I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Getting an infinite loading sort of error where my comp goes to HP loading screen, blackscreen, turns off, and repeats. Very annoying and nothing I've seen so far is working. I don't have a disk or drive to use to reload Windows with, and I didn't set any system restore points like an idiot, so I'm stuck here. I'm not that great with computers so any help would be appreciated, thanks.

This is a Gateway W350A computer with windows vista.
It has a recover partition on drive D, and I do not have any recovery CD's nor DVD's.

I'm trying to restore it to factory settings, already backed up my stuff. First problem, the Gateway recover center wasn't there so I found it in the computer and installed it. Everytime I open it and choose Factory System Recovery it prompts me to restart the computer. When I do so, nothing happens. Tried from system restore, again the computer restarts and nothing more. Already looked at the recovery partition, the files were hidden and made them visible. However they still have a lock icon and can't get any to run.

I tried Alt F10 as well and that only takes me to BIOS setup. F5 and apparently there should be another option like "Fix my computer" which eventually can lead you to reset to factory settings, however that option is not listed. Only the Safe mode, safe mode with command prompt etc. Tried all the F's and none will take me to anything leading to the restoration.

How can I get it to reset to factory settings? help please.

Apparently there is a guide of some sort, according to the Gateway site below, called "how to install drivers and software" which also talks about recovery. The link below also links to their tech support chat :

I have an Asus Aspire ES 15 (ES1-533-C55P). It has an intel Processor N3350, 4GB DDR3 L Memory, 500 GB GB HDD, and 1000 Mbps.
This has Windows 10.
About 2 months ago my computer was infected by a virus. A bad on (the one where a big red screen appears saying ?WARNING! Contact Microsoft, etc, etc. and it?s very loud horn noise, you can?t turn it off. I finally ended up unplugging my computer. But that was after about 30 min of trying to figure out what to do).
Someone advised me, last night, that if I do a factory reset that it will destroy almost all viruses. I checked several websites (from my internet in my ph) and confirmed this was true.
I was finally, after many problems, able to get the factory reset started. It worked for several hours. It then when to automatic shut off and then restart (as part of the process of the factory reset). I finally went to bed. When I woke up, I saw this message on my screen ?A configuration change was requested to clear this computer?s TPM. Warning: clearing erases information stored on the TPM. Etc.?. I verified that it was ok to say ?Yes? to this.
However, my mouse icon no longer is showing on the screen (either internal mouse or using external mouse). I tried hitting the F12 key and also the volume up key (as I had read sometimes that means ?Yes?). Neither of these worked to get my vomputed to continue the process. It?s just stuck at this TPM warning screen. How do I get my computer to proceed with the factory... Read more

So I got my Windows 8 computer in 2012, later upgraded it to 8.1. I have had no major problems with it until earlier today. I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio and when I tried uploading a video into it to edit it, my computer started freezing at everything. I looked in my task manager and it was nothing major to the RAM or CPU. I tried restarting it and then upon restarting, it showed a black screen with nothing. I had to restart it 5 times to get it to actually turn on. This post is not about malware issues or freezing though.
I want to reset my computer to factory settings. So I go to Settings-->Change PC Settings-->Update and Recovery-->Remove Everything and Reinstall Windows. And it gives me this message: "Some files are missing. Your windows installation or recovery media will provide these files." So I looked it up and found this site: http://www.gizmag.com/how-to-windows-8-pc-refresh-reset/32801/
Towards the end of the page it says what to do if you get that message. So I followed the commands and waited until it was 100% completed. Then I was happy and tried resetting it again. I get the same message.
So my question is: How do I reset my computer? And pardon the long post.

A:Cannot Reset my Windows 8.1 Computer to Factory Settings

Hello, and Welcome
The problem is when a person updates 8 to 8.1 through the store, you lose the ability to do a factory reset or refresh.
There is a work-around on the above link.
Another option:
Get the windows key using produkey. The key is embedded in the BIOS of all OEM windows 8 computers. Go here to download the 8.1 media iso and you can install Windows 8.1 or try the workaround in the above link.
Backup any important data first.

Hi, I haven't had  this new HP laptop very long. Less than a year actually. I bought a Compaq prior to it and it lasted about a month but even though it was in the original box it's build date was early 2013 so I forgave HP for it only lasting a month because I loaded Windows 10 on it and it was to much for the laptop to handle. So I bought this brand new 15 inch screen HD touch display windows 10 f211wm. It was cheap and after 16 years of purchasing dells I had some concern. My dells lasted forever and were great computers but the cost was high. Being a new one income household and after researching it I thought perhaps I was being to difficult. The low price didn't have to mean low quality.  The first issue was confusion over ram specifications. On its spec sheet it says memory....4 GB of ddr3l sdram. Under that it says memory slots... 1 user accessible.  I mistakenly believed that was an additional slot which mattered to me. As did the first HP sales rep I called to order the additional ram. He had to then call me back and say sorry that spec sheets is talking about the 4 gigs of ram thats already installed and maxed at 4. Not confusing at all. Look it up online. At dell it would have said 4 GB of....sdram in user accessable slot. I wasn't pleased. It didn't maatt to HP. Just change the specs HP. If you don't leave room for confusion you can't be blamed. The second issue was the fact that there is no Bluetooth adapter on th... Read more

I assumed that the drivers were deleted so i tried plugging my monitor into my graphics card and the motherboard but neather seem to do anything, the monitor still gets no signal.

This whole annoying process has been going on quite a while, so let me take you back to the start

A few months ago I posted a thread on another forum regarding a problem with the svchost files taking up all my memory and bringing my computer to a crawl .

Here is that thread - Nothing will fix the svchost virus / trojan! - Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs

If you read through that, you will see that I downloaded and ran pretty much every cleaner or anti spyware/malware whatever you call them that there is, and it actually seemed to work! Ever since my computer has stopped being dragged down to a crawl and being unusable. So I was pretty happy about that!

However, yesterday I decided to do a factory reset of my computer. I decided to do this because I play a game called League of Legends, and I only get about 10 fps and it is all glitchy and very annoying to play. My friend has the same laptop as me, he has way more crap on his PC than me and he is running the game smoothly at 40-50fps.

But after doing the factory reset, nothing has improved! It was then that I did CTRL + ALT + DEL, and saw that svchost was taking up about 120k of memory. Not as much as it used to, but I thought this might be the problem again!

If you think the problem is something completely different then please let me know but after doing a reset I don't see what else it could be.

Thanks to anyone that can help me

Okay, so sorry, im a total newb at this.

I seem to be bad luck for any computer I touch. I just got a new laptop at the end of last summer, and since then I have been having a bunch of problems. I have been able to solve them all up until now. I have no clue what's wrong, and stupid me, I never backed it up so anyway, currently my computer won't go on the internet (doesn't think it has a wifi card installed) won't play audio (doesn't think it has speakers--haunt tried plugging in external ones, but my guess is it would work fine) won't open any Microsoft office programs or files (no clue why) won't recognize my external hard drive, or flash drive, or any USB device. And the list goes on. Basically, I'm giving up and wanna just wipe the whole thing, restore it to factory state, and start over. Oh yea, and did I mention that it been partitioned like 7 times because I gave it to my friend to install linux, and when it wasn't working, he just kept trying and ended up installing ubuntu over and over again in a new partition. Yea.

So anyway I really wanna back up all my stuff, but how can I do that 1: in a way that won't transfer the problem whatever it is, and 2:that I can do with only CDs. I'm running windows seven home premium 64bit

Any help on the backup, and any tips in general would be really appreciated. I am at the end of my role here and about to go crazy.

Sorry for the weird long crazy post. I'm just like about to lose it

Hi all,

So somehow, I contracted a pretty bad virus. It basically reset my computer, as if I had just installed Windows Seven (all my programs and files gone). My computer is an Alienware M17x, Sandy Bridge i7, 4GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro. I didn't really have a ton of important files on the computer, but I did have a ton of programs installed, and I was hoping there was some way that I could restore them.

So this is what happened: I was doing a scan with my virus software (Zone Alarm Pro Extreme Security) and a virus was found, repaired it, rebooted, everything seemed fine. Then, I was trying to upgrade my Bluetooth driver, but the upgrade failed each time. I rebooted again and wasn't really doing anything when my desktop icons suddenly all disappeared. I thought that was weird, so I went to My Computer and I saw that my hard drive was reporting only 5% used space, as opposed to like 80% used as before. I went to program files...sure enough, only the original program files were left (Windows Media Player, etc). My Documents was blank, too.

Is there anything I can do? I know I can try to use file recovery software to recover individual files, but is there any way I could do a complete, like, format recovery (programs and everything?) I really want to try to save my programs. On a whim, I tried System Restore, but it said the restore files were missing.

A:Virus reset computer to factory conditions, could use some advice

Honestly, I don't think there is anything you can do, unless somehow the virus has just masked everything from you, but that would have to be a very intelligent virus. More likely it just completely deleted everything. Might consider changing antiviruses in the future and attempting to be a bit more careful on what you download off the internet or sites you visit.

For the future, there are ways to make an image of your HDD so that if something like this were to happen, it could easily be replaced: Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

I'm sorry that this happened, sounds like a truely nasty worm

Is it possible to reset my computer to factory settings without any access to the administrator part of my computer? I lost my password so the only access I have on my computer is to my guest account. If not , is there a way to reset my password without knowing my current password?

A:Lost Password/Reset Computer to Factory Settings

Is it possible to reset my computer to factory settings without any access to the administrator part of my computer?Click to expand...

Guess it depends on what you mean by "administrator part." If you mean that you lost your BIOS password you're pretty much out of luck. But since you mention your "guest account" I'm guessing that you mean you can boot Windows. So, boot to the Recovery partition or to your Recovery DVDs or CDs to do the "recover/reset/restore to factory defaults." You can find specifics on how to do so on the PC manufacturer's web site and/or in documentation you got with it.

A window keeps popping up saying I need to set it that way?? So I click it any way, and that's when a svchost starts to go through the roof.
Problem #2, that is mentioned about. This svchost, that points back to system 32. Once activated ( how ever it gets that way, other then what I mentioned above ) Then goes sky high, to the point I fear the computer will start to fly off my desktop. It's shot up as high as 1,500,000Ks, and even peaked up near 2,400,000 K while trying to update last night. So I finally just shut the computer down. Standard problem now on clean installs of Windows 7. You should download and install IE11 and .NET 4.6.1 before proceeding. If you do an advanced search in BC for Windows 7 update problems you will see you are not alone. There is a convenience rollup package that has all updates from SP1 to April 2016.
