How to Open Word Document in Internet Explorer 11 Without Being Asked to Save It

Q: How to Open Word Document in Internet Explorer 11 Without Being Asked to Save It

Our company uses ownCloud. To access our ownCloud, we use Internet Explorer 11. Inside our ownCloud there are documents created and shared among users. When I click a Word document, a pop-message appear -
"Do you want to save abc.docx (567 KB) from xxxxowncloud? Save Cancel
How can I open the document that would launch Word automatically without getting this pop-up message?

Thank you.

I've been coping various documents (created by me) into new Word folders. Next I tried to save, rename or merge them. Word tells me I can't do that because the file is already open even when it's not. I've had little hiccups with Word before but this is a new one and I'm at a loss. Can anyone give me a clue as to where I might look to solve the problem? Here's a screenshot of the message.

I'm running Win7 with MalwayBytes and Microsoft Security Essentials. I might add I've never had this problem before.

I am running XP and Word 2000 and Nortons. Word will crash if you leave the document open for a while (there is no specific time frame) and then select close (icon). The error - Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. The details are: AppName: winword.exe
Modname: kernel32.dll
modvers: 5.1.26002180
offset 0001eb33

This has pretty much happened since I got this laptop. I have reformatted and reinstalled everything (due to another problem) and still have the same problem with word. I have used the same CD on other computers to install word and they do not have the same problem.

I use a variety of templates and plain documents in my work and can not pin point it to one template.

If you leave Word open with a document (no matter what size) and come back to it later this is when the problem happens. I started to get around it my saving first then closing, but this no longer works. The save completes and then I select Close and this is when it happens - you get the dreaded pause and then you hear the whirl of the computer and then you get the Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. Firstly I could put up with it but is now just a nusiance.

I work at a small non-profit and we have updated two computers with new computers running Windows 7. We use MS Word 2003. I have checked all threads on forum related to this issue, but nothing seems to correct our problem. I would be grateful for any help.

Description of issue: With a Word document open, one should be able to click "File" > "Send To" > Mail Recipient As Attachment", or any of the other mail options, and have the email composition window of Thunderbird pop up. What happens is that Word is attempting to send the attachment via Windows Live Mail. The computer basically freezes. If you try and abort or get out of Word, and error pops up stating you can't close Word until the email has been sent. Finally, you have to force a shut down of the computer.

Internet Explorer shows Thunderbird as default email client. I have check all of the other obvious places for setting the default email client, but I can't seem to find a conflict anywhere on the computer showing Windows Live Email as default client.

As a side note, this employee was using Outlook Express as their email client prior to the computer upgrade and all setting were imported into Windows Live Mail, which was initially used. The employee did not like Windows Live Mail, so I installed Thunderbird. It is used as the default email client and the only issue has been with Word. Additionally, I know that the document could be sent from Windows Explorer by right-cli... Read more

Hello everyone!
Last night I installed Bitcomet (latest version). Well I'm done using it and I uninstalled it via programs and features. Then I rebooted. Now when I find a file on Internet explorer 7 (any kind of file really) that I want to save or open, nothing happens.

If I click on a file to download the usual Windows Prompt opens and asks me to Save/Open/Cancel and if I click Open or Save, nothing happens. This use to work fine before I installed BitComet.

I figured out the problem. When you install bit comment it ties itself to I.E. browser extension during the install. So it kinda becomes the download manager for I.E. So I need to figure out how to set this back to default since I uninstalled Bitcomet.
I set programs to default. I looked in file extensions and that looks normal. Crap this sucks!
Any ideas?

A:Internet Explorer Save/Open Function

You could try opening Internet Options in Control Panel. Click on the Programs tab and select Manage Add-Ons. It is possible that removing BitComet did not remove the reference within Internet Explorer.
Other than that may be worth checking your File Associations and make sure BitComet is not set as the default application for opening specific file extensions.

I never could download mp3 file from one website, I could just listen to it with quicktime. When I doubleclicked on it - a new ie window opened and there was this line (guicktime) and I could just hear it, not download or save...I thought always that they made so intentionaly but yesterday I saw my gf how she used her laptop and easily downloaded it with winamp..no problems!

And I got so very mad, that I uninstalled quicktime in one minute, but that didn't solve the problem. I restarted and nothing. The only difference was that I now couldn't also listen to it...nothing! - when I doubleclicked on the mp3 I got a new webpage opened and nothing...before I could atleast hear it with quicktime..

I read many things about winamp, and how you must select types of files in settings of winamp, and also folder options in my computer...tell which file is opened with which program..I did all of it. I also activated winamp agent who guards so no other application takes over the files you set for winamp to handle. But that did nothing.
Then I vasted a lot of time with ie settings...nothing..

And then I remembered from my amateur experience - I looked for whatever audio program I had on my pc - I found also realplayer and windows media player..I made sure that they dont control no type of files. It didn't help. After that I decided to uninstall also realplayer, soon I discovered I can not.. Read all of instructions about unninstal and I couldn't. Then I remembered a... Read more

I'm hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction with what appears to be a problem with Word.

I have a Lotus Notes application that stores a lot of information, and part of that is output to a word document for printing. A user opens a document in Lotus Notes, presses a button and a Word document is created with the relevant information in it. It does this by getting Notes to launch a Word template file with the layout how we want it, and passing an XML file with all the required values from Notes so that a VBA function in the Word template can read this information in. It's quite a convoluted way of doing things I'll agree, but I am just working with a a system that was developed a long time ago and in most cases it works well.

When the user is done making any changes to the Word document, there is a macro button in Word that they press to mark the document complete. This makes the document readonly, sets a few custom properties and then saves the document.

In most cases, if you were to run through the process, everything works fine. Sometimes however, a small number of users are finding that their work isn't saved. If for example they launch a new word document, make changes and then close word, then go back to that document and make more changes before pressing the Complete button in Word, they find that the next time they go to the document it's in the state before their most recent changes, which are lost.

Hi all,

I'm not entirely sure if these problems are related. My initial problem was that I have been unable to open, run or save files from my internet browser (Internet Explorer, I think version 7) for the past week. For example, when I try to open an email attachment the dialogue box appears asking me to save/open etc. Regardless of which I choose it will download but then not open or save to the destination. The same scenario happens for forum attachments and program downloads irrespective of file type.

Some internet searching found that most people were able to fix this problem by uninstalling AVG anti-virus software. This is when I became aware of my second problem. My AVG Free 8.0 started asking me for a licence number at approximately the same time as the first problem started. When I try to uninstall AVG Free 8.0 I get the following error:

Local machine: installation failed
Error: Action failed for file avi7.avg: creating backup....
Error 0x80070020 %DESTINATION% = "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Avg\avi7.avg.install_backup", %SOURCE% = "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Avg\avi7.avg"
Error 0x80004004

Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a way to avoid this error message when uninstalling AVG Free 8.0 that did not require me to download another small program ( AVG remover tool ?). I've tried checking different combinations of options when uninstalling all to no avail.

Unfortunately I don't have 'Hijack This' ... Read more

A friend of mine has MS Word 2003 and though it always used to work, a couple of days ago, it simply began to refuse to save anything. She is typing something for school, and when she tried to save the document, the "save" dialog box disappears for a second, then pops back up.......nothing else can work, of course, so long as that box is there........she tries repeatedly to save it, but it will disappear and reappear immediately each time. The only way she can do anything is to remove the name in the "name" area and then just click on the "x" at the top right of the dialog box. At that point, everything she's typed disappears and the MS Word page is blank again.

I've never heard of such a thing, but I'm not real familiar with the Office products. Does anyone have any idea what is going on and how to fix this?

Is there a way to get Word 2000 to save the printer settings in with the saved document?

Example: My favorite word processor, Lotus Word Pro, will save such things as which pages were printed last, whether it was printed duplex or normal, and which printer it was printed to. So, if I open the document, print it to my HP5 in duplex mode and then save the document, the next time I open and print that document, it has those same settings already set.

Two people use my computer, Nathan and Michael.  Both are Administrators.  When Nathan is logged on his Word 2003 documents are saved in:
C:\...Nathan\Documents.  When Michael is logged on his Word 2003 documents are also saved in:  C:\Nathan\Documents.  Obviously, the way it should work is Nathan's Word documents should be saved under his log-in and Michael's documents should be saved under Michael's log-in.  I can't make that happen.  Here's what I've tried so far:
I go to Control Panel, Tools, Options, File Locations.  When I click Modify I can indicate a different folder for saving Word documents, but I can't change the location "Nathan."  Also, any change I make just adds the new extension to the existing.  Example:
C..\Nathan\Documents    Modified to:  C..\Nathan\Documents\Documents, etc.  Whatever I choose is added onto the existing location
I hope I've explained this clearly.  Any Word 2003 experts out there who can help on this one?  It's really got me puzzled.  Thanks in advance.

A:Changing save document location in Word 2003

the first question that ' you cannot change the location " Nathan"' , do you log out when you change the location under Michael adminstrator.
As for another question, did you try with another file name. I mean you can try with different file name, like C..\Nathan\Documents\Tutorial

Need help trying to save a word 2007 document. Am running Windows Vista. I have been working on this document for the past couple of days, a high school maths investigation with lots of equations and graphs copied over from 'Autograph' a 3d graphing software. I have been able to save it with ease with all this stuff on it until an hour ago. When I press CTRL+S it opens up the save as box (even though i've already saved it before). Then when i press save in this dialog box the box closes for a half a second before opening again without me pressing anything. I do it again and again and notice the little loading bar that tells you it's saving in the bottom right hand corner of the document gets stuck and then stops when the box opens up again. I've tried to rename it and this doesn't work. i copied it into an old word document and then saved that document and that document wouldn't save either. i got rid of it off that document and the old document saved perfectly. I closed it just to check it was actually not saving and it isn't. Is there something wrong with my document? or is it word? please help!

Hi, I think many has this problem as I found it in other forums without clear response. Sometimes my Internet Explorer 9 does not like Adobe Reader 9. So I open a document pdf which has no security issue, and I just click on the save a copy icon. The icon responds with a virtual click. And that's it. Does not appear the radiobox where I can chose where and how to save. Nothing happens. And I can't find the downloaded pdf in any temporary folders either (I can index system folders and do a search there). So I have to go to another computer where I do the same in Firefox and it works, I can save the pdf file. But this is not OK that I have to use someone else's computer. I just wonder why these intelligent guys who create IE and AR can not make something that works? And since years this problem has been existing. Any idea how to patch it? Cheers and happy new year !

A:Save a copy of a PDF document open in IE9 does not do anything

In IE9, enable the classic menu-bar which is disabled by default.

Now when you open a PDF in IE9 via the Adobe Reader plugin, just click File >> Save as. It will save it as a PDF file with a default filename.

Word document too big and cannot open what can i do recover the work?

A:word document too big and cannot open.

I moved the thread from Windows 7 to Business Applications.

I think that anybody trying to help is going to want to know from where the file came, whether it is .doc or .docx, its size, and with what application(s) you tried to open it.

I haven't had any problems opening word documents using wordpad before. Any clues on what's wrong or possibly another way to open the document?

A:can't open a word document

It would probably depend on what is in the document you are trying to open. If it has any background macros or code, WordPad may be incapable of opening it.

Do you know anything about the doc?

Hi All,

I work on a web application that has Excel and Word documents in it.

At the moment when a user opens these documents in IE9 they get presented with a dialog box asking:

What do you want to do with "filename"?

The user is presented with Open, Save and Save As as the options.

Unlike previous versions of IE there is no check box to tick to remember the user's choice so it comes up every time.

I really need to get rid to this box. Does anyone know how to disable it?

A:How to get Excel and Word documents to open without the Open,Save,SaveAs box opening

I received a document in Works and when I tried to open it in my Word, I got the message, "Word cannot start the converter Works 632.cnv.

I went to Google and asked the question and tried several times to get some understandable result but to no avail. When I was directed to the Microsoft Download site it said at the top, in effect, that they couldn't help me.

Can you?
