Q: Problems with ThinkPad Yoga S1 WiFi adapter and au...

I've had my yoga for almost two years now and recently I've been having two issues: 1. The WiFi adapter will sometimes go out and it won't even show up on the device manager. The only "fix" I've found so far is to shut down and turn the computer back on (usually at least a couple of times) until the adapter starts showing up again. I've gone to the bios to check to see if it's showing up when I run the motherboard test and sometimes the PCI slot that it occupies doesn't even show up. I've been having to use a small USB WiFi adapter when the onboard adapter feels like being particularly uncooperative on certain days. 2. At random times (every few hours or so) when the laptop is just sitting on my desk, I will get an auto rotate notification and the screen will change its orientation, go into tablet mode, and disable the mouse and keyboard. Usually the screen will go back to normal after a few seconds, but the keyboard and mouse will still be disabled and the only way to get them both activated again (as far as I know) is to shut down the laptop and then turn it back on. My guess is that these two problems might be related. The reason why I think so is because I had similar issues a year ago with the WiFi adapter frequently not showing up on the device manager. I had the laptop sent in and it turned out to be an issue with the motherboard, which had to be replaced. So my guess is that there's something wrong with the motherboard again, which is affecting both the WiFi adapter and the sensor that controls the auto rotation. I'm hoping that's not the case, however, as the laptop has been out of warranty since last year. Does anyone know how expensive it would be to send the laptop in for repairs out-of-warranty? Because I imagine having to get the motherboard replaced again would be expensive. In lieu of that, I could just keep using the USB WiFi adapter, and maybe someone would know how to make it so that they keyboard and mouse don't both get disabled when the laptop auto rotates and goes into tablet mode?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently purchased a ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd (Type 20JD), and it came with a 65W adapter for USB-C (model 4X20M26268), there is also a 45W model through Lenova (4X20M26252), and numerous 45W and 65W slim travel adapters for Yoga models.  My question, can I use any Lenova 45W or 65W brand adapter with a USB-C cable?  I would prefer to use of the 45W or 65W travel adapters that have retractable plug, like the one for Yoga3...is there any risk? thanks!

I have X1 yoga laptop that won't boot. I tried booting from a USB, but that did not work. Hardware diagnostics returned no problems. At this point, I am trying to salvage my data from the SSD. I want to remove SSD from the laptop and connect it through some cable/adapter to another computer to copy my files. I see tons of options, but I am not sure which one would work for my SSD. The majority of SSD M2 to USB converters support B or B+M key, and then there is something about NVMe or SATA interface... I am very confused and know close to nothing about SSD types, etc. How can I get to my data?

Hi,My Y260 is having a weird trouble which I believe is hardware/motherboard related : whenever I plug the power supply, the CPU steps down to 0.38GHz... This is 1/6th of the full 2.3GHz the i5-6200U can provide, and the CPU is stuck at 16% use, which is 1/6th of 100%.If I unplug the AC adapter then the machine shuts down as if it had no battery. If I start it without an AC adapter then the CPU uses the full 2.3GHz and everything is fine, until I plug it in !I already tried disabling Intel Speedstep or any power saving stuff onto the BIOS, and I ran every Lenovo hardware tests and everything seems OK. Do someone have any idea about what I could try ?If none, I will have to call Lenovo (46 days of warranty left !) but I would prefer not I need my Thinkpad for my job. Thanks,Boris (from France so excuse my english)

I am thinking of buying an X1 Yoga, but am a bit concerned about the lack of ethernet port. I am looking for feedback on the OneLink+ to RJ45 adapter - Lenovo part #4X90K06975. This is the adapter with just the ethernet port - no other ports. I have found some feedback on the docking station, and the adapter with more ports.., but I am interested in the ethernet-only adapter. Does it work well? I've read about a variety of issues with the other adapter and the docking station. one thing that concerns me a bit about the adapter is that the OneLink "plug" looks like it sticks out a lot from the side of the laptop - is it the kind of thing that can easily get dislodged, or broken.., or worse yet.., damage the port in the laptop? This laptop will occasionally be used in a bumpy environment. I see that i also have the option of a USB-Ethernet adapter, but I would rather leave my USB ports free for other devices - connectig to instruments is one of the main jobs for this laptop. Additionally, I assume that the USB-ethernet adapter will need a driver, and i am worried about driver conflicts with the drivers for the instruments. Presumably, the OneLink to RJ45 adapter does not need a driver - is that corect? Thanks for any help

Hello I own a thinkpad S1 yoga laptop (core i3 processor and 4 GB RAM). It suddenly stopped charging using 45W adapter (20V, 2.5 A). However, it is charging fine using a 90W adapter (20V, 4.5 A) which I got with my previous Lenovo laptop Any recent windows or system updates caused this? Is there any solution other than using a 90W adapter which I am scared to use as it may charge 47W battery too rapidly casuing a quick death of battery or explosion in the worst case. Please help

A:Thinkpad S1 Yoga stopped charging with a 45W adapter

Hi Chaitanya,Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.As I understand that you have query regarding your 45W AC Adapter is not charging your ThinkPad S1 Yoga
I believe the AC Adapter has gone bad as you have mentioned that its charging fine with 90W Adapter
I don't think so it is caused due to software or Windows updates. You can also check whether its getting charged in shutdown mode or not to confirm.

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Hi all, I've already done a little research into my issue, but I just wanted to ask on here for some direct advice/sanity check. As the title suggests, I was trying to network boot some Yoga laptops using a ThinPad USB 3.0 network adapter (model RTL8153) but have been running into a problem where the adapter is seemingly not detected.  In the BIOS of each laptop it lists "ASIX AX88772A/B", which I gather is the supported chipset for USB network booting these laptops, whereas the RTL8153 is Realtek. When I try to boot, I get this: Enumerating for ASIX USB DONGLE ...
No ASIX USB Dongle found.
PXE-M0F Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device. Now, from my admittedly limited research, it appears that I simply need a USB network adapter with the aforementioned ASIX chipset. Is this true or is there a way to get the RTL8153 working?  Many thanks in advance! (PS Apologies if this is better suited for a more enterprise-centric area of the community! Feel free to move the thread.)

Hello,  this has been solved here, but the version of "defect" is indeed the opposite. (sorry my english)  As other users solved this problem with - it did not help using more powerful adapter with 90W 4.5A or upgrade BIOS. Power Saver off, no other power saver activated. Many times HW tests from Windows Troubleshooting and Lenovo Vantage - everything OK.  I attached here HWiNFO specification. - Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 460 (Windows 1709, all current drivers updated - no change with update 1803 - same situation)  The power adapter (and also i use many others - no change) will immediately reduce the processor frequency to a constant of 0.39GHz and using the bounce between 0 - 15% .Reinstall Windows, HW test and drivers etc. everything is OK.  Even no help from Settings - Windows - Options of Power - set min. usage processor 100% - no affects. The problem persists. ..omg... , whats that? Common opening of Explorer, Word, copying etc., and other elementary activities are now a matter of minutes - big loss of performance. Thank for your help

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of your Thinkpad Yoga 14?
Are you using Windows 10?

I may suggest you first to try to update the Wifi drivers and maybe some other of the system driver of you Yoga.
Here are my general tips:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers (use the full model number of your Thinkpad).

After that we can try a little bit more. For example I also like to test it on some other Wifi networks just to be sure it is not a compatibility issue with the Wifi Router.

Regards

I experienced a bizarre problem today and although I've resolved it now I thought I'd post it here just in case someone else experiences the same issue. The issue was in regards to WiFi not working properly on my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga S1. After a restart my computer's internet (with WiFi on) would work for a few minutes then it would stop. Long story short, I tried various things, and even uninstalled Norton and other software which I thought may have been a culprit but still the same issue. I also used a USB to Ethernet port (since there is no built in Ethernet port in the ThinkPad Yoga) and connected my computer with a cable and disabled the WiFi to see if it was the wireless hardware not working. Unfortunately still the same issue. Finally I noticed in the Windows Task Manager a process called "Discover.exe". It turned out this was using some noticeable amount of CPU and wondered what this was doing as I hadn't seen that before. I found out that this was a piece of software bundled in with my computer called Lenovo EMC Storage Connector. I'm not sure why it was running but I ended this process. Viola, suddenly my internet was working again! This time no problems.I uninstalled this software utility to make sure this doesn't cause this issue again. I can't understand why Lenovo bundles this software but this seems to have a serious defect and has cost me hours of trying to work out what was going wrong. I hope this is hel... I have a fairly new Yoga 920 I purchased back in November, 2017. Yesterday morning, when I was trying to start it from a shutdown, it got stuck on the splash screen. After several tries and getting stuck at the same splash screen, I tried a CHKDSK, which didnt's find any errors on the disk. Then I tried booting in Safe Mode, which worked with no problems. Since it boots fine into Safe Mode and but  not in normal start, I thought this was a driver issue. So, I started disabling components from the device manager, one by one, to see what driver was causing the issue. Qualcom WLAN Driver was the reason. I could boot in windows per usual after disabling the wifi adapter from the device manager. So, I decided to reinstall the driver after uninstalling the old one, but as soon as the driver starts installing laptop froze again. No BSOD or restart. Just frozen image on the screen, no response after waiting 5-10 mins. I actually had to disable wifi from bios to be able to use the laptop again with ethernet adapter I have. I am guessing this is a hardware related issue, so I ordered an intel 8260 ac adapter to see if that fixes my problem. Any ideas on what kind of issue there might be with the Qualcom adapter?

Last year I had the laptop sent to Lenovo to replace my screen because my brightness would not change. Since then, the wifi adapter would "disappear*" randomly, though not often, sand I would have to reinstall the intel WLAN drivers to fix it. I though it wasn't going to be a problem. However, in the past two days, the wifi driver would disappear every time I turn on the laptop. Reinstallation did not bring it back and repairs did not work. I had to resort to using an external wireless adapter. The volume down button seems to be stuck down, not physically but more like it was "stickied".*disappear- the drivers would be missing, not disabled. Device manager does not show a wifi adapter existing.

Have you tried resetting the battery? Power off the laptop. Underneath the laptop, located in the middle is a small pin hole. Using a straightened paper clip or sim card remover pin, press the pin hole. Power on the laptop and check again. As the battery is integrated, there is no physical way to take it out and put it back in. The pin hole (reset) mirrors this process.

Got new X1 Yoga 2nd Gen OLED, having problems with the display settings.  The screen colors are incredibly rich and the colors are borderline neon and strain the eyes after more than 15 minutes of use.  I finally found a way to reduce the neon glow by going to the Intel Graphic Settings and adjusting the color gamut option slider from vibrant to one step down toward natural colors.  The problem, is that after a the computer is put to sleep or restarted, it goes back to the neon colors.  Is there a way to get these settings to stay without having to change it every time I open up the computer?  The display is amazing for viewing movies with super vibrant sharp colors, but when it's in vibrant factory settings its very bad.  The colors on webpages and onscreen keep increasing and decreasing in brightness randomly.

I recently purchased a Planex WiFi USB Adapter (http://www.planex.net/product/wireless/gw-us300minis.htm) and am having trouble getting to remain connected to a wireless connection.

I have installed it fine, the drivers and software work and am using Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit). But when I go to Network Connections, and attempt to connect to a wireless network (right click connection > Connect / Disconnect), it seems to work fine for a short while.
It lists all wireless networks in the area, and I can connect to one. The Network and Sharing Center show the new connection as "Identifying...". However, shortly after this, the connection is disconnected. In addition, no wireless connections can be found anymore, without unplugging and then plugging back in the WiFi Adapter.
Right clicking and selecting diagnose returns the error "Windows cannot find any wireless networks in range of this computer."

Also, if I go to manage wireless networks, and add one, then attempt to connect to that, the same problem happens, but this time returns the error "Wireless association failed due to an unknown reason.".

The only ways I have been able to reconnect after losing connection now is to disconnect and reconnect to the network and to run windows troubleshooter which would fix the problem with the error detected being a valid ip configuration. I have connected to other networks and gotten this same behavior.

My internet connection connects but has the hello warning icon as it isn't connected to the Internet. When I trouble shoot it said there was a problem with the driver for the WiFi Adapter. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software and it hasn't worked. I have no internet and I don't know what else to try.

I have had my yoga 3 for 3 years now and I love it when it works properly, but it rarely does. The computer doesn't register that there is a network adapter installed, when I look at network adapters in the device manager the build in adapter doesn't show up unless I click show hidden devices and then it says that the device isn't connected to the computer. The weird part is that this doen't happen everytime, sometimes the network adapter works just fine but most of the time it doesn't work at all. So I can't connect to the internet with out an external network adapter. I've tried updating the drivers and even reinstalling the operating system neither did anything to help. The other issue I'm having is with the keyboard, the keys work but only intermittently. Sometimes I'll have to hit a key 3 or 4 times before it will register an input. I reinstalled the chipset drivers and that didn't seem to do anything.  Thank you for any help in advance, I really like this machine and I would hate to have to buy a new one after just 3 years.

I recently perchased LENOVO topline X1 Yoga 2nd gen OLED 20jD. I am really dissapointed with LENOVO topline laptop.  It is absolutely buggy laptop. Lenovo rushed the sales and missied the main poin IT IS YOUR TOP LINE/ YOUR FACE and YOUR PRIDE.Instead, I am getting1) constant BSOD (trying use my yoga laptop as a yoga - switching from normal position to tablet)2) Brightness issues (when I turn position it can not hold the same brightness level)3) Touch screen / Scrolling issues in Google Chrome is a long story and it was not fixed at all. Forget about using Chrome guys with this topline laptop/ After a few minuts your new yoga will stop working/ scrolling  Tomorrow I probably returning this buggy laptop back to lenovo and wait for another manufacturer who could launch OLED laptop without rush!

Let me start by saying I've tried everything that everyone has recommended to fix this issue. I can hardly ever connect to my router, when it does it says no internet connection. It will only connect when I'm right next to the router, and even then the speeds are miniscule, 2-5 Mbps when I get over 200 Mbps with my Galaxy S7 in the same place. The issue occurs on 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. It also occurs on other WiFi networks and while using my phone's mobile hotspot. Drivers are up to date.Wifi card is set to not turn off in Device Manager.Network card is set to max performance in Power settings.I have tried a factory reset of Windows 10.I have tried changing the channel on my router's 2.4 GHz band.I have checked the wifi card itself, as well as the antennas by a shop. They said the antennas look fine and are connected.I have uninstalled literally all bloatware that was on the device from factory.I have tried everything except replacing the WiFi card itself. The wifi card is Qualcomm Atheros QCNFA34AC. I'm not sure when it started but it has been happening for a while, I don't use my laptop that frequently. It could have happened after upgrading to Windows 10 from 8.1. In the mean time I have been using an ASUS Wifi USB adapter that works flawlessly, gets 100+ Mbps from the other side of my apartment from the router.

A:Yoga 3 14" wifi problems

Longshot you may have already tried: set the wifi card's channel width to 20MHz, or if it's already set that way try "auto" or the other possibilities.

I've seen the "connected but no internet" problem and worked around it this way.  Unlikely if it was working previously but easy to try.

Won't show available wifi.  Windows diagnostic test says Qualcomm Atheros adapter experiencing driver or hardware problem.  So how can I connect this laptop to internet using a USB port only? Yes I'm pretty low tech person in rural part of country.  Adapters are in short supply:-) Thanks!

A:Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

Ok, so I see that the earlier Yoga had problems with Wifi, and I'm wondering if this is the same problem I have with my Yoga 2 Pro. If the wifi signal is at all weak, it just seems to drop out. This is a huge headache and might be grounds for returning the machine, which I have already fallen deeply in love with. Is there a fix? Is this just me or is this an issue across the board?

Hello.
I am currently having a major problem with my Netgear Adapter. It is exactly like the problem this guy had in the following thread.

https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-connected-with-limited-access.879051/

I recently baught this computer. Which is a HP Compaq Elite 8000 Desktop PC.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...&utm_content=Active+&utm_campaign=retargeting

That is the PC Right there. Same one. Anyway when I first got this computer. I installed a Wireless Networking Adapter. Which at first. Ran fine. (Btw the Networking Adapter is a Netgear WN111 V2 Adapter.) After I installed the driver for it. Then when I updated the PC it suddently told me that my Networking Adapter was connected. But with limited Access. (Exactly same as the guy said in the thread above.)

I then today went and baught a brand new networking Adapter. And brought it home. Installed it. (Netgear N600 Wireless N Adapter With WNDA3100v3 Drivers.) Well when I installed that. The same thing happened. It told me I was connected with limited access. When I checked for problems it told me that it might be the drivers.

Well after that. I used system restore. And restored it back to when I basically first turned the computer on. And reinstalled the Drivers for my Adapter. And it worked! But then the moment I updated the machine with Windows update. It did it again.

I just find it strange that after I installed windows updates, updates. The networking adapter stopped working. Anyway... Read more

A:Problems with my Wifi networking Adapter.

it maybe that the windows update is also updating the driver to a generic driver
try going to device manager and on the network adapter - see if you goto the driver tab and "roll back" the driver

what windows version are you running

can you connect to the router with a cable and does it work when connected like that

post an ipconfig /all

------------------------------------------------------------------------

ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the information above those entries

Dear Expert, I downloaded HP connection manager and insttalled in my notebook. After installing HP connection, it showed network controller under other devices. Then I downloaded driver "sp57165" for Atheros AR9485 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 WiFi although I tried for Atheros 9485GN 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 WiFi as told by Paul_Tikkanen but failed to obtain from website. At the same time I downloaded another software "INF_allOS_9.4.0.1027" for Intel 7 chipset solution. Now I see WiFi Lan  message disabledby Mobility Center. How to seolve the WiFi connection problems?  I had enabled WiFi Lan enabled in BIOS which was shown earlier by HP connection manager. waiting for your reply thanks and regards Servent of the Almighty

Hi   My Wifi conneciton keeps dropping, it's not related to the router, as I have other computers and devices connect, also it happend with diferent wifi conections and routers. The connection just drops and then they cannot detect the any network for a very long time. I've restarted my computer to try and solve this but this doesn't always solve the immediate problem, it happends randomly, sometimes 3 to 4 time in a hour, then ok for a couple of hours.  I've realized also that sometimes when I'm working, even that on the task bar it doest show, when I press the notification setting on the taskbar I get that the flight mode is on, with bluetooht and wifi even though it's not?? I have lenovo solution center and lenovo companion intallled and apparentely all the lastest drivers. So is there a solution for this, or is my computer just fautly and needs to be returned?? Thank you for your help

Sometimes it just stops on me, or doesn't work right from the startup and sometimes it shows blue screen say  "Bluetooth verifier fault". It doesn't want to connect to any network. and rarely see my home's network at work that is 24km away. Maybe something wrong with your driver? or something. Now I'm trying Lenovo's driver and I will report you back. If you have something that you'd like me to do. If I'm not too busy, I will try.

I bought the Yoga 500 a week ago however immediately after starting it I have been faced with problems. At first i thought its normal since it is a brand new laptop and it takes time till it adjusts but that didn`t happen. The problems are as follows: 1) The mouse coursor  and touchpad keeps on blocking regularly. I tried it also with an external mouse and I faced the same problems. 2) WIFI:  a) it keeps loosing its signal continually             b) It dissconect from the wifi almost every 30 minutes              c) Whenever i want to reconnect to the wifi it shows there are no connections available eventhough my phone and my girlfriends laptop is already connected ( and there are over 5 other wifi-s available from my neighbors)             d) Every single time I have to use the troubleshooter which says "problem with wireless adapter or acces point". And then it dissconnects again.  Thank you for your help
