I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,My Lenovo laptop is not starting. When I press the power button the Lenovo logo appears. After that there is an error message and the laptop prepares for automatic repair. But as the repair screen comes up nothing happens thereafter. The black screen remains. Even tried reinstalling windows but after selecting the usb drive for booting nothing happens. The same black screen remains. Does anyone knows the issue?

I read other posts and none specifically addressed this for the 920 and the use of what is actually a good Lenovo config tool seems to be poorly documented.   I would think it would be the same for any Yoga model with Windows 10 and Lenovo Vantage installed.   I can't seem to find a version for Vantage, so hopefully this works on all versions.    1) Find and open Lenovo Vantage on your machine (use Cortana if needed).   This is the Responsive view and yours may look different...don't worry, options are the same.  Click on Hardware settings  2)  Click on Input (again, responsive view...whatever view you have should have this button labeled the same)  3)  This will open the Hardware Setting - Input UI.   Under 'Function Keys' click on the one that is labeled 'F1-F12' (should look like below, highlighted in blue) to make that the the Function the default setting for those keys...to further clarify: it will now be a Function Key (F1-F12) by default.    With this change, you will press the FN+ one of the function key for the Hot Key option (e.g. FN+F1=mute/unmute, FN+F2=volume down, etc.)     4)  Your change is already saved, so you can now X-out (click X in the upper right) of the pop-up windows created by that were created

Product key is stored in BIOS, so there is no need to use any app to read it.Download a tool to create bootable media from Microsoft website and install Windows 8.1 using it:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8 Moreover at first, you may try to restore your Windows 10 to factory state (do a backup of all important data first). Go to Settings -> Recovery -> Reset this PC and select Remove everything.

Hi, I decided to upgrade my Lenovo z500 with SSD and I have few questions. My idea is, that I want to replace my HDD with SSD and HDD put into second hard bay(I will remove my CD/DVD ROM). And my idea is: First put SSD and HDD on planed places. Second, do clone of my HDD and put it on SSD ( I downloaded Seagate DiscWizard.)  Then I want to delete all programs what I dont need on SSD ( I want to have OS, anti virus programs and staff like that on SSD) and also I want to delete OS from HDD and few programs what should be on SSD. And my questin is. Is it possible to do it this way ? If yes what problems might arise or what should I be aware of?  If someone knows, how to do this through better way. Leave comment with some discription. I will appreciate all advices and tips.  Thanks.

A:Lenovo Z500: Replace HDD with SSD

hi Noble,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

The Lenovo Z500's HDD can be upgraded to an SSD drive but it's a bit tricky to replace (see page 41 on the hardware maintenance manual on how to replace the HDD).

Getting an SSD drive will greatly speed overall performance like the 2.5 SATA III SSD Vertex 4, and especially if you make it as a primary drive and install the Operating System and frequently accessed softwares / files there. You can still use the 2.5 SATA HDD by using an external 2.5 SATA enclosure or sacrifice your ODD by putting the HDD there by getting a 9.55mm HDD Caddy (you can get a 9.5mm ODD Enclosure to still use your ODD).

Hope this helps.

Hello, I started having an issue with my z500 laptop and here is how it went. First I updated my laptop from Windows 8 to 8.1, then after the update was finalizied I shut my laptop down, then next day I woke up and attempted to use my laptop it used to open but the screen was fully blank. I can hear the fans moving and the laptop was on but it had no cursor and the screen seemed off. I read online that you had to connect it to a computer and manually alter the settings there, my computer was not functioning that time so I decided to leave it till later and use this laptop as an alternative. 3 weeks passed and when I attempted to open it it did not respond at all. No fans running, no blinking, nothing at all, dead. I tried to charge it it still didn't work, I left it overnight charging still nothing. I opened up the laptop removed my battery and put it back in after 1 minute still no difference. I've literally removed my battery 3 times and tried all I can to fix the laptop yet it isn't even charging. I am thinking this could be because I haven't installed the Battery manager or battery firmware for Lenovo when updating to 8.1 but I am not sure. Please help me open my laptop I have a lot of work there that can't be thrown away. Thanks!

A:Lenovo laptop z500 not working

Does holding the OneKey recovery button work? I think you'll need to perform a battery firmware but for that you need to boot the computer. Also, try draining the residue power. To do this, simply hold down the power button for 30 seconds

For two weeks now I m experiencing a wifi problem on my Z500. Everytime the wifi works fine for two or three days, and then at a random moment all my connections disappear, and the router to which I am connected is just 1 bar strong (Router is in my room). As I delete the driver from the Qualcomm adapter in Device Manager and a new driver on the Lenovo website download it works fine again for a couple of days. At least 15 connections are available. Again I can use the wifi for two or three days and then the problem occurs again. Unfortunately I can t fix it anymore by downloading just a new driver. I tried dozen drivers. The one from Lenovo does not work, the one from Qualcomm does not work. Everytime the wifi works for a day or two, and then something happens and all my connections disappear, and the router in my room is just 1 bar strong. I ve got this laptop three years now, and never had any problem with the wifi. Two weeks ago I did a lot of Windows Updates and then the problem started. System recovery does not work on my laptop either (In safe mode without virusscanner), so that can t fix the problem as well.. Technical Details: - Lenovo IdeaPad Z500 - Windows 8.1 (64 bit) - Wifi Adapter: Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG I hope you guys can help me..

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

There is a setting in lenovo energy management which limits the battery charge limt to 60% and there after stop charging tilll battery level falls down to around 55%. This is the battery protection mode(In some laptop it is optimize for battery life or similar). Just open energy management and go to battery settings by clicking the icon. Then select the mode and voila!!

Hi, From the posts I've already read I know this is a common issue. However, none of the suggested solutions helped yet, that's why I'm writing this post.Windows 10, originally used to be Windows 8 which was later updated to Windows 8.1 when the update came out. Have been having the issue either from Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. The issue is, as the topic says: my screen brightness is stuck on either the brightest or the dimmest (usually the latter one). The brightness keys won't work whatsoever. The only way I can switch brightness is via the display parameters - from one extreme to the other. When I adjust the brightness in Settings > Display, either it's blasting my eyes with nuclear bomb brightness or it's darker than in coal mines, regardless of what brightness I choose (it can be set on brightness 2 out of 100, but the screen will still shine on max). The issue is definitelly not related to the display itself, since it has recently been changed, but the problem has remained.  The means I tried to fix the issue are:1. Installing all kinds of drivers. Old ones, new ones, chipset ones, Intel HD Graphics 4000 ones, NVidia ones, etc. Won't help, the issue still remains.2. Modifying the Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver as been advised (changing the Graphics/igdlh64.inf  PwrCons_IVB_AddSwSettings from F000 to F900). Did not help either. (I must add that for older, "original" drivers I didn't even manage to find the needed file. Driver version 9.17.10.2932... Read more

Even if I try to load USB windows tool (to install new os) it doesn't work. I also tried to install Ubuntu unsuccessfully. I searched on the web all the possible solutions. I temporary removed the battery, ac adapter and hold the power button for 30 secs, but nothing. I also read to remove the cmos battery but I can't locate it in my IdeaPad z500. I also searched on the hardware maintainance pdf but there is nothing about that. I also removed ssd and new ram  with old components but it's still the same. I don't know what to do know, please help me!! I have tried the hard reset of pressing the button every 1 second 10 times and then holding the power button for 30 seconds.I have also replaced the charging cable inside the laptop and also used a spare charger.  Disconnecting the battery does not resolve the issue eitherWhen plugging in the charger, the battery light does not light up as well.Is there any solution to this? Thanks!

HelloI recently upgraded my windows from version 8.1 to 10And I think it's not bad, but a bit later than 8.1 booting, it's getting much faster in Windows before. But now it's a little slowIt's not a problem in running programs, but I feel this laptop is not built for Windows 10. Will there be a problem?I feel a little pressure on the laptop hardware. Is it better to go back to the previous version? It's also important to add that all drivers are safe and fully installed without problems (even the brightness problem does not exist for me)

It's hard to tell, without knowing your laptop's specs. Could you share you CPU model, how much RAM do you have and what SSD/HDD model you use?
