Preferred Solution: Mute button light is not turning off.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The light on this button has always been dark when volume was on, and orange during mute.  This condition seems to have started with recent, unknown update.   Don't know if it is a keyboard issue or sound driver issue.  Can't find drivers for either on HP drive download site.

Ok, so I also made a video explaining my problem and doing some tests on it.  I've also attached a profile of all my computer's specs in the attached PDF form.  You can view the video at this link:https://goo.gl/photos/VrvjcAJy5beRt4B38For some reason, all of a sudden out of the blue, the red LED light of my Microphone mute button will not turn off.  No matter how much I press it, it doesn't go away.  It's really annoying.  In addition the button doesn't work.  I'm fine with the button not working as I've trained myself to not rely on those things anyways.  I really just want the light to go away.  It's very distracting.  The light stays on even in BIOS and the button is not doing anything. Thanks

How's it going? I have a problem that's been driving me crazy. I'm new here so forgive me and feel free to direct me to any thread if it's been posted already.

So I have a HP DV6-2162NR laptop and the mute button (touch) is stuck in the mute position (see picture).

The button works completely fine, as in it will mute and unmute on command but the button does not change color from orange to white.

I couldn't do a system restore because there wasn't one saved. I tried disabling the sound card but that didn't work.

I'll restart it and it turns white. But as soon as Windows 7 loads, it turns orange and stays orange.

Any ideas? I'm trying to do this without resorting to a format. Thanks..

When we press "mute" button, the led light on the button glows(orange/red light). When we switch to normal audio mode, or simply unmute, ideally the light should get off. Unfortunately, in my case, the orage/red light is still glowing even in normal (unmute) mode. I've checked all my audio/realtek controller drivers, they are updated. What must be the reason?

Hello, I recently noticed that the mute light (located on F5) had stopped turning on when I pressed it. Mute works, but the light doesn't come on. I understand, from previous posts, that this can be because of problems with the Audio Driver. However, I recently had to uninstall the default Audio Driver because of issues with this (also well known with HP products.) Is there anyway of getting the mute light back, without having to resort to the old Audio Driver?  Thanks.

The Mute Button Light on my Thinkpad X1 Carbon (3rd Gen) Stays On all the time. I can mute or unmute audio fine, but the light stays on. Small issue I know, but I'd like to be able to turn it off. It happened before, and someone pointed to a note somewhere that specified a keystroke combination to turn it off, but I can't remember the keystroke. Note: It wasn't a driver issue or any of the other solutions people post regarding this issue, just a simple keystroke that's laid out ... somewhere ... I can't find it in the user guide. Any ideas? Dear Support! I upgraded my probook from win 8.1 to win 10 home and i have a few problems in relation with the audio. 1. In win 8.1 the audio driver has a dts+ software (if i remember good for the name) which can optimize the sound with effects and eq etc. The notebook sounds good with this but in windows 10 i can get this and the quality of the sound is much worse. In addition in the device manager on win 8.1 the audio card names as IDT High Definiton audio but in win 10 it is "High Definition Audio Device". I don't know whethet that matters. (also has an amd high definition audio device, but if i know good its the hdmi audio) So I want to ask how can i get this to win10. 2. The audio mute button in win 10 doesnt change color -the wifi button does it- from white to orange if there is a change. The funcionality is working so it mutes the sound. So i would like to get some solutions about that, i tried to download drivers from hp support but i didnt see anything for this. Thank you for your answers, Akos ConfigHP Probook 455 G1 with AMD A10-5750M APU

Hi, recently I bought a new keyboard with multimedia keys
Model : Microsoft Wireless keyboard 1000
All the keys are working fine, I also installed the latest drivers and Intellitype Pro to the correct OS i'm using.
However, when I press the mute/unmute button, the volume bar shows up, but does not actually mute. It seems like it flashed the mute symbol for half a second but it still just stay unmute. I tried using the default Microsoft sound driver and the latest Realtek sound driver but still no luck.
I also tried turning HID services on and off but still the same
BUT, I remember the mute button WORKING until a few days ago.

I don't know if it is due to the Windows Update, or something to do with my motherboard driver or something else. The roll back driver option is greyed out in Device Manager so I don't assume that is the problem..

I'm currently using:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000
YAMAHA speakers YST-M15 (really old model)
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.5859
ASUS M3A78-EM Motherboard

I'm really confused because if all the multimedia keys are working then it should not be a driver problem. If the volume up/down is working then it should not be speaker problem. It is ONLY the mute button that is not working.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi,

My Dell Studio has just crashed and wont restart. The mute and volume up buttons are flashing and the volume down button is solidly lit. I could not find the diagnostic code when searching the internet. I could find pretty much every other diagnostic code apart from this one.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks,

A:Dell Studio 1535 wont start. Blinking mute and volume up button, solid volume down button.

Hi Andy,
Welcome to Dell community!
As you have correctly pointed out, the diagnostic code that you have mentioned is not among the codes available to isolate the failure for a Studio 1535 laptop. The closest code is: blinking Mute LED and Volume up LED, and an off Volume down LED which is for USB controller initialization failure. Disconnect any external devices connected and try powering on the computer.
Reseating the memory modules too can help us. Please refer the following link for the Studio 1535 service manual for instructions: http://bit.ly/10PrLgH
If issue persists, the laptop’s motherboard has to be replaced. Refer the following link to check the computer’s warranty status: http://dell.to/10pMa86
If the computer has active warranty, please send me the service tag and registered owner’s name on the computer in a Private Message. To send me a Private Message, click my User name, and then click Start Conversation.
If the warranty on the computer has expired, you may contact our expired warranty services to purchase/replace the compatible parts. Please refer the following link that has contact details for our Expired Warranty Services: http://dell.to/14FoBtb
