Solved: Excel toolbar button for the Windows Calculator

Q: Solved: Excel toolbar button for the Windows Calculator

I've been trying to set up a toolbar button in Excel that when clicked will bring up the Windows Calculator, but I just can't seem to find the way to do it. I know it can be done because I used to have it on my previous installation of Excel (Office Basic 2003 and my current installation is the same version).

Now I know I can just click on the Start Menu while I'm in Excel and then just go to Accessories and Calculator, but this is just a personal preference to have a toolbar button that will do the same thing.

I thought there was a Command Option that would allow me to just type in "calc.exe", but there's not. I tried a hyperlink to "Windows/System 32/calc.exe" and that works for the button (Custom button), but it gives a bunch of warnings before the Windows Calculator comes up. And as I recall, I never got those warnings before (one warns about hyperlinks and the other is similar).

And I looked on all the toolbar choices and I couldn't find any Windows Calculator button. There IS an Excel calculator button(s) to recalculate spreadsheets, but that's NOT what I want - I want the Windows Calculator.

I tried recording a macro and assigning it to the button, but the minute you go out of Excel the macro recorder doesn't record.

I also tried VBA, but I couldn't find any simple code to execute the calc.exe program. I thought maybe there would be a simple "run" statement, but I don't think there is. Actually, I'm not all that familiar with VBA code, so maybe there IS a way to do it with VBA.

But I certainly didn't use VBA the last time I did it. It was something simple (and, YES, I know that going through the Start Menu would probably be just as simple, but now it's become one of those "challenges").

And I've Googled and gone to the MS Office site, and still not found anything of help.

Anyway, this isn't really a "stop the presses" inquiry here. Just wondering how I did it before.

Any hints???

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Solved: Excel toolbar button for the Windows Calculator

Actually... I'm running Office 2003 Pro and it has the Windows Calculator as a button called "custom". Under Toolbars> Customize> Commands Tab, clicked on Tools in the left window and scrolled about 2/3 of the way down in the right window. I've got two "Custom" buttons listed after "Camera" and before "Select Names"; one with a deck of cards icon and the other with a calulator icon. Drug it up to my tool bar, saved the settings, and the Windows calculator opens from it. Solitare opens with the deck of cards icon

I didn't even know they were there.... cool.

The toolbar macro I created works fine as long as I run it using Alt F8, but I can't keep the Button on the toolbar ( That's what the button's for ,so I don't need to use the Alt F8 method). It disappears once I close Outlook, save the VB project and then reopen Outlook. This only happens on this PC. I have the identical system on my LapTop and the button is aways there as it is supposed to be when Outlook is opened, but not on this desktop PC.
Anyone have any ideas? This one has me stumped. I have already removed and reinstalled Outlook and it did not fix the problem.

I have a custom tool bar that I want to disable a specific button depending on where I am in the program. One of the buttons on the toolbar is named "Go To...". This button when chosen has about 12 other buttons that when selected take the user to various sections of the program. I want to be able to disable a specific button within the Go To... button. Lets say one of the buttons in the Go To Button is called "Projects". When I am in the projects section of the program, I would like the Projects button to be disabled. Obviously, there's no need to select it because the user is already there.

We know that in Windows XP, through the "Folders" button on Toolbar(in Explorer) may turn the “Folders Tree” On or Off;

In Windows7, you can click Organize(on Explorer Toolbar), point to Layout, and then click Navigation pane to turn the Navigation Pane On or Off.

However, Is there a simpler way to turn the Navigation Pane On or Off in Windows7?

For example, there is a "Show the navigation Pane." button on Windows7 Toobar
(looks like the "Show the preview pane." button on Windows7 Toobar or the "Folders" button on Windows XP Toobar)
click the "navigation Pane button" to be possible directly to turn the Navigation Pane On or Off.
(instead of "click Organize, point to Layout, and then click Navigation pane to display/hide it.")

okey,my question is:
How to Show(or Create) a button(“Show the navigation Pane.”) on Toolbar in Windows 7?

see screenshots below:

A:How to Create a button on Toolbar in Windows 7?

Yes i really want the answer to this question as well. why arent more people asking about it? it seems so obvious! and why did microsoft not provide support for it! i mean duh!

there are several sites which talk about how to do this. but as you can see its bulky when you have to have the full word "navigation pane" spelled out.

please someone figure this out and post back. thanks

I know a lot of others are plagued by the Start button issue. I am as well. But, also my Calendar and Calculator stopped working as well.

I have tried SEVERAL solutions. Re-installing all apps via Powershell, re-installing Windows 10 and creating new accounts. Nothing I do seems to help.

Getting tired of this, especially the Start button failing. thanks.

A:Multiple issues: start button/calculator/calendar not working

Hi, tends to be more prevalent where people have done upgrades rather than clean installs, but you're reporting clean installs. Never seen a clear explanation of why it happens- I've run Win 10 on 2 PCs with many progs installed and not had significant problems for months.

Note the Powershell commands used to repair apps e.g. break many post build 1511 (10586) unless there's been a recent change.

Bottom line- to fix your PC
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums

This keeps all settings and programs.

And support it with 3rd party disk imaging, so you can considerably more quickly than the above get your PC back to a working state.

Also enable System Restore, set up a scheduled task to create a restore point e.g. daily. (The tutorial section can help here on creating the restore point)

To try to diagnose its occurrence, keep a simple log of changes to your PC, and try to correlate that with this happening.

See what happens if you boot to Safe Mode when the symptoms occur. If the start menu etc works then, something is conflicting with Windows. If not, sthg's corrupted. Probably.

When I start my computer (a four-year-old Dell which runs Windows XP Professional), it loads without any problem, but when Windows starts, it won't display my desktop icons or the Windows bar that's normally at the bottom of the screen (including quick launch, the start button, the clock, etc.). The only thing that is visible on the screen is the My Documents folder (not Desktop or My Computer or anything else...always My Documents). Of course, from there I can navigate around and get things done, but it's obviously not ideal.

I originally posted the problem on the BC Malware forum (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic365343.html), but none of the scans and logs turned up any malware, so the person who was helping me suggested I take the problem to this board.

I think that's everything...please let me know if there's anything else I can add to make the problem clearer. Thanks for your help!

The company I work for utilizes military time for all production tracking and I'm thinking of helping the specialists out by creating a simple excel program to figure out the total time, in hours, that we should charge our customers.

The formula should be pretty simple but I'm finding it difficult to hash out in Excel. I need the user to be prompted to provide a Start Time, i.e. 1500 (3:00pm) and then provide and End Time, i.e. 2250 (10:50pm). The output should be in the form of total hours, rounded-up to the nearest tenth. So, in this case 7.9 hours.

Here is the conversion chart that the specialist utilize on the production lines.
Minutes - Hours
1-6 - .1
7-12 - .2
13-18 - .3
19-24 - .4
25-30 - .5
31-36 - .6
37-42 - .7
43-48 - .8
49-54 - .9
55-60 - 1.0

I am currently unable to upload anything from the computer I am using due to security measure and policies. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Posted this on another forum on this site and didn't get a solution.., come on Bomb#21 etc - don't let me down...

I have attached a screen shot which shows 3 programs running on the task bar at the foot of the screen.

Immediately prior to taking the screen shot, I had clicked on the middle program button which read "5 Microsoft Outlook", as (for the slow of mind) I had my Outlook inbox open and 4 mail messages/attachments open. The 5 Outlook 'files' were then displayed at the foot of the screen and I could click on any one to switch to it.

To the right of the Outlook button I have an Excel button which doesn't tell me how many Excel files I have open (there were actually 3 at that point) and (here's the problem !) doesn't allow me to click on the task bar button and click again on the file I want to switch to.

It's not a major problem, but it is a major source of annoyance.

At the risk of sounding like an ungrateful git, could someone tell me how to sort this once and for all, rather than "try this" or "try that".

A few weeks ago it was definitely do-able and I don't know what I have done to change things. I have tried changing the toolbar properties to group/not group similar files, but can't seem to get the result I want.

OK - rant over. I'm using XP Pro (2002 SP2) and the Excel version is 2000 (9.0).

The worksheet button disappears after macros runs. I'm the IT repair guy, not an Excel expert, so I’ll describe this as best I can. I understand this file basically does a checksum on a bunch of files. At the end, it is supposed to display some VBA script macro buttons, but all I get are some squares with Xs in them indicating an image is missing. The same file works on other computers, just not this one. I've uninstalled/re-installed Office but no help. I took a working file from another computer but it doesn't work on this one.

I have to assume there nothing wrong with the file or Excel, but something set wrong on this computer.

A:Solved: Excel macro button disappears

I am just guessing, but it sounds like you may have a custom button set for the macro and it either doesn't exist on that PC or does but in a different location.
Check this out
and this
You may just want to make your own button and give it the same name as the one that the macro is looking for.

Good morning all!
I have a Excel 2003 workbook which contains one control button on a worksheet (not on a form, boy I wish it was).

I need to have a macro run when the user mouses over the control button...not click it. Clicking the button will run a different macro.

Mousing over the button does cause the cursor to change from a "cross" to a "hand" so we know that Excel recognizes the mouse over.

If this can't be done, is there an alternative...perhaps hide a text box under the button which can detect a mouse over, or any other kind of control or cell that can detect mouse over.

Sample workbook attached (I think).

Any help is greatly appreciated,

A:Solved: Excel 2003 button mouse over help

Solved and if interested, here's what I did. First off, I was using a button from the Forms Tool bar. I switched to an ActiveX (actually 2) CommandButtons from the Control Toolbar. I put one directly on top of the other with the top one about 2 pixels smaller all of the way around. These Commandbuttons have the MouseMove function available.

Now for the programming: All programming is done in the Sheet code area. Both buttons have a MouseMove macro. The inner (main) button updates the time and sets a boolean variable true to prevent recursive triggering. The larger button clears that variable. This was the only way I could figure out how to recognize entering the buttons and exiting them.
The inner button also has a 'click' macro to call the proper subroutine. Obviously the purpose of this button is not to change the time...that just seemed to make for a good and simple example.

The working workbook is attached here.

Thanks to all of the lookers for your time,

Excel 2007 - Previous threads suggested creating a Macro to clear the data in the worksheet, which defines specific cells to be deleted.

If you need to reset the entire sheet or even one cell, then follow these simple steps using VB code.

Step 1: Select the entire worksheet, right click on any cell and select "Format Cells", select the "Protection" tab and click the check box "Locked". This will lock all cells. Click OK.

Step 2: Right click all cells that you want the data cleared and follow the same procedures in Step 1.

Step 3: Go to top Tool bar and select the "Developer" tab and click. In the "Controls" box select "Insert", in the ActiveX Control and select "Button" and place on your worksheet.

Step 4: In Top Tool bar click Design Mode, click on your new "Button" to select.

Step 5: In top Tool bar click "View Code" or right click your Button, in this VB window paste this "Code" I have in blue text:

Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()

On Error Resume Next
ActiveSheet.UsedRange = ""
On Error GoTo 0

End Sub

Step 6: Click on Design Mode, type text in one of the cells you have "Unlocked" and click your new Reset Button.

You can reuse this Rest Button on any worksheet by copying and pasting it. Just remember to define which cells are to be "unlocked".

2. Again the straight forward way by right clicking the button then hitting the delete on the keyboard. The same thing happens.
3. Just for fun, I moved it from is initial location to another location on the same spreadsheet. Now there are two identical buttons that canít be delete.
4. I donít know why, but I did it again. The new button that appears can be deleted, but not the other two.
5. Assigned a different macro to each of the two buttons and each worked properly, but still the buttons canít be deleted.
6. Copied the original to another sheet. It was easily deleted, but still canít delete the first two buttons.
7. My final try was to use the Visual Basic Editor to see if thereís a macros embedded in the sheet itself. No, nothing there.

Canít think of what else to try, except to ask for help.

I know this is probably an easy question, but I've searched repeatedly on the web and I can't find advice there or in the forums because I'm missing some kind of terminology.

I want to be able to highlight multiple words in Excel and see the home toolbar open every time I open a spreadsheet.
Longer explanation:
I'm using Microsoft Vista 2007 with Excel 2010. I use Excel to make quite a few spread sheets to study for school, and I often have to selectively highlight multiple certain words by hitting ctrl and holding ctrl while highlighting the words. Next I would underline all of the highlighted words. About a month ago it was working fine.
Suddenly out of the blue whenever I try to highlight multiple words by holding ctrl in Excel it won't work. Also, previously when working in excel 2010 the top menu bar would stay on home toolbar with all the option listed, meaning I could keep tinkering with the font uninterrupted. Now after underling just one word at a time the toolbar keeps disappearing with the File tab highlighted green, and I have to keep clicking back to the home tab, then click underline. Have to repeat highlighting each individual word,, clicking home tab, and then underlining. Ugh!
I would love to hear some advice before I tear my hair out in frustration.

I have several reports from a database that I have built for my boss to see different views of work progress. She currently copies and pastes to put them in Excel.

I'd like to provide her with a button she can click to Export everything to Excel for her. She is not the most tech-savvy, so showing her how to do it within Access is not a feasible option (she'd just ask me to show her every time she needed to do it).

Thanks in advance!

In Form design Mode the Form "Button Wizard" will create the button for you.

You then select the report that you want and then "Output to MS Exel"

Welcome to Seven Forums acm0000. I am unaware of a way to add those specific buttons. You can however left click and highlight multiple files, then right click the selections and both add to windows media player list and play will be choices. A Guy

When I purchased my Dell Inspiron Laptop, I used IE and I noticed I had a toolbar button (like the mail, print, edit) named Research. I had to reinstall windows after some software problems started to occur. After reinstalling windows, IE was reinstalled and the research button is no longer there. I never downloaded any extra toolbars, so I'm not sure where to get this button from. I would like to get it back. It was like a dictionary/thesarus type of thing.

Does anyone know how to create your own button to add to the Toolbar in IE, for instance instead of having "Media" I could have a button that started my FTP program. Many thanks

I'm a noob who needs help.

When I open a folder that contains files, then highlight the file I want, the little button that says email no longer works. It used to automatically open Outlook and have a message with the selected file attached ready for me to enter a recipient. Now when I click that button nothing happens. How can I fix it?

A:Email button in toolbar does nothing

Hello Saxby, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You migh check in Default Programs to make sure that Outlook is set as the default program with all of it's associations set to it.

Hope this helps,
