Plug and play monitor problem

Q: Plug and play monitor problem

I recently upgraded my board and processor from a pentium 450 to an AMD while keeping my drives. I am operating on windows 98se. My new board has built in onboard 64 meg graphics while my old system had on board 8 meg. My problem is, I cannot change the monitor settings. It is set at 16 colors and 640x480 res. I have only two color selections available, 2 and 16.
I have tried various bios changes, driver updates, reinstalling windows and also deleting the device and rebooting.

Any Ideas?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have CTX PR705F monitor whch doesn't have drivers(even in CTX homepage). I was sad that it should be found as Plug & Play monitor and work properly. But it didn't, it found it as a standard monitor. So, does anyone know how you can chose Plug & PLay manually?
I tryed reinstallng and 'manually chosing' the drivers but couldn't find plug & PLay
Any ideas?
(I have Win ME)

A:Plug & Play monitor

Right-click on your desktop and chose "Properties". That will bring you to the "Display" option in "Control Panel". Click on "Settings", and then on the "Advanced" button near the bottom.

Next, click on the "Change" button near the top of the new window and then look for and select "Plug and Play Monitor". Windoze should be able to find and load the standard Plug and Play monitor drivers for you.

I have an Emachine T-5026 with an Intel 915GAG board. Ubuntu 7.10 is installed. I currently have a SOYO 24" LCD monitor in the system, (1920 X 1200 native resoution).
Ubuntu will not pick this monitor up at more than 640 X 480 resolution. I couldn't find a video driver for the Linux at Intel's support page. What now?

The previous monitor was a Westinghouse 22" at 1680 X 1050 resolution. Ubuntu picked this up at a maximum of 1280 X 1024.

The Intel XP video drivers for this chipset will provide all native resolutions.

Perhaps install an inexpensive graphics card which does have driver support for Linux.

Try starting your computer up in safe mode. and check the resolution setting of the graphics. If it is set too high for your old old monitor as you put it, lower the resolution. Try 800X600. Also try setting your color quality to a lower setting.

I am trying to install a 17" LCD Monitor with a no name LCD controller that has no plug and play capability. I have tried turning off hidden modes (works in 2000 Pro) and changing the monitor type to standard LCD 1280 by 1024. In the display information window it show 1280 by 1024 but it is displaying 640 by 480.

Anyone have a work around this feature of XP Pro? Oh, yes I have tried this on XP Home and it works up to 1024 by 768. Which is better then I get with XP Pro.

Thanks for any help I can get.

Good Morning,
I purchased a refurbished Acer K202HQL Monitor to connect to my Acer E5-575 Laptop running Windows 10. The monitor is supposed to be plug and play, but it is not. I cannot get the monitor to work with the laptop. It is connected by a cable, like the ones that come with printers. It came with the monitor. The monitor does not have a port for an HDMI cable, but the laptop does.

Device Manager has a PnP Monitor driver. I have tried to updated the driver, and get "Windows has determined that the best driver for this device is already installed." I have also scanned for hardware changes and find none.

I have also scanned for hardware changes in Device Manager for Display Adapters and there are none.

When I try to add the monitor as a device in Device Manager it is not found.

When I go into Display Settings the monitor is not found.

I am stuck. Ideas please...TY!

Hey! I bought a plug and play monitor with embeded speakers.. The monitor works great! But the speakers do not!!! I have everything plugged in right and it still doesn't work.

The monitor/speakers I bought is the 17 inch LCD monitor by Westinghouse
When I go to the sound and audio devices part of the control pannel, it sais "No Audio Device"
When I go to the hardware part it says that everything is working properly.
I am running windows XP Home Edition
I was thinking my computer is confused and only thinks it is a monitor, but the speaker part has its own seperate plug (the little green type)

I don't know what else to say about it so I guess we can just start with that.

I have a PIII 700 motherboard with an on-board SIS 630 graphics card.

I updated the drivers for the graphics card recently, and it works just fine, with one exception - when the computer boots up, it doesn not load the driver for the plug and play monitor!

If I check the display properties (via Control Panel), it seems that the monitor cannot be recognised, and consequently the power scheme settings for the monitor do not work and have to be reset.

If I run the 'Add new hardware' applet, it finds the 'Plug and Play Monitor' immediately, and the system returns to normal!

I have been to the monitor manufacturer site (Logix) and can't find any specific drivers for the monitor. That doesn't seem to be the issue. I assume that it's probably tied up with the order in which things are being loaded, but I can't work out how to alter this?

This one has me stumped. Hope someone can help.

Hi.... You guys helped me so much with another problem, (birthday present for son)...hoping you can help again. Temporarily, my mom has hooked up her computer in our house, but didn't have a monitor, so used our flat panel from our Dimension 2400. We ended up using HERS (not a flat panel, but a newer dell) and tonight I switched them back. Now our my son's Dell flat panel, which is supposed to be a plug and play PLANAR, will not register. The system is using the default VGA and all the text is too big, doesn't give any other display options but 16 bit. I tried turning the computer off for about a half hour and restarting, then unplugging the monitor, turning the pc on, and plugging the monitor in after the pc was started, hoping to see the "new hardware found" msg, but nothing. Why won't it detect the right settings automatically? (I recently also reloaded the entire system from the original boot cd again, since it was really congested). Help anyone?

Make sure you have the correct drivers, or plug it into the other vga adapter.

I recently connected a Gateway VX1130 Diamondtron 22-inch CRT monitor to my IBM computer running Windows XP. The colors on the monitor are way off, even after trying to adjust them using the controls on the monitor itself. There's nothing wrong with the monitor; I got it from my uncle and colors showed up beautifully when he had it on his computer.

I thought downloading the monitor's driver might solve the problem, but every time I try to install it, I get a screen that says something along the lines of it won't install because the computer is using the generic Plug and Play driver instead. How can I get it to recognize the monitor's actual driver instead of the Plug and Play? And more importantly, if I am able to get the official driver to work, will the colors show up more accurately, or would I just be wasting my time?

Hello all,

I have been having a problem with my monitor setup for ages and am now at the end of my tether...so need some help!

I have a Digimate L-1931W monitor, in plain speak, a 19" Widescreen TFT LCD monitor. The screen had been flickering (losing channels) for a while and I have diagnosed the cable as being the culpret (A VGA D-Sub, 15 pin cable). Change the cable you say...which I have done 3 times. Herein lays the problem.

This is where I show my staggering ignorance. The original cable seems to allow my windows XP machine to locate and install an appropriate driver for the monitor, and my Nvidia adapter has the monitor listed as a "M19W". Using any other VGA cable means that the monitor is listed as a "CRT" monitor in my nvidia control panel, and is impossible to change. Being CRT, it gives me no option to have the relevant widescreen resolution (in this case 1440 x 900), and also annoyingly flickers on and off as if it has a CRT gun! (when changing resolution).

Does anybody have any idea why changing a VGA cable would disable the plug and play driver installation from my monitor? Many thanks for any help.

Hey there people.

My problem is quite complicated, so bare with me. The problem has lasted quite a few months, me only getting around to trying to do something about it when I had time, seeing as I could just use my laptop for other things I do.

I've been reformatting/reinstalling Windows XP (Either Home or Pro) for quite a while now and have been having trouble with my monitor/video card. I'm not sure which is causing the problem.

So I've been reformatting quite a few times, and after each reformat/reinstall I've tried installing drivers (GeForce 6600 [Both the newest and the oldest versions - have tried both] and nForce 4 series) and after every time I've installed them the Display settings keep showing my monitor as Default, instead of Plug and Play as it use to do about a few months back.

Anyway, the reason this is problematic is that I can't play Battlefield 2 with these settings, and whenever I try to my computer shows an Out of Range message.

I'd really appreciate any help with fixing this problem.

Hi guys,

I've been rearranging my workspace, and tried to connect my monitor (viewsonic 19in flat screen) with an extension svga cable. The machine powers on and I get a display, but the optimal viewing resolution (the monitor has a little popup message that says 1440x900) is not available as an option when I go into display settings.
When I look in device manager, the monitor is listed as a generic plug/play device. Do I need to manually install a driver from teh manufacturer? Previously, when just plugging the monitor directly to the machine with no cable the display looked fine, but now it doesn't look as good.

A:monitor detected as standard plug and play when connected with extension cable

You'd be better of with a long high quality cable then using an extension.

Yes, install the drivers from the manufactures website. These will help your GPU set the correct resolution.

my dad was trying to install the software for a microsoft PCI slot card before installing the card and we kept having a problem finding HasUpNP.inf

It said to look in the Temp folder, but I wasn't able to find it and I wasn't "authorized" to search the UPNP folder on the CD Rom. This is for a Dell computer with WIN98 (we finally got the display problem fixed)

I even tried to see if maybe it was something to do with this old program called WinTV (since the HAS part looked like the first letters of a manufacturer's name).

Anyway, I tried this name in google and no results. I managed to get the Broadband utility software installed by "Browsing" the CD using the "browse" feature when I was in MY COMPUTER.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions? I'm totally clueless and I really want to get this fixed. There are some programs on that computer I want to update (spyware elimination programs) and I wanted to download some programs on it so I could clean up junk files and stuff.

So, if anyone has suggestions or maybe a link to help me, I'll be grateful!

You might try setting the CD-RW to master and the CD-Rom to slave. All the prebuilt systems I've seen with both a cdrw and a cd drive have had it set that way.

Problem: Plug and Play isn't working. If I start services.exe and right click Plug and Play, I have no option to click Start, Stop, Pause, Resume, or even restart it. Plus Device Manager doesn't display my devices including my usb controller devices and usb adapter because the service, plug and play is not started. Because of this situation, my usb adapter won't work meaning internet won't be possible. Also the Plug and Play icon never appears when I plug in any usb devices. System Restore won't work and viruses are not causing this problem. I need to find a way to fix the problem. A Sfc scan didn't fix the problem, and my only thought into this would be to find the files for Plug and Play and replace the ones on my system currently. The darn thing is that I don't have a boot cd. Thanks for your help :). I hope I can fix this problem, I appreciate your support.

A:Plug & Play Problem!

Open your registry and find the key:

Set the value of "Start" to "4" to disable the service, or "3" to enable it.

Find the key:
Set the value of "Start" to "4" to disable the service, or "3" to enable it.

After you finished, reboot your computer. If changing it doesn't work, try enabling Plug and Play in BIOS.

If nothing works at all, you might want to consider investing into external storage drive to save all your programs and reinstalling the system.

Please can you help me. I am a computer idiot and I am having problems with my printer and 'Plug & Play'. At least I think this is what my problem is!

I have an HP and Windows XP

My printer wasn't working. The computer can't seem to detect it. It is an HP Photosmart 2575 All-in-One. It has been working - but I must have done something and I don't know what I have done.

To try and fix the problem, I decided to reload the CD that came with it and it recommended uninstalling before reinstalling everything. I uninstalled but now when I come to reinstall, it keeps coming up with a message saying basically that it can't continue and the problem is with Plug & Play. It asks if I want to fix the problem and I say yes, but it can't fix it. And I can't get my printer cd reinstalled and my printer working again until I get the Plug&PLay problem fixed.

I tried searching my computer for anything called Plug & Play but can't find anything. I hope I haven't inadvertently deleted it???

Normally I would restore my computer to an earlier time - but it gives no back dates spookily!

Please please help me.

I don't know what HijackThis is all about but everyone else seems to post a log so I will to and hope this helps you help me.

Thank you so much in advance.

A:Plug and Play Problem no one knows do you

1. Insert your Windows XP CD and find swenum.sys - either in DRIVER.CAB or SP2.CAB. Copy it to the proper location noted above. Also put it in C:\Windows\System32\drivers. If you don't find it or can't do it, just skip to step 4.

2. Do a search in your Windows folder for machine.inf. There may be more than one location, but note down which one you select.
Open it (double-click) and locate (near the top) the line "ExcludeFromSelect=*". Put a semi-colon followed by a space at the beginning of this line to disable it.

3. Look for this line near the top: "SWENUM.CoInstallers.CopyFiles = 11 ; %windir%\System32".
"%windir%\System32" indicates that the file swenum.sys should (normally) be located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.
Close machine.inf, saving changes.

4. Go to Control Panel => Add New Hardware. Follow the wizard and manually select to Add System Device. Click on 'Have disk'. Navigate to machine.inf. You will have to do a search in your Windows folder. In the list of Standard Devices on the left, select "Plug and Play Software Enumerator" on the right. Finish the installation.
Restart the computer.

Device manager should not be showing an antivirus driver.
Device manager is as stated Device listing. Hardware and the drivers for that hardware.

Uninstall Kl2. in Device Manager. Right click and delete if option is listed on the driver listing.

If it will not delete you may have to remove kaspersky completely.

Hello, i've recently installed Windows 7 and cannot get my printer (lexmark p4350) to work.

The problem is that the installation of the drivers won't continue without printer plugged in, and when I plug it in, Windows automatically installs it's own driver, which doesn't work.

I've tried disabling Plug&Play for the duration of the install process, but haven't got any luck, i'm starting to think that it is impossible on Windows 7 (i know that on Vista it was just a matter of disabling it through services.msc).

I would appreciate any ideas you might have.

Although written in response for a Vista problem with your printer the answer holds true but you will have to point it to where the driver is on your hard drive.

I have recently purchased a Keysonic Wireless Keyboard, the installation on this is plug and play. The computer I am trying to install this on is about 5 years old, but had not been used for about 4 years. I have completed all updates and have gotten wireless broadband installed. When I plug in the dongle for the keyboard in the computer is not recordnising the hardware. The instruction advise to check that the BIOS system supports USB keyboards, but I don't know how to get into the BIOS system to check this. I am running on Windows XP version 2002, and the computer is a Packard Bell. I have tried the F1, F2, DEL, but it just goes to a blank screen and dosen't do anything. Please help, not sure what to do next. I have tried the dongle in another PC and the hardware shows up immediately.

A:Plug & Play Wireless Keyboard problem

I most cases you will probably need to access the Bios to change settings to allow the keyboard to work, and as you said pressing those keys should have brought it up.
However you may be able to use a USB --> PS/2 adapter and plug your usb keyboard into the (purple?) PS/2 keyboard port at the back of your computer, your keyboard may have even come with this adpater, otherwise they are cheap & common. This should allow you to use the keyboard with full funtionality, except for the hot swapping ability, you will not be able to plug your keyobard in while windows in running, but will need to restart.
However I cannot guarantee if this will work for your USB dongle, but it has worked for me.

To get to Disk Management, go to Start and type "diskmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

However, recently, I have noticed that anything I plug in2 any of the usb drives (be it ipod, external hard drive, or even a brand new printer) isnt installing. They are recognised alright, but instead of installing automatically, I am prompted for a disc, and even for things which I do have the disc (eg printer), it still does not work. Things that were used before this problem cropped up, eg another ipod, another printer, a mouse, are working fine. I have spoken to HP, Microsoft, the printer manufacturers, tech guys, everyone, and the best advice I got was to backup my data and wipe everything and start again. But seeing as I can't use an external hard drive, this could prove tedious and frustrating. I would be eternally gr8ful to any1 who could offer me anything to help me out of this bind!

This problem is widely posted on the web, where the PC has no audio because it shows up under Device Manager that the Plug n Play Software Device Enumerator is not working properly (it has a yellow exclamation sign next to it), even though the audio devices are showing up properly under the Audio device manager.

So I follow the typical instructions to uninstall and re-install drivers and it still doesn't work, and the new device is showing up as a printer, when it's not.

Funny thing is, when I turn on the TV tuner card, I get audio from the sound card, so I know it's not a hardware issue, but when I try to play audio from Youtube or something web-based or media player, there is no sound.

Can anyone help? Should I try to run a repair or will I need to re-install the OS? I'm thinking I might as well go to Windows 7.

Back at the first part of December I used Acronis 11.8053 to clone my old hard disk main drive (boot drive) onto a new Western Digital 400 gb new drive which was set up as a slave drive on the ide chain. I then removed my old boot drive and moved the new WD 400 gd over to the primary drive, change the jumps to make it the master. I then put the Western Digital 160 drive which had been my slave drive before I started all this. Booted up the computer, and on the first boot up everything looked fine. On the next boot up and all subsequent boot ups after loading in many of the objects that appear on the task bar it polls the floppy drive a couple of times and up pops the "found new hardware wizard" and flags each of the Western Digital drives as new hardware. When the window for the hardware wizard comes up, if I proceed as it indicates the machine searches around and never finds what it is looking for. Since each of the drives uses generic drivers this is no surprise. The device manager then flags these drives with a "!". If on boot up, when the hardware wizard window shows up I click on cancel I later get the pop up message that these devices may not work correctly. However, the device manager shows no sign of a problem. When I look at the drivers that are used by these disks it lists drive.sys, PartMgr.sys, and snapman.sys in that order. The disks seem to work fine,. I put my security zone on the 400 gb drive and added a new partition seemingly ... Read more

My sony pcv v200g all in one desktop with XP home edition recently stopped recognizing any devices that are plug and play. my flash drive, lynksis wireless adapter, etc. all of the sudden don't work in any of the 4 usb ports. The printer and my dell axim cradle still work in all of the 4 usb ports. I did full a full restore and they still do not work. On device manager there are no yellow exclamations. When I click on the unknown device it says there are no drivers for this device. When you click on update drivers it says the best driver was already being used. Any ideas.

I have installed the software n connectd the fone, fone recognises the shre mode but the comp does not detect the device

A:Plug n play USB problem for mobile fone tools

I would try reinstalling the software and VERY CAREFULLY make sure that every step goes OK! Sounds like some driver did NOT install on the PC so that it can recognize the phone as a supported device.

My problem is that Non-plug and play drivers stop responding, which causes the computer to stop functioning. Then i'll have to turn it off from the cable and reboot.

Sometimes it happens after 10-15 minutes from the time I turn the computer on.

the previous pic. shows the drivers i'm having trouble with

the next pic. summarize what i'm facing due to drivers problem. [pic. from tuneup]

To mention, the problem started 2-3 days ago.

Have you checked for malware? I'd suggest running the free Malwarebytes. Update the database and run the full scan. It could take over an hour depending on size of hard drive.

Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer

If Malwarebytes is clean I'd next check the integrity of your system files. Try running System File Checker. If it finds any problems run 3-4 scans.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Hi all, can anyone help- i have the following errors.

1. Bluescreen - details attached

2. I tried to download amd overdrive (stupidly cos i didnt realise it was already part of catalyst cc which is installed). Installation caused the computer to bluescreen and since then it will not boot up unless the boot cd is in. Power on- goes to first screen showing amount of ram, etc...; second screen appears titled hardware configuration (as normal) but instead of moving on to boot windows it just sits there with a flashing cursor. rebooting and sticking the cd in causes it to ask 'boot from cd/dvd?' i just ignore it and then i can get in fine.

Any help mucho appreciated.

A:BSOD, plug & play issues and startup problem

You can go ahead and turn driver verifier off for now, it's actually causing you extra crashes.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

You are running several very old drivers, one seems to be related to your monitor.
Anyhow driver verifier may actually be causing most of your startup issues here.

A device driver attempting to corrupt the system has been caught. This is
because the driver was specified in the registry as being suspect (by the
administrator) and the kernel has enabled substantial checking of this driver.
If the driver attempts to corrupt the system, bugchecks 0xC4, 0xC1 and 0xA will
be among the most commonly seen crashes.

Trying to start using an external USB 2.0 Hard Drive enclosure unit on my Dell XPS M1710 laptop running VISTA.

Inserted hard drive from an ealier PC, powered it up, pluged it in ot my laptop USB port, powered up my laptop and was expecting to get a messgae that New Hardware was found, readt to install the required drivers (al be it that the supplied disk does not seem to have a Vista driver). Anyhow, my laptop does not seem to notice a new piece of hardware has been added. I tried rebooting and checking all the cables and all seems OK there.
