ThinkPad X1 Yoga 1st Gen (20FQ) - Bottom Cover replacement clips?

Q: ThinkPad X1 Yoga 1st Gen (20FQ) - Bottom Cover replacement clips?

I recently noticed a strange whiring noise directly related to fan speed, so seeing as the laptop was out of warranty (long story, but not really relevant) I opened her up and noticed the sticker on the fan was applied slightly offset and had bent inwards to lightly touch the cooling fan's blades. Repositioned the sticker cured the noise. Nice and simple.Upon re-assembly I noticed a broken clip belonging to the bottom cover. I've attached an image which highlights them, but they're screwed on to the cover plate, as opposed to being part of the moulding.Does anybody happen to know if these clips can be obtained seperately, if so, could you please let me know the part number? I've checked the parts website and it seems to only suggest an entire cover is available. For Lenovo to to have gone to the trouble of making the clips screw to the cover, it would seem that these are sacrificial sub-parts, it's a shame to spend almost £100 to get a rear cover, all for the sake of one replacement clip.Any help, gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there, I am new to the Forum. I hope you can help me.The original Windows was 8 upgraded to 10.I replaced the bottom cover. The Notebook was working fine before. In the proses I disconnected the CMOSS battery, HD, DVD, WiFi adapter, etc. I have done this before many times. Before assembling all back, as I usually do, I performed a quick test. I connected the LCD, memory, CMOSS battery, on/off button board, keyboard and DC charger. When I pressed the on/off button the led on the on/off board turned on, the CPU fan turned on, the HP logo on the back of the LCD turned on, the LCD screen stays black and the caps lock led start blinking once every 2 or 3 seconds.Because this Notebook was Windows 8 and use UEFI I decided to finish the assembling and try again. It responded the same as before.I can?t believe that the MB is bad; it was OK before replacing the bottom cover. Probably something to do with the UEFI/Windows 10 combination??????What I have tried?1-Hard Reset: no battery, no DC charger and pressing on/off button for 15 seconds.2-Disconected the CMOSS battery for several hours.3-Turning on and hitting the Esc, F12,F11,F10? button many times (all the F buttons).

I've had the Yoga 13 (1st generation) for a little more than a year now and the bottom cover of the laptop (with the 10 screws and the manufacturers stickers) has cracked right next to the hinge. The screw had fallen out and over time it eventually cracked. I replaced the screw so it's in place now, but I would like to replace the bottom panel. How would I go about removing it and replacing it? It seems to be attached to something and I don't want to just pry it open and break something. It's off warranty now too.  Thanks!

Good day and welcome to the community.

Sorry you're having troubles.
Here are a couple of resources that should help you with teardown and reassembly:
Hardware manual: http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_yoga_13_hmm.pdf
Service video: http://lenovoservicetraining.com/content/CourseWarePublic/17289/player.html

Essentially, it looks like everything must be removed from the lower shell to do the job.

Hope this helps a bit.

Hi, I'm having this annoying problem where each time I power on the computer, this tamper error message comes up, forcing me to hit escape so that i can boot to desktop.I've tried enabling and disabling this option in bios, resetting bios to default, setting and deleting supervisor passwords, none of that worked.I've also tried removing and putting the cover back on, checked for any visible spacing on the laptop case, no luck.I'm not that frustrated, but it still is kind of annoying.Anyone got any ideas?

Hi community, I've a very annoying problem with my X1 Yoga. I'm using the OneLink+ Dock at the office connected to two 27 inch displays. When setting up everything it worked pretty well. Yesterday i left my desk for a few minutes. All displays went to standby which is fine. When waking up the machine one external display stayed in standby mode. I tried everything I can think of:- disconnecting the display from power and reconnect it- disconnect the display port and reconnect it- change the display port cable (length should be no issue since it's 1m)- switching display ports at the dock between displays- removing the display in the device manger and detect it again- restart the computer- shutdown the computer, pull every power cable and put everything back together- change the OneLink+ Dock ... nothing helped. What's strange: the internal and the working external display are shown as "PnP-Monitor" and the display not working is shown as "Digital-Flatscreen (640x480 60Hz)" In the Intel HD Graphic application I can see the display but can't change anything about it. I can move it around from left to middle to right position and back. Still I can't change the resolution nor turn the display back on. Yesterday i changed the non-working display with another one of the same kind and it worked again. Today the same happend to the other display that worked all the time. The displays are working on other machines so they're not broken. I have another ... Read more

First, to make this absolutely clear: there isn't even an entry in Device Manager, as in "there's an unknown device". The touch screen completely disappeared as a device. Nothing detects it. Even the WriteIt app cannot start because it cannot detect touch or pen inputs. Second, this happened approximately two months ago. Since many updates installed then I cannot tell after which one specifically it happened. There were Windows updates but also a ThinkPad BIOS v1.38 update through Lenovo Vantage. After that the touch screen hasn't work and is still not working. That's two months. Unfortunately I cannot rollback updates through Lenovo Vantage (and anywhere else for that matter). I can only rollback Windows updates but there are so many, it'll be very time-consuming and inconvenient. I don't want to sound whiny and entitled but I still cannot understand how is it possible to have this issue for so long without any available resolution. Basically I cannot use the touch screen of a device which main selling point was the touchscreen. Is there a way to do a hardware diagnostic that will tell me more? I tried browsing through the BIOS but couldn't find anything. I doubt it is a hardware issue because I've always been very protective with my machine and haven't abused its flexibility in any way. It's mostly staying as a normal laptop on my desk with the ocassional change of posture to bring the touchscreen closer to me. I really hope something can be do... Read more

Does anyone know where I can purchase a replacement screw set?  I have to replace my LCD assembly and they made the screw for the WLAN so tight I've now stripped it.  I checked the parts list on the Lenovo site by putting my serial number in, but it doesn't seem to be on the parts list.  I know I ordered a complete set of screws for my old Lenovo SL500 when I had to replace the right hinge.  I thought it was directly from them, but now I'm not so sure.  Thanks!

Hi,

The base spec and hardware maintenance manual should help with this.

Base Spec

(English) Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad Yoga 12

Please note that neither the 2.5 inch HDD/SSD or m.2 SSD are listed as self-service CRU (customer replaceable unit) or optional-service CRU so you may face warranty issues if you attempt this yourself.

Hello all, Please forgive if this has been posted. I couldn't find an answer: I purchased a replacement for my battery, but on installation it wouldn't charge. I tried disabling AC and battery in device manager. I tried complete shut down and reboot. Couldn't get the new battery to be recognized. The old battery still works a bit, so I'm not in serious trouble. but with the battery going on a few years old, I wanted to replace before it left me stranded. Is there something that must be done to tell the system (Win 8.1 x 64 pro) to recognize that the battery is new, and to reflash the battery firmware and reset the driver? Simply replacing the battery didn't quite get the job done. Thank you for any response.

Part number 00JT241 - where can I order them? Two of the rubber feet from my Yoga S3 14 have repeatedly fallen off, this time they are lost. For some reason I expect a business laptop to be built for standard use, such little problems make for big annoyance. I need replacements, have a part number, but can't find a source - and I don't expect to buy a housing for my laptop to replace tiny rubber parts because Lenovo used an inadequate glue. I've had terrible experience with Lenovo customer service, especially in connection with a laptop I bought for my daughter, which was held in service for 5 WEEKS!!! and returned with no repair other than a reformatted hard drive. I had to get very loud in order to get the machine back at all. This is unacceptable, and can only make good business customers look for other manufacturers. Lenovo, are you listening?

Hello, i have some issues with the display of my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 260. It shows some yellow spots on the display, especially in the lower corners. I have already contacted the Lenovo Support Team concerning warranty. But Lenovo claims, that my Laptop is no longer covered by the warranty, because i have removed the lamination sheet of the display and replaced it by another one. So now i want to exchange the display on my own. Is it possible to order a display without any further services, so that i can do the exchange of my display by my self? I take very good care of mine and I am surprise to see this happening to it. This is not the first problem I had with it. Just after I bought it the screen died and suport changed it for me cause the warranty was still on. I've seen posts of people having the same issue and it seems that this happens after the warranty is done. I think this should be a recall problem to be sloved by HP.If not at least some guidance should be given to us customers on how to fix it by ourselves. Everytime I open my laptop to use it I can see the gap becoming bigger, it can be fit back in place once the screen is closed, but is never 100% when the screen is open. I am worried about damage of the laptop components. Please help! Thanks

Hi, I have a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro (x64) on my X1 Yoga, installed in UEFI mode. I wish to encrypt the drive with Bitlocker with TPM and PIN. Another user on a different thread alluded that this is not possible as the X1 Yoga I have uses a PCIe-NVMe disk, for which there is no hardware support for Bitlocker. Is this correct or am I confused?

A:Lenovo X1 Yoga (20FQ) BitLocker with TPM and PIN

I meant you cannot use the AES hardware engine of the NVMe SSD (if a SED like the OPAL2 option) - but you can use software BitLocker just fine. This means the CPU will have to do the crypto instead for some performance penalty depending on your I/O - see CPU utilisation during a benchmark for example. Also do note that using FDE (full disk encryption) on a SSD is not "great" as the whole disk "looks full" to the SSD - so you may need to over-provision for best performance. You can also use "encrypt only used space" instead. There are pros and cons for each.
