Preferred Solution: Upgrading Thinkpad Yoga 14 RAM?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just got my X1 yoga, the SSD capacity is 128GB and mode is SAMSUNG MZNLF128HCHP-000L1, it is SATA III interface, I would like to upgrade to 256GB NVMe PCIeX 4 , Samsung 950 pro series 256GB PCIe NVMe looks good, but the picture shows the connector is M key, I think the original SSD connector should be B&M key, will it fit  and whether the motherboard can support  NVMe  PCIe X4. Thank in advance.

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

I am hhaving difficulty finding an acceptable scaling mix between resolution, system scaling, and edge scaling. At 1080p, 125%, 125%, os navigation is mostly fine, but edge text is way too large. At 1080p, 125%, 100%, edge text is way too small. At all combinations text is inflated (but crisp) in certain elements while fuzzy in others. What scaling combinations work best for you? I am considering returning this to Best Buy and upgrading to a Pro 4 / Book, or even a Mac. The scaling is ruining an otherwise great experience.

Disclosure:  I received these laptops from Lenovo as part of their advocacy program, so huge thanks to the folks over at Lenovo. I don't receive compensation for my review, and as always, all opinions are my own.

The ThinkPad X1 Yoga is first modern ThinkPad that I've ever owned.  I?ve been using Lenovo?s Ideapad lineup for a very long time, and while I?ve used ThinkPads in the past, the X1 Yoga will be my first personal ThinkPad that I own.  So how does it stack up to the Yoga 910?  Let?s find out! I have the i7 UHD model of the Yoga 910 and the i5 FHD model of the ThinkPad X1 Yoga.  I tried out the latest Yoga 920, but I haven?t tried the latest X1 Yoga yet? hopefully, I will!

Hardware & Design
Even though both laptops carry ?yoga? in their name, the hardware behind them is vastly different.  The ThinkPad X1 Yoga has the classic ThinkPad black design, which is made of a carbon-fiber hybrid for the top cover and a magnesium-PPS hybrid for the bottom cover.  The Yoga 910 has a similar design from the Lenovo?s Yoga lineup, with an aluminum build throughout.

The ThinkPad only comes in two colors: classic black and silver; whereas the Yoga has a whole suite of colors to choose from, such as silver, copper, bronze, and even a few exclusive designs, such as the Vibe designs for the Yoga 920 and the Star Wars themed designs for the Yoga 910.

I have two staff members with different Yoga models, but with the same pen issue. Say, for instance, OneNote is open. The pen doesn't draw or write, but it can select and still be recognized. When I try using an old stylus from an HP Elitebook, it works TOTALLY fine - even the button on the pen functions properly. This suddenly started after months of the Lenovo pens working fine. I thought maybe it was a driver issue, but it can't be as the HP pen works.... I'm thinking it's the pen itself just getting worn down? It looks okay though but may be just a little loose... Any help / direction would be greatly appreciated!

I have recently bought a Thinkpad Yoga 460 with Thinkpad Pen Pro. I leave it in the laptop slot for charging for more than a day and it gives me only a few minutes of usage. As per the user guide, it should be 80% charge in 15 seconds and 100% after 5 minutes. But it runs out of charge very soon. It shows me the low battery level indicator as soon as I use it on the screen. First day of usage (appox 4 days ago) it gave me about 30 - 45 minutes of continuous. But after that not more than 5 minutes. Please let me know if this is an issue with the Pen or Laptop charging port. Is there any way I can troubleshoot it?Please also let me know the average usage time for the pen, if you are continuously using it.

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

I do not have that kind of pen, but I think is the one that has some "bronce contacts" at the top of the pen. I had read some other post about it, just in case check that "contacts" to make sure they are touching with the charger when you put the pen into it's holder. Sometimes the contacts may move.

Just curious, why is the new Thinkpad X1 Yoga I7, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, FHD about $1,000 more than the similarly equipped commercial Lenovo 910?

Is it the ThinkPad brand name? The eraser nubbin? The 2 combined?

Just curious.

I've got a friend who needs a new laptop. She likes the touch/fold aspect of my 1st gen Thinkpad X1 Yoga. Do you all think she would be happy with the commercial Yoga 910?

Any real reason to get the new plain FHD ThinkPad X1 Yoga instead of the similarly equipped commercial Yoga available at Best Buy besides spending an extra $1000 for the ThinkPad brand name?

I've owned 6 various ThinkPads since 2011 FWIW. I get it, they're cream of the crop. But I kinda got sticker shock when I just priced out a plain FHD (and we need nothing more) X1 Yoga. About  $2,800, wow!

A:Why is the ThinkPad X1 Yoga $1,000 more than a similar Yoga 910?

@Jelks, The biggest difference I see between the X1 Yoga (2nd) and the Yoga 910 is active pen support which seems to be missing from the 910. You could use a capacitive stylus, but expect fingertip resolution, not pinpoint, and no pressure-sensitivity. Fewer USB ports: no HDMI or MicroSD; no Thunderbolt. No TPM module, if you need to store encrypted creditials, e.g., for BitLocker. Not sure about battery life; they claim up to 9 hours of local video for the 910 vs. up to 15 of MobileMark for the X1. Not an apple-to-apple comparison. You're not going to get the (soon to be patched, at least for now) security hole that is Intel's vPro management tech. You may not get Windows 10 Pro, possibly just Home (but you could always give Microsoft the money to upgrade if you need BitLocker or Remote Access). You're not going to get all the "mil-spec" design and testing etc, but if it's a personal machine, you're probably going to avoid abusing it. As you suggest, the "wave" keyboard -- including the trackpoint "eraser nubbin" -- is definitely going to be more expensive on the ThinkPad than the plain Yoga keyboard. I used two generations of ThinkPads (T61p and W520), but about 3 years ago I switched to a Dell XPS 13. A year or so ago, I ordered a X1 Yoga 1st gen for my wife and she likes it very much, so I am pretty familiar with the design and capabilities. TLDR: I think most people would be happy with the 910 vs. X1 unless they want the active pen. Als... Hey, I was wonderin about upgradin. I have a Pentium III (700Mhz) 128MB of ram and 10 gigs of memory. I really was stupid when I bought it, and I am lookin to upgrade the prossessor to a Pentium IV. Is this even possible? I dont have a clone, but I have been told that you are able to upgrade processors, I wasnt sure if it was possible with a laptop. Anyone ever tried this?

A:Upgrading an IBM Thinkpad

No, you can't upgrade to a Penitum 4 without buying an entirely new laptop. You may be able to put a slightly faster PIII CPU in it, up to a PIII 1.4Ghz. You'd have to find a Mobile Pentium III, which aren't stocked by most places so you'd have to order it online most likely - now thats assuming the laptop supports a faster CPU which it might not - you'll have to check with IBM or do an online search for your specific model number. Its also not the easiest thing to take apart a laptop. A memory upgrade would be a much cheaper, easier, and possible upgrade - you could take the memory to 256MB or more easily. You can check on www.crucial.com to see how much it'll take ot on IBM's website.

I just bought a Thinkpad Yoga from Best Buy and upon opening, found that the pen pro included does not work. I'm on the most updated version of all the drivers, and the touch screen and multitouch with my hands still work. After taking an multimeter to measure the voltage of the pen, I found that the pen just wasn't charging. I'm a bit hesitant to check the voltage of the charging silo itself but my suspicion is that the pen is dead. Could this be a software problem? Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Should I return to pen and the laptop to bestbuy or just the pen? Or should this issue be brought to Lenovo instead?

A:Thinkpad Yoga 460 (Best Buy) - Thinkpad Pro Pen do...

I don't have a 460, but I do have a 260, which is a smaller, but VERY similar machine.  I had the same problem and I believe it is not the pen.  Before you do anything, you need to unplug the machine and disable the internal battery.  You do that by going into the BIOS and under the config tab, look under power.  There will be an option to disable the battery.  When this is selected, the machine will turn off.  The battery is re-enabled the next time you plug it in.  IF THE BATTERY IS NOT DISCONNECTED, YOU WILL CREATE A SHORT AND BLOW A IRREPLACEABLE FUSE ON THE MOTHERBOARD.  Remove the pen and look inside, where you will see 2 contacts.  My guess is that one or both got pushed back into the housing during manufacturing process.  You can take something fine and sharp like a needle and gently free them so they will pop back out.  Once I popped mine out, the pen charged very quickly and I never had another problem with it.

Unless this unit has sentimental value attached to it, this is not a worthwhile effort. I saw one just now on sale on the Web for $270.

If you upgraded the Memory and HD you would still have a highly mediocre PC, and may wind up spend another $270???

Much better Laptops are on sale everyweek for $500. and come with XP Home. I'd recommend that you consider that course.

Hi, I have 3 problems with my Yoga 460: 1. (this should be easy):Where do I get a backup image for my system from? I did not find any links on the support page. 2. I tried to download the bios update to version 1.18 from the website. If I click on the windows installer file, there is always the message "file not found". If I try to download the iso file (which is indeed working), I receive an error message about wrong format when trying to mount it to a usb drive. 3. This is the most important issue for me at the moment:As soon as I try to update my system with Lenovo Companion software, I always get the message that I would have to upgrade my Lenovo System Interface Driver. If I hit ok to install this app, I get a download link. I tried installing it several times. After having restarted the system, the same error appears again (with the same download link).  I would really appreciate if anyone of you could help me on these topics! Greetings from Germany, Simon

Hi Loungepuppy,Warm Greetings & welcome to Lenovo Community, happy to have you here.

It depends upon your requirement ideally you will need a same kind (like frequency, type, size) of RAM in both slots to achieve a dual channel configuration.
Therefore, you can either install an 8GB stick to the existing configuration or go ahead with even 16GB stick aswell.

Edit- This system does support 32GB max 2400MHz DDR4 (source)

I hope the above information helped you.

I recently bought a Thinkpad T450s with the default TN 1600x900 screen. The screen was not bright enough to use it outside, so I decided to buy a replacement IPS 1920x1080 screen on Ebay and install it myself. I ordered this screen, which was supposed to be an LG LP140WF3SPD1 with the max brightness of 300 nits, but the seller sent an Innolux N140HCE-EAA, which only has a max brightness of 250 nits. Needless to say I am disgusted with the deceptive advertising of the seller "laptop_screen" so I want to alert anyone else who is shopping for a replacement screen to avoid this seller on Ebay. Apart from that, I want to let everyone know that the Innolux N140HCE-EAA screen will work in the T450s and the viewing angles are good. I don't have enough experience to be able to say whether the color quality is good or not, but I can tell that the screen isn't very bright. In Windows, the N140HCE-EAA does not allow me to change the brightness of the screen, because the data in the screen's EDID does not match what the laptop expects.  I have read online that this problem also occurs when installing the LG LP140WF3SPD1 in a T450s that originally had a TN 1600x900 screen, so this isn't a problem with the N140HCE-EAA part. In Linux I can adjust the screen brightness since Linux ignores the EDID data when setting the brightness. Since I use Linux, I have no problems, but this is a problem for Windows users. I have not tried to overwrite the EDID data, so I don't know whether the ED... Read more

A:Need Advice on Upgrading RAM on Thinkpad T470

Hello and welcome,

I've moved your post to the T-series forum.

Your subject says T470 but the message body says - and implies - T470s.  I think you already know that one module is soldered and one socketed, but just checking...

Both base specs say "2400MHz DDR4".  I'd be inclined to go to a reputable vendor's site (Crucial for instance - not pushing them...)  and use their memory finder for specifics.  In the hopefully unlikely event of compatibility issues you'd have that to fall back on for a return.

Probably not necessary, but it's not a bad idea to pull the specs of the soldered module and try to match those exactly.

Welcome to the forum!

You cannot upgrade the video card since it's soldered to the motherboard, and yours had the better graphic chip available for this series. See the original specs below:

ThinkPad Z61m - 9450-3HG
T2500(2GHz), 1GB RAM, 100GB 5400rpm HD, 15.4in 1680x1050 LCD, 128MB ATI Radeon X1400, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, IEEE 1394, FPR, Camera, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro
The RAM is not the same as the desktop pcs, yours uses SODIMM DDR2-RAM (200 pins) and the maximum supported RAM by the chipset is 3GB.

I've seen several threads about this issue, but none that address my specific concern.

I have a ThinkPad Yoga 14. It did not come with a digitizer pen included. However, I suspect that the screen does in fact have a Wacom digitizer layer. My rationale is this:

My computer came pre-installed with the Wacom Pen Calibration Software
Device Manager reports the following HID devices:-- HID-compliant digitizer-- HID-compliant pen-- Wacom Device
When I run the Wacom Hardware Check (available here), it reports "You have hardware compatible with the Wacom FEEL driver."
All of the 20DM008 models listed at http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/179 support the active pen (I cannot find the 20DM008U++ model there for some reason)

However, the computer will not recognize the ThinkPad digitizer pen I purchased.

So, I suppose I have three questions:

Am I just misinterpreting what I am seeing in the Device Manager?
Is it possible that Lenovo installs the Wacom screen on all it's tablets, but disables them somehow on models not marketed as digitizer ready?
If so, is there any way for me to enable my screen to allow for digitizer use?

A:ThinkPad Yoga 14 - Digitizer Pen

Good day.

Looking at the models that support pen at the PSREF link you included, please notice that it specifies "Active Pen". This is not the same as the ThinkPad Digitizer Pen. That's why it won't work for you.

You need the newer, AAAA battery-powered Active Pen. Apologies, but I don't have a link for it.

Edit to add: Have a look at this - https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/acc100178Please see the Compatibility section for important info.

Has anyone successfully added an LTE card to this model?  Apparently it comes as an option outside of the U.S.  It has the SIM and LTE slots but no included antennas.
