Print Active Window shows Print Dialog Box on printed page

Q: Print Active Window shows Print Dialog Box on printed page

Hello Everyone,
I have tried searching and searching for this problem but nothing seems to come up with this particularly odd problem. I'm actually running 3rd party software hosted on an AS/400 system but from a Windows 7 32-bit computer. If I right-click the title-bar of the window and select print, the print dialog box comes up asking for the printer I want to use. I select one, then click "Print" and the following comes out on the page....
<See Sample.jpg> (Of course, that's not an actual page, it's a representation of what you'd see on the page, but it's accurate despite the fact that it's color. Anyway, the print screens come out light and don't scan in well.)
As you can see, the print dialog box is clearly visible on the page. This seems to randomly crop up only on Windows 7 boxes and once it starts, we seem to have no way to stop it.
HEEEEyyyUUULLPP!!!
Thanks,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Three days ago when I tried to print from the web and then WORD there was no installed printer. I checked and the printer was still installed but when printing a document the print screen said their was no printer installed. I checked and the print spooler was not working. So I downloaded the Microsoft tool MicrosoftFixit.Printing.Run.exe. I ran it and presto the printer worked but only once and when I went to print again, again the print box showed that there was no printer installed. So I have to run the Microsoft.Fixit.printing.run.exe tool every time I want to print a page then restart the computer. A royal pain and time waster.

Something is turning the spooler off and not allowing individual programs to see the installed printer and therefore reports that there is no installed printer.

2nd issue. this is a new laptop (ACER) and there is no LED light to show "Caps Lock". I did find a setting that flashes the screen and makes an audible beep. However, my wife has the exact same computer and hers has a 2" x 2" box appear each time she puts cap Lock on. Which is way less distracting than audible beeps and flashing screens. Is there a setting for this? I have not found one in the Microsoft website for Windows 7.

Help,
yarlac

I have a HP C4850 configured to work through the wireless. I can ping the printer and access its internal web page. Network configuration prints out no fails or errors so as far as I can tell everything is configured correctly. If I send it a print job, a small notepad document with the text "test" in it, it won't print. Eventually it just seems to forget the print job is there. However if I send the job, then print the network device configuration, the print job will print immediately after. I did this 3 times and it was consistent in its behavior. I'm at a complete loss, any ideas?

Since I am new to the forum, I'm not sure where my problem should be posted. I am also not sure if it is a hardware or software related problem, but here it is.

Suddenly, when I try to print, the print properties dialog window does not appear when i click on the properties button. It tries to activate, but immediately reverts back to the print window. This occurs in both OpenOffice 4.1.1 and LibreOffice 4.3, both of which have previously worked fine for months. I often print to both sides of the page (echo print), but can only print on one side (default) since I cannot change the properties. The only thing I can recall that might have any bearing on the problem is that I had previously printed to a file - something I rarely do. I checked the settings and "print to file" is not selected. I am printing to a HP LaserJet Pro M1530 MFP series PCL6 printer and am using Windows 8.1 operating system. I have tried reinstalling both word processing programs and have reset the printer to default settings and updated.

If anyone can help with this problem, I would greatly appreciate your help.

A:Print properties dialog window does not appear

Printers can be very frustrating to say the least. When I've had printer problems in the past, this is what has worked for me:

1. Unplug the power to the printer
2. Wait about 30 seconds or so
3. Plug it in and let it go through it's initialization
4. Then try it again

If that doesn't work, try reloading the printer driver from the HP site. If it still doesn't work, try a system restore back to the last time the printer was working successfully. That's about all the tricks I know for printers. Hope it helps ...

Hi and welcome to SevenForums!

I don't have a printer installed so I decided to test what happens if I try that myself. Same as you, nothing happens. So maybe your printer isn't recognized or installed properly?!

Hey guys,

I have a client at my workplace who has some problems in Internet Explorer 7 on a Windows XP desktop system.

You see, every time my client wanted to print out something, he/she usually goes into print preview. From there, there is a blank page on the first page, but there is some text on the second (and subsequent) pages. He/she is trying to print from a pop-up window with the menu bars and buttons in place.

I have to experiment and play around with the zoom buttons and even change it from portrait and landscape. My client is trying to print some reports and statistics for the VOIP lines on the administration page. How do I fix the particular issue?

My best guess is to upgrade the entire IE web browser to 8 (or maybe 9). Any other suggestions?

A:IE7 - print preview shows blank on first page, but some text on 2nd page

Hello simon726,

I would recommend upgrading to IE8. IE9 is not compatible with XP.

I ran into a very odd issue today that as-is I only have working using a workaround. I have a 32-bit windows 7 machine. The HP 6968 printer is hooked into my wireless router via ethernet cable. I downloaded the drivers and ran the setup on another ethernet connected Vista 32-bit machine and a wireless Win7 64-bit machine. Both print just fine.

On the Windows 7 32-bit machine though, nothing will print. I can successfully SCAN using the printer listed under Devices & Printers so I know the computer is talking to the 6968.

When I do try to print I get a message saying that the job has been sent to the printer. The printer never starts and when I view the print queue nothing shows up. I have tried restarting the spooler service and that does not work either. I also made sure there was nothing listed in the "C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS" directory which there was not. One odd thing I did notice, is that when I print a file will show in this directory for a second and then disappear.

As a work-around, I set up the 6968 on the Vista machine (which is always on) as a shared printer. I then added this shared network printer from the 32-bit Windows 7 machine that I am having the issue with. On the Vista machine there is the option to "render print jobs on client machine" for the shared printer. When enabled, the Windows 7 machine will still NOT print. That's odd. AFAIK, for HP AIOs, one cannot simultaneously use both ethernet and wireless networking.
I think it's "either-or".
I am surprised that you can have both ethernet and wifi enabled on the HP at the same time.
Normally, one would need to disconnect the ethernet to use the wifi, or vice versa.

One *can* use a local (USB) connection + either ethernet or wifi at the same time, though.

I suggest the following for starters:
Disconnect the 32-bit Win7 machine from the HP
Fully uninstall all traces of the HP drivers/software and reboot
Download a fresh copy of the HP drivers/software from the HP drivers/downloads site HEREBe sure to grab the correct drivers/software package for 32-bit Windows 7
There are 2 choices -- the full bloatware package and the "basic drivers"

Reinstall the HP drivers -- make sure you are in a Windows account with Admin privileges when you do; do not connect the computer to the HP until the HP setup wizard prompts you to do so

I have copied/pasted content into my excel workbook
After adjusting row height on any worksheet, I click print preview and I get the same page 20 - 24 times shown in the preview. That is print preview believes it has 20 - 24 pages to print all with the same content. Subsequent content (Beyond the first page) is not displayed.

this only happens after I adjust the row height of any worksheet and it affects all the worksheets
before any row height adjustments the sheets are displayed correctly in print preview
after height adjustment, I expect the sheets to grow to perhaps two pages long perhaps three at most - I cannot however see the second (or third page) in print preview, only the first and that is repeated over and over

I have tried:
Paste special - only paste the text, numbers etc. - result - same as above

Context: Several worksheets one for each client, have pasted past month's staff times from individual worksheets supplied into my single workbook.

Hello to all!

It has been a while since this problem first occurred. Now it has become unbearable. When I try to print, use print preview or enter page setup, Microsoft Word 2003 freezes. The same thing also happens with other Office 2003 programs like Microsoft Excel 2003.

I am not sure if there is a problem with my printer driver (the printer is an HP L2600n by the way) as I have reinstalled it many times AND I have no problem using it as a network printer and can print the same word documents FINE from laptops or other desktop computers in the house. Thus I know that the documents aren't corrupted. I can also print .pdf documents fine from this computer. I think this problem started when my laser printer driver 'disappeared' and when I tried to reinstall it I got a spool-related error. I reinstalled the spool driver and then when I tried to print a .doc file I was unable to do so. The problem may most likely be linked to Office 2003 itself but I have tried options like deleting the data key and renaming the normal.dot template, all which have failed to alleviate the problem.

I think that is all the information I can offer to assist anyone trying to help me with this matter, and I hope that the problem can be fixed without me having to reformat or something like that.

Thank you in advance.

P.S Not sure if this will also come in handy but my OS is Windows XP Professional SP2.

In Office, On the Help menu there is a 'detect and repair' option. It wouldn't hurt to run that. This could also be a sign that the hard drive is going bad (loosing stuff here and there)...

Hi, I just purchased an used computer with Windows 7Home Premium x64, this is an HP Slimline s5610f. The problem that I have is with a Brother HL 2040 series printer. It gave me a really hard time to install the drivers that I downloaded from the Brother website I kept getting a "0x00000057" error and "could not find suitable driver for this printer" error. Finally I decided to take the driver folders for this printer from my wife's computer and copied them to my computer and put them in the drivers repository under System32 and was able to install the printer after that with no problems.

The problem that I have right now is that the printer won't print, even though it told me that the driver installation was successful.

1-the print button is grayed out
2-If I click "printer properties" it tells me that the drivers have not been installed and asks if I want to install them.
3-If I install the drivers at this prompt it tells me that the drivers have been successfully installed.
4-Now it lets me access the printer properties but when I click "print test page" either nothing happens or it tells me that it failed to print and access is denied
5-If i close printer properties and try to access it again it tells me that the printer drivers have not been installed.

I get the same results with the printer connected locally trough USB or on another computer through the network.

Have you gone out to HPs site and downloaded the drivers for Vista (if they are offered). I'm pretty sure both printers are supported by Vista using a driver supplied by Vista. Did you try deleting the printers drivers/software, rebooting and letting Vista find them one at a time? Now you might have to go out to HPs site to download features not supplied by a Vista driver but they should be easy enough to find on the HP site.

Hi All,

I dont know if i've got this in the right forum but i've got a WinXP Pro Machine so thought i'd try it here.

The problem is that my print queue seems to retain the print jobs although the print jobs have already been printed out (i've seen it retain jobs from 5 days ago). I happens from all sorts of programs.

My PC is acting a print server (ie, the printer is connected to my PC via Parallel and i have shared my install of this printer).

In the print queue, the status indicates "sent to printer" and Pages "x/x - eg 3/3" however the print jobs remains in the queue and do not disappear unless i manually do a "cancel". If i were to turn off and then on the PC, all these print jobs will print out again without any user interaction.

So, can anyone tell me if this is a driver issue or is it something to do with the printer or Parallel port configuration.

As far as i know, i've got "bi-directional support" selected but i'm still to find out what modes i've got parallel set to eg. EPP or ECP or both.

Any help would be great. thank you.

regards
Steve

Hi,

A short answer ...
Code:
ActiveSheet.PageSetup.CenterHeader = ActiveSheet.Name
A question though ... would it be somewhat effective to loop through all sheets in a file and do this? Also, how about looping through all files in a folder and doing this? Would it not be easier to do them all at once, or is this a 'one-shot deal'?

Also, btw, you can do this with LeftHeader, RightHeader, LeftFooter, CenterFooter & RightFooter. Other format attributes can also be added if desired.

I'm helping to develop a web application that uses iframes. On the main page (outside of all frames), we have a div that we use to display and print forms. We also have 2 nested iframes; the innermost iframe contains the main page content. When printing, we use extensive CSS and Javascript (contained in the outermost window) to hide everything except the print div.

When I use File > Print Preview, it always displays the correct preview; that is, the outermost window which contains the print div. Printing from the Print Preview works as it should. However, when I use File > Print, it seems to print whatever window has focus, not the entire page (outermost window). Therefore my print div doesn't get printed and all I get is a printout of whatever is currently onscreen. Why doesn't the print out from File > Print match what is shown in the print preview?

A related issue occurs when using JavaScript's window.print(). When I call window.print from within the print div, it prints as it should. But when I call parent.parent.window.print() from within the double-nested iframe, IE still only prints the window that has focus, not the outermost window (as shown by "parent.parent."). And since they just clicked on a button in the innermost frame, the innermost frame has focus, my print div doesn't print and all I get is a printout of whatever is currently onscreen. I have been using "parent.parent" for all other Javascript calls from the nested iframe to th... Read more

Alt + Print Screen captures the whole screen instead of the active window. The Alt key works normally in all other ways. The Print Screen key acts normally in all other ways. I do know how the print screen and alt + print screen works, so please don't explain its function; this is an actual software issue. This is issue does not involve citrix or remote desktop or any other software. I've searched every MS Knowledge base, forum, blog, site, help software, etc. and have found many people with similar problems, but no solutions.

How can I repair the Alt + Print Screen function?

Thank you,
Ryker Abel, MCSE

First time on the forum.

Our network administrator just updated my HP T9500 2.6 Ghz laptop to Win 7 w/ 8GB memory. Two questions.

1) the print dialog box opens and but stays in the background. If you have many windows open you don't even notice it pops up. How do you make the print dialog box to come to the foreground by default?
2) I miss the feature in my XP Pro windows explorer where I can add features such as "cut", "paste", "copy", on the menu bar. Can you do the same in Win 7?

A:WIN 7 print dialog box

Ha! I knew I wasn't the only person complaining about the pring dialog box appearing in the background printing in Win 7. Many other people complained about this also. And there is a solution. Check out the link below.

Howdy!
I have a client running WinXP sp3 and has an issue with PDF's:

Running Adobe Reader 9 he can open any PDF file without any problems, but when he attempts to print the thing it takes (minimum) over a minute for the Windows Print Dialog Box to come up. The document prints just fine from that point, it's just getting to that point...

I tried uninstalling, re-installing, running the Adobe repair option - nothing helped.

Drastic measure: I had him install Foxit Reader - Same results!

He can print any other files without a problem - just not PDF's.

A:PDF's and Print Dialog Box

NEVERMIND!

I got into the client's system via GoTo Meeting and deleted 2 printers that were no longer on his network. Apparently WinXP was so busy checking for all printers that it took forever to display the print dialog box.

Lesson Learned.

So this may seem like a weird question. I use a web based service that allows me to put together reports, forms, etc. I can select various forms and then click a print button and the bottom of the screen which spools the print jobs to my printer. The only problem is that I often need to print out 30,40, or 50 reports and since IE 6, a separate printer dialog box comes up for each report. I guess they are all sent as individual print jobs... can anyone think of anyway around this, either spooling all into one big print job to then be printed or a way to bypass the printer dialog box?

Below code works for IE (11,10) in Windows 7, but does not work in Windows 10.

var PrintCommand = '<OBJECT ID="PrintCommandObject" WIDTH=0 HEIGHT=0 ';
PrintCommand += 'CLASSID="CLSID:8856F961-340A-11D0-A96B-00C04FD705A2"></OBJECT>';
document.body.insertAdjacentHTML('beforeEnd', PrintCommand);
PrintCommandObject.ExecWB(6, 1); PrintCommandObject.outerHTML = "";
document.body.innerHTML = oldPage;

From below link looks like MS ripped out Active X from Windows 10.

Is there any alternative to this?

Hello,

I am using windows XP. I would like to disable the "Preferences" button on the Print dialog box. I only want my users to be able to select a printer and the number of copies. I was able to turn of the collate, selection, and print to file check box. I did this by setting the flags property before displaying the print dialog box. Apparently there is not a vbPrinterContstant to turn off the "Preferences" button.

Please help.

I assume you're using the CommonDialog control, correct? I think that you can look up the invidivual settings for the print function, pass them, then execute it. I'm not on a machine equipped with the IDE at the moment, but I'll look up on it and report back.

This is an issue when I am trying to type in a popup window. I type to realize nothing is appearing until I click on it.

I was able to temporarily fix this before by unlocking and locking the taskbar, but that is no longer fixing it.

I work at a public library and am in charge of updating and maintaining our technology. We have over 20 public access computers that are open to our patrons which they can use to print documents, amongst other things. We have a Xerox Workcentre 6605 and use CASSIE, software from Librarica, to control printing. Patrons need to print from their computer, click a confirmation box, and then ask the staff at the desk to release the prints from our manager computer.

Ever since updating to Reader 11, I occasionally see a print dialog pop up when printing a PDF that says the following:

"The default settings in Adobe Reader 11 may cause a color shift when printing PDF files. In addition, some black and white PDF documents may be printed using color and black inks and may be billed as color pages. [I assume this has something do with CASSIE, which determines the charges per print based on the ink color??]

Before you continue printing, Xerox recommends that you change Reader 11 to allow the printer to manage colors.

To change the Reader 11 setting, close this dialog box, click the 'Advanced' button at the bottom of the Print window, and check the option 'Let printer determine colors.'"

There are a couple of options available to our patrons at this point, including "Send my document anyway" and "Don't show this message again." Whatever option is set as the default sends documents as blank pages. Most of our patrons don't know what option to pick so... Read more

Just as a suggestion, do you have the authority to try a different PDF viewer ?  Say Foxit or PDF-Exchange viewer to see if you get the same problem there.

Hi,
I moved 2 Pc's and 2 Printers to a new location and added both printers to the PC that would be left on the most so they could print to the HP LJ1022NW or the HP Photosmart C3180.

This PC was originally connected directly to the C3180 and could print fine to the LJ1022 when is was connected to another PC and shared.

Once LJ1022 was installed on this main PC thats when the Print box went slow. I print alot of PDF documents and I also print from a database. these 2 take about 2 miniutes just to load the print dialog box.

So i uninstalled the printer and set it up again on the orther PC and shared it. but it made no difference. Printing in word seems to be fine.

Anyone have any ideas??

Hi, this is my first post on here, so sorry if this has been brought up.

I work as a graphic designer, and here at work, when I select either printer, I cannot see all the available setting in the dialog box. it won't allow me to scroll and make it larger where they would all be visible.

We re-installed the driver, but that didn't work, as it happens for every computer.

I'm computer literate, and somewhat savy, but even our IT person was unable to pinpoint the solution. Can anyone help?

I'd really appreciate it.

Tom

Whenever I print to the shared printer on my Windows 7 desktop, the print job will just sit in the print queue. If I stop and then start the print spooler, the job will print. It happens from an XP laptop. Print jobs sent from the local Windows 7 computer print just fine.
How can i solve this one ? :(

This issue with some particular laptop running windows Xp and windows 7 Home

A:Whenever I print to the shared printer he print job will just sit in the print queue

So, the Windows 7 Desktop has the printer physically attached to it and it's shared?
And the XP laptop is sharing the printer through the network? If I understand you correctly?
If so, on the XP Laptop, go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. Are there any devices with yellow flags? Or Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is there an Unknown Device? Or any listings for the printer? If so, right click it and Uninstall it. Now go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs uninstall any drivers or software for the printer. Now,go to Printers and Faxes, and if the printer icons is there, Right click the shared printer icon and Delete it. And Restart the computer. Now when the computer comes back up, go to the printer manufacturers support/download drivers site and type in the model# for the printer and download the driver for the printer for XP and install it. Now, go to Start/Run and type the computer name of the Windows 7 machine (ex) \\ComputerName and press enter. A window should open up with the shared drives on the 7 computer, with the shared printer. Right click the shared printer and choose Connect. This will add the printer to Printers and Faxes again. Right click this printer/Properties and print a Test Page.

Windows 7 pro, print dialog box shows default printer as last choice. How get it to the top so don't have to scroll down before click? Sometimes it will show up first if chosen just a while before, but not often.

A:default printer not first in print dialog box

if its the default printer it will already be selected and not need to be clicked on ?? or am I not understanding your issue correctly
I don't know of any way to alter this list other than possibly uninstalling and reinstalling printers but even then it may well go back to how it is, mine appear to be listed alphabetically

Hello folks,
I hope somebody can help me with this, because i don't want to have to reinstall XP (again!).

At some stage there has been a setting changed which means that the font size used in Print Preferences Dialogs and those "Would you like to send an error report to Microsoft" dialogs is absolutely huge.
Can't find anywhere to reset or adjust this at all.
I've tried expanding the whole font set from the XP disc and copying them into the Fonts folder, but no joy.

I've attached a screenshot so you can see what I mean.
Any help or suggestions would be great... I've tried every thing I can think of.

Thanks,
Ronan.

i dont want to save it, i want to print it!!! if i enlarge the box then wayyy down at the bottom theres a highlighted option to print where it says "print using system dialogue...(control + shift + P)", but i dont want that. is there a way to return my options up on top to "print" and not "save"?

Constant pop up window appears prompting me for an output file name. If I give it a valid name like "c:\test.txt" it creates the file but when I open it it is unreadable although there are a few English words like "This program must be run under Win32", "KERNEL32.DLL ExitProcess" and "USER32.DLL MessageBoxA". The rest is like this "o[email protected]". I don't know which program is asking for this and I can't figure out which Process it is through Task Manager. Has anyone had this problem? I am using Windows XP Home.
Thanks.
