Slow Windows 7(iBuypower Disc)

Q: Slow Windows 7(iBuypower Disc)

Back in December 2009 I bought a computer from iBuypower. I have just recently noticed how slow the install is because I got a new copy of Windows 7 for my 13inch MacBook Pro(2.66 Core2, 4GB RAM) and it seems to run games faster and be more stable. Could it just be a early version of 7 that is causing the problem? or is it hardware?

iBuyPower Specs:
Core i7 OCed 3.2GHz
12GB RAM at 1600Mhz
2x1TB RAID 0 HDD
ASUS P6T SE

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there,

I have a Lenovo laptop here that is having quite a few problems. Firstly it was just a problem in Windows where I would click to open something, it would flash up and then close immediately. I thought this may be a HDD error so I tried to boot on to the Windows disc to do a CHKDSK. I powered on the laptop, pressed a key to boot from the CD and Windows started loading files. After loading files it showed the Windows Vista "Aurora" background and then the laptop just crashed and restarted. Now it just gets to BIOS and after a long time it does the POST and then reboots. I thought it may have been the RAM also so I have changed out this. Any suggestions? I have an inkling that it may be the motherboard.

TIA

*OCSE

A:Slow BIOS POST and not booting onto a disc or Windows

so it will not even let you do anything with the BIOS?
it sounds as if it is the flash memmory (part of the motherboard) if it is it would most likely be cheaper to replace the MB
you could try reinstalling the BIOS it is a bit of a long shot but it might work, you would have to use a floppy disk for this (usb one should work).

hope this helps

Hello,

I have a problem with my computer, It became very slow lately. The main symptom is that the disc usage is always at 100% (with in reality only 10 Mo/s). I have already tried many things that were unsuccessful :

- Clean disk and registry
- run Malware Byte (Minor things were found)
- desactivate superfetch; windows search and defrag
- remove windows tips& notifications
- disable MSI (see No superfetch No windows search No Defrag still 100% disk usage - Windows 10 Forums)
- Change some parameters on google Chrome/Skype (see : How to fix 100 disk usage in Windows 10 - Microsoft Community)
- change the page file settings ( see here : Disk usage always at 100% [Solved] - windows 10 - Windows 10)

I still have the same problem . Any other suggestions ?

I have to say that I am not a pro, so I followed most of the things I cited above without really understanding what I was exactly doing... If you think that I might not have done something properly, you can ask me to repeat it.

Thanks a lot in advance for help !

Hi,

Uninstall Avast then use the removal tool. Set Windows Firewall and Windows Defender to Automatic and start them too, using services.msc.

Update Realtek HD Audio codec driver from their website:

RTKVHD64 RTKVHD64.sys Fri Mar 29 09:40:06 2013 (515599B6)

Update motherboard bios to newest version.

Likely that the memory is not configured well, mismatched, or defective.

Please attach a screenshot of CPU-Z first tab, one of memory tab and one each for each stick of RAM of SPD tab - along with newest crash dumps - if necessary after completing the above. (Or perhaps Avast removal is the trick instead.)

Hey all, new to the forums and in pretty serious need of some help. I bought an IBUYPOWER prebuilt gaming rig last... April I think, and its been working great for me. Recently however ( the last month or so), the sound keeps going out. It went out for about a week before randomly coming back (nothing I did), and now its been gone for about 2-3 weeks. The sound icon down by the clock shows a red x and says that no speakers are plugged in. I've tried a bunch of things to try and get my audio back on, but no luck. I'm not sure what I would need to provide here for anybody to help me, or what I SHOULDNT post for security reasons, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some important notes
*I have Windows 7
*I have two jacks for my speakers, one in the back where you would typically expect to find one, but also an additional one in the front panel. Neither one apparently works, leading me to believe its a driver issue.
*Gosh idk what else to put down! any help would be greatly appreciated, I used to think I was capable with computers but this seems to be beyond me

Does anyone out there know if the iBuypower computers or other computer out there on like Tigerdirect or the ZT brands from Costo are any good? I've never heard of them but keep seeing them popping up everywhere....

I've only ever had a Dell, HP or Gateway machine.

A:iBuypower and other non-namebrand computers

They're most often made from quite much better quality parts than Dell, etc as they don't get exclusively extra cheap motherboards and other parts like the big brand companies. They do sometimes use lower quality power supplies though, quite a feat considering what the factory built boxes have. I wouldn't recommend getting any of them without modifying it yourself and selecting a quality power supply for it, or replacing it yourself to save a few dozen dollars, as well as getting a longer warranty for the PSU.

Hey!
What seems to be wrong us that the UEFI can't seem to detect the harddrives when determining boot order? That's my best guess. I really have no idea. If I load Bootable media, such as my installation drive, it detects it just fine and all my components are fine and I'm able to format and install as I please.
However, I'm unable to access the UEFI configuration, as the pc just stops.
Twice in the past few days it's been able to work itself out and boot as normal, so I know it's not a harddrive issue, but it's extremely rare.
I formatted and installed a fresh windows on a secondary drive to see if that would help to both avail.

On a 4-year old laptop running Windows 7, I've been burning, in Windows Explorer, Verbatim brand DVD-DL discs rated at 8x, on an external USB Panasonic UJ-220 blu-ray burner that can burn DVD-DL at 2.4x, at 2.4x (the only burn speed choice that Windows Explorer offers), with no problem.

Now I'm trying to do the same, with the same external USB burner and with discs from the same cake, on a 1-year old desktop, also running Windows 7. Both the laptop and the desktop are running 64-bit Windows 7.

On the desktop, I get this error:

=========================================
There was a problem burning this disc

The write speed for the recordable disc is either too fast or too slow for your CD or DVD burner. Insert a recordable disc that has a different write speed, adn then try again.
=========================================

Then it offers choices to try with a different disc, save the temp files for later, etc.

I've tried with 3 discs, and got the same error with all of them.

The UJ-220 has two USB plugs; one for data & power, and one for just additional power. I thought maybe the burner wasn't getting enough power from the cable that's just for power. So I plugged that cable into the laptop, leaving the data cable in the desktop. Same problem.

Burning a disc rated at 8x at 2.4x, in a burner rated at 2.4x, should be no problem, but even if it was, why does it work fine with the laptop?

A:Error burning DVD with Windows Explorer: "disc to fast or too slow"

Hi GregL,

Normally I would say that is because of media incompatibility with the burner (some brands just don't get on with each other), but reading through your post this can't be the problem as you're using the same discs and burner on both machines. The only thing I can think of at the moment is that the drive is being picked up by your laptop as USB 2.0 but only USB 1.1 by your desktop.

I have an HP Envy i7 laptop which came with a 1TB hard drive.
As there was space to add a second drive I added a 500GB drive.
In addition I added a 320GB drive in the DVD slot (using a dvd/disc converter cartridge).

I have recently noticed that disc access in Explorer has become really slow (seems to think about it for 10 - 15 secs sometimes) and loading programmes seems to take longer too.

Could this be as a result of adding the extra discs?
Is there any way to resolve this and get back to normal without removing the discs?

A:Disc access very slow

Hi, have you checked the SMART parameters of your disks? (E.g. Passmark offers freeware.. plenty of others).

Run chkdsk on each disk from an elevated command prompt
(Windows key + X, click Command Prompt (Admin).

If you want to specifically check the speed of access to each disk, please see:
Hard Drive Benchmark - How to Run a Hard Drive Speed Test

Have you checked your task manager for excessive CPU/RAM/Disk use?

As you don't want to remove the disks, you could try (but it's not 100% equivalent to removing them) sthg like this:
http://www.windows8core.com/how-to-d...n-windows-8rt/

(Ok it's Win 8 but should be very similar and you can research further).

Presumably you are sure your system is clean of viruses.

Hi, I'm running Windows 7 premium 64bit.
I generally use Ashampoo burning software 7 to burn files to discs etc and it works fine........however it wont burn to RAM discs.
I tried using the Windows built in burning operation to drag and drop 2 gb of files to a DVDRAM disc......it started OK, but after 40 minutes I pressed cancel.
I burned the same files to a normal DVD and it was done in a couple of minutes.
The discs are made by Panasonic and should be just drag and drop.
My DVD drive is an Asus sata drive. I checked on the Asus web site and the last driver build was a few years old, so I didn't try it.
Anyone else having problems with DVDRAM discs?
Is there other software I could be using?

Having at last received a replacement PSU, I've finally put all the bits together, no problems.

My first slipstream disc was not appreciated. but thankfully I had made a backup, so XP installed, no problems.

The issue now is the world's longest boot time. The POST screen comes up and does the memory check. There is then a delay of over one minute until the IDE HDD and optical drive are detected. Then a PCI devices screen appears. This is on view for about another minute or so. The system will not boot to Windows unless I have the XP disc in the DVD drive - I just get a 'Disc Error' message. I have changed the BIOS setting between HDD and optical drives for booting - makes no difference. HDD shows up on channel 4 as Master and the DVD on channel 4 as slave. Mobo only supports 2 IDE devices. Eventually, the 'press a key to boot from CD' message appears - I can ignore this and Windows then loads up - and very quickly as well.

I have checked all cabling, cleared CMOS, tweaked the BIOS every possible way - all to no avail.

I have just recently purchased a new computer. It has a 160gb hard drive, 512 DDR SDRAM memory with a 3200 processor that runs at 2.933Ghz. My internet connection is a cable connection. The problems that I am having is that is is running extremly slow and I am running out of disc space. I have no idea how I could be using up 160 gb of my hard drive. The speed of the new computer is comparable to that of the old one which has a 600 processor and 256 SDRAM. I am including my hi-jack log below and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it a completely new one with no files in it?
Becouse then you will have to do a full format on it ( DO NOT use fast format becouse that wont help you)

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. Working on a spiffy e-machine with Windows Vista Home Basic that runs pretty well.
After reading multiple posts where the advice usually begins with suggesting a 'boot disc' or a 'recovery disc', I guess what I'm looking to find out is:
1) what is the difference between a boot disc and a recovery disc?
2) How do I go about making one on this machine (or if I even can)? << I did read through Grinler's tutorials regarding System Restore points and all that seems to in good order. But I guess I'm not sure on the relationship between that and my post (or if there even is one).
3) a best practice regarding these type of discs
I don't have any pressing issues at this time, but I also don't want to wait until I do.
Everything I've learned here at BC has been so great & helpful, I would like to stay on that path, so any links/apps/ideas/suggestions and/or insights would be greatly appreciated.

A:Boot Disc, Recovery Disc, Frisbee Disc

1) what is the difference between a boot disc and a recovery disc?Boot disk vs recovery disk. Let me see if I can phrase that in a way that makes some sense.A recovery disc is a generic term for the disk or media containing a backup of the original factory condition or a specified condition of a computer as configured by the original equipment manufacturer or an end-user. OEM supplied recovery media is sometimes shipped with some computers to allow the user to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system and pre-loaded software as it was when it was shipped. This is not as common a practice today as it was in the past. I won't confuse the issue, but google recovery partition for more information.A boot disk is a removable data storage medium, i.e. DVD or flash drive from which a computer can load and run 'boot' an operating system or utility program. The computer must have an installed program or application which will load and execute a program or application from the boot disk. This will enable you to boot an otherwise unusable machine to be able to troubleshoot the OS or non-working application as necessary.Hope that gives you a better idea of the difference. As to how to create a boot disk? I will let more knowledgeable staff or members assist you.

Hi all, first time poster so please be gentle!

Yesterday, I replaced an ailing DVD writer, nothing complicated, a straight SATA swap. When I restarted, I was met with A DISK READ ERROR OCCURRED. PRESS CTRL ALT DEL TO RESTART. I did, and the machine booted successfully, but ever since my HD read/write times have been woeful. Using HDTune to benchbark write speed, I get around 4.5mb/s - compared to over ten times that on my other three hard drives (two internal and one external connected via USB). The two internal drives which are working normally are PATA, as opposed to the snail-pacer which is SATA.

In case the drive is about to fail, I'm currently backing up its data to one of the fully working drives so I can't try anything yet, but I was wondering if anyone else had dealt with a similar scenario and had any ideas how to go about fixing it?

Many thanks in advance!

My Dell Inspirion is just running super sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...
I have done memtest86, RAM is fine. All temps are good. I replaced the HDD...but I fear that some files may have been corrupted or lost in the process of copying my old HDD to the new one.

The windows 7 repair disc says it cannot fix the problem. I tried running sfc in command prompt, but it tells me that I have to log in as administrator from the local machine, WHICH I AM.

I am at my wits' end. I mean it takes almost a minute at times to open an email, or to open a new window... sometimes it's fine, but usually it's super slow.

Maybe I should just wipe the HDD and reload windows?

Help???

A:Super slow PC...can't access sfc...repair disc not working...

What exactly is the message that the repair discs give? How old is the computer?
You could just reformat the drive now, but obviously you would lose your data. I would wait to reformat until you can tell that it is the only option left. Or, I guess, if you don't want to deal with it at all, then just reformat now.

Hey

Problem 1
having an issue since some time now

the transfer of files from one hard disk to another has become extremely slow

2 mins for a 200 mb file

the transfer is both ways. One HDD is PATA, the other SATA

Please help

Drive 1: SATA: 446GB, Free - 7GB (But the problem is persisting since the time there was much more space left)
Drive 2: PATA: 465GB, Free - 132GB

I have just reinstalled windows but the problems are still there

Problem 2

The drive when attached directly to the motherboard and now attached to the USB does not read a blank disc, hence i cannot burn it.

It is able to read a disc which already has data on it.

It is a Reader cum Writer with up to date drivers but can only read and not write

Help

Thanks

Title says, I have a Toshiba Satellite and when I launch recovery options while starting it up it goes extremely slow.
If I launch it with a repair disc it still goes extremely slow.
ATM, I've put the repair disc and now im just waiting to see what happens. I'm timing it and will let you guys know how long it takes but if anyones had this problem before, please let me know.

A:Toshiba Satellite running extremely slow even with repair disc in.

You most likely don't need the Repair CD if you're PC is running slow, and it's presence wouldn't make any difference anyway.

Work through these steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware which should improve performance.

If not here are additional Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7
