Processor : Intel Q6600

Graphic Card : Nvidia 280GTX

Any help will be appreciated

Preferred Solution: Video - Strange crash

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Geforce 9600 GT
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
Recently my PC has developed an issue that is plaguing it with crashes. I've only noticed this specific issue happen when playing the game Warcraft III, which is strange as my PC specs are much higher than what is needed for such an old game.

The textures will distort out of control and I will be left with blurred colors, sometimes the PC won't crash immediately, but rather after I do something that involves a major graphics change. (IE: opening a video game or pressing "show desktop") My mouse is one of the peculiar aspects of the distortion, as it also is distorted. My mouse will look as if it blew up, and there will be colors around it that weren't there before.

Naturally one would suspect the video card, but that's where I'm stumped. Recently I purchased a set of ram, (same ones I'm using now) and a new video card (Geforce GTX 260). The Ram was DoA, so I RMA'd it and have yet to receive a pair that actually works in my computer. The video card seemed to work fine but after a week this issue started. I RMA'd the card and shipped it out, putting my old card back in. And then it started up...again. With a completely different card that has worked fine for over a year.

My friend suggested this could also be caused by my Ram or processor. I... Read more

A:Strange crash issue involving video distortion

Sounds like video card or memory... But it could be a cpu fan, incorrect thermal paste, bad cable..
Everything needs to be tested in a systematic fashion... But it has to be a hardware iisue...
I would run MemTest 86 one more time, on one module at a time... for four hours or 7 passes, which ever is longer... and no going to bed while it runs.

I built a new PC a while back, specs are:
Intel QX9650
Asus Striker II Formula 780i Motherboard
2x 512Mb Geforce 8800GT in SLI (Asus EN8800GT)
4Gb Corsair 800mhz ram.
Asus SupremeFX II Audio card (Came with the motherboard)
1000Watt power supply
250Gb hard drive for my OS, 500Gb for data storage.
Vista Ultimate x86

My problem is that when I'm watching some video, every so often the video will get colourful lines through it and a square block will show around my cursor. Photograph of screen: link

If I move the cursor around after it "glitches", within a few seconds the machine locks up and my monitor goes blank. All I can do is restart the machine.

Anyone know what is wrong? I have the latest driver for the graphics cards.

I have a friend who gets the same thing in vista, but says he hasn't had it happen at all in XP.

A:Crash during video playback, pixels show around cursor prior to system crash

It sounds like artifacting which occurs when a video card is dying. I speak from personal experience. Or it could be a heat issue. What is your temperature like? How is your airflow? Check to see if your fans are working.

I have been having consistent trouble with windows freezing, browsers crashing, shockwave crashing and especially anything video related crashing. When it crashes it freezes my entire computer forcing me to hard reboot.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled browsers and programs to no avail.

The latest attempt was running Kapersky, Avast, Spybot, Hijack, CCleaner (fixing registry problems and wiping free space drive), defragging, uninstalling programs down to bare bones essentials.

Ran Kapersky - found nothing
Avast - found nothing
Hijack this found all kinds of stuff that I didn't know what to do with and wouldn't give me a log
Spybot S&D.- 43 problems fixed
Ccleaner download registry.

I uninstalled and installed adobe flash which is what keeps crashing.
uninstalled half of my programs
wiped drives with ccleaner

Ran everything again. Spybot found more to fix which it did.

I then Rebooted in safe mode and was able to save a log for HiJack this time.
I followed the suggested Preparation Guide here. After running GMER scan is says "Hasn't found any system modification"
The ark.txt log was blank. Services, Registry, Files and C: were the only boxes it allowed me to checkmark. Everything else was greyed out.

Below is a copy of the Hijack log that I was able to get after rebooting in Safe Mode and the DDS file.

Have you tried to uninstall/reinstall Video Card drivers?
Can you test if you have the same problems in Safe Mode with Networking?

I went to the UFC's website and clicked on one of the video's they had embedded in their scrolling news on the home page. The screen went black and then came back, saying that the video driver had shutdown and recovered. I refreshed the page, assuming it was just a glitch. I clicked the same video to watch it and my computer seized up and I got a blue screen. I didn't have enough time to read everything on the blue screen, but I caught a little bit saying that Windows had encountered an error with the video driver and needed to shut down. The computer rebooted a bit sluggishly, but now appears to be fine. Any ideas as to whether this is a problem with my video card's driver or the video on the site? Videos elsewhere work fine.

A:Video caused video driver to crash, reboot, and then blue screen.

First you can download Speccy to check the temprature of the display card, mainboard to see whether it's normal:
Then you can try to reinstall the driver of the display card or upgrade the driver.

First, my specs. I also have two monitors via Sabrent USB to VGA devices. While I was out of town last week, Windows delivered an update to the Intel P630 graphics. Got home, put my P51 in the docking station. Bam, video driver keeps crashing, reverting to the basic driver and disabling all my external monitors.  I finally tracked it to the Intel P630 driver, I can uninstall it and reboot and it works fine for a while, but then after a reboot it crashes again.  I've tried reinstalling the NVIDIA driver from both their site and the Lenvo support site, no change. I looked for the P630 driver, but couldn't find it on the Lenovo site, at least as an independant download. It may be included in some other download. I did try getting the P630 from the Intel site, but what I downloaded said it wasn't compaitble with my machine.  Right now it has the same image on the internal monitor and the two monitors hooked to the docking station. Yes, the exact same image on three monitors, which shouldn't be possible under Windows. The two monitors coming in over USB seem to be OK and not have the "same desktop everywhere" issue.  I actually have two docking stations with external monitors, I have an office upstairs in my h... We have T470 (20JM) and T470s(20JS) in our environment. Both models are having a problem connecting to external displays using HDMI Intermittently and sporadically the screen goes blank. It does not matter what order I turn on the devices or connect the cables. Randomly the screen will go black - sometimes the image comes back within a few seconds; sometimes the image blinks on and off for up to a minute; sometimes the image is steady and the monitor is usable for an hour or two; sometimes the image stays off for so long (about 30 seconds) that I get a "No Signal Detected" message from the monitor, only to have the image return (sometimes within seconds, sometimes within minutes, sometimes within hours).

I'll start off my saying that I have no idea if this is the best place to post this, or if anyone will have the expertise to be able to help or be able to point me somewhere that may.

I maintain a program that some people use in CS:GO and other games for raw mouse input. It needs to detect when frames are rendered to make it work as intended for all the in-game menus and such, so I hook D3D9 Endscene. Source code in case that can help: https://github.com/VolsandJezuz/Rinput-Library

Anyway, one user (on Windows 10 x64) is having a strange issue where CS:GO crashes immediately when my DLL attempts to inject. I looked at the game crash dump (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2...mJINm9EMGpDbWs), and it seems like it's some conflict with Data Execution Prevention, but I don't really know enough to get more out of the crash dump than that guess.

The strange part is that it only crashes for him with v1.42 and v1.43 of my program, which utilize a mid-function hook for D3D9 Endscene. But earlier versions which use a different hooking method aren't a problem.

I'm wondering if it's something to do with a Windows 10 feature, because it's security features have caused me headaches in the past with another program I made. But I've had another user with Windows 10 x64 try v1.43 and it worked just fine.

We've tried disabling DEP, running all involved programs as administrator, and reinstalling CS:GO and Steam. I'm have no idea how to narrow down what is causing this... Read more

A:Strange CS:GO crash

Well, this is the right place to post. But, sadly, I can't really help you with this. If it's a "data Execution Prevention" that's probably the problem, the data is being blocked from doing what it's supposed to do. Though I'm not sure why you or really anyone else would need frame-by-frame mouse input, it'd be more responsive to use hardware mouse acceleration, and less laggy.

AMILO Notebook Pa 3515
I bought this notebook model in 2008. I tried to install Windows Vista and Windows 7 on this laptop and it did not work either in properly. It works perfectly for a few minutes at maximum settings and then get stuck (there are some squares on the screen,Like the desktop was broken in many pieces).Sometimes it works a whole day, and sometimes just a few minutes. I gotta stop button. It works perfectly on Windows XP. I did update the bios to version 1.16 as is recommended. But do the same.
How can I do to run a better version of Windows? I tried latest drivers from the video card manufacturer. And all updates to date. SystemDiagnostics tool finds no problem.
And no crash dump.
I will come back with some photos taken with phone.

Thank you.

My AOL Instant Messenger seems to have a problem with links. Any kind of link that would redirect me from the program itself, even its own Edit > Expressions... link seems to crash it. No warning message or anything it just shuts itself off. The same goes for any kind of link that is sent in an IM as well as when someone sends me a file, if I try to click it from inside the AIM window to open it it crashes. I have tried older versions and am currently using the newest version. Any ideas?

Aside from a good cleanup, I don't know what else to recommend. Uninstall, reboot, open regedit and remove any reference to AIM, reboot, reinstall.

I just got myself True Crime: Streets of LA, and I'm encountering a bit of an unusual problem. All the pre main menu cutscenes work fine, as does everything in the menu, but when I start the single player game, I get about 10 seconds of the intro, then the screen freezes. The audio keeps going, and then when I press escape, my screen simply goes black, and the audio keeps going.
I managed to skip the cutscene (everything is still working, excepting the visuals) and got into the first mission, which is indoors, and the cutscenes worked fine. When I got outside, however the game froze again.
I've concluded it only freezes when I'm seeing outside, in the streets.
I've found that if I press the windows key to minimise it, then I restore it, I get about a second of gameplay (outdoors) before it freezes up again.

My specs are:
Intel Pentium 4 3ghz
512MB Ram
ATI Radeon 9200 256mb
Benq FP757 Monitor

I updated the Catalyst drivers, I'm running Direct X9.0b and I ran Windows udpdate, just to check if I'd missed something.

Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I'll put my DX Diag stats in the next post.

I've been playing a game on high detail (not a demanding game) for a few years and I suddenly started crashing. The screen would just go black and my computer's light was still on but the sound went all weird and I basically had to force shutdown from the power button.

I posted on this forum about it and I found a problem with one of my ram sticks though memtest so I removed and replaced it and the crashing seemed to stop. The only problem is all of the games which I played still crashed but only on the detail that I was using before I started crashing. So aslong as I lowered the detail I no longer crashed. I have no idea how/why this is happening and it's really annoying me.

I'm running Windows XP Pro with SP2, 512 RAMI just experienced one of the weirdest behaviors I've ever seen a computer exhibit. I was listening to an online radio in firefox (pandora.com, which uses a flash interface to control the playback) and installing updates through Adobe updater. I spaced out a little bit while waiting for the updates to finish installing, so I'm not sure if they finished or if it crashed partway through it. As I was listening to the music, it began to speed up and get very loud (as if it were fast-forwarding at 20-30 times the normal speed). Since I had never heard the song before, I wasn't sure if it was just part of the ending. This went on for 2-3 seconds, and when I looked up, a dreaded blue screen appeared for a split-second, and then my computer restarted. I had no time to read anything on the blue screen, and I'm not sure how far through the Adobe updater was before this happened. While it was restarting, windows ran an automatic scan on the hard drive and found a damaged file in one of my temporary folders, though I was not able to connect it with any program I've seen before (it was just a string of random characters).I need to know if this could have been caused by a program running in the background that I had no knowledge of, or maybe a glitch in one of the two programs I was using. I've never heard of anything like this happening before, and I'm hoping somebody reading this has heard of something similar ha... Read more

So, I'm not exactly sure what happened to my laptop earlier today. I was browsing the internet and all of a sudden the a bunch of weird scrambled lines came up on my screen and my first instinct was to go ahead and do a hard shut down.
Then, I tried rebooting it, and it would just beep 3 times and nothing would pop up on the screen. It would keep repeating the beeps over and over until I did another hard shut down. Now the laptop is working fine again. Booted up without issue and I'm typing from it right now. Can somebody give me an idea of what is going on to cause something like this?
Could this be a heating issue? The laptop doesn't feel overly warm to the touch, but I can't say I've checked the internal temperatures for exact info. If that that could be the culprit, let me know and I will look into it.
The laptop is a Dell 17r SE with an i5 3230 running Windows 10 home. OS is installed on a Samasung evo 850 SSD.

Ok this is just weird, I just reinstalled XP and now every time I open the control panel, and resize the window windows just goes black and restarts?

ANY other window that I resize doesnt do it, its just the control panel, I have no idea why itwould just be the control panel.... I tried to turn off automatic shutdown on system failure but it just restarts anyway.

Is there a way to check the system log to see what is causing this?

Sometimes when this happens my mouse will stop working on the X plane, it will only go up and down. Im wondering if I should just reinstall again... sigh

This has been happening on and off ever since I started with Win 10 and its always very annoying .

System just hangs, no error message, no bsod, just complete freeze and loud hum.

I cant say I can remember having issues watching youtube videos, its the streaming of live content such as filmon. Sometimes I can watch filmon for days and not have the issue and then randomly it will start again. Today I was watching hypermole playing on twitch tv (live) and it just happened. Getting tired of it.
I can also report having all my video content display as a green screen after using hyper v although that may be totally unrelated.

As far as I am aware, I'm using the latest drivers for my graphics, I always try update everything. I have attached the log files as requested.

Hi m1a1t,

Welcome to the 10forums

I'm not a specialist when it comes to freeze problems, but I do have a tip (or 2 when talking about reverting back the changes)
IObit software is known for causing problems, I would highly recommend that you remove it and revert back the changes it made when it comes to drivers.
DB3 may install corrupted or the wrong drivers what may cause problems,Malwarefighter is IMHO garbage,Advanced SystemCare may cause more harm than good
About the uninstall program I can't tell you anything, because I have no experience with it and I prefer to keep it that way.

I have a strange problem with my computer...Im very computer literate so this site is sorta last resort. I just formatted my computer...AMD Athlon 2200+ with 512 mb ram. I have an AGP 256 ATI Radeon 9550 graphics card with the latest xp drivers and all that jazz. Funny thing is I was able to run FFXI at full graphics almost and that NEVER crashed....This is the only game that gives me problems. Also if I install some of my creative labs audio drivers my computer has a BAD glitch. It jitters and flinches on any mp3/wav file I play and also flash movies but nothing else....not avi or mpeg video formats. Anyone else have these problems? Its not the mp3 or flash files themselves it jitters or hacks up the song in different places each time...I have the problem remedied for now...however can't use my Creative Labs software like EA control panel and all those cool things. Anyone with any info pleaaaaaaaaase respond.

Hello everyone!
So, I just bought and built a new computer and have been playing games and such for about a week now. For some reason during random times when I load into the game everything will freeze up for about five seconds and come back to my desktop tabbed out of the game. To make this even more strange i can still hear the audio from that game and the cursor is still skinned to the one in the game but I can not re open the game and have to task manager it off. It then goes on to say my AMD driver has stopped working and successfully recovered. I have tried to fix it on my own but I can't seem to stop the crashing at random gameplay times. Can anyone help me out?

Hiya vaikepois.

It looks like the error code is 0x08E which generally indicates graphics software problems although I`d have thought you`d have problems before you played the game if that were the case.

Try installing the most up-to-date drivers you can find for your particular GPU card (after uninstalling the old one) and see if that helps. Also make sure there isn`t a build-up of fluff and dust inside the case and particulaly around the GPU area.

Hello all,

I have this weird issue with my Windows XP. Whenever I attempt to run a full system scan (using avg, avira or any other virus scan) I find that the scan stops abruptly. It does not scan all the files, however it says that the scan has completed. After this happens, I find that the desktop icons' names are not there any more, even the ones on my taskbar, I find that my Start Menu icon has the windows logo but no "Start" word beside it. If I try to open the start menu I find that the names of the stuff there (All Programs, Control Panel, .... ) have all disappeared. If I open any window like my computer, I find a lot of "black" color in the window everywhere and also wit missing icons' names. I end up by restarting the machine and then everything goes back to normal. The thing is I can not run a virus scan ! I tried running the virus scan in Safe Mode but still I get the same problem, I really don't know what it is, I am sensing that maybe it is a memory issue or so, but I really can't tell for sure.

I am running Windows Xp SP3, my machine specs: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, E7300 @ 2.66 GHz, 3.25 GB RAM. I don't know whether this would be enough or not, but I really need some help with this issue ! Gainward Geforce 4 Ti4400
Gigabyte GA 7VRXP
256 meg Samsung PC2700 (mine will run at CAS2)
Win 2k with service pack 2.

...but mine runs perfectly and my mates locks up after about 3 minutes of playing a 3d game (ie SOF2)! The system just locks solid and you have to reset to get going again... but when you do this Win2K doesn't even do a system check.

Now the only difference in the system is the psu's (both 300watt and AMD rated) and I have a 80mm fan in the side of my case.

His cpu does run about 8c hotter but the heatsink and fan is rated to an 2100Xp and we have 1800XP's.

Have tried swapping graphics cards and memory but the system still locks after 3 minutes!! HELP??? Its very strange coz I know the software and drivers are fine. Think it may be a heat or power issue what do you guys think?

Thanks for any comments

I've never seen this before. At some random times my computer just stops, explorer crashes and restarts and everything (except open programs) don't run. I get a "Failed to initialize..." error. This is with most, or all programs on the computer. When I restart everything is fine. And one update seems to not install. My internet was down for a few days and when I turned off the computer to install that update it just wont install. I really don't know what to do. I have a:
HP Pavilion a1102n
Microsoft Windows XP, SP 3
BFG NVidia GeForce 8400 GS
BFG 450 watt power supply

I don't remember when this started, but its strange. I have no idea what to do. If anymore info is required just ask.
The computer cannot be reformatted, yet. It would have to be after the 27th of March due to a program that needs an activation key that I own, but some reason I don't have it (like it was activated by the programmer, who since died). So if thats the only solution it will have to wait.
If anymore info is needed, please ask.

I guess this is the right forum for my problem - if not, someone will probably let me know.
I went to Microsoft's update site and was downloading their recommended updates when my Avast anti virus popped up a warning screen.I tried every option the Avast screen offered - "Allow", "Deny", etc. - but the screen kept popping up. Finally, I brought up Task Manager and was going to stop Avast so the Microsoft updates could continue. I don't what, if anything, I punched in Task Manager, but the Task Manager screen suddenly started cascading uncontrollably and the computer seemed to freeze. I tried to turn the computer off, but it did not respond, so I unplugged it. When I plugged it back in, the monitor started displaying a screen of beautiful moving color, then went black. I could hear the musical sound Windows XP makes when it starts, and when I turned the computer off, I could hear the musical sound XP makes when it shuts down. Has anyone experienced this type of crash before, and, if so, what did you do to restore tlhe computer?

Hello all! Recently I have been experiencing a very annoying crash after playing either TitanFall or Star Wars: The Old Republic. I will be in-game for about 30-90 minutes and all of the sudden the game will freeze (what I mean by freeze is exactly that; the image is frozen and there is no audio whatsoever) and I am unable to alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del to get out of it, the only solution that I have found is that I must do a physical reset by pressing the power button. This crash has ONLY occurred with these two games, and has not yet occurred with any other. I am able to play games like Battlefield 4 and Grand Theft Auto IV for extensive periods of time without experiencing this issue. After playing these games for 2-3 hours my avg. CPU temperature is around 70 degrees Celsius and my GPU is also around 70 degrees Celsius. My system specs go as follows:
AMD FX-9590 8-Core Processor @ 4.7 gHZ
AMD R9-280X HIS IceQ X^2 w/ 3gb ddr5 vram

ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 Motherboard
KUHLER H2O 1250 Liquid Cooling
2TB Seagate Hybrid SSHD
750 Watt Corsair CX Series Modular Power Supply CX750M
I do not get any precursor to the crash, no fps drops or lag of any sort. I checked my computers stability history and the only events that it showed was a "Computer Shut off Incorrectly" on all occasions that this has occurr... Read more

Hello, Im having a weird and frustrating problem, wasn't sure where to post this!

Anyway, the problem started with a 3d game (cod4); my system would randomly crash after a few minutes of play - the monitor would go into power save mode and I would have to manually reboot with the power button to get back into windows, and if I didn't wait a few minutes after switching off the pc before repowering it would often crash into the same blank screen on the windows boot.

Then this started happening while in the menu of the game, not actually playing. And now it's occuring in the BIOS! At first after about 2 minutes in BIOS the pc would crash in exactly the same way as it did in cod4 (monitor goes blank, have to reboot), but now as soon as I enter BIOS it will crash (within 5 seconds). Temperature is normal btw. Before the BIOS crashes began I suspected it was power supply problems, overheating or driver related, and I reinstalled everything short of a full reformat. I also removed an X-Fi soundcard that I got recently in case it was power related but that didn't help... and now since the crash is occuring in the BIOS (i was in there to disable onboard soundcard) I have no idea what to do, I'm worried it's a virus or something, although a full system scan with Kaspersky doesn't turn anything up.

If anyone could give me a hint on what to do now I would be very happy, as I am really very frustrated and I am totally out of ideas. Even a reformat seems useless since the cr... Read more

Hi all,I have a computer with Vista Ultimate installed on it.Here's the problem:After start up, the desktop loads. This window is already visible:(note, screenshot taken in safe mode where it also appears)The cursor is a loading cursor, when this return to a normal cursor the computer crashes. It's not a BSOD, it's a load of lines across the screen just before the computer then restarts itself. I am able to boot into safe mode just fine. Below is the events leading up to this behaviour. Here's the story:Yesterday I had a problem with a virus that AVG flagged as Agent_R.AOB. AVG wouldn't remove it, it wouldn't find the related file. I messed around with that for ages, finally Avast managed to remove it in safe mode, or at least it removed something. I also ran Malwarebytes which fixed found and fixed some other infections. After that the computer was rebooted and worked fine for several hours. This morning when it was booted it crashed as described above, and has continued to do so. Boo.Tried so far:Booting into safe mode - this works fine. I'm in safe mode now. Removing the BIOS battery, sometimes static charge (or something) builds up an the comp refuses to boot until I've taken the BIOS battery out and fondled it. That usually fixes the issue. Not only did this not fix the problem, it caused the computer to fail to boot even the bios until I also removed the graphics card and replaced it in it's socket.Updating and running AVGUpdating and ... Hello everyone,

I've been having this this problem for some time and recently it has began to occur much more frequently. What will happen is that my computer will completely freeze. All input into the computer will become unresponsive. The mouse will freeze and not move, the clock will stop, and the computer will not respond when I press the power button. The only way to turn the system off is to hold down the power button.

I have already checked:

The power supply (replaced)
Memory (tested)
System drivers (updated)
Usb hub (removed)

I know this is a vague problem, but does anyone have any other ideas of what could be going on here? This used to happen maybe once a month or so, now it seems to happen everyday. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks allot

A:Strange computer crash

I forgot to mention the most common times this will happen are when I'm using Internet Explorer or when I'm trying to get out of my screen saver. But it has happened other times as well.

I'm suffering from a strange bsod which occurs shortly after windows has loaded and the startup programs are loading on the start screen.

The strange thing is everything boots/pc works fine after I do a hard restart through the power supply. Without a hard restart the pc repeats it's cycle of bsods after each crash and restart.

I have included the dump files below, bluescreen view tells me it's caused by ntoskrnl.exe which is part of windows. I have tested the memory with memtest and get no errors though I'm going to test longer with more passes.

I've done a fresh install twice but get the same problem. I've been told I should install windows 7 (64) without having my secondary drives installed as this can cause a conflict initially.

Any help or a push in the right direction on how to solve this problem would be most appreciated.

My internet explorer was not starting anymore, each time i start it, it close and restart. Therefore, i run multiple Anti Spyware tools that found nothing.
I therefore uninstalled Internet explorer and installed Firefox.

Looking at the memory usage, my PC is using 1.4Gb (usually it was more around less than a Gb). I also saw some strange process LCW.exe and LCX.exe. So i stopped them and delete the corresponding exe files. Now, i can't see those process anymore, but, i'm really not sure on what has been cleaned out or not.

I then discovered this forum, this is the reason why i'm posting my files.
I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64 bits. GMER is not working on my PC.

Hi, to all of you in the community !
My story is another one of these "unexpected shutdown help-me" issues.
I've been browsing the web pretty extensively in the hope of fixing things myself but couldn't quite find anyone posting the same problem as mine so I decided to look for help.
Let me first tell you about the problem. Then, you'll find my config + an EVEREST report.

The computer shuts down without any warnings or messages. Nothing, everything goes black and silent all of a sudden. I read that happens to a lot of people. Now, the originality of my situation is that the computer will shut down performing certain tasks and it will work perfectly doing others.

The computer WILL WORK normally when :
- using MS Office 2003
- using the internet (Firefox)
- watching/listening to video/audio content on the internet (Firefox)
- downloading with bittorrent (uTorrent)
- watching videos, any formats (Media Player Classic)
- listening to music (WinAmp)
- burning DVDs/ISO images (UltraISO)
- anti-virus (AVG) and anti-spyware (AVG) work and update normally

The computer now ALWAYS SHUTS DOWN when :
- playing games (mostly i've played Civ4 and TTDX)
- converting audio formats (whether with Mediamonkey or Mediasource 5)
- performing any kind of system scan like Memtest or Spybot

I've been reading about shutdowns and it always seems to come down to a few scenarii :
- dust. but i've cleaned the inside of my case twice this week with no avail.

English ain't my mother language so please excuse any errors...

My machine crashed very often too. I checked the HARDWARE (RAM, etc.), SOFTWARE, etc. but it changed nothing.

After a long time I found the reason for these shutdowns: It's uTorrent and the tcpip.sys / tcpip.txt. I corrected the tcp to the normal windows settings because I had modified it to boost my downloads. But whenever I use uTorrent the shutdowns come again from to to time.

I would suggest that you try BitComet or any other torrent client. And that you delete all drivers which aren't accepted by Windows.

From time to time whenever I use uTorrent again my machine crashes. However some trackers 're blocking BitComet, etc. so I've to live with it. But I know why now. I haven't found any setting for uTorrent to stop this prob yet???

Hi guys,
i have a big and misterious issue here. I got a new laptop, an LG A550, with an i5 and Geforce 640M two weeks ago.
things were running ok until yesterday, i was playing online and suddenly the flash game crashed. i thought it was a flash player problem, so i updated it, and problems began:

- not only stills with the game not loading, but also i had most web pages not loading properly.
they takes several minutes to load and when it happens it shows an text only creepy version of it.
- that happens to facebook, netvibes, tumblr and kongragate (three that i use daily), but google, yahoo, youtube and this forum works ok...
- also noticed that bug makes me not be able to download plugin updates nor download some new softwares..

I got mad and tried system restore.
All attempts failed.
Finally i tried to restore the whole system to factory conditions, to get rid of ALL softwares i had installed in this two weeks. when completed, guess what... the issue CONTINUES!
what should i do now?
could be a problem with the files at the D partition?
a hardware problem?
or some rare hard time register bug?
please help me on that!!!

Since you were online, the first thing that strikes me is a virus. I hope you have a virus program and a firewall on it. That is a must. A good free one is Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows == You might also scan for Malware. This a free program also Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download Let us know how it goes.

Im running Windows XP home on a HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop which was bought in Nov 2006, recently it has developed a problem, everytime i use the Alt+Tab to switch between active windows the system crahses and all that is possibe to do it use the keyboard to open the start menu & move the mouse around. My solution to this is to press the power button which hibernates the system, i then restart the system and press F8 on boot to delete the hibernatons file and start windows as if it had been shutdown.

A problem similar to this happens when i use the quick launch buttons on the top of the laptop which open quick play, dvd player, and the skip back, play/pause, skip forwards, stop, mute and volume buttons. This causes the same problems but upon a hibernation reboot the system will be unlocked.

Thanks for any help that any one can give in advance.

I have WIN 7 pro machine only a couple of months old. All uptodate.

In the last day I visited a new site to me http://forums.sbo.sailboatowners.com/index.php a couple of times. I used Firefox and twice the site crashed my computer. No other site or process has done this.

The crash is not a BSOD but my screen blanks to a light colour and wobbles/flickers with instability.

The only way back is a hard restart which seems to restore everything to normal.

The obvious workaround is "don't visit this site" but it has interesting stuff (to me) and, more importantly, I'm trying to work out if there is something wrong with my PC which is under warranty

Hi guys,

My ASUS laptop has developed some strange problems recently. First, it wouldn't shut down - the "Shutdown" button had no effect, then IE gets into a loop where it says it has to close and then says it's searching for a solution (ad infinitum), also, AVG "Could not finish automatic state repair" and cannot update because of a "General error". Also, does anyone know how to get rid of the annoying feature whereby the single and double quotation marks don't appear until you press the subsequent key?

Thanks in advance!

basically i'll be using my laptop and after about 20-30 mins it'll freeze, ill still have control of the mouse, but everything in the background stops responding

there are a few reasons this might be happening
-i had a virus a few days ago that i cant completely get off my computer bc its keeps freezing mid scan
-it's overheating, although i dont think it is because i ran a scan while my laptop was in the fridge, silly i know but it still froze even though though the laptop itself was cool as a cucumber
-may be some other hardware issue since its happened before the virus, but its never been this bad

the virus was called 'windows recovery' and after running an avg and spybot scan to remove the malicious components i followed online instructions to remove files manually (however there were some files in both the registry and explorer that i could not find, i assume this is due to the scan before hand)

i know i still have some parts of the virus affecting me for a few reasons, one is that my laptop background is black and i cant change it, the other is that two infected files show up in a malwarebytes scan in the mozilla folder (im on chrome now) but the scan usually freezes about 58,000 files into the scan

so i would like some help, how do i remove the remnants of the virus if my laptop keeps freezing?

Hi guys,

First post here at these forums, but I've been reading for some time. I was hoping I could get some advice on a recent crash I've been getting on my computer. So, I built this system in October and was initially having some hypertransport flood sync errors for a couple of weeks. I adjusted voltages and fiddled with a couple of settings, and that seems to have stopped for the time being. As to what was causing those problems initially, your guess is as good as mine.

However, starting 2 days ago, I've been getting another strange crash where whatever is happening on my screen will go blank, the monitor goes into standby, and whatever sound was playing on my computer will loop for a bit followed by a buzzing noise and then continually buzz indefinitely. The fans and CPU seem to still be running and my video card's fan is still functional. I usually have to do a hard reset in order to fix this. And sometimes, during the reset the computer will not turn on (the monitor remains in standby while I hear the system turning on and the fans whirling).

This happens more frequently during games such as Starcraft 2 and Star Wars The Old Republic than when I'm idling or doing low-demand tasks. I usually do not get a BSOD error from this crash either, except for one time. I've attached the files below, and you'll note 2-3 other BSOD due to rivatuner drivers, which I think you can ignore since I was trying to install that to check out my video card fans, but there seemed to be a... Hi all,

Ive recently had a BSOD-like crash whilst playing a game (Battlefield Bad Company 2), the monitor simply goes black and then flashes up as recieving "no signal". I then had to restart by holding down the power button and on reboot, chkdsk was recommended.

I started chkdsk but then half way through the computer did the same thing again, and crashed. Eventually after trying many times, I skipped chkdsk and then tried system restore which also crashed several times during. However, the system did somehow restore itself and I thought the issue was gone - however, just to check things I tried running windows memory diagnostic tool and it simply will not complete without doing the same thing again, and crashing half way through.

The computer seems useable, It only seems to crash during a game which leads me to think it could be display related but I have updated all my drivers, ran disk defrag, registry cleaner, virus & malware scanners galore and all turn up nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
