T430s + Docking station, max supported monitors (windows 2, ubuntu 3)

Q: T430s + Docking station, max supported monitors (windows 2, ubuntu 3)

I have a T430s and a Docking station. I attached 2 monitors to the docks DP and DVI ports. Windows only allows me to use 2 of the three total monitors (2 external + Thinkpad LCD) at the same time. I have already read that the HD 4000 Card only supports two monitors. However, using Ubuntu allows me to have all three monitors active at the same time. How is this possible?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there, I'm having a t430 notebook with NVidia Optimus and according to this post here https://support.lenovo.com/en/en/solutions/migr-76617 I should be able to extend my display with at least 2 more monitors. My display settings correctly identify all 4 displays that I have connected right now: 1 laptop display, 1 VGA monitor, and 2 x DVI monitors but I only can use 2 displays at once (the t430s's display and another "random" monitor). If I pull out one of the DVI monitors, then, another one will take its place an so on, but not more than 2 displays at once. What can I do to have at least 3 displays (the laptop's display and 2 more monitors)?

Hi folks!I'm using my t430s in several areas, such as my parents house, or even at home, workplace, coffe shops, etc.... Well, at my parents house, i'm using a type 4336 docking station, with an old sharp FHD external tv hooked to the vga output.. And i used to activate it with fn+f7, when it's needed to show anything, when its necessary.... I have updated the windows lately, but after it the settings gone insane, and when i connect the laptop to the 4336 it sends the screen to the external, and need to change it back to laptop lcd by pressing the mentioned keys before. It is pretty frustrating, and i don't find the setting, which i was able to find before the update. It did the same way after the previoius update too.can somebody please help?I'm soo dissapointed in the new windows stuff by now. I used win 7 x64 for a looooong time, but.... the system came with win8 so its free os for me, and deceided to use it instead of 7. It was a mistake i know... Thank you in advance!carrEdit: I just noticed, if i close the lid, the secondary monitor is becoming the primary, and it turns itself on. How did this gone so bad?! :@

I have several Probook 6540b laptops, one of which has Ubuntu 16.04 loaded.  I'm using them with the Advanced Docking Station (p/n NZ223AA#ABA) that has a DVD/R installed in it.  The laptops running Windows 7 have no problem recognizing and using the DVD/R in the docking station but the Ubuntu laptop does not find it.  Ubuntu has no problems finding the USB ports and sound ports and video port, but not the DVD/R.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I recently received a ZBook 15 G3 with the ZBook dock. After installing Ubuntu 16.04 the dock didn't work at all, it only powered the laptop. I changed the BIOS security configuration for the Thunderbolt port (under Advanced, Ports) and was able to get an external disply working. However, the USB ports on the dock are still not working, the audio jack isn't working and the ethernet port isn't working. When connecting a cable to the ethernet port on the dock the laptop will show that it's connected but there still isn't any internet connection.I will appreciate any help as right now the dock is pretty much unusable.

I need a laptop that will run 6 monitors from a docking station. According to AMD and NVDA the cards in the latest laptops WX150 and M2200 are capable of doing this. In the past, AMD has been the best for multi display solutions (at least on the consumer side of things). Are either of these capable through the dell docking stations? If so, what would be better and what dock would I need?

I have multiple setups this will be docked to, including

I work from home and all the equipment I have was provided by my company.  I have an HP ultra slim docking station which my HP laptop is connected to.  Also connected to the docking station is a mouse, keyboard, and two HP EliteDisplay E190i monitors.  Since hooking everything, I keep losing my screen.  What I mean by that is they keep going black and when they come back on, the screen distored and there is an error message at the bottom of the screen.  I can't recall the exact message because it disappears pretty quickly but it basically says that the graphics was lost.  I assume this has something to do with running three screens on the docking station (the laptop, and two monitors).  Is this right?  If so, how do I fix it?  I lose time everytime it happens becuase I usually have to reboot the system to get rid of the distortion.  Please note:  I have called my IT and they aren't too much help.

Hi, I am looking to purchase an XPS 15, 16GB RAM and 4k touch model.
I want to use this laptop with one (maybe two at a later stage) external monitors. I am considering purchasing monitors that are 4K, although I may opt for FHD instead. Ideally I am looking for a docking station that connects to the thunderbolt USBC port, and that gives me USB ports, Ethernet, and display outputs.
However, I haven't been able to have any luck (in the UK) at finding this. Why? Because I can't find anything that will allow me to output to two 4k monitors at 60hz frequency.
The closest thing I found was this, and I don't know if it will work especially since the monitors I am looking at don't have displayport:
However with this I can't use it like the docking station as it only does the displayport and not the Ethernet and USB, so I would have to get separate adapaters and separately charge the laptop - very messy and time consuming every time I want to use the laptop away from home to unplug everything!
Please can someone advise me on a good docking station that supports two 4k monitors at 60hz in the UK?

I have been using a T60 (1951-A31) with a full docking station (2505) with both video ports in use.  It worked fine. I have since upgraded to a T400 (6474-U11).  Physically it fits and powers up with no issue.  Originally it contained two 1Gb So-Dimm sticks of ram (PC3-8500s).  I have since tried to upgrade the ram to a stick of 2Gb and a stick of 4Gb (PC3-10600).  If I leave a single stick in place I have no problems.  when I try to include 2 sticks of the new ram, I get a horizontal "shredding" effect on the back ground, the icons, and any windows I open.  I atempted to use one new and one original memory stick but ended up with the same problem. I have tried using a second identical docking station, but with the same results.  I can confirm that the T60 has no issues with either docking station.  The T400, by itself, with a monitor connected to the VGA port on the side has no video issues.  I have done a remove/reinstall of the video drivers.  I am one version back on the BIOS with no way of upgrading until I get a replacement battery. Would anyone have a suggestion on how to clean this up, other than sticking to a single stick of ram? Thanks, butterball

The problem is the Laptop and or the D3100 are not recognizing the 2 other E2317H Monitors that are connected to the 2 HDMI ports with HDMI to DP cables. The OS kind of detects the monitors but will not push video to them. I have tried every which way I can think of with the OS and the Display Link software and have no joy. That could be because you are using Windows 7 but is more likely to be because of the video solution your notebook has. With AMD's Radeon Eyefinity there would not be an issue. See the following HP document Updated!http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c02948215-6 I know that may not be what you want to hear, but you are likely to be doing the maximum in terms of video output with the notebook's video capabilities. Your notebook has only the Intel HD Graphics 4000.  There are, however, more advanced options available, but they are pretty costly.

A:HP 90w docking station supporting dual monitors

Hi, Thanks for joining the Forums today! While using your 8570w monitor, when connected to a docking station (we tested this using an advanced docking station ) there are two valid setups to get three independent screens. You could connect two extra monitors through DVI or just one monitor through DVI and another through Display port. This is using the advanced docking station. If one of your monitors is VGA it still should work the same as above. Here is a link to a picture of an adaptor you can use to connect via Display port: http://img.misco.eu/resources/images/products//100/HWP/FH/FH973AT/FH973AT_6_1600x1600.jpg Let us know if you need further assistance.  Thank you,

Does anyone know if the Advanced E-port docking station for the Latitude E6400/E6500 supports dual DVI 22" widescreen monitors being used in extended mode ?
Apologies if there is already a thread on this but I find the new forum format impossible to search.  Any tips on how to narrow down searches would be gratefully received.

A:Docking station compatibility with dual DVI monitors

I have multiple users using dual DVI monitors and the docking station. At this time, I have only been able to get them up and running using one as a DVI monitor and the other as VGA.
Another post says to connect both to the DVI output, then manually configure the monitors to the DVI input using the monitors menu system. (Not the "Auto Detect" ), then with both monitors powered up, dock the laptop. I am trying this tomorrow.
Once the dual monitors are up and running, open the windows Display properties, select the NVIDIA tab, go to the NVIDIA console and setup your configuration as desired. Exit the console, then the Windows Display properties, and it should hold the configuration.

Yet, if the user anticipates the boot up process and logs on without seeing what's even on the laptop screen, the monitors will eventually come on after windows loads. Any ideas out there to fix?

Morning All,  I've got an Elitebook 2740 which I use mostly on a WA994AV docking station.  My primary monitor is the 12" screen on the laptop and I have a second monitor connected to the docking station which is monitor 2. What I'd like to know (before I purchase a second screen), is if I can buy a VGA splitter, connect that to my docking station and run two external monitors from the docking station.  I find the 12" screen fine when travelling, but when working from home and need to use two screens I constatnly find myself dragging items onto the external monitor to work on due to it's larger size.  If the docking station will support two external monitors (or even 3 with the laptop lid openned) it would make my life a lot easier.  If anyone can tell me if this is posible it'd be great thanks.  ALso, if there's a way top permanently set it so that the external monitor(s) are set to Extend desktop when I start the laptop it would be great. Currently Windows 10 (64 bit) will start with extended desktop, then after about 30-60 seconds it will flip over to duplicating the laptop display onto the external monitor and I have to change the display outputs everytime.

I just received my Latitude 7370 along with a D3100 docking station.
According this article: I should be able to get 2560x1440 on HDMI, I'm stuck at 2560x1080
Running 2 external monitors ( LG-34UC87C-B)
Display port @ 3440x1440 (this works fine for me)
HDMI 1 @ 2560x1440 ( I cannot reach this, I can only get 2560x1080..?)
HDM 2 is not used
Running the HDMI @ 2560x1080 just looks horrible, how can I achive the 2560x1440 that this device states it can handle?
If the D3100 cannot handle what I require does Dell make a Docking station for the 7370 that will handle idealy 3440x1440 x2? either HDMI or DisplayPort.

Hi BRAD954,
What is the docking station model? What digital cable are you using? And the monitor models? What is the OS installed on the system?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1Mzks6r and reinstall the chipset drivers from the same site.
Download and reinstall the display link drivers for your OS - http://bit.ly/1T8FdoX
If the issue is not resolved, then provide us the event log in your response, for us to review.
If there is a specific docking station, we can provide few other drivers for them.

Hi, I don't necessesarily need a docking station, but if it only costs a little more than other solutions to drive 2 monitors then I might as well get a docking station. What should I look for?  I see there is a Lenovo part I can get (0A33970) used for $60-$70.Whatever I get I'd want it to be generic enough to use with other laptops I use. The other laptop I'd want to use it with also has a Thundrebolt port if that makes a difference.  But I think I'd rather have a USB3.0 solution since Thunderbolt is Intel only and I can foresee some AMD Ryzen in my future. So that Lenovo 0A33970 is a USB3.0 docking station.  Does anyone know if this would work with other devices than Lenovo?  I'm especially curious about the gigabit ethernet port... is this a real network adapter itself over USB or does it somehow do passthrough to the existing network interface on the laptop? I'm open to non-lenovo solutions as well.

It is now paired with a old monitor and I wan't to invest in a good monitor.  I use it for different task at work, including regular office (word, excel ...), web browsing, digital drawing, photo editing, video editing (both HD and  4K 3840 x 2160) and viewing VR models in Sketchfab.  I'm looking at ThinkVision monitors and I wonder if whether HD, UHD or 4K is the right choice, I would be happy to get recommendations? Is it capable of 4K? If I buy two monitors, do they have to be similar regarding definition and aspect ratio? Specifications:Lenovo Thinkpad P50 Windows 10Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1505M v5 @ 2.80GHz32GB RAM64-bitIntel(R) HD Graphics P530 Regards,Ron

There is no right choice for everyone.  I will say that right now, I am using a ThinkVision X1 (4k) and it looks really good to me.  I really like the sharp text.  The speakers aren't great, which is common for thin monitors.  The viewing angles are good.  I removed the stand and am using a VESA-mounted stand, which I like.

Hello, so I purchased the TB15 docking station thinking it would support up to 3 external monitors for the XPS 13, since it has a VGA, HDMI port and Display port mini. I can get 2 external monitors to work, but I can't get 3 to work. I wanted to keep the lid closed and use a 3 external monitor setup. I already purchased the monitors and my desk mount stand for 3 monitors... If the docking station won't work, does anyone know of any alternatives?

A:Does TB15 Docking station support 3 external monitors with XPS 13 9350?

The integrated GPU can drive 3 monitors, but that includes the laptop screen. If you disable laptop screen you should be able to get 3 external monitors to work.

I had the problem with the docking station and external monitors flickering or going blank for a few seconds. I did the firmware upgrade to the latest version for the 40A2 Ultra Dock. It now works a lot better. Great! The new problem is now that I need to replug the monitors after the W541 has been asleep after closing the lid for a while, otherwise it will not detect them. My W541 also has the latest video driver that I could download from Lenovo. When I close the lid for a few seconds only and the machine also goes to sleep and then I wake it up it does extend the display to my 2 external monitors again, though. Well, maybe it's not completely asleep yet, but the monitors are blank while the lid is closed for this short period of time. It seems like it suffers from amnesia after longer sleeping periods and it's a bit annoying having to pull the HDMI and display port cables every time... Thanks for your help,   Stefan

I just bought two LG E2340 Monitors that I want to hook up to my docking station. I have 1 VGA connector and 1 DVI connector. My laptop is a Dell Latitude D630. I have been reading other forums and they say in Display under Settings I can see which monitor is which but it doesnt say VGA or DVI.....
1 says Plug and Play Monitor on Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family
and
2 says (Default Monitor) on Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

But they both slaved to one another, (they are showing a mirror image of each other)

what am i doing wrong?

I dont quite understand your setup sorry, you have a laptop (with a screen) that you want to connect 2 more screens to, thus ending up with 3 screens total? if so, Its unusual for a laptop to be able to do that.
Anyway, have you check the box which says "Extend my desktop onto this monitor"? in display properties? if that isnt selected they will just display mirror images like you say.

I have the new X1 Carbon 6th Gen with the ThinkPad Ultra Docking Station (40AJ0135US) and have noticed any time I lock my computer and my screens turn off or my screens just turn off from the computer being idle for the set amount of time that when it comes back up that all my windows have moved to the main laptop screen. I have two monitors plugged in with DisplayPort to the dock and I use the laptop screen as the main screen. Has anyone else noticed this same issue? Any fixes?

I have a Dell laptop on a docking station running Windows 7. Everyday I place it on the docking station and use my 20 inch monitor. Is it possible to activate the dual monitor feature and use the 20 inch as the primary and use the open laptop as the secondary monitor? If so, what should my settings be?

A:How do I configure dual monitors with laptop on docking station and external monitor?

The value of 'Multiple displays' (see attachment) should be 'Extend these displays.' You may have to switch the positions of the two monitors (at the top of that window).
