I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: System.IO.FilenotFoundException

It might just be a coincidence, but csinstall.exe is generally found with Comet Cursor software, which is known malware and never removes properly (and if so, this isn't really surprising). Again, it could be a coincidence, but I would guess it may not be.

Hello all. I'm just out of ideas with this problem. Before I did a clean format to my PC, I could run this software well without errors (Creation Master 14).I'm getting this "CLR20r3 - System.IO.FileNotFoundException" error, which I think it's somehow related to a .NET Framework component/thing.Those are the logs I could got with AppCrashView and ProccessMonitor:AppCrashView .TXT simple log (open with notepad): https://www.dropbox.com/s/3cw70m2tzxuyfc8/AppCrashView.txt?dl=0Process Monitor complex .XML log (open with notepad/web browser): https://www.dropbox.com/s/t6o04qgwlkripr8/Process%20Monitor.XML?dl=0Process Monitor complex .PML log (BEST ONE; open with process monitor): https://www.dropbox.com/s/9ktunxo3bb79stw/Process%20Monitor.PML?dl=0I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits.List of things I've already tried without success:-Installing .NET Framework versions accumulatively, from 4.0 to 4.6.1 (having uninstalling every .NET Framework version before).-Installing just 4.0 (having uninstalling every .NET Framework version before).-Installing just 4.5.1 (having uninstalling every .NET Framework version before).-Reinstalling Creation Master 14 (in a couple of different locations).Any ideas? Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:  List last 10 Event Viewer log  List Installed Programs  List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy,  taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.
Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.
After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.

I experienced a serious problem over the weekend that is forcing me to restore my system using the Win7 (64 bit Home Premium) "System Image Recovery" tool. I'll cut to the chase because I cannot, unfortunately, access any of my system restore points nor is startup repair working.

My computer has 4 different hard drives. On the c: drive, I only keep the Win7 OS and my various programs. All my other files and data are stored in the other 3 HD's (my data only hard drives).

On one of these HD's I have a System Image from about 2 months ago. I would like to restore this image using the Win7 "System Image Recovery" tool. However, there are various other files and data on this HD in addition to the System Image I would like to restore.

If I use the Win7 "System Image Recovery" tool, will it only restore my c: drive (which is what I want) or will it restore all HD's to their original state from 2 months ago?

I plan on unplugging all of the HD's during the restore process except the c: drive and the backup drive containing the image. However, I do not want to lose any newer files on the backup drive containing the System Image.

Will I be able to restore my c: drive using "System Image Recovery" without losing any new files/data on my backup drive containing the recovery image?

A:System Image Recovery - Does it recover just the system volume or all volumes in the system?

It will only restore the drive that the image was taken from.

It went through fine, and after the sucess information i was prompted to restart the OS.After 30 minutes, the server was still in System State = running in uefi mode. When i checked back to the server management -> Server firmware rab, it said UEFI Primary, Status pending, Version 2.31.Then i "powered off" the server, and restarted it 5 minutes later. All status boxes are green, but system status is still in "system running in UEFI " Mode, it wont start with the OS (VMware) Does anyone have an idea how to fix the problem. The Server also has a secondary bank with the old bios version  1.01 , how can i switch back to this backup BIOS? Many thanks in advance, i am getting a bit desperate here. The server should be operational tomorrow morning again.

hey guys,
after boldly trying to fix this problem on my own though I am not a technical person I am now in a dead end.
- my system is xp
- obviously my pc is infected with the system check or system fix trojan.
- in fact the icon on my desktop says "system check" but all the problems (hidden data, false warnings, everything) are identical to what is described in "remove system fix"
- I have done all steps described in the very understandable "remove system fix guide" (maybe I was wrong, mixing system fix an system check?)
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-system-fix
- rkill has found something, I could post the log
- everything worked until I tried to install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- i could not finish the installation process, when I click "install" there come?s something like "access denied" (english is not my mother and computer language)and then " the setup could not be finsihed. please fix the problem and start the setup again"
- that is basically the status quo....
What should I do? I have no idea...was so happy to find this guide, and now something does not work....Do you need any further information?

Best regards and thanks for reading!

Someone said I need to download McAfee unistall program, but I dont care to get anything from McAfee after this mess.
When I attempt any uninstalls, at the end it needs to restart, then it wont take my password to sign on again.  A error message about Group Policy in small print comes up.  I re-try my password 10 + times, same password I have had for years,
then all of a sudden it goes through and starts up normal.  I couldnt get in Safe Mode either.  Even after the restart the program is still listed under my programs

I've had the System Integrity Scan Wizard, PC-Antispyware, and Security System Protection Control Panel popups. They've been very stubborn but after reading some of the posts here and running Spybot, Adaware, SmitfraudFix, Panda Activescan, Housecall, Stinger Avert, Windows Defender, and SDFix, I am now getting only one popup, which shows up as a blank white rectangle in the center of the screen (and now I can't click "Close" to get it off the screen, since the "Close" option is missing). From the size & shape, I believe it's the Security System Protection Control Panel. Would you please review my HijackThis log? Also, in some of the posts I've noticed recommendations to update Java. The blank popup appeared to be repopulated with information over time...apparently the spyware refreshed itself. I also learned from Task Manager that all of my popups were from the System Integrity Scan Wizard. After some more searching, I found the name (in my case, yzqrqzkp.exe) and told Norton Firewall to block it from accessing the internet. I used HijackThis to fix it and then deleted it and a namesake (YZQRQZKP.EXE-1253B76A.pf) from Windows\Prefetch (not sure that was necessary but deleted it anyway). My only concern is that from what I read, there should have been another copy in \Local Settings\Application Data, which I didn't find. I updated Java per instructions in another post, also turned System Restore off and on. I think the PC is now clean, but would you review my latest HijackThis log to be sure? I removed the 'file_recovery' virus and got everything else back to normal using:

http://malwaretips.com/blogs/file-recovery-virus/

which included using unhide.exe, but now I think my system files are all showing, even though I have checked 'hide system files' and 'do not show hidden files'.

If I go to a place where I think there are supposed to be system files that are supposed to be hidden (like windows/system32) and show the 'attributes' column, they say 'A' (archive) is the only attribute.

Shouldn't they say 'S' (system) and 'H' (hidden)? If so, is there a way to put the 'system' and 'hidden' attributes back on the appropriate files (without doing it manually one by one because that would take forever and I wouldn't know which ones to do)?

I am running Windows Vista.

Thanks! unhide.exe really saved me!

I am trying to get a computer back to functional status. It was not mine, so I have limited knowledge about the progression of symptoms(girlfriend). It is experiencing missing file errors on startup, and internet redirects to spam from basic Google searches(the links redirect to spam if they are clicked on, the addresses work fine if entered manually into a browser). On top of that, it is running AntiMalware programs installed by her father that I am unfamiliar with, which makes picking out the spam messages from the legitimate antivirus warnings rather troublesome. He works with computers, but he is also a native Russian, and consequently favors software I have never seen before. In the interest of maybe saving some time, do you guys think this is worth fixing? She is not, by any means, an avid computer user. So a backup of the few docs/music files/drivers she cares about would not be that difficult. And I would have no issue formatting her HDD and reinstalling windows(And she seems only mildly opposed to the idea). What should be my next step? I'll be happy to run any scans you think would help, but If it looks rather ugly and not worth salvaging, don't be afraid to say so.Cheers,MrEddieAttached is the HiJackThis Log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4Scan saved at 10:02:02 PM, on 9/28/2011Platform: Windows 7 (WinNT 6.00.3504)MSIE: Internet Explorer v9.00 (9.00.8112.16421)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Program Files (x86)\STMicroelectronics\... Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

If you have access to another computer I'd suggest you create a system repaiir disc.

System Repair Disc - Create

It won't re-install Windows, but it will get you into the advanced recovery environment, from where you can run chkdsk.

It does seem highly likely there is a major problem with your hard drive.

On the subject of System Recovery

For some reason, the option for System Restore disappeared from the Tools file of my Accessories Folder in the Start Menu.
In order to recover, I Googled but after hours of searching could find NO answer which helped to recover the option even though a lot of people seemed to
be having the same problem.
After some fiddling around, I managed to resolve:-
1). Locate original System Recovery Icon = C:\Windows\system32\rstrui.exe
2). Right click and choose 'send-to' and Desktop from the options. Make sure it is a Shortcut you are sending and not the
actual exe file.
3). Rename the shortcut to 'System Recovery' (may need Admin priviledges).
4). In Windows Explorer, Click: Tools/FoldersOptions/View/Show Hidden Folder, Files and Drives
5). Locate & Move shortcut to :-
c:\Users\YourName\ApplicationData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\Accessories
6). This is it - Just remember to close Tools/FoldersOptions/View/DON'TShow Hidden Folder, Files and Drives (Opposite of
Step 4).
I have a strong feeling that a downloaded application may have affected this Start item and as such I am running an additional Full
Virus and Malware Scan.
Whatever the case, I now have the option back in my Start/Accessories/Tool/System Folder although of course it was always
available in the Menu Tool Bar of 'Computer' under System Properties., but access is easier from Start Menu I think.

Hey guys. Tried to start my computer last night and while trying to login a error came up on the screen saying "The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application". So i clicked on OK as there was no other option and let my user account load as i would usualy do. Except this time, nothing showed up, not even my task bar. So i spoke to a friend of mine and he said i could probably get everything to show by going to "ctr", "alt", "del", and then making a new process "eplorer.exe".

This worked and everything showed, and i was told i should now do a system restore to about 2 or 3 days before when everything was working properly. However, when selecting the OK button to do a system restore, the same error appeared.

I then tried to go to my control panel, and once again the same error occured. It also appeared when i tried to find out my system information when asked to do so for registering with this site.

This error seems to appear when ever i try to access any of my computer information or programs.

I have tried logging into to a different user account, and exactly the same stuff happens!

I need help badlyyyy!!
Thankyou!

Hi, as this issue first time appears on your pc, please try to perform a system restore to see if the same issue appears.

And you can try to change the virtual memory of C drive:

1 Right click “Computer” and select “Properties”
2 Select “Advanced system settings” on left side.
3 Click “Settings” of “Performance”
4 Click “Advanced”
5 Click “Change” of Virtual memory
6 unselect “Automatically manage paging file size for all drivers”
7 Set the size for driver what you want.
8 Click “Ok”

Hi, I'd like to see if somebody have any idea of what's happening to my sistem: a Medion M3 Composer with Mobo: MSI Ms-7046 socket 775, P4 3.0HT, DDR-SDRAM.
It has been working flawless for about a year, two days ago, I go boot it, and the WinXP splash sceen got frozen. I powered off the PC and powered on again...Single long beep, that repeats regurarly and no video...no boot.

I tried to reset the CMOS by removing the battery. When I powered the PC back on, it shut off immediately and by itself re-powered on after 2-3 seconds doing the same long beep, no boot, no video.

I tried all kinds, removed, all devices, tried one by one the RAMs, installed another CPU, etc. all with no success.

I tried anothe MoBo, but didn't finish booting (!)...it shut off by itself after a couple of BIOS screens...maybe this motherboard is not fully compatible with the system...or faulty PSU???

Unfortunately when I put the orignal MSI MoBo, and put power, I didn't got any self-suts off...but I smelled what I shouldn't have smelled!!!

ANY HELP, CLUE???

THANKS!

Hello dioskilos, A tip of the hat to noahdfear for this fix. Print out these instructions as we will need to shutdown every window that is open later in the fix.Download SmitRem and save the file to your desktop. Double click on smitRem.exe and then click on Start. When it is done, click on the OK button. You should now have a folder called smitRem on your desktop.Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:Restart your computerAfter hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appearSelect the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode. When your computer has started in safe mode and you see the desktop, close all open Windows.Open the smitRem folder on your desktop and double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool.Follow the prompts on screen and wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. When the tool is finished, it will will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or the partition where your operating system is installed. Examining that log should show that the infection was cleaned.Reboot your computer back to normal mode.Click on the Start button, then click on All Programs (or Programs), and then locate the SpywareStrike folder and right-click on it. Select the option to delete that folder. Post a fresh Hijackthis log, the smitfiles.txt log, and tell me how your computer is running.

Hey, everyone!

Looking for some advice on getting my GB back, if possible.
I hope I'm posting in the right area.

The other day I had to do a System Restore on my Compaq (Windows XP) so far everything is working fine now. Though, I noticed my computer was running slower than usual. I checked my overall GB usage and found that it had dropped 20GB since the System Restore. My computer is currently 140GB in total and right now only 50% of it is left, making my computer run...not so quickly.

I used TreeSize and found that the missing 20GB was being used in "System Volume Information". I don't mean to sound like a newbie, but what exactly could be suddenly taking up 20GB of my space since the system restore? Is it possible for me to get it back without harming my computer? How do I go about doing that?

Someone mentioned that I should make sure it wasn't trojan/virus related, so I've run anti-virus, anti-malware, PC tuneups, etc. Everything is clean. Any advice?

Thanks so much!

EDIT: Okay well, after searching deeper into the "System Volume Information" I see that all the used GB is coming from a folder inside called "_restore{" and there must be 70+ different files inside, I'm guessing these are system restore points? Most of them are less than 1GB (though there are so many it apparently adds up) but one of them is a whopping 13.3GB by itself. What can I do about all these?

I got another call from my Dad today. After cleaning his computer completely last month with help from BleepingComputer.com there is another problem so I went to check it out. I can't believe it.

Now on startup a fake system scan runs with many warning of I/O errors and critical hard drive problems. It tries to take you to file-recovery-system.com to buy something. Obviously it is a virus/hijack. I searched on the web for fixes and was able to use RKill.exe to at least stop the process and the warnings. I tried to install MBAM but the install failed twice, I get a permission denied warning. I tried to install after restarting in safe mode, but had the same access denied at the end of the install.

Computer is Windows 7. I am posting from my clean computer since the browser redirects on his computer make it almost impossible.

Accidentally deleted important files, system restore not working
I accidentally deleted some important files when trying to free up space on my laptop. Now, when I startup, it cannot go to my user. I lost my email settings, other functions. My docs are accessible by going to 'My Computer' then to drive C: then to the user, etc. However, from my Start menu, I can't get to them by simply clicking 'My Documents'.

I've tried to do some 'repairs' using Microsoft Knowledgebase but so far have been unsuccessful. I tried some of the suggested things and have made alist of many of the files that are missing when I tried to do a system repair. These files are not in the recovery section c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386. The list is here:

Lmmib2.dll
spider.exe
clipbrd.exe
hostmib.dll
staxmem.dll
admexs.dll
appconf.dll
iisadmin.dll
iisfecnv.dll
infocomm.dll
iscomlog.dll

I ran HiJackThis and the results are below.

any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks.

Can you help me. I have a Inspiron M301Z laptop that originally had Windows 7, but I installed the free Windows 10 upgrade.
I needed to have a ?System Restore? after it finished and rebooted, I got the error message ?A operating system wasn?t found. Try disconnecting any drives that don?t contain an operating system.
A full diagnostic test found no problems.
I would prefer to reinstate the original Windows 7 and Dell drivers, but I assume installing Windows 10 removed the Windows 7 installed on my motherboard.
How can I reinstall an operating system?

Hi, my name is Stormy, I'm new to this forum since I really haven't had any issues in the past.

I am running Vista Home Premium 32bit on my desktop. I restarted it a few days ago to install SP1, it rebooted and started installing 3 updates. Once it reached 100% it kicked into System Repair. After running through it, it restarted and did the same thing. Now 3 days later, it's still in that process where it installs updates, goes to system repair, restarts and starts again.

I tried interrupting it and doing a System Restore, but even at the earliest date on it, it goes right back to that repetitive process. Now I can't get to any of my files or anything else on there. I'm stuck, and I need some help please!

A:Control Panel\System and Security\System BIOS Version\Model?

A clean install wipes out any manufacturer installed software that contains your computer information. (The same thing happened when I did a clean install on my Sony Vaio.) Unless you still have a hidden recovery partition on the hard drive (or recovery disks) that can return your Acer to original factory specs, I'm not aware of anything that can get that data to show up on the System dialog box. However, there are free 3rd party utilities like Speccy that can provide all the Acer data and then some, like real time monitoring of temperatures, hardware serial numbers, etc.

When trying to create a System Image in the "Backup and Restore" facility built into Windows 10, my External 2TB Hard Drive wasn't displayed as a viable location. After doing some digging, it was found in the same utility that the Hard Drive in question was labelled as "SYSTEM", and the drive would be required to be included as part of the image, and that the image couldn't be located on that drive, which, as the [external] hard drive already has around 450GiB+ on it, makes the total size of the backups around 600GiB, which won't fit on any other hard drive I have.

Sidenote:
The 2TB Hard Drive is partitioned to include a 100GiB partition of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with the GRUB 2 Bootloader but as the partition isn't recognised by Windows, surely this can't be affecting the Partition Type.

Is there anything that I could do in order to remove the label from the Hard Drive, as I'm trying to create a System Image as a S.M.A.R.T. test on Ubuntu 16.04 suggested that there may be anywhere up to 190 Failing Sectors on my Internal 320GB Hard Drive.

Thanks in advance.

Hey guys:

I'm an idiot!!! Last night I deleted my System Volume Information folder off of a Raid-0 set of hard drives. As I mentioned, this raid set is not drive with my XP on it. This is just a drive for storage of pictures, video, and other programs I prefer not to have on my C:\. I did take go as far as to turn off System Restore before deleting it. Now when I boot up I cannot access the drive at all. It tells me that "The drive is not formatted. Do I want to format it now?."

I don't want to do that and I am wondering if there is a way to create a new System Volume Information folder so I can access the drive again???

Thanks

A:Deleted System Volume Information Folder on a Non-Operating system drive???

I think you are connecting the dots...where there is no connection.

Deleting a system volume folder...isn't possible by me, even when system restore is not used (I always disable SR immediately after a clean install). Even though the folders are empty and I don't have SR employed, the system won't allow me to delete these empty folders.

I believe that the problem is your RAID setup...perhaps you ought to try to repair it.

Hello,
I have several questions and I think they all probably have to do with virus or spy ware, so I thought I would start here. Operating system is Windows XP

1.When I start my computer it is taking about 2 1/2 to 3 minutes to get to the log on screen. Then, the System 32 folder opens up and is just open on the desktop. This has never happened before.

2.When I go to the Internet in IE I generally can't access items on the page. Example. If I open my bank website, it won't let me go to anything else on the page. It acts like it's doing something, takes forever and then goes back to the page I was on. I don't have the problem if I access the Internet through AOL.

3.When I access Google,a help page,my bank site, even your site, either in IE or AOL all of the print on the page is in a large font and if I print anything it is in this large font. Does my computer know I turned a year older? What gives with this?

Things I've done.
I've run my virus scan and supposedly it's up to date according to McAfee.
I've run my SpyBot and my AOL Spyware. Spybot found MyWebSearch and supposedly deleted it.
I uninstalled games that were expired,I've been running the Clean-up program
and finally last night I ran my defrag.
When I ran the defrag I delayed the screensaver by 90 minutes and it also changed my desktop even though I had not asked it to do that. Now it doesn't have the saved picture that I was using (the name is there, but it i... Read more

1.  You're actually talking about two separate things here.  Item #1 is "restore points", not system recovery.  This restores your system back to point "X" in time.
2.  The second item is "system recovery", with recovers the system to factory specs.
The system recovery, which is usually a partition on your computer.  If this partition is damaged, removed, or files are corrupted, you have only two basic choices:
1.  Order recovery DVDs from the manufacturer; or
2.  Purchase a boxed copy of the OS, and download the drivers from the manufacturer's website.
Have a great day!

I have been experiencing random "Blue Screens of Death" (BSOD) with my laptop recently. It usually happens while trying to play games, but I'm not positive there's a connection there. The most frequent error message is IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, although it has thrown in some other's as well. I bought some new RAM for it a few months ago so I immediately started suspecting that, and ran MemTest86 overnight which turned up no problems. Then, today while I was gone for a bit I had it run the HP System Extensive Test and there I found some problems. I am attaching images I took with my cell phone and then transferred to my computer. I appear to have a hardware and/or memory issue of some sort, the USB errors were a little unexpected. What do these codes mean? In case the pictures aren't clear enough the System Extensive Test came up with following: Memory Extensive Check: FAILED, FAILURE ID: U4SC7F-6RN80G-MFPWXF-406X03, PRODUCT ID: E8A65UA#ABA. The USB Port Failed test result gave Failure ID: U4SC7F-6RN80F-MFPWXF-8D7603. Thank you.

Hello eliteboy,
I have had a look for the zeqpju.sys file and cant find any info on it anywhere. Are you sure that is how it is spelt ?.

There are a couple of things to try.
First open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc/scannow press enter and let it scan, if errors are found you will have to scan again until clean.

If that does not work, try a startup repair with the Vista disk.

Had problems with virus, couldnt update Virus or Malware Protection. I did full shred System Recovery from partition ( HP-
A1130N -Windows Media Edition- Version 2002 Service Pack 2. Dowloaded AVG Virus and ran scan, all OK. Went to MS Dowload center and downloaded and installed 87updates to include IE8, started computer, all OK. Then updater said needed to download SVC Pack 3- took a loooooooooooooong time. THEN COMPUTER WOULDNT START- tried the two options it gave me but no go back to same black screen with boot options-- regualar- last working point- safe mode etc. no go.
At this point I did a full System Recovery again and downloaded virus protection again. I noticed some of the updates are for IE6 and later your install IE8 and it seems one of the updates was for Sc Pack 3. Wondering about these updates now, dont want to go back and have to do this all over again. I have all my important files on a seperate portable backup drive. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Jerry

I would just like to get some opinion about disabling system restore when doing a full system scan. I've read in many anti-virus sites and microsoft that system restore should be disabled to allow the anti-virus software to scan the infected (if infected)system properly. However, another source told me that I should not disable it in an event that the system crashes I cand still revert. Which should I believe in? Any feedbaks, would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Here are the list of site I've read for system restore disabling:

-MICROSOFT = http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q263455/

-ABOUT.COM = http://antivirus.about.com/od/windowsbasics/a/systemrestore.htm

A:Disabling Windows XP System Restore to perform a full system scan

Did you notice that the first link you posted is a Microsoft KB article for Windows ME, not Windows XP?

I would not disable System Restore to perform a scan, I would rather use a Live CD from a AV company to perform an offline scan.
Are you familiar with AV Live CDs?

This must be one you guys have heard before, however i think mines a little differernt.

Ok i boot my comp and just before loading screen it comes up with
Windows ould not start becuase the following file is missing or corrupt:
\Windows\System32\Config\System

Now, i have found what microsoft says to do, which is to put a windows CD in and press r, to go to the command promt screen in order to put in a whole lot of code. Fair enough i say, looks easy enough.

One problem though, i put my windows disk in, i press r. At this stage the instructions say the black screen should first ask me for a password to log in as admin however mine doesn't. I then go to type in the first bit of code the microsoft instructions tell me to type which is MD TMP i then get a message saying access denied! i type help, see a list of commands and found the logon command, so i tried that except it doesnt give me a list of admins where i should then be able to type in the password and log on in order to be able to type the code which microsoft has to me to type.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! i really cbf formating my hardrive.

btw running windows XP SP2. Comp is P4, 1gig ram. fx5700 graphics card.
PS: instructions i am refferring to are

A:No boot, File missing or corrupt: windows\system\config\system

Went through the same thing with my older computer (HP Pavilion 502n/WinXP Home). Nearly brand new when it was given to me by a friend, three years ago, who forgot to give the Windows recovery disk. Then in mid August, it pulled a similar stunt as yours.

At First it was blackscreen with "Windows not shutdown completely and options to go into "safemode" or normally. That lasted a couple of times when it suddenly would not complete the boot up and got a similar message as you did.

Took it to a computer tech, who found a BIOS glitch and thought he had fixed it.

Then three weeks later, in early September, it did it again. Would not boot up completely several times. Then it finally did....after going online for a while, it started crashing and restarting every 20 minutes. Eventually it finally did boot up to show something else on a blue screen with a list of checking files systems on C: with this:

1 of your disks need to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk chk at any time.
CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3)
CHKDSK verifying indexes (stage 2 of 3)
Deleting index entry CAUGNJQR in ...and on and on until it reached 94% and crashed.

another boot and it was CMOS Checksum and so on.
At fourth bootup, it finally reached screen with F keys and I hit them to go into Safemode and HP system recovery (non destructive file mode).

After five hours, it completed that and Crashed. I finally boxed it up for a couple of days to take back to the... Read more

I have windows 7 home premuim 64 bit
I went to create restore point on my new dell and after about an 1/2 hour of waiting for SR to open up I got this:

You have no Restore Points. Use System Protection to create restore point.
When I attempt to turn on System Protection, it doesn't show any drives available when it opens -- it just says that it's searching for available drives and it keeps searching and doesn't stop. Eventually, I'll receive the following Error Message:

"There was an unexpected error in the property page: System Restore encounter an error. Please try to run System Restore again (0x81000203)." also all button are greyed out. I wanted take an image to show you but that's not working either. Is there hope?

Thank you.

I am using Windows XP Pro and recently created a restore point in my System Restore program. This was over a month ago, and I no longer need that restore point. When I defrag with either Diskeeper or Norton Speedisk, I get a report on a good number of defragmented/defragmentable files, most of which are in the Restore folder in my System Volume Information folder. I was able to access my System Volume folder and found the offending file but hesitate to delete that file unless I can be assured that I can do so safely.

Would a simple delete be okay?

Attached is a screenshot of the folder in my Systems Information folder.

Hello I have Windows 7 starter on my HP Mini Laptop

Suddenly I cannot:
enter safe mode
system restore back to factory settings
view system information

I attached how my pc looks when I click on things like firewall, system restore, system information etc.

Also, I often see corrupt disk notices and there was a notification on my desktop that said my WIndows version was unlicensed or something like that.

My Windows come up and I can get on the Internet with no problem, but the first thing that made me realize something was wrong was when I kept getting corrupt disk messages. Chrome corrupt disk etc.

What I have tried: I went to the tech support forum and took care of any malware problems AND I pressed F2 to run all the test and everything passed, hardware etc.

How could this be fixed?

Thanks so kindly!

Hello there,
Download and install Advanced SystemCare 5 from IObit/MajorGeeks (free version), (sorry I can't provide any links, I'm on a cell phone) and run a Deep Care.
Otherwise, just contact the dealer who sold it to you, and tell them about the software counterfeit notif first. There are ways to circumvent this, but I unfortunately can't help you that way. Ask for a replacement, or a refund. Copy all your personal data to a USB Drive or any other storage device, wipe/shred your files from the laptop if you return it. You get the idea.
Here's what else you can do:
Right-click on C: Drive>Properties>Tools>Check Now in the Error Checking field.
Do the same for all drives.
I'll check Google for problems similar to yours. And their solutions. Meanwhile you do the same.
Good luck.
