Lenovo y410 Ideapad: Working Driver for Intel Centrino N2230

Q: Lenovo y410 Ideapad: Working Driver for Intel Centrino N2230

I recently updated my Lenovo Y410p to a SSD with a clean install of windows. Because of this, all my drivers are out of date. Some background on my laptop: When I first purchased it in 2014, the Intel Centrino N2230 wireless adapter was not working whatsoever. It was constantly dropping connection every minute. There were plenty of complaints about it online with many proposed solutions, all of which did not work for me. I spent weeks trying to troubleshoot the wireless card to no avail. My laptop essentially did not have wireless capabilities during this duration, until a driver update came through that fixed everything. I never had a Wi-Fi problem again in the last 3 years. I upgraded to a SSD yesterday, and the wireless adapter is once again not working. I know 100% it is the Intel Centrino N2230 drivers once again because those weeks of trying to troubleshoot it are so painfully unforgettable. It has the exact same symptoms again. I thought it would just be a simple fix of updating the driver. However, when I go to the Lenovo Y410P Product page to look for the drivers, the Intel Centrino N2230 wireless adapter is no longer there: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-y-series-laptops/ideapad-y4... The closest thing was the WLAN driver, but when I try installing that, it just makes me install Intel Proset/Wireless, which does nothing for updating my driver. Maybe I'm using it wrong, but when I install Intel Proset/Wireless, Intel's page says the network adapter should automatically be updated. However, when I check my device manager, it seems like the driver version stays the same. I suspect this is because intel does not support discontinued products anymore: I went onto Intel's website to try and find the driver there, but the Intel Centrino N2230 has been discontinued. They took down every single driver update for their discontinued products, and instead, redirects you back to your laptop manufacturer. However, Lenovo does not have the network adapter driver update (above). Right clicking the card in Windows Device Manager and trying to update the driver automatically through there also doesn't seem to work. It says it updated to the most recent version, but this version was published in 2013. Basically every driver version before ~2015 (when the driver udpate that fixed my card came out) does not work. What can I do? My laptop is once again basically useless because Wi-Fi is not working on it. I am on Windows 8.1. EDIT 1: Installing Intel Proset/Wireless does update my Intel Centrino N2230 driver version. Is just a matter of finding the correct version now from Softpedia. Will update when I found the working version for anyone who stumbles on this in the future. Currently using version 15.18.0.1 (on Softpedia, it was called 19.70.0 though). If anyone has a Lenovo Y410p, please let me know which version you have and if it works

Okay so I've made the decision that I want to buy a new wireless card and physically replace my intel centrino n2230 on my windows 9.1 laptop This card has given me hell as long as I've had my laptop (which by the way is the HP Envy Dv 433ea - a seeming non existant laptop that I can't find support for anywhere on the internet)  Before anyone advises to update drivers or anything don't bother.  I have literally tried everything from the latest drivers to the oldest drivers and everything in between. The connection I get it always slow and will periodically drops disconnecting mefrom the internet - which I have concluded is the most frustrating thing I've ever had to deal with. So to the actual question. I've heard there are things such as bios restricions and there will obviously be size restrictions so I wanted to check with someone a little more experienced before I go out and buy a wirelss card that doesn't do the trick. So again I guess the question I'm asking is: What wireless card do I buy that will not cause any of the afformentioned problems that will fit in my laptops card slot and that will work with the bios? Thank you so much I know this was a long question but I have to stress how much this card has pissed me off I have been running around left right and center trying to get a fix but no avail - this is kind of my last resort.

i bought my computer at costco in japan and there is no serial number tag on the bottom, in the location indicated in the maintenance manual.
the model is envy dv7 with intel i5-3210M cpu @ 2.50ghz and 8.00gm ram, 64 bit
also, which of the adapters that you listed in this post is the one you recommend - i would hate to have the same problems as the 2230 upon replacement.

Hi!Question 1.Does the T430 support Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300?Question No. 2If so, must it be from disassembly Lenovo? (used model) I tried to change to N 6300 but I have a problem. This card is from disassembly Dell.I tried two connection options 1-3-2: gray - white - black and white - gray - black. But I still have this problem:PS. sorry for my english

A:T430 Change Wi-Fi Card Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 to Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300

Not sure why this was moved to a Polish language forum ... but here is an answer for you. The Dell card is not an authorized card even though it's likely exactly the same function. There is a white list on Thinkpads limiting the cards that can be used.  And, that list is frozen in time... and  only supports 802.11N  If you really want the N6300, you can get the compatible one for $8 online like ebay. 60Y323326300 WLAN https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/t430s_fru_bom_20130401.pdf From Lenovo PageWIRELESS NETWORKINGThe Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 (FRU 60Y3233) is the fastest WiFi card that will clear the T430s whitelist check. This card provides up to 450 Mbps data rates on 802.11n connections and Intel Wireless Display options. Here is the white listed cards but you can flash the BIOS (see below) The Dell version likely not on it. But you can mod the BIOS on the website below.https://medium.com/@n4ru/the-definitive-t430-modding-guide-3dff3f6a8e2e "The Definitive T430 Modding Guide"WWAN / WLAN CardUnfortunately, the T430 has a an internal whitelist that will not allow the machine to boot unless the installed WLAN card is on the list, and none of the whitelisted cards support 802.11ac. One of the biggest reasons people flash the BIOS other than overclocking is to be able to swap their WLAN card with one that supports 802.11ac. The BIOS flash allows you to remove this whitelist, and allows y... Read more

Hi,
I never ran in to this kind of problem in my life so far. Recently I bought a Lenovo 3000 Y410 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed. I tried to dual boot Ubuntu 7.04 with it. This actually replaced my boot loader with GRUB. I formatted the Ubuntu without being aware that GRUB would start again during reboot. The next time I restarted the computer, GRUB blind Windows Vista and I couldnt log on.
So, I formatted the Computer using Windows Vista recovery DVD.
Then I installed all the drivers for Vista. Onething I cant find is the Infrared driver. I tried a full hardware search and Vista doesnt locate it. I tried to get Chat help from Lenovo and they didnt answer me. I dont know what kind of Infrared device the laptop is equipped with.
Is there anyway, I can find the infrared device even though it is not listed under device manager? I dont want to buy any softwares please. Free and safe ones would do.
I want it to work. If you know the infrared device name for Lenovo 3000 Y410 laptop, please let me know.

Thanks for the help. Please do help. I need Infrared for my remote controller so that I can do presentations easily.

This is a very strange problem.

After a reinstall of the Toshiba N2230 WiFi driver whilst investigating a WiFi connection problem (by uninstalling and reinstalling in Device Manager) I now find the WiFi card is completely disabled, although in Device Manager the device is "installed and working properly" and lists the driver. Toggling the WiFi off/on key does not have any effect.

So I reinstalled the Intel driver from Toshiba's website for the X870 (which crashes, but you can run it from the temporary folder it creates) The result was Bluetooth got uninstalled and now is an "unknown device" and refuses to install at all. If I try to direct it manually to the driver it says the driver is not for this device?!?!

I also tried Intel's own drivers specifically for Windows 10 with no success. Sadly, I did not realise that system restore had been disabled so I cannot roll back, which I expect would have fixed this problem.

The laptop is upgraded to Windows 10, this is the first time I have had any problems with the WiFi connection since it was upgraded.

Does anybody have an idea why this has happened...and maybe a fix? I don't think there is any fault with the card, this looks to be a driver problem.

A:Qosmio X770-119 - N2230 driver installed but not working, Bluetooth uninstalled.

Update. Borrowed an external USB adaptor (TP-Link Archer T2U), disabled the internal adaptor in device manager and installed the TP-Link. Result is the same, device is listed on device manager as working properly, drivers are digitally signed but the adaptor is not enabled.

There is no vpn software on the laptop, I tried disabling antivirus, run sfc scannow and disabled driver signing just in case. But to no avail.

Errmmm...Help?

Hey everyone, My Intel HD graphics 520 driver continuously crashes and basically shuts down my computer. The power button/keys are still on, but I just get a black screen (with some light behind it), as if it is in sleep mode, and I cannot wake up my computer anymore. The only solution then is to just force it off by holding the power button and restart it. I feel it happens at random, but it seems to occur more often when I'm playing a video or something (although that may just be a coincidence). I've had this problem for a long time and have tried several times to reinstall or update the driver. Because I got so fed up with it I just disabled the driver and used the NVIDIA Geforce 920M driver, which works sort of fine with the only big disadvantages that I can't increase or reduce the brightness of my screen anymore and can't run certain programs/games properly. So, therefore, I'm still looking for a solution.  Can anybody help me out?

I am trying to set up a fresh installation of Windows Server 2016 as a development machine on my T430, type 2349-H2G. Unfortunately, when trying to install the driver for the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 network adapter to enable wireless LAN, the driver set-up fails with the message: A service installation section in this INF is invalid The wireless adapter worked fine as recently as yesterday on Windows Server 2012, but I am unaware if any special steps were taken to install the driver under that OS as I "inherited" the notebook from a former colleague. Is there any advice you can give about things I could try? I already tried manually installing the drivers from both the Lenovo website (Win10) and Intel website (Win8.1 and 7), but all of them had the same issue. I am a sophisticated user and am not afraid to edit .inf files or somethign similar if necessary, but I don't know where to start. Thanks in advance for any help you might render

When you run a update, this does happen sometimes. The reason being, windows tries to update the driver with latest version which could result in conflict.Download and install both driver and software from hp.comhttp://www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html

i tried fixing it with a Microsoft support agent before and with the remote desktop help, Cortana had a problem too he fixed it, but the driver he said the there is nothing we could do about it because it's just an incompatible update and that we should just wait for the correct update to come in.Ever since then my laptop do crazy things on sleep, hibernate and shutdown, so i was only finding some workarounds the problem, the sleep mode when it wake up it restart so i switched to hibernating, the new things happens now when i shut down it, it opens weird now like, the keyboard lights up then lights down and the power bottom the same, then either they just stop and i have to hit the power button again or they lights of for seconds and everything runs normalNow i just experiened a bluescreen restart because of it, anyone could advise me on a solution?RegardsNada

Hello, I have a Lenovo v570 1066 laptop. It came with Windows 7, but over the years I upgraded to Windows 8, 8.1, and 10. After the recent Creators update I started having hardware problems with Windows 10. I decided to downgrade back to Windows 8.1. I did a complete wipe of the hard drive and installed Windows 8.1 successfully. I installed all the most recent Windows updates and drivers for my hardware. However, every time I reboot or shut down the computer and boot up again, the WiFi stops working. If I go into the device manager and reinstall the driver then it works fine, but as soon as I reboot it happens again. Essentially every time that I restart the machine I have to reinstall the driver for the wireless adapter. This is a link to the "steps" from the Windows Step Recorder showing what I am talking about. Steps recorded for updating driver I found this link on another Lenovo page where this person solved connection problems by changing the boot priority of Windows Boot Manager, however, I have no way to get into BIOS/UEFI. I have tried using the keyboard during bootup to no avail. I have also tried the following method (Steps recorded for trying to access UEFI) followed by Restart Now, Troubleshooting, and Advanced Options, but the tile for UEFI Firmware settings is not there. Has anybody else had a similar problem? Does anybody know how to fix this? Thanks!

This is becoming very annoying as whenever I try to play a game, my ping spikes from 100 up to 7000. This isn't much of an issue when I'm closer to the router, but my room is probably the furthest distance in the house.

This is definitely an issue with my wireless card as placing this laptop with the intel n2230 next to my older laptop with an atheros AR9285 wireless card shows an unstable signal quality, bouncing from 90mbps up to 180 mbps (in my room it's from 10 mbps to 90 mbps). Is there anyway to create a more stable connection? Or do I need to buy a usb wifi adapter/ a new wireless card.

HiI hope someone can help me, this problem has been ongoing since the first day i bought it in 2012 december. the wifi disconnects to a 'limited' state. upon checking the device manager, the wireless adaptor is disabled. so i enable it and it gets back on again but no sooner is it on, it drops again. in 2014 i got dell tech to replace a new wifi card. on the spot, he too see how the new card didnt solve the problem. he nevertheless still left with the problem unsolved.recently the problem got very bad to a point it disconnects almost right away when i connect it back. i googled and found theres tonnes of issue with this wireless n2230. i came across a solution (disabling bluetooth). it worked for a day but the same thing came back after.i have done all sorts. factory reset, disabling and re-enabling, update windows and browsers and everything i can think of, its updated. im currently on win8, i do not know what other info i need to provide. i hope someone can help me im on the verge of smashing it out the window

If you have 8.1 then I am assuming it is 64bit.

I just bought a lenovo Y410 laptop, according to the specs this comes in with an intel wireless 3945ABG; Bluetooth and an integrated 56k modem. I've tested the LAN and it turned out to be functioning. But when i tested the laptop's bluetooth with my motorola phone (w/ my phone's bluetooth activated) my laptop can't detect my phone, i tried to detect my phone using the bluetooth wizard.

1. What do i need to do?
2. Do i still need to install a driver or something?
3. Do i still need to plug a bluetooth device?

As i understood it, the y410 is already bluetooth capable.

thanks

Hello All! I have just gotten the Lenovo Ideapad 500-15ISK and have been experiencing Hardware Scan Fail within the "Mathematical Operations Test" of my Intel HD Graphics 520. I have checked support and other forums which have addressed this issue, but all these solutions have not worked for me. I read that this is a false positive and that updating the VGA would help, which I have done, but does not fix the solution. Could anyone please help me find a solution to my problem. Thanks.

I had this problem also with my same model 1 week old laptop. Tech support found a different driver on the Intel website that corrected the problem. But, I also am experiencing another odd and random problem that others have discussed which is a pop up window in lower left corner of screen that says the Intel Graphics display stopped working and Windows is trying to repair it.

I guess I posted in the wrong board, so I am posting my question. I bought a used Lenovo 3000 Y410 on eBay without noticing that it didn't come with an AC adapter. This laptop also doesn't have a battery. Which AC adapter do I need to buy?

Hi nyc10036,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Aside from the hardware manual, you may check the specific battery and ac charger intended to your machine here on the parts lookup page. Type in your serial number or machine number in the search box per product info and click on the commodity type for finer search.

Hope this helps answer your query.

I have just installed Windows 10 32-bit on this laptop. I am trying to locate the driver for the Fn keys specifically so that I can turn on the wifi with Fn+F5. Windows is telling that I need to physically turn on the wifi switch on the laptop, but as far as I can tell there isn't one and the only way to disable and enable the wifi.

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has been having the same issue.

Windows 7 x64 series 8 motherboard. ASUS z87-expert.

My USB3 and USB2 are not working right after I install the Intel USB3 xhci Driver for Intel? 8/9 Series
version 3.0.1.41.

I have used the setup.exe to install the driver and the mouse/keyboard stopped working after the drivers are updated and I am not able to click the "Finish" button on the GUI to complete the installation.

Luckily that I was able to remote login to the PC to click the "Finish" button. After restart, the USB ports starts to work again.

A:USB port not working Intel USB3 xhci Driver for Intel 8/9 Series

Welcome to SevenForums,

It is a little normal that during the process of updating the drivers, it does disconnect the devices plugged onto ports, to swap drivers and write the files in order the new drivers to work. It does remap the devices.

It is always better to uninstall previous USB 3.0 drivers and use a usb 2.0 port to control temporarily another mouse to finish the process and the reboot required. Could be Intel xHci or AsMedia XHci ones...same same.

I am having a Lenovo 3000 Y410 notebook.  I had to format it because Windows had crashed. I decided to install Windows 8.1 32 bit Professional version on it.  I have managed to download the Windows Vista drivers for this model from https://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/ddfm/Y410.html and install them.  However, I am unable to install the "Lenovo Bluetooth Driver for Windows Vista (32-bit) - Lenovo 3000 Y410" driver sotware, as it says that the software is incomapible with the OS.  I am unable to get Bluetooth to work.  Can anyone at Lenovo help me please.

Hi Experts, I installed windows 10 64 bit version on my Lenovo 3000 Y410 and also installed drivers that came with the laptop when I first bought in compatible mode as Windows vista. Even then wifi is not working properly and speech recognition for cortana is not working. After searching for drivers in lenovo site and for any help in forums I found that my laptop is legacy system which is no more supported by Lenovo and found this link.  I would like to know if I can use any other Lenovo drivers that is closest to Lenovo 3000 Y410. I really appreciate any help with this. Regards,Richa
