Computer will not remember id's or passwords

Q: Computer will not remember id's or passwords

I am running Windows xp and Internet Explorer. Recently my computer would no longer remember any ids or passwords. Can you help?

Preferred Solution: Computer will not remember id's or passwords

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Computer will not remember id's or passwords

I assume you are referring to web site IDs and passwords. Check your IE security and privacy settings, whch may need to be adjusted.

W7 with IE9 will not prompt me to remember passwords like it used to. Have checked remember option under tools/internet options/content but no better. Any help?

A:IE9 won't remember passwords

The "remember" option has no effect on whether or not you get a "save password?" prompt in IE.

Internet Options > Content (tab).
In the ?Autocomplete? section, click on "Settings".
In the dialog box, tick the check-box for "User names & passwords on forms"
Under that, tick the check-box for "Ask me before saving passwords"
Click 'OK'.

Bear in mind that this feature of IE does not work on some websites that require log-in.

I don't use that feature anyway. Most websites have their own "remember me" option of their own which plants a cookie in your "Cookies" folder and is much more reliable.

Hi! point3, welcome to 7F

Your situation is caused by a corrupted registry key.

In order to fix it you could follow the instructions here:
Outlook Express keeps prompting for your password

NOTE: Following this procedure will remove all stored passwords for your user account. Make sure you know what they are before performing this procedure!!

I cannot get Vista to remember passwords from one session to another. As well, I cannot connect to MSN Messenger as it will not recognize my login or password. Any suggestions?

A:How do you get Vista to remember passwords

Hi Jerry,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

If you mean for a web site, then you will need to have cookies enabled or enabled "Per Site". It should remember the password for next time as long as you do not delete the cookie for that that site. You can see more on how to do this here.

Cookies

For MSN Messenger, you will need to have Allow automatic sign in when connected to the internet in Tools checked, Options, General tab. On the main Messenger window, you will also need to have Remember my password, Remember me, and Sign me in automatically checked.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

this is where the problem comes in.... when the workstations are powered down and powered on again, they cant print again and i cant access the pc that shares the printer. i need to once again type the username and password and only then gain access, i have ticked "remember password" but i got nothing... pls help.... i gets annoying to keep on having to type in the username and password

If you have the same username(s) and password(s) on both machines, pass through authentication should occur, and you should not be prompted for a password.

This is a months-long problem and there seems to be no solution. I cannot get Firefox to remember passwords. I used to be able to come back to TechGuy after several hours or or even several days and not even have to log in, same for other sites.

It doesn't even offer to remember any more. And back when it did offer, it didn't do it.

I uninstalled Firefox a few weeks back, deleted my profile and reinstalled. It remembered passwords all of one day, after that it was back to playing dumb again.

You need to enable cookies and change settings under IE so that it does not delete cookies and saved passwords on exit. Also, many third party apps like CCleaner will clean cookies when run. Theres an option in CCleaner to exclude cookies of your choice from being deleted.

This is a good read.

A:Cannot remember passwords and usernames?

I see that you have a HJT log properly posted, here, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

Hi! A few weeks ago I posted this problem:

Hello,
for some reason my Firefox browser will not remember passwords for certain pages, such as my hotmail account or my internet banking pages. Yesterday I removed Firefox and then reinstalled it on my computer but to no avail! I have the 'remember passwords for sites' box checked in the tools menu, and there are no exceptions. What else could it be? Do I have to setup a master password or something? Please help, this really sucks.
Also, hotmail has stopped showing the email that I'm replying to on the reply screen. Really annoying, so any suggestions about that much apprecciated too!

I got this reply:
Master Password will make it all better. Negative is the first site requiring a password after opening your browser will require the Master Password first. Then putting the cursor on the user field will allow quick access.

And this one:
Check your cookie settings. Passwords for some sites are stored in cookies, so they need to be enabled (either globally or for specific sites using the exceptions rules).

But neither seems to have helped unfortunately. I have set a master password and still not working. Just means I have to type that in each time as well as my un-remembered password! I checked my cookies but there is a Live.com entry so I'm guessing that's my email account, yet still I have to enter the password/username each time! So annoying, please help!!!! Any ideas sat all???

Hello
I have used FF for past couple years and have no installed it.

One thing I liked is autocomplete (think that's what it is called) when I need to login somewhere, ie forum.
It won't show my username or password, but when I type the first letter or number, it will drop down if I want to select that username.
ie. If I type in "d" in the username, a drop down of doogie88 will show up, and if I click it, it will fill in the username and password.
But I don't want it to automatically log me in.

3) Manage Addons window pops up every time I start the browser :(

Hi,

I inadvertently deleted some files and folders in my user directory when attempting to clean up some temp files. I think that I restored all the deleted files, but I had to reinstall my smart-ups software and replace all the application icons on the quick launch and in the start menu.

The only issue I have left to resolve at this point is IE11 remembering website passwords. When I login to a website such as the Seven Forums, when I click in the user name box, my user name will appear, but when I click in the password box, the password doesn't appear as it used to. Now I have to manually retype the password each time I login. I do get the pop-up bar at the bottom of the page that asks if I want IE11 to remember the password each time, but for some reason the remembered password isn't there the next time I attempt a login.

Is there a fix for this issue?

Regards

I'm wondering who can answer this.

I.E. 11 will not remember passwords even though the option is turned on.  This happens only on a few Windows 10 computers with I.E. 11 (but not all win 10 computers in our domain though).
I've verified that this happens to multiple accounts on the same computer.
I've also went into tools->internet options->content->autocomplete and ensured that the options are turned on.
I've also uninstalled and re-installed IE, but the issue still persists.
I'm starting to think that there's a corrupt file or registry entry somewhere that may be causing issues, or it's some kind of security permissions issue that's preventing windows from writing to certain files or registry entries.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi. This is essentially the same question asked in tech support guy post #370015 except that I'm running XP Home, not XP Pro. (The Pro solution doesn't work for XP Home.) When I take my personal laptop to work, I have to log into the network to use any network resources, such as shared drives, proxy server etc. It's very annoying because EVERY time I open IE, I need to enter my server/username and password to access the proxy server. My understanding is that before XP SP2, there was a checkbox that asked if you wanted to remember your password & username, which is now gone.

Let me make this clear: I'm NOT asking to have IE remember internet passwords. And this is not a network administration issue -- my admin told me it was a service pack issue on my computer. Any suggestions? I'm going bonkers because I have to enter my network password every thirty seconds!!

Hello I have two issues. These issues occurred after I had to clean my PC from malware (with tetonbob, these forums). During the cleaning process many files were found to be corrupt and the system automatically fixed/deleted them. As a result I had to install a new version of Outlook, and moved from using Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2007.

Issue 1:
I use FF as my primary browser. It will not remember my passwords. during the malware session we went through the process outlined below and nothing changed. Note: IE passwords are not being remembered either.

Issue 2:
Now that I installed a Outlook 2007 clicking on a link in an email opens IE. I tried this process that I found online:

1. Launch My Computer or Windows Explorer.
2. Choose menu 'Tools' -> 'Folder Options'
3. Click the 'File Types' tab.
4. Scroll down to find 'URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol' (under the File Types column) and make sure it's highlighted.

Paste that in a new reply to this thread.

I highly recommend NOT changing anything if you are unsure of what you are doing. Simply looking at the config and copying items will be fine, but you need to be very careful when modifying the configuration.

Although I check off "remember my password" when entering all programs that require a password, and also ask to be kept "signed in," it doesn't happen, forcing me to re-enter each password each time I use a program. Is there a particular file within XP that houses saved passwords that must be activated or changed?

Heres the thing: I have a really hard time remembering my usernames/email accounts (yes.. even certain email accounts) and passwords.
So I was wondering if anyone knew of any freeware that could do this for me.
It has to be a clean program (even though I know you guys woudnt lead me to downloading malware) but still can never be to sure ay ;)
It'd be even better if you've had some experience with the program so I can find out what its like form others personal experience

By the way, I know I could configure my browser to do this but I dont like that idea for some reason..

Thanks

This is a nice small one. It's free. I've used it before. You can get a version that installs or one that is in a zip and runs from the extracted folder without any installation. http://www.cygnusproductions.com/freeware/pc.asphttp://www.cygnusproductions.com/downloads/downloads.asp

I have Windows XP Home Edition and use Firefox to browse the web. On many websites, like this one, my password is saved so I just click login when I go to the site... For other websites, Firefox does not give me the option to "Remember" password... I am relatively sure that I did not click "Never for this site" at any time for these sites (such as Yahoo!), but in case I did, is there a way to erase these preferences? Is there any other reason that Firefox wouldn't prompt me to "Remember" a password for a particular site?

A:Solved: How to make Firefox remember passwords

You check the box where you login at to remember password and then a box pops up and you click remember for this site or something like that. But this site and some others that are Powered by vBulletin it will not bring up the password manager so your have to login each time you come here if you don't keep the cookies for this site.
Then a site may need JavaScript to be running to bring things up to remember you.
You can go to tools, options, privacy and check the setting button and make sure the save passwords box is unchecked.
Then go to tools, options, security tab and put a checkmark in the "Remember passwords for sites" box and click OK. Also click the exceptions button and look to see what sites are listed because they are the site you said "Never for this site" so then those sites will never ask you again so if you delete any sites from there then click the remember me when you login it will bring the box up again so you can say alway remember this site.

Hello,

for some reason my Firefox browser will not remember passwords for certain pages, such as my hotmail account or my internet banking pages.

Cheers,

Steve

A:Firefox won't remember passwords to email/bank etc

Master Password will make it all better. Negative is the first site requiring a password after opening your browser will require the Master Password first. Then putting the cursor on the user field will allow quick access.
