External rom drive disconnect and reconnect simultaneously (Moved from Windows 8)

Q: External rom drive disconnect and reconnect simultaneously (Moved from Windows 8)

I tried to copy DVD from external rom drive . It copy like 5 % and disconnect. Then I connected both two usb cable from ex rom drive to my computer to get more power . It's copied between 70 to 80% and disconnect. How to solve this problem. I want to copy all to my computer.

Preferred Solution: External rom drive disconnect and reconnect simultaneously (Moved from Windows 8)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey there!

the tl;dr is that external hdds keep disconnecting/reconnecting when connected to a certain usb port. the story below might help you guys help me as it kinda shows what I've tried already and when the problems started

when it started/system backstory:
I seem to be having problems with a certain usb port. I have a lenovo y500 laptop with 2 usb ports on the left side, and 1 on the right. I'm not sure if they all support usb 3, but at least one does (I'll look up the specifics on this later/if relevant).

I own several external hdds (some usb2, some usb3) and up until recently, have never encountered any problems with hooking more than 1 up to my laptop. I recently purchased another WD My Book 4TB, and proceeded to hook that one and one of the same type that I already owned (and that has/had worked flawlessly since I bought it months ago), up to my laptop. Everything seemed fine. However, the next time I started up my laptop, with the 2 drives still attached, the new drive attached to one of the left usb ports, started acting up right away. Constantly disconnecting/reconnecting. Which it hadn't done at all the previous day/night, when I had used it for quite a lot of hours.
what I've tried already:
Since I found a lot of IO errors in the event log, I figured it was probably the hdd dying. However, when I hooked up another external hdd today, one that I have fully checked less than a week ago, and it started to do the exact same thing, I figured it was probably som... Read more

A:External HDDs disconnect/reconnect on certain USB Port

Most likely a power problem. The rated power of 500ma isn't much and can easily be overloaded. The power circuit to the port in question may be going bad. If so it won't make any difference if the drive is externally powered.

Ever since I got my hardware upgrade and installed it with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, I have been plagued by this randomly freezing issue or the USBs randomly disconnect then reconnect. This is completely driving me bonkers and I'm completely out of solutions right now. I've just reformatted the whole SSD only to be hit by the random freezes again right after I tried to install other softwares.

Is my BIOS somehow configured wrong? I've left everything at "default" setting and I don't even dare to OC. I really hope that my hardwares are not faulty. Can someone please help me out? I am very good at following instructions, but I haven't got a clue as to what I need to do right now. The motherboard came with a BIOS interface that I cannot make heads and tails of at all.

All the drivers installed are taken directly from the manufacture's website, should be the most recent version.
When the desktop freezes, I lose power and connectivity to all my USB connected devices.
I have to flip the mast power switch in the back of the case to force the computer to shut down. Holding on the power button does nothing.

This happens about every 30 minutes to every hour. I will just all the sudden sign off on everybodys buddy list (but on mine it still says I'm online), then in a few minutes my buddy list will pop up in front of the other windows, and everybody on my list will log on at the same time. This started recently after switching from AOL to RoadRunner. Correct me if I am wrong, but I have a strange feeling it has something to do with port forwarding. Any ideas?

Very strange.I've checked Device Manager to ensure the latest Drivers are installed.ipconfig /flushdnsRan malware scanChecked this and other forums for possible cause and solution. Negative results. This is annoying as it happens only once a day, as stated earlier, not reallydevastating as I can live with it. But it irks me and I would like to know thecause and cure.Mika

I've searched online, but every issue I found is the USB disconnecting devices every 5 minutes. Mine disconnects ever 1/5th of a second.

I have a USB CD/DVD Drive (because manufacturer's stopped putting these drives in laptops), and on all 3 USB ports on have this issue. It's also device specific. I plug the CD drive in, and the computer plays its little "device connected" tone. Then half a second later, it plays the "device disconnected" tone. It does this for a solid 30 seconds. The little device icon in the taskbar flashes on and off in 1/5th of a second intervals, looks like a siezure.

This does not happen with USB mice, but it does happen with this CD/DVD drive as well as any android device I plug in (2 different types tested). That's why I dont think its a CD drive device issue.

Any direction on where to go for this? I can't find anything.

Also, side note, after the 30 seconds of it going crazy, if I open the CD/DVD drive, the drive actually appears on the list in "This PC", if I click on it, it says to insert a disk. Once I close the disk tray, it starts the process over again of spazzing out.

Lenovo Y70-70 Touch
Windows 10 Home
Intel i7-4710

Edit: Also, this happened both before and after upgradeing from Windows 8 to Windows 10. It was just an upgrade, not a full wipe.

My Question is related to Networking but here might be the suitable place for it. I am always connected to Town Wifi with no encryption but to have internet access I have to open the browser and I will be forwarded to a page where I should enter the user name and password after that I have internet access. In normal ISP you can automatically reconnect after disconnection but for this one if I am disconnected from them , I have to open the browser where I should enter the user name and password again.

the problem is that ISP dissconnect the users Twice daily so if I have download I come back to find that the download stopped because there is no internet connection and I have to resume it by entering the user name and password.

there are two cases for the problem. I prefer a solution for case one but solution for case two also OK

1- automatic reconnect after disconnect. So If the internet dissconnect. A Program open the browser and enter the user name and password to have the internet connection back. if the page for the user name and password didn't appear, this mean that ISP is offline for all user for fixing some problem and the program should try again later.

2- trying to open the browser at certain times for example every 4 or 6 hrs to enter the user name and password. if opening the browser doesn't take the program to page for entering the user name and password, this mean that there is internet or there is problem with the ISP and should try again l... I am having some intermittent connectivity issues with my network and I have no idea where to start trouble shooting. It seems that from time to time (several times a day) I will lose my connection to the network momentarily. It only happens for a few seconds and I don't even notice it until my yahoo messenger comes up and starts logging on again. I also will notice it if I'm trying to bring a page up and it will say this page cannot be displayed.

I have a desktop computer and it doesn't do it. I stay on my laptop and it is wireless and I'm connected to the internet with a cable modem. I'm running XP on it. I don't have any idea what other information you need.

Hi, I've been using my router, a SMC2804WBR for about 4-5 years now. It hasn't given me any problems until recently when my connection (wired) would go off for a second, then reconnect again. In this case, both activity and connection lights (orange and green) from my Ethernet card and the router would go off, then on again as it reconnects.

It does not disconnect me from my online games or msn etc, it just gives me a load of packet losses, which is irritating.

OS: Vista home premium 32x
ISP: starhub cable vision (singapore)

3 pcs using a wireless connection, 1 pc using a wired connection.

Tried the following steps,

- reset everything
- firmware upgrade
- disabled firewall
- plugged the LAN cable into the other LAN ports on the router

Things that I did not do, well because i don't have the chance to...

- use a direct connection, I don't have a straight cable long enough
- do a LAN cable test (how do you do one? x_x)

I have no idea what could be the problem, this problem popped up just a week ago.

Thank you for looking into this.

I am using Windows 10 and each time I restart the computer I am unable to use the wireless network.

The wireless icon in the taskbar claims it is connected but I have to click disconnect and then connect each time (it is connecting to the correct network).

The issue is limited to Widnows 10 as I dual boot this machine and don't have this problem with debian (nor do any of my other devices on the network).

Any suggestions ?

A:Have to disconnect and reconnect wireless each reboot

There are a few things that may need to be looked at.
1 updated drivers for WiFi
2 remove wireless network and reattach it with password.
3 reset networking settings either through the command prompt or with some software like Rizonesoft Complete Internet repair http://www.rizonesoft.com/downloads/ I'm pretty sure it's one of those.. or a combination of all three

Most of the time, this machine boots fine; but, on relatively rare occasions, it simply will not POST. If I temporarily disconnect the power or turn it off at the power supply switch, it will POST and boot just fine 100% of the time.

This problem has followed this board from its original installation into another case so it isn't the power supply, hard disk or CD drives as they have all been changed, too.

The board is a cheapie, an Amptron all-in-one with an Athlon XP processor.

Any suggestions?

Since doing a clean install of Windows 7 my internet keeps timing out. The icon in the task bar shows that it's normal, but I'll be online and after a couple minutes the internet just stops. When I click on the icon it says "connected" and "internet access."

I have tried on both a Netgear and Apple router, so it's not a router issue. I reset the modem and routers a dozen times. I called my ISP and they said everything looks normal. My Droid phone works fine and so does a Macbook in the house.

I have rolled back my Atheros5007 wireless card driver, which did nothing. And then tried upgrading the latest version, which did nothing. Uninstalled the driver then reinstalled, still with no luck.

This is blowing my mind. I was running Windows 7 fine all year and did the clean install as something I do every year to keep my computer running well. Bad move!

I ran the network diagnostic utility and it said it fixed something, although I'm not sure what. Either way, it didn't actually fix the problem.

Not to mention, I've had the blue screen of death a couple times now. Once when I was connecting my laptop (HP G60t-200) to a Tv, and the other just happened out of nowhere.

Hi, I'm using a HP Envy dv6-7398ca with Windows 8.1. I've had some spotty internet issues since June but ever since I switched to Comcast in July my internet has been almost unusable on my laptop. No one else has this problem in the household but me, so it's definitely my laptop.

If I'm connected via Ethernet cable, the internet's alright. But the router/modem is in my house's living room, and I'd like to be able to do stuff inside my room.

Online games like World of Warcraft are just impossible. I can log in and it'll take a god awful amount of time to load, and then the game just lags out. For the internet browser (Mozilla), it works fine for 2-3 minutes, but then starts to take forever... and ever... to load. If I disconnect and reconnect, it'll be normal speed again, but the same problem will occur. I'm so exhausted from this.

I'm not that great with computers, but I'm honestly done with taking my laptop to repair places. Everytime I have, some new problem has come up and caused me more frustration and money out of my wallet. :\ (This time, the CD tray will no longer eject. I have no idea how THAT got messed up, but it was working before I took it to the place. Hi there.

So I have a problem with my USBs (either keyboard, mouse or webcam) that disconnects and instantly reconnects during a thunderstorm (whenever there's a thunderbolt, my computer makes the USB connect/disconnect sound and then 'stutters' for a second). This is very, very irritating and causes me to not be able to play games during thunderstorms.

Now I've heard that this is caused by the 'extra static electricity in the air, being picked up by the long keyboard/mouse wire, and causing it to disconnect'... but, my questions is, how do I fix this? Should I wrap all my cables in tin-foil? What can be done about this?

Any help will be appreciated and I'll rep if my problem is solved. Thanks.

Ive downloaded the USBview and it did not detect any USB devices disconnecting or reconnecting. ive also disconnected all my USB devices from the computer and the sounds still occur. What country are you located in.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
What is the expected Upstream/Downstream speed for your ISP Connection?
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.

Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make and model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?

If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

I've been using Windows 10 since 2015, and for months it was good. I ran into a few issues here and there but I've either solved them or learned to live with them. Originally I was using a Razer Naga mouse, one of the older ones, and that eventually ran into problems 3-4 months ago. For that mouse, it ended up being frayed wires, the common culprit. However, every mouse I've used since then has been disconnecting/reconnecting in a similar (but not the same) way.

When the Razer Naga disconnected, it did the whole thing. The lights turned off, Windows would make the USB disconnect sound (quickly followed by the reconnect sound), and it would start working again once the wire found that sweet spot. Now I used an old 4 button logitech as a backup, and while it's a little beat up, it still works. When that would disconnect it was like the sensitivity dropped to 0 and Windows didn't make any sound. I ordered a new 20 button logitech- a g600- and this mouse is still having the same issue. What this newer mouse showed me though is that the mouse never actually loses power.

I've tried a few different fixes for this:While my computer is a desktop, someone recommended I turn off a specific setting in the device manager properties for USB Generic Hub, Root Hub, and Input Devices. "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
I switched from using a 2.0 USB, to 3.0. No change and I also noticed that the mouse is the only thing affected. My keyboard never loses... Read more

My internet provider is a little weird. Sometimes it's necessary to disconnect and reconnect the connection in order to get the highest download speed available. The problem is, when I'm sleeping, I'm losing precious time and bandwitdh when downloading.
What I need, is a program that can monitor traffic usage, and disconnect and reconnect the connection, based on whether the traffic fail to achieve the quota I set beforehand (e.g disconnect if less than 4000 kb within 120 seconds, or something similar.)
When using Windows XP, I used to use HiDialer 2000 Pro to do exactly this. But now I've moved to Windows 7 x64, and that program just doesn't work anymore.
I'm hoping if the program you have in mind worked on Vista, it would work on Win 7 too.
Many thanks

I've been having an issue over the past couple days which occurs at random, in which my keyboard and mouse connect and disconnect randomly. They're both plugged into the USB's on the back of the motherboard firmly and have a good connect, but they will lose power and come back on within a second. I can tell because of the DPI setting light on my mouse, and my keyboard is backlit. A couple hours ago, it started doing it to both, at the same time, rapidly- just lights blinking on and off at an inconsistent rate, with Windows blooping occasionally saying a device is connected.

I'm going to try some different ports and see if that fixes anything, but has anyone else had this happen? Motherboard is a Gigabyte Z68X-UD4-B3... I'd figure that if 2 USB ports are affected by whatever is causing the problem, it would do the same on all of them? Is it likely that my board is screwed? I had power outages a couple days ago that came on and off (as it does any friggin' time it rains in my neighborhood), so could that mess with it?

A:Solved: Random, sometimes rapid, keyboard/mouse disconnect and reconnect...

Thanks for the interest and help.
I have a dual boot system (Vista Enterprise and XP). I have built the computer myself and newly installed both OS. The computer works perfectly with XP. When I boot into Vista, everything works fine. Then when I shut down, I cannot boot the computer unless I disconnect the power supply and then reconnect the power supply. Then everything operates normally. If I boot into XP, then shut down, this does not happen...I can turn on the system and boot into either OS. All updates for both OS are current (SP1 for Vista and SP3 for XP). The system was a clean install. XP was installed first, then Vista. XP was installed directly to a SATA hard drive. Vista was installed to a separate RAID 1 SATA Hard Drive.
Any help would be appreciated.

A:When shut down Vista, must disconnect the power supply and reconnect before booting

What do you mean when you say you cannot boot the computer? Does it boot up at all or fail during boot up?

This might be really wrong but I'm not sure how a dual-boot works exactly. However, you're using two hard-drives, is there a default hard-drive that you're computer boots up under? I know on my notebook, un-plugging the power supply and taking out the battery pack and putting it back in and re-connecting power supply power-cycles and restores default boot settings. I had issues booting up on my desktop too, I tried this and this helped.

I would be using one hard-drive for both operating systems and another hard-drive for the documents, photos, programs, videos etc

I am running Vista 64 Ultimate and have an external hard drive connected via 1394. If my computer is not accessing the drive it will often fail to recognise the device after only a short while. ie it does not appear as a drive in explorer, and any programs start which need data on the drive say the drive is disconnected.
Turning the drive off and on again reconnects it as does simply unplugging the cable and reconnecting it but not only is this a hassle I am concerned about corrupting data somewhere along the line. The machine does not actually sleep and in some cases I am actually using the machine, but have not accessed the drive for a few minutes and it still disconnects. On other occaisions I might leave the machine on over night and the drive is still connected the next day.
As a result I have no idea if this is a driver, hardware or settings issue.

Does any one have any suggestions for a fix or even how I should start more detailed fault diagnosis?

A:External Hard drive 1394 Random disconnect

Look at the power options in device manager.
List your system specs.
Look at your error logs;

Left Click on Start Menu.
Right click on Computer and choose manage.
Click on the event viewer.
You now have loads of options to try and pin down what is happening.
Expand the error tab.
Look for things in the last 24 hours.

I have a new since Christmas Yoga 720-12IKB and find that the wifi is disconnecting/reconnecting numerous times per minute. It causes significant distruption trying to use the computer, with frequent errors about not being connected to the internet. Generally causes the device to operate very slow, nearly unusable. I'm not having disruption on any other computers/tablets/phones connected. I've tried a fair amount of troubleshooting but have yet to find a solution. The one workaround that I've found is that when I connect to power, the problem goes away. Remove power, issue returns. Suggests a problem with the power management (or possibly network adapter driver) but I can't figure it out. The network adapter is Qualcomm QCA61x4a. Here's what I've attempted: 1) Disable the power management feature of the adapter (uncheck allow computer to turn off)2) Run Lenovo System Update to make sure all drivers are up-to-date3) Manually updated the driver via device manager (went from .312 to .438)4) Switch roaming agressiveness to low Other than making it a desktop (needing to leave it plugged in to avoid the issue) any suggestions/resolution to this problem? Anyone else seeing the same behavior? Frustrating problem to an otherwise fantastic, fun, and fast Yoga!!! Looking for a light at the end of the tunnel....

I have a Lenovo t61 laptop with Windows Vista. I have a western digital mybook essential edition 250GB which I previously used with my old laptop which ran XP. When I safely remove the hard drive, the computer gives me the message that the hard drive has been succesfully disconnected, however the ring light on the external hard drive remains on. Ideally, this light should go off once I have disconnected the hard drive.
I have have tried using the Western Digital Spindown program, but the light still remains on. My only option is to manually turn the hard drive off, which the manufacturer says not to do.
What can I do so that the external hard drive disconnects properly?

A:Vista doesn't properly disconnect external hard drive

Does your hard drive have a separate power source/cord? I don't know about the 250G drives, but the 500G MyBookI have is powered by a cord (rather than the USB port). And even if I disconnect the drive from the PC, the light on mine stays on until the power itself is cut off.

i've noticed that in one of my folders none of my file folders within it are showing on my external hard drive. i can only think that this happened when i failed to properly close the folder when i disconnected the hard drive. other files are ok. i've already tried running recuva and pandora on the drive and gone into the control panel and selected view hidden files. is there any other way to recover these files or are they gone forever? my computer is running windows 7.

A:lost files after improper disconnect external hard drive

Try TestDisk,

For Fat :- http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk:_undelete_file_for_FAT

For NTFS :- http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/Undelete_files_from_NTFS_with_TestDisk

I would read the whole page first, the first part of the Fat page shows how to get to the first screen shown on the NTFS page.

You can also try PhotoRec on the same website but start with TestDisk which can recover the filenames, PhotoRec probably won't.

The drive is installed in Windows XP Professional (SP2) when first connected according to the supplied instructions. Windows mounts the drive correctly and I have read and write access to the disc.
But after reboot the drive is no longer present and can not be found even though it is still plugged in and the power is connected.

I have tested this on two different machines now and the behaviour is the same. At the first connection it is detected, but if disconnecte and reconnected or after a reboot of the computer the drive can no longer be found by Windows.

THe drive is connected directly to the computers USB slot.

Heres the steps I have gone through on both computers:

1. Started the computer (Windows XP Professional and th other computer XP Home).
2. Plugged the USB cable between the external drive and the computer.
3. Plugged the external drive into the power outlet.
4. Windows detected the drive and mounted the three partiotions on the drive correctly.
5. Tested read/write without any problems.
6. I rebooted the computer.
7. The drive is NO LONGER available.
8. Tried plugging the drive in- and out both USB and power but still not found by Windows.

What's wrong here?

Just got my new computer yesterday. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

I have my dialup connection set to reconnect after connection loss, and it does it just fine - but Windows Live Messenger Will not attempt to re-sign in after my internet connection has been reconnected! It just keeps doing that countdown over and over as if I'm not connected to the internet.

It's important for me for Windows Messenger to reconnect because msn wakes me up at certain times with nudges from my business partner. How can I fix this? What's the problem? Thanks

Hi everyone, I'm having a serious problem with my ProBook 450 G3 (Full HD). Sometimes when tilting the lid, the screen turns off and on again several times, with the Windows device disconnect and connect sound playing. Sometimes this also happens unprovoked and often three, four times in a row. Then it doesn't happen again for 20 minutes or so, no matter if I move the screen or not. I have sent my laptop to HP for repair twice, the first time it came back saying they exchanged the connector, the second time it came back saying they couldn't replicate the problem. I always removed my SSD because it was not part of the original package and I was fairly certain it was a hardware issue because I: - had un- and re-installed the video driver several times and tried different versions- formatted the device and re-installed Windows 10 from scratch each time I got it back from HP. I read somewhere that it might be an issue with the fingerprint scanner, however I also tried deactivating and uninstalling the driver (keeps re-installing itself upon reboot), and this did not change anything. Before sending it back to HP again (this time I would want it replaced), I want to explore some options. I know this is a tough one because it happens randomly and sometimes not for an hour, so it is very hard to replicate and figure out exactly where the problem lies. Any ideas? Thanks!

I almost always use my tablet with an external hard drive which I set up to spare the internal SSD the wear and tear of constant writes. I even set Environment Variables to write the TEMP and TMP files to the external drive, not the C drive.

But occasionally I might have to run the tablet without the external drive attached. What would Windows 7 do in such a situation? Would I get a BSOD? Or would Windows automatically set the TEMP and TMP files back to the original setting? And then when I connected the external drive again would I have to reset the environment variables for TEMP and TMP again?

And what would Firefox do? I set it up to write cache to the external drive.

Thanks for answers.

A:Moved TEMP and TMP files to external drive. But what if...?

Hi gumbyy :)

You wouldn't have BSODs, but you would get a lot of error messages saying that the location cannot be accessed and a lot of your programs wouldn't work since they won't be able to access your %tmp% and %temp% locations. It's the same as when you try to install a program and the installer cannot properly extract to the Local\Temp folder.

Here's exactly what I did:
I have a 3TB Seagate hard drive that I primarily use with my Windows 8.1 machine every day. I turned off that computer, unplugged the drive, and plugged it into my Windows 7 laptop. I moved (not copied) about 2GB from C:\ImportantPhotos to the external drive to Z:\Photos\Unsorted. The files moved in about 7 minutes. They were gone from my Windows 7 laptop and appeared fine on my external hard drive.
I then plugged the hard drive back into my Windows 8.1 primary machine and turned it on. When I went to navigate to the Z:\Photos\Unsorted\, I saw ImportantPhotos folder and was pleased to know this was a success. I mean, why wouldn't it be? However, when I clicked the folder it gave me an error about the folder not being available, and now the folder is completely gone. I tried to view the folder back on the Win7 laptop, and it was still missing completely.
Where did my files go? Did I lose them completely
(Possibly relevant: There was definitely activity on the external drive, as the parent folder (Unsorted) shows Date Modified time of exactly the time the files were moved.)
THANK YOU for any help help! My engagement photos are on there!!! If you need any more information at all, please ask!

A:Moved 2GB to external HDD using Win7, plugged drive into 8.1, folder gone

Hello, and Welcome
Hindsight is 20/20 but for important files it is always best to copy and not move. You can always delete the originals once you know the copy was successful.
That being said Unhide your files and folders as shown here. Do you see the folder on the external drive or on your C: Drive? If not then in the search box type in the name of the folder you moved the files to. Does a search find the folder?
