locate plenty of guides on how to configure this machine for the dock.  Any help would be appreciated.

See subject.  Ever since the BIOS upgrade, the dock no longer crashes.  Two days running now with no problems; prior to the upgrade it would crash routinely when connecting via USB-C.  I had to employ the unsavoury workaround of connecting the laptop to a charger and connecting it to the dock via the USB-A port using the USB-A to USB-C adaptor supplied.  Now I'm connecting via USB-C cable only. In fact, I'd given up on using the dock at all and had it just sitting there.  I decided to give it another go after reading that BIOS v1.19 fixed instances of BSODs occuring when connected to an external monitor (which I did experience now and again when connecting to an external monitor via HDMI i.e. not via dock).    Dock Type : 40AFX1E Type : 20MF

Does the Thinkpad P51s support the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? I have the Thinkpad P51s with stock Windows 10 Pro and updated to latest drivers and Windows version and installed the latest Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock drivers. Attaching the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to the P51s as described in documentation, it charges the notebook, however, noting attached to the dock is recognized. I've tested with attaching USB flash drives, headphones, Ethernet, HDMI, and DP, but nothing is recognized nor are any warnings/errors displayed in Windows. While the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock is listed as being compatible with the P51s and T570, the notebook order page does not list the Thunderbolt 3 Dock in any of the accessories lists. Lenovo Sales also confirmed that the Thunderbolt 3 Dock is fully compatible with the P51s.  However, I needed to purchase the Thunderbolt 3 Dock separately from the notebook order. What's going on? Has anybody successfully used the P51s or the T570 with the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? Or is this something I need to wait for full support via a future BIOS/driver update? Or perhaps my Thunderbolt 3 Dock is defective? Thanks,Boris

I recently received a ThinkPad T480s for my work PC and a Thunderbolt 3 Dock. I'm loving the laptop, but the dock is having some troubles. I'm worried either the dock is bad or worse, the laptop's Thunderbolt hardware is bad. The dock will cut out and appear to crash on certain occasions. I'm still trying to experiment with the triggers. I'm not 100% sure, but it appears that while I'm using it everything works fine - so long as I keep the laptop awake. It's when the ThinkPad goes to sleep or I leave my desk for a long enough time that the screens will have appeared to drop out. So I currently have a Lenovo T430s Thinkpad and the Mini Dock Plus Series 3. The problem im having is that when the power cable is plugged into the dock and the laptop is mounted, my battery will not charge. Battery icon says "Plugged in, Charging" but i can see the battery percentage slowly draining. Usb ports, power button on the dock, secondary monitor and everything else seems to be working just fine. Laptop Charges just fine when "undocked". I initially thought it was a bad battery so i purchased a brand new genuine lenovo battery and still the same. Did an online search and cant find a solution to the problem. This all happened after I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 64. Anyone know a solution? im all out of ideas.
