Lenovo IdeaPad 530s (81EV0039GE) Linux support

Q: Lenovo IdeaPad 530s (81EV0039GE) Linux support

Hello,I am thinking about buying a notebook and the new IdeaPad 530s (15") series looks promising. But since I need to be able to use linux i was wondering if there is proper driver support (touchpad, sound, fingerprint-scanner, ...) at this point. If not, when can we expect it? Best regards!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello Lenovo Support! Can the linux users of this laptop get some love, please? In my case I only need the ability to update my BIOS from liveusb, an .ISO would be perfectly fine. I don't mind all the broken ACPI tables, BIOS updates, deleting all my efivars and some entries, I'll fix them myself, but I do mind, having to dualboot Windows, so just an ISO would be great. Lastly and most importantly can we also get the option to enable VT-d in the BIOS? Both MB and CPU supports it. I'm in extremely high doubt, anything would come out of this post, just hope atleast some of the staff read this to remind them 'Windows' isn't the only OS out there Thanks!

New Yoga 700-141SK: Ran the Lenovo Support Center Hardware Scan and the Video Card Mathematical Operations Test has failed rendering the Report: WVC007002-UL7BPL. Is there a tried and proven solution out there? I have had a look at the solutions on the forum and am not satisfied that the solutions offered prove that the problem has been resolved. It is reasonable to expect Lenovo to make available a solution as a matter of course instead of end-users of "afflicted" Lenovo devices having to request/search for a solution(s).

Hi All,I'd just like to know if the Lenovo V110-15AST runs well with Linux. I'm planning on buying one but will reconsider is there are too many Linux compatible issues. I have already looked at ubuntu's compatibility page, various Linux resources etc. I read in the manual for the Lenovo V110-15AST that a fast boot system will have issues (something to that effect) but anything majorly wrong with the combo?

HI, so i'm thinking about buying this,  https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/store/d/lenovo-ideapad-flex-5-14-2-in-1-pc/91jb40s7kj8g/h3lk?activet... i'd like to know, if it supports PCI NVME drives.  I know it has an M2 slot, as well as a regular sata 2.5 slot, so i can put 2 drives, both SSD at once.  But for the m2 slot, would it have to be SATA or can it be NVME?  Thanks for any help.

A:Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 14 2-in-1 PC , 81C9000CUS - does this support PCI NVME?

Hi shynepo3,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The Flex 5-1470 (Type 81C9) Laptop / part number 81C9000CUS must be a M.2 NVMe SSD.

Storage specification:
Some: HDD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm highSome: M.2 SSD / PCIe 3.0 x 4

OEM recommended M.2 SSD listed here PCIe-NVMe for model 81C9.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Hello all, I purchased a Lenovo Ideapad Y700-17ISK part # 80Q00011US, and according to case manager assigned to my case, 100 days ago. The notebook was mis-represented by a sales rep, and when I got the machine and it didn't have the second hard drive bay in rear of machine, which I was told the 80Q00011US had. The machine also had a mild display issue, but rather than report it and spend 2+ weeks without a machine, I ignore the issue. It didn't affect daily usage anyways. So 10 days ago, the machine dies during a reboot. Seems the MB fried. I have been fighting and waiting (mostly waiting) for over a week for a case manager (Crystal) to contact me, which finally happen @ 7:30 AM PST yesterday. The case manager was not customer friendly, refused the replacement or refund options I requested, stated they would ONLY repair the system. Her cause for "rejecting" those options was because I didn't report the display issue in the first 30 days (I have enough exp. (35 Yrs.) in computers to know a bad spot in display is NOT going to fried a MB). Conservation got heated. I refuse the repair option because I know what they will do is replace MB & Display, and return other parts back to the machine (parts that very well could have been damaged when MB died, leaving me with a US$1,300 refurbished machine). I then requested to speak with her supervisor since I was tired of being BS-ed, only for her to claim there was no-one higher to speak to, and her actually hang... Read more

In their ARK description, Intel admits that they support `vt-d` virtualization technology on i7-6700HQ Processor. But nowhere in Bios (version E5CN56WW), it has mentioned on how to enable it. The only related configuration seems to be named Virtualization which is enabled, but I can't confirm it by enabling IOMMU on my Linux kernel (nothing appears in `/sys/kernel/iommu_groups/` folder). So I wanted to know if it supports this virtualization technology and if yes, how I can enable it? Thank you

Hello, I only found out after purchasing the Y510P laptop that it for some strange reason does not support 5Ghz networks, only 2.4Ghz. This results in me having insanely slow connection every single night around peak hours (7-11pm), and I'm unable to do anything like watching movies, playing games or download stuff. Does anyone know exactly how to upgrade the wireless card on this laptop so it supports 5Ghz networks? Do I have to go out and buy another wireless card, or is it software upgrades like drivers only? I'm not a computer major so a walkthrough would be appreciated. Thanks.

Relying on the information on the Lenovo website listing "Ubuntu" and "Redhat certified" under "Operating Systems", I chose a Lenovo P52. The device arrived, and I opened BIOS settings to prepare for the Linux installation I had planned. After changing some settings, I chose "change settings and reboot", and the device entered a nonresponsive state: Screen black with the exception of a single white pixel in the left upper edge of the screen. After about 30 minutes, I tried a re-boot; again, the screen stayed black. No Lenovo logo appeared, clicking F1 (or any other function key) did not lead into the BIOS settings. Customer support told me this was a technical defect, and I sent the device back to the dealer. A week later, the new Lenovo P52 arrived.  This time, trying to set up the BIOS for Linux installation, I always changed but a single setting and chose the "Save and Reboot" option. Things went fine until I chose to "Enable" the "BIOS support for Thunderbolt", a setting suggested by the BIOS help appearing on the right quarter of the BIOS setttings screen for installation of Windows 10 before a certain patch level and for installation of Linux. An Info Box popped op, saying the resetting with take "up to 15 seconds" with this option enabled.  The "Save and Reboot" led to a bricked device, again: Black screen, nothing happened for 45 minutes. A reboot again failed to have the Lenovo logo appear, no reaction on keys F1 to F12, no way to enter BIOS setup, let... Read more

VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR Microsoft assistantI have this problem with the Lenovo Ideapad 530s processor AMD Ryzen 5 and the Radeon Vega 8 Interface Graphics Card. 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM. The laptop gives this error about once, twice a day. WIndows 10 is the original, up-to-date, up-to-date drivers downloaded from the Lenovo website. Just in the browser, youtube but not only if I use, without other installed programs I give this error. Sometimes in the browser there are green portions (abnormal) where video should be played, or green / multicolored ...The software / windows / drivers / software conflicts part has been verified by a Windows assistant. Everything is OK...  Windows is the last version of 1809, I tried a few more old versions, the same error! I'm thinking of returning my laptop ... what do you advise me to? Those in the warranty do not think they will be bothering for the error only occurs sometime. Is this a hardware issue? I did all the tests and everything was okay. Is it from the graphics card? Motherboard? Thanks for the help!!!

Hey guys, I have a Lenovo Ideapad IdeaPad 100 14ibd - win10 and basically im planning on formatting my laptop to get rid of all the stuff/unknown files that are terribly slowing down my ram. But im still new to this process so im wondering if using Lenovo's Onekey recovery is a good thing but then i saw the Reset this PC feature of windows is another thing. My question is, what would be the more recommended thing i should do to get my laptop to its original state just like the new windows 10, or are there any difference within those  two?PS: I got my back up files all set from this laptop to my external hd already Thank you!

Hi - the current version of the ideapad 710s BIOS does not allow changing of the SATA/drive mode from RAID to AHCI. As a result, it is pretty much impossible to install Linux onto these systems. I've tried multiple combinations of things - completely wiped the drive, disabled UEFI, Secure Boot and enabled Legacy mode, etc - and nothing works.  The currently locked SATA mode basically prevents Linux from even seeing the SSD.  I've tried the latest versions of Ubuntu and Gentoo - both with the same result. Is there any reason why this setting is not exposed?  Are there any plans to expose it?

...post, but I have a Linux question that goes with it, so I thought I should post over here.

So, the original question was, Is it possible to charge the iPod on a 98se?

Obviously no, but I know the computer is capable of it because Ubuntu and DSL can power the iPod to charge. So I want to know is, what kind of software/drivers do those two distros use that let them send the power out?

Is it a special kind of thing that is for Linux only? Can it be converted to Windows, (Kinda like WINE in reverse).

Any insite would be appreciated!

A:What Type Of USB Support Does Linux Have?

Uhm.. The power is always supplied to all USB devices and you have to turn off the power manually per device or port. It is not a "feature", but an inherent property of USB. Most USB devices wouldn't even work if they didn't get power from the port.

I would guess it's a "feature" of your iPod (needs the computer to tell it to charge itself?) or some serious bug in Windows drivers and/or your ancient hardware. Do the USB ports work with your Windows at all? Have you used a mouse or a flash drive or something?

Maybe get a PCI USB 2.0 controller card? You would get more speed and new drivers. Make sure that Windows 98 is supported by the device!
