FX NVIDIA 5200 Video Card

Q: FX NVIDIA 5200 Video Card

Why can't I find where my 3d and open gl settings are? I see everything else, but I can see these. According to the book, they should be there. I've downloaded the newest drivers from nvidia. This is a new card to a newly built pc. 256 mb.

Preferred Solution: FX NVIDIA 5200 Video Card

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: FX NVIDIA 5200 Video Card

They should be in Display Properties in Control Panel. Open up Display, then click on Settings, then click on the Advanced Button. Then you should see your settings. If they are not there its becuase the driver is not correctly installed or the AGP Acceleration is turned Off on that Advanced page.

I have an old Dell Dimension 8300 PC with a bad video card (128MB DDR NVidia GeForce FX 5200). I need to replace the video card but because this PC is in our spare room for guests to use, I do not want to spend much to replace it. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive comparable card?

A:Bad Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 card

Well the first thing I need to know is what bus the card is operating on. Most 5200's by dell were AGP, and I know they made the 5200 in PCI but I am not sure.

You have several ways to tell what bus the card uses.

1. You can use system info/everest or something similar to see.
2. You can just physically take the card out and look. Google AGP and PCI. They don't look similar so you should be able to tell.

Now after taking the card out, it may be worth it to look at the back of the unit. If you see another VGA port, that will be the onboard. I haven't worked with these generation dells in a long time so I do not remember off the top of my head. If that is present, simply plug the monitor in and see what happens. You should have video automatically, if so, since this is a spare machine it should work ok.

If you do not have another VGA port after you take out the card, you will need to buy a replacement.

Both of the formats are long dead, so the prices are pretty cheap. You can get replacements for the 5200 in AGP or PCI

You can also shop around for used/cheaper solutions if you so desire. You are not limited to the 5200 specifically, anything from that generation ATI 9xxx series should work fine.

I just built a new machine with the help of a friend, and I'm having a big problem with my video. Whenever I play mpegs the picture is completely messed up (it has a weird bright tint and all the colors are messed up). Mov files seem to be okay though. When I playI've uninstalled and reinstalled my video card drivers (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200) at least 5 times and it hasn't fixed anything. I'm out of ideas on how to fix this. Any thoughts?

A:Video all messed up (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200)

Windows Media Video files also do not play. I cannot verify that any types of video other than movs work properly. They all have this off-color fuzzy tint to them.

Does this card support dual monitors? I found someone selling it. He says it has nView, Power DVD, TV-out, D-sub, DVI but ive seen somewhere on the internet that some cards may have the 2 ports, but dont support dual monitors. Is this the case for this card?

A:NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 - Questions about this card

If the card has two outputs then it should support two monitors, haven't seen any cards with two outputs that didn't.

Well basically my hard drive broke so I bought a new one, had to obviously reinstall windows etc, and everything was fine. I installed the drivers from the disc (as I lost them) and everything was okay until I turned my PC on one day and it just beeped loads, I tried lots of different things to see what it was and I changed my graphics card and now it works, and whenever I have my GeForce FX 5200, my computer won't turn on, it's as if there is no graphics card installed.
I had this problem when I first got it, but I moved it about and it worked - I just assumed I didn't fit it in properly, but I know this time its a problem with the card. Any suggestions?

A:nVIDIA GeForce 5200 FX card not working

Are you sure you did not physically damage the card (the connecting portion) when you last took it out or fitted it in? When you "moved it about", you DID turn off the computer first right? Do you know what the usual operating temperature of your card is? 'Cuz it could be fried for all I can think of.

I have recently been having problems with my computer. For example, when I view pictures with some black in them, in the black part of the area there are lots of red dots , but only in the black parts. I think its not just Black but any dark colours. I also get some different coloured dots on some websites that I visit (Eg. Ebay, This site)
I also get EXTREMELY annoying colour clashes when I play San Andreas, and the same red dots all over the roads and characters in the game. It was never like this before. The colour clash is alot like the one in Vice City, but this one doesnt seem to have a patch to it. Im not sure whether I need to update the drivers again but as far as i know they are up to date (from Nvidia.com) My graphics card is NviDia Geforce 5200

The screenshot gives an idea of what the problem is like on this site as I see it now.

It could be overheating, or it even could be monitor. Check the fan on the video if there is one and make sure the computer is free of dust.

Disabling the video card is a very bad idea.

Should I upgrade the power supply?

Thanks in advance.

A:Black and White 2 freezing with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 card

quite possibly the lack of power in your comp. make sure you have the most up to date drivers for the vid card and the most up to date direct x. a neat little tool that you can use for analysis is the direct x diagnostic tool. go to start, run, and type in "dxdiag". (no quotes) this'll tell you the main things that you need to know about your comp. Feel free to post it here in the thread.

i have a geforce fx 5200 8x agp 128 mb graphic card. it worked fine for me for about an year. but now suddenly only 64 mb of video ram is detected by my system. i checked the 'dxdiag' dialogue box and it also shows only 64 mb of video ram. reinstalling the drivers, the card itself and tweaking different bios settings has not worked for me. what to do? how can this happen? can a part of video card memory just die like this? if not, then what can i do to restore the 'hidden' 64 mb of it? any answers, suggestions etc. will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

A:GeForce Nvidia fx 5200 128mb graphics card, only 64 mb is detected?

I haven't looked up the specs on your card, but usually they are split in two ie 64 + 64 = 128Meg . Even though it's only one card.
I know my 512Meg Vid card does this. It reports two cards in Device Manager as 256M (even though it's only one card)

I don't know all the ins and outs, but I suppose it's faster doing it this way

Regret if this sounds like an entry-level problem: I've been trying to install a PNY GeForce 5200 graphics card (PCI format) for my son's video game use on my XP system and keep getting a black screen after the Microsoft start-up visuals appear once I reboot. I've double-checked that the card is installed securely in the PCI slot, and connected the monitor to correctly to the VGA plug on the new card, per the instructions, but after rebooting, it always returns to a black screen after the Microsoft graphics intro.

Last night I reattached the monitor to the normal VGA connection and checked out the internet for any info on troubleshooting this installation process, and saw a few remarks from users who had bought the GeForce 5200 on Amazon that the instructions were incomplete and that the existing graphics card has to be disabled or uninstalled before the new card can be properly installed (stands to reason, but the PNY instructions don't provide any directions for the beginner).

If anyone has any experience in installing this type of card sucessfully on their XP system and can offer any simple steps to disable/uninstall the current graphics card, it would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, IMsci

Whatever drivers i install for my graphics card i.e. latest drivers, older drivers (they are the right ones) or drivers of lower spec cards my display seems to dismantle. My display and screen will look crisp and will load up faster than usual with the drivers installed. But after about 4 or 5 times after restarting my pc or turning it off my display seems to go down to 4 bit and the screen size automatically changes to 800x600 when the original settings are at 32 bit and 1280x1024. I can only fix this problem if i uninstall the drivers and then the display is OK apart from the fact that i cannot change any of the advanced display properties e.g. screen refresh rate. Also i cannot play some games as they require a fully working graphics card. Also it does restrict me to watching my movies in good quality. There is no problem with the monitor because i have installed/uninstalled the drivers and still i have the same problem with each monitor. This is a very weird problem and i think it could be down to faulty graphics card or the heat of the case or system. The Case temp is about 52 and SYS temp is about 40 but this doest seem to high. Thanx for any help anybody gives me. P.S. i will now be getting a Nvidia 64 mb geforce 4 card as im getting it for free. You think that will display my movies in good quality?(these movies are dvd quality movies or actual dvd's. Thanx

A:Hi i hav a sparkle Nvidia 5200 128mb graphics card and have a drivers problem.

Did you remove the other drivers when you installed the newer/older ones? Try removing them and restarting. To remove them, right click on My Computer->Properties->Hardware->Device Manager and look for your video card entries. Right click on them and choose Remove. Restart and it should ask for the drivers. Install the newer ones if you can.

I am, by no means, a technical person. I have a 6 month old Toshiba Satellite P25-S526 laptop which I use in my teaching. I do a lot of PowerPoint and often capture video clips to insert into the PP presentations.
I have two problems. First one - when I switch to dual monitor mode to be able to use a projector I have no problem until I come to a slide with a video. At this point the video signal does not make it to the projector. The audio is fine. In order for the video to show on the projector I have to toggle to the auxillary monitor (projector) only. The toggling process often kicks me out of slide show mode and makes me look real dumb (actually not too hard a task). When I toggle to the auxillary monitor my laptop screen goes black and I have to rely on controlling the presentation by watching it on the projected image. Not always ideal when teaching.

Second problem. I have a ADS Tech video capture device and use their CapWiz software. The software has a direct to disk feature which lets me copy video directly to the DVD burner in my computer. The problem is that the audio is not coordinated with the video. The audio is from 1 to 2 seconds behind the video.

It has been suggested that the audio and video drivers on my computer are outdated. In fact, they both have dates in the second half of 2003 whereas the ADS software was created in 2004 and contains Direct X (I think that's the term) controls which (supposedly) my drivers will not handle.

Welcome to TechSpot

Toshiba's are generally one of the best laptops around.
Has toshiba tech supp. been able to shed any light on the
dual monitor issue?
I wonder if your 1st prob may be extending desktop to second
monitor (projector) or possibly, cloning desktop to prjector.

I personally have not had the pleasure of working with a projector
on a pc, let alone a laptop. I'm new to both worlds there.

Generally speaking, I've had trouble with any of "direct to cd/dvd"
software features.
It may be suggested to bypass this feature and use the
full feature video capture to hdd then to dvd. This may save
some grief with matching up audio feed with video.

I know you are not the only one having these particular prob's and
I'm certain you came to the right place as many here at TechSpot

Hi people.
i recently just got a new motherboard, videocard, and 1 gig of ram which is listed in my signature. my problem is my games should run well on this computer because my brother has the same things as me. Im thinking the problem is my video card because he doesnt have the same one as me. i try to run a game called battlefield 2142 on medium graphics and it should run very well like it does on his computer, i turned it down to low and play and it runs fast but not to smooth and its still a little choppy in some places. I really dont understand what the problem could be because im pretty sure i have the latest drivers for it. the thing I may not be so sure on is drivers for my motherboard or processor, should that have a big impact on gameplay?
Thanks for the time anything will help me at the moment.

I've tried everything I can think of and nothing works, so I came here for help.

I am running Windows XP SP3.

I recently had to wipe my system and start anew, when I installed Windows it automatically installed a driver for my vid card from Microsoft. Using this driver open GL will not run(Actual error message from Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy below). I attempted to change the drivers to those provided on the manufacturer disk and it wouldn't allow me to set the resolution above 640x480 with 4 bit color, I get the same problem from the drivers downloaded from the nVidia website.

Hi all,

I upgraded my computer from Windows XP Home 32 bit Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit at the beginning of this year, and have been struggling with my graphics card ever since. It's an Nvidia GFX 5200. When I had WinXP ... it worked absolutely perfectly with no problems what so ever, but as soon as I switched to Win7, it went wonky. When I tried to install drivers for it from Nvidia.com, it gave me the error message "Nvidia Installer cannot continue. This graphics driver could not find compatible hardware". Screen cap here >> http://i56.tinypic.com/1hu0g.jpg . I've tried archived drivers, new drivers, everything, and it's the same story with all of them. I finally ran them in compatibility mode, and got them to install, but still not right. I have no areo effects, my screen resolution is crud (but I found out that that is the fault of a cord), and the Nvidia control panel won't open. I also cannot view movie files on my computer. Windows Media Player and Winamp both give me a black screen, while internet videos, say from youtube, play fine. My monitor is a 1280x800 Acer x230W.

If anyone has any information that may help, or if I can provide you with any info that may help you help me, let me know. I'm willing to do any leg work needed, I just need to know what to do.

A:Nvidia GFX 5200 help

I did a bit of poking around, and I am assuming you have the nVidia GeForce FX 5200 (as that's the only 5200 of any kind that nVidia lists). In that, the latest graphics drivers for that card were for Windows Vista and are of the version number 96.85. This is the last version that nVidia plans to release for this card.

ForceWare Release 95

Given that this is an AGP video card, my recommendation is this:

If you want to upgrade your video card, an upgrade to your motherboard may also be in your future. A new processor and RAM may also be in your future depending on the board. It has come down to the fact that your hardware is behind what I call the "upgrade threshold". It's a line that once crossed means upgrading more than one part will be necessary in order to commit any worth-while upgrades.

I hope that information helps.

i installed the 96.85 drivers from windows update (tried the .exe from another source, too).
after restating, the system goes up. few seconds later a notification appears in the tray, saying that the driver fails and the screen turns off and on, this happens every few seconds. i go back to the generic driver by booting into safe mode and uninstalling the driver.
what could be the problem? thanks in advance.

A:nvidia geforce fx 5200

The problem is that there's no nVidia Windows 7 driver for the 5200; support ends with Vista. I'm not sure why you're getting it through Windows Update?

However, all is not lost. Go to the folder where you downloaded the driver and right click on it. Select properties, then select the compatibility tab. Place a check mark in the box entitled, "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", and then make sure XP service pack 3 is listed in the box below.

Without knowing which version you're running, this is the closest I can get you: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Hi, I just recently bought Age of Empires 3 and i'm having some difficulty with its graphics, i'm assuming its due to oudated drivers or lack of drivers.

My system specs are:
intel 2.8Ghz
XP professional
half a gb of ram
Nvidea FX 5200 which is 128 mb

The specs for the game should be fine, and i ve run games before nicely, its just that i formatted recently so i think i may have lost some drivers or somethign that makes the card to work. Im confused because when i remove the nvidia driver, on restart it says it has found new hardware and it automatically reinstalls it all for me. When i go to the nvidia site, which is terribly not user friendly, i cant seem to get the driver. for one thing it says windows xp pro 64 bit, which i downloaded but it says i dont have the correct os, so i guess i dont have 64 bit, but there is no other xp pro drivers there, so i tried to download just windows xp drivers but it says "500 There is no web application configured to service your request". i would really appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

I recently bought a PC at my local CompUSA which had a Ge4 Ti 4200 card, its been about 4 months now and my 4200 just died, I brought it to CompUSA to be replaced and after many phone calls and long waits in line they replaced the Ti 4200 or so I thought,of course when I brought it home and checked I found out that they actually put in a Ge5 FX5200 instead.

My question is what exactly is the difference performance wise between these two cards and should I go through the trouble of bringing my PC back explaining what happened waiting in line etc. etc. or are these two cards comparable enough that its not even worth the HUGE about of trouble it would be trying to convince them they made a mistake and to wait while they order the right card and so on.

Any feedback would be greatly apreciated.

Also what is the easiest way to figure out how much memory is on your graphics card if you don't have the box or any of the documentation it came with?

I recently upgraded from a Nvidia 64MB card (MX440 i think it was?) to this 128MB AGP card. When i play Half life 2 with the 64MB, its pretty smooth, not too choppy unless it gets to an intense shooting then it gets a little choppy. But now when i try to run HL2, its REALLY choppy even if im just running around and not shooting. So i decided to run a different game, in this case, was Far Cry and yet im having the same problem. Heres my comp spec from Gameadvisor

Processor Intel Pentium 4 3000MHz
Display Card NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
Memory 1280MB
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP
Free Disk Space 49.0GB
Display Card Memory 128MB
Display Driver Version
DirectX Version 9.0c
Optical Drive CD/DVD
Sound Card Realtek AC97 Audio

Ok I am running 2 dual video cards, both by Nvidia, 9600 GT & 9800 GT.

Do I need to use both CD's to re-install the drivers for Win 7 64?

Or are the drivers already updated with Win 7?

Or do I need to go to Nvidias website and get the latest drivers?

A:Do I still need to use my Nvidia video card CD's?

Got to NVidia's site to get latest drivers for Win 7 x64. Run it and let it install. Use the device manager to see what is going on with each individual card after. Use the device manager to install to one or both if the setup.exe doesn't do so.

Good luck.

I'm looking at the latest video cards that are out, i.e ATI X1600XT/X1800XT/X1900XT and Nvidia 7600GT/7900GT. I'll have an X2 and a ASUS SLI/Crossfire mobo for upgradability. I'm not a big gamer and want image quality so am leaning towards ATI. I'm into video/photo editing and HTPC/Multimedia, but want the card to last 3 or more years into Vista and what apps in my fields of interest become available for it. I know DX10 is coming and who knows what versions after that in this 3 year time span.

Should I get the cheap X1600XT/7600GT and wait till next year when Vista/DX10 are in service and the video cards are up to date to buy an expensive card if even then? I'm leaning this way but want varied opinion.

Will these cards not be able to take advantage of DX10+ when it comes? Will they run DX10+ at all or do I never apply that update?

My biggest goal is high quality/accurate image. But supporting all the Vista visual goodies and non-game apps to come is important. So which is it ATI or Nvidia? And which card for the winner?

Hi guys,

i've been experiencing some problems with my pc. i got this nvidia geforce fx5200 last year and my desktop pc is a PCChips 810mlr motherboard, 256mb ram (then, now it has 512), a AMD Athlon XP 1800+ at 1.53GHz and this geforce. It started all well but i pc is continuosly restarting. When i had 256mb of ram PC never restarted, then when i placed 256 more it began doing it, over and over. First i thought maybe the new ram is defective so i took the nvidia out and ran the pc on the onboard video card; PC works just fine that way, so ram isnīt bad. Then, i realized that pc didnīt restarted and after checking in the BIOS info at boot it was running the processor at 100MHz board frecuency. I switched to what i've always used, the 133MHz frecuency.

When i did that PC got restarting over and over again; both ram modules are the same type Markvision 133MHz DIMMs. So here's more strange stuff in five different tryouts:

1. If i place the nvidia, use 512mb ram, and procesor at 133MHz which gives the 1.53GHz, PC restarts over and over.

2. if i place nvidia, 512mb ram, procesor at 100Mhz which gives 1Ghz PC works juuuuuust fine, great! no restarts...but slower although..

3. If i place the nvidia, 256mb ram and procesor at 133MHz(1.53GHz), it works just fine!!! ?????????

3. if i take out the nvidia, use 512 ram and procesor at 133Mhz(1.53GHz) PC works juuust fine TOO!!! can you believe that?

4. if i take out the nvidia, use 512 ram and pro... Read more

You may have two problems here - the first started when you added the ram, the second with the graphics card.
Fix one at a time.

I have the above card and a Athlon 1GHz box running win2k.

Every time I try to enable the second monitor from the windows control panel, the computer crashes, right when it pops up the 15 seconds message, everything frezzes, 15 doesn't do anything, no caps lock, no control alt delete. Nothing. I have to reboot then same old crap.

I switched from ATI to nvidia so I could avoid the menu bar across to frickin monitors. Plus I wanted to run them at different sizes, (why DualView should be cool) But the TV out sucks, the multimonitor crashes.

What gives?

What kind of a card is it? VGA + DVI + TV-out? Which versions of Detonator drivers have you tried?

I have a system I built myself 2 years ago that has this graphics card. It has worked fine until yesterday when it started to flicker and cause my monitor to sound like it was turning off and on. The windows would lock up until the next click and then when some windows were closed, parts of them would remain on the page. Eventually it would happen enough that the system would crash.

I am wondering if these are symptoms of the card going bad or overheating, or if this could be just a driver issue. Nothing has changed on my system for weeks (last Windows Update done) so I am not sure why out of the blue this would occur unless the card is just fried for some reason.

I know this is not a lot of the technical info that you are used to getting but I thought perhaps the symptoms alone would reveal an answer, therefore saving me from having to dismantle the box to get all the other info.

Thanks for any insight you might be able to provide.

I have an online class starting soon so any input anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks----

It sounds like the card is failing or the fan may have stopped working and its overheating. The 5200's seen to be very troublesome.

Long story short my computer does not recognize its graphics card as what it is drivers are installed and everything(77.72's with direct x 9.0c) but when i try to run counterstrike source it says that I need a direct x 7.0 compatible graphics card or something of that sort, I have done all that needs to be done(uninstalling previous drivers, then rebooting in safe mode/regular mode and installing the new drivers with no anti virus type programs running)

When watching videos everything appears to be at double brightness(eg gammas way to high) but I can play plenty of games just fine without the gamma being affected(just not ones past direct x 7)

Any hints/tips would be appreciated

This is a message to everyone who use:
Nvidia GeForce 5200
Using the driver:
Nvidia Windows 2000/XP Display Driver

You will find that your computer will crash and this is because of the driver, and there is NO way to stop this unless you wipe XP (Everytime you uninstall the driver windows will install it again).
So the only way to keep your files is to get a new graphics card.

I have been trying to get this problem fixed for months and after all that time all the facts show you will HAVE to get a new card or re-install Windows XP.

Have you checked to see if there are any Omega drivers you might try for this situation? I am going to give you a link so you can check because these drivers are more stable than the standard drivers if available for your card:

I bought a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 about 18 months ago and had no problems with it. I was then forced to reinstall XP and I bought a new Gigabite K8 Triton motherboard and AMD Sempron 2800+ 1.6 GHz. Now whenever I play DVDs, Mpegs or avi files the picture becomes grainy, blurred and the colors are distorted. The problem can be corrected by activating the "NVKeystone" option, but this is a lengthy inconvenience and causes my mouse to judder. Is there a "quick fix" for this??
