2019 X1 Carbon EXTREME, wont charge over USB C

Q: 2019 X1 Carbon EXTREME, wont charge over USB C

Hi guys, So i have upgarded to the X1 Extreme from my 6th Gen X1 Carbon. One thing i did not consider was the 135W charger vs 65w USB c charger that you get on the X1 6G. Problem i have is when i fly long haul the normal max wattage of plane seats is 90W. I took an 86W Apple USB C charger with me recently (that i know works on that plane on my old 15" USBC MBP) and this didnt work on the X1. Not any sign of even being plugged in but not charging. Is there a BIOS setting maybe to not allow USB C Charging. Could this be the case?? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone, I read that in late summer 2019 the x1 carbon and the x1 extreme are going to get a hardware update.  Was wondering if the extreme would have a GPU update in the works.  Thinking for long term use, that's why I ask.  Hoping for something around a 1070.  Thanks everyone.

Hello, beside of the problem described in docking station issue I also have a serious problem using Visual Studio 2019. I'm using the X1 Extreme with 3 external monitors connected to the ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock 230W (40AN0230EU). When setting the scaling factor of Windows 10 higher than 100% Visual Studio will not work correctly on the external monitors. The cursor indicating the edit position while editing file names in the project explorer is not visible. Same when creating new files. So I never know on what position I'm currently editing or deleting. Same when creating new files. I need to move the 'new file' window to the notebook screen to see the cursor / current edit position. The window to define the start project does also not work correctly. I use multiple start projects and I can not use the combo boxes to define the actions with the mouse. If I use the keyboard to handle the combo boxes the combo box selection window opens on a wrong position. It works only when moving the window again to the notebook screen. This issues don't happen on a much cheaper Lenovo notebook used by another developer. The NVidia and all other drivers are up to date. And there is another issue:I have 3 external screens:1.) 2560x14402.) 2560x14403.) 1920x1200I cannot set the resolution of the 3rd monitor to 1920x1200. I have it running with 1920x1080. This will result in a blurred screen. This issue will force me to buy a new monitor if it cannot be fix... Read more

Does anyone have Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon running on the latest variant of the Thinkpad X1 Extreme? I currently run various flavours of Linux as virtual machines under Parallels Desktop on an aged Macbook Pro, but I want to break out of the Apple walled garden and run Linux natively as my OS of choice. At the moment my likely choice of new laptop is this year's model of X1 Extreme - sometimes called the X1 Extreme Gen2 I really like Mint, but I'm wary of buying the laptop without having first had it confirmed that Mint will run on it without problems.  I know the 'old' X1 Extreme is certified for Linux where it is purchased as a Linux system, but I haven't seen anything about the later version being similarly certified. Does anyone have any experience of attempting a Mint installation on this system? Thanks, Mike

Very excited for the Lenovo X1 Extreme Gen 2! Everywhere online says July 2019 is the Lenovo X1 Extreme Gen 2 release date, but seeings as it's 7/5 today, does anyone know when that will be exactly? Also, it has an asterisk by the i9 processor saying "Coming Soon", I hope this doesn't mean it won't be available upon initial release because I want to get a beast of a machine and I don't want to have to wait for the i9. Just in case I do, any thoughts between the performance gain of the i9 over the top-spec'd i7? Some have said the i9 may not offer that much of an advantage due to the thermal throttling. One last question: I want to order it with 64GB of ram. I'm a power user with a lot of software/tabs open and running Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, etc... but I'm not really a video editor or gamer. So my question is: will having 64GB of ram be worth it, or is it overkill? Would I be better served with just 32GB ram?

Hi, Just been using my new X1 Carbon 2019 for few days so far, and found that when my headphone is pluged in, the sound is both out from computer and the headphone at the same time. Is there a issue with my laptop please? Shouldn't the laptop auto detect the device and play from the correct channel?A bit sad about the experience I had and would like to fix this issue asap. Thanks.

I just got my X1C7 and before letting it boot into windows the first time I want to make a factory image of it to keep.  I've done this with all my provious computers including X1C6.  I have the latest updated Acronis 2019 installed on another computer and made the boot madia on a USB stick and it boots and works in my X1C6 but it hangs on my X1C7.   So my real question here is about other options to have a "factory image" should I ever need to start all over.  I don't want to just install Win 10 and get the correct drivers, I want a restorable image of it the way it came with the background, etc all there.  Does the method described here do that using something in the recovery partition and will that image it makes be just like it was or will that be a more generic windows install?  What are the other options that would give me a true factory image?  I"m not going to go through the windows setup and use it until I know what will and won't work. This is the one I'm referring to:  https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht117511

A:Can't get X1 Carbon 7th Gen to boot Acronis True Image 2019

The procedure linked will give you a flash drive capable of restoring the laptop to its state when you took it out of the box.  It isn't a generic Win install, it's everything as shipped.

There is one exception: if you allow the laptop to connect to the internet during OOBE it _may_ update Windows components.  In that case the recovery drive you make will include the updated Win stuff - and possibly some updated Lenovo components if they're included in that OOBE update.  Same possibility if you delay making that recovery drive long enough that Windows Update runs in the background.

FYI: there isn't a "recovery partition" in the sense that your're probably thinking of - and the way it was in the old days.  The recovery partition may exist, but it contains bootable tools, not a recovery image.  The modern machines use MS's "PBR - push button recovery" that incorporates the recovery components in C: along with the OS.  That's how/why a recovery drive ends up including updated components.  Not sure that's an advantage...

As an aside: I haven't run into bootability issues with Acronis rescue media - as long as it was UEFI-bootable.  Any chance your C6 is booting it in legacy mode?  (Full disclosure: I haven't tested on a C7)

Z.

Lenovo - X1C7 - X1 Carbon 7th Generation 2019 -  Pre-Order Start and Delivery Dates? Hi there! I am in the market to update my X1 Carbon 1st Gen(!) to the current, upcoming X1 Carbon 7th Gen (X1C7). Obviously, the only available option currently (as of January 28, 2019) on Lenovo.com is the X1 Carbon 6th Gen.May I ask if anyone knows when pre-order will begin and when delivery will start please?I saw the initial press announcement at CES that "delivery is June 2019", though that is very broad and doesn't differentiate between pre-order start date and actual delivery date.Thank you in advance.

A:Lenovo - X1C7 - X1 Carbon 7th Generation 2019 - Pre-Order Start and Delivery Dates?

Typically, Lenovo puts the laptops up for sale when they're ready to ship. So probably late May or early June would be when you can pre-order one, with delivery in June as well.

Hope that helps.

Can the new x1 extreme gen 2 be charged from the usb-c connection to a 4k monitor, for example, the hp z27 discussed in this story https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-4k-monitors/ ? What I mean is no separate power cable is needed, just the usb-c cable connecting the laptop to the monitor. The wirecutter review says this is one of the nice features of the HP z27 monitor.

I am using a Lenova Yoga 920 laptop. These problems go away after rebooting the computer, but then re-emerge after using the computer for a while, and persist until I reboot again. It is getting very irritating, and interfering with my work.  - A mysterious floating white circle appeared on my desktop background. I cannot click on or interact with it, and changing the desktop background does not remove the circle. Then, a second circle appeared. Now, there is also a floating white rectangle. The rectangle poses the biggest issue, because it remains on TOP of whatever other windows I have open, constantly obstructing part of my screen unless I reboot the computer. The circles remain on the desktop background. I have attached a picture of these weird white artifacts on my display. Things I have already tried:- Installing all available Windows patches and updates- Updating graphics driver- Checking/unchecking auto-brightness settings

Hello!I have another problem with my X1 -- which has been a huge disappointment so far.I travel pretty often and when I connect the power cord to my Lenovo X1 on an airplane, the laptop does not charge. The icon of the battery charging from the cord goes  on and off constantly. When opening Lenovo Vantage, it says that the power cable is connected for 2 seconds or so, then it says that the power cable 65w is connected for 2 seconds, and  then says that the cord is  connected but not charging for other 2 seconds and the it start the loop again.   I have tried to enable/disable windows airplane mode and/or Lenovo airplane power mode (from the Lenovo Vantage) but it did not affect the results. I also tried any possible combination between the two (both on, one off and the other on, "enable auto detection" on and off, etc). This happens on different airplanes of different airlines (British Airways and United) ? so it is not an airplane issue. What to do?ah, I tired to hibernate the laptop and then charge it, but It does not charge even when hibernated Thanks

Hey guys, I've dug through all of the previous posts about charging issues with the X1. Apparently there are many, but none of the solutions seem to work for me. When I plug in the AC adapter, the power button blinks, and the red LED does as well. I'm assuming the charger is working fine. But when I turn on the laptop, the battery is not charging. Windows doesn't show it as charging, nor charges when it is shut off. All signs look like its charging but simply is not. Has anyone ran into this issue? All of the posts have to do with the charge staying at a float, or windows saying it is charging but is not. So far i've 1. Done the bios battery reset2. opened up the laptop and disconnected the battery / reconnected3. Pressed the reset button4. installed the power management app Any other ideas? Please help! Thanks.

I apologize if this is buried somewhere on the forum. I searched for hours, really, but could not find anything exactly relating to this. After months of "Upgrade to Windows 10" pop ups I finally did it. On Windows 7 I was able to change my battery capacity to 100% before I left for a business trip then change it back when I returned home. Now I can't find where to do that and it won't charge above 46%. I've tried downloading the Lenovo Power Manager as one post suggested but it doens't have the seperate "Power" menu item as the instructions displayed. I've tried uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery as another post suggested but that didn't help either.I have this option after upgrading my Ultrabook Yoga 2 to Windows 10. The Enegery Manager remained loaded. I simply want the same control over my battery on my X1 as I have on my Yoga. Can anyone help me?Thanking all of you in advance,Clare

A:p53(20QN) and x1 carbon extreme 2nd gen(20QV) problems

If you have multiple devices of the same model that behave differently, likely differences in software explain the different behavior. You could try imaging a device that has no issues and applying that image to another one that has. As to the webcam issues, maybe worth to test them when plugged into a different USB port (for example, the laptop built-in ports). You could also take a look at the device id of these webcams and looking for a driver online, based on the device id. You could also test this setup with another webcam.

Hi, I purchased the X1 Carbon Yoga approximately 6 months ago and i must say I'm highly disappointed. For a flagship laptop the battery life is appalling, with my device struggling to get 4 hours with a moderate load of browsing and office productivity and at 60% brightness well shy of the 10+ hours promised and well under any reasonable measure for an ultrabook. Ive once had the battery replaced as the device originally struggled to even give me 2 hours under battery and when i apply a light pressure to the keyboard "rest" it makes a lovely grinding noise.. On paper this is a fantatsic device OLED monitor, 360 degree screen but living with it is terrible. The fingerprint scanner often doesnt pick up my finger and requires some time to figure it out and the carbon fibre gets so DIRTY. Its near impossible to keep it clean without the oils from your fingers staining it.  I'm at a loss what to do as i believe this device just cant be improved or fixed. It's just terrible at a price point of over $3,000. akooch

I purchased the X1 Carbon Extreme in April 2019 (not sure which generation that is....6th?) and the two USB ports are very loose.  It arrived in this condition, and barely touching the laptop will cause anything that's plugged in to disconnect.  Is this problem common for this model? I should be able to get it fixed under warranty once I get that sorted out.  I accidentally purchased 5 yr depot warrant instead of onsite, which they are helping me correct.

Hello,As the title of the post suggests, I have a 3rd gen X1 Carbon Yoga (still under warranty) and yesterday the following happened. This is the second time since I have owned it. I had used the battery down to about 20% and turned it off. I then plugged in the charger and the red i dot on the ThinkPad logo blinked a couple times. But! The charge light didn't light up ... right away at least.I waited about 30 sec, and then turned the laptop on to see if it showed as charging. As soon as I pushed the power button, the charge light came on instantly. I saw that it said "plugged in, charging" on the battery icon, so I powered down. The charge light remained on. I left it plugged in all night. And when I looked at it the next morning, the charge light was still on.?? I powered on, and to my dismay, the laptop hadn't charged at all! But it said "plugged in, charging" on the battery icon again. So, I powered down and waited.  Within about 30 minutes, the charge was up to the 80% I have the charge capped at through the Lenovo Power Manager. What could cause that?Has anyone here experienced this sequence of events before?

I bought an x1 carbon 4th gen a few years ago. While its had its problems, overall I've enjoyed the computer - although I wish I didn't do the custom build. In the last year or so, I've had extreme cursor jumping when pressure is applied to the bottom or top of the keyboard, especially if its not on flat surfaces. It gets so bad that it gets stuck in corners and I cannot move it at all. the only way to move it was to apply slight bending pressure to the whole bottom half or do a sleep/restart. I read somewhere that it could be a battery swelling issue that interferes with the touchpad sensor in the middle of the keyboard. I brushed it off and hoped an update would fix it. Several updates later it did not and actually only got worse. By chance, I tried turning of the touchpad function and miraculously, the cursor does not jump anymore, meaning it is a software issue. I've found a few other threads with the exact same issue but no responses let alone no solutions. It is really annoying because I when the whole touchpad is toggled off, the trackpoint AND the two trackpad buttons at the top are turned off. I got used to those functions, especially the two left/right buttons, so it sucks not being able to use them. I am wondering if I can get a refund or a new laptop, because as a lenovo user its unaccetable to pay the price you do for an x1 just to get mediocre results. Please help me find a solution, any advice is appreciated

(to disable intel's power states) No matter what I do this is what I get every time I calculate a workbook. Any thoughts and suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.  (FYI office ambient temps are 72F and the computer gets more than adequate air flow.)

System recovery doesn't work as well. Also, tried to look in BIOS settings, but unfortunetly couldn't found anything that would help.I don't think it is a charger problem becouse it is quite new, and the problem appeared just after BIOS update.I have 50% battery left and don't know what to do when it will be gone to 0 .I will add that both usb-c ports don't work. Can't test them with external storege, becouse i have none.Do You have any ideas? Would appreciate some solutions!

Hi, My laptop was not charge, I was not able to check the percentage of the battery & all of a sudden it shut down. I cant even remember if I shut it down or it shut down on its own, because I went to th rest room.. Few hours later I plugged it in the charger but t seems like it's not charging and then i tried to turn it on but its still not working. I need Help ASAP :-(

A:LAPTOP WONT CHARGE AND WONT TURN ON

It would help if you posted the product number or complete product name. You have only identified the notebook model series that it came from and that is not quite specific enough. Identify it and I will be able to give you instructions on performing a hard reset of your notebook. Is it still in warranty?Check your warranty status Here. Does the power\charge LED light up when a power adapter is connected to it?

Do you know about the Microsoft Release for CVE-2019-0708 | Remote Desktop Services Remote Code Execution Vulnerability this May 14, 2019?

Are the security updates for this considered emergency and out-of-band? Please advise.

Thank you.

I have an HP dv5. i've had it for 2 yrs and its been wonderful. basically, ive been stupid and kept my laptop plugged in constantly except for the occasional trip somewhere.

about a month ago it wouldnt charge. the light next to where the ac adaptor plugs in always lit up before telling me the computer registered that it was being charged. now my laptops completely dead because the light next to the ac plug in wont light up. i dont know if the problem is internal or if i need a new battery or adapter.

i'd like to go the cheapest route possible because i'm a college girl and am pretty much broke. lol. im sure you all know what thats like.

HELP ME PLEASE!!!

A:My laptop wont charge!!! =(

It could be the charger, replacements not that expensive (try to stay away from universal adapters, they are often really poor quality)

It could be the DC socket (the hole where you put the charger in) Does it wiggle around a lot when you put the charger in?
has it still got the PIN inside that hole? Does it look damaged?

Also
Try taking the battery out and plugging the charger in - see if that fixes it? It may be a faulty battery causing the issue.

Let me know. I will advise
