Fatal system failure-Acer laptop

Q: Fatal system failure-Acer laptop

I have an acer laptop, and it will not boot up. It displays a blue screen and says Fatal system failure. Is this realy a fatal system failure?

Preferred Solution: Fatal system failure-Acer laptop

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have tried a few of the diagnostic tools but the problem I have is the system doesn't stay on long enough to complete the checks I get through to about 60% on both the RAM test and Hard Drive tests then my monitor states that there's no signal and its as if the computer has gone to sleep, I can still see that the fans are running and can also hear that the hard drive is working, After I receive the no signal message on the screen the only way I can power off the computer is by holding the power button I have been at this for around 2 weeks now and am now at my wits end as to what the problem could be I have even removed the motherboard battery and memory left it for a few minutes then reinserted them to reset the motherboard nothing seems to work any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks for anyone who can take the time to help

Edit:- Managed to complete Hard Drive test everything was ok and have ruled out the monitor as I have tried with another.

After being infected by a variant of the Virut virus it was nessecary to reformat my pc/harddrive (see thread : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic210714.html).But after doing this I have a new problem and it was suggested to post it here. After the reformat XP won't boot.Just get Compaq start screen then XP standard loading screen the loading bar animation runs a few times then computer seemingly restarts and goes back to compaq start screen-then windows xp-then restarts. And just keeps on looping like this. After turning off the automatic reboot i get this error message'c000021a fatal system error'Any ideas what I can do in order to complete reformat/repair xp? thanks.

A:Compaq laptop 'c000021a fatal system error'

There is some information missing here, if you were able to turn off the automatic restart then you were able to boot in either normal or safe mode. If you can boot into either of these run chkdsk /r.Start> Run and type in chkdsk /r (please notice the space between the k and the/) and then click on OK.A black page with white printing will appear, type in Y, and click on Enter key.Chkdsk will run when the computer restarts.

When I attempt to boot my laptop, which is running Windows 7 OS, it bluescreens and I get the following message: "STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The verificaion of a KnownDLL failed. system processes terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000020 (0x00331290 0x00000000). I have tried doing a system restore but it tells me that I have no restore points and that since I am running it within a limited diagnostic capacity that it cannot be undone, which is fine as long as it is a restore. The problem is that it won't let me do that. I should also note that I have no external hard drive and for some reason booting the "Last Known Good Configuration" will not work, either. I should probably mention that I am unable to boot in Safe Mode.Details:Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOfflineProblem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385Problem Signature 03: unknownProblem Signature 04: 21200344Problem Signature 05: AutoFailoverProblem Signature 06: 8Problem Signature 07: BadDriverOS Version: 6.1.7600. Use F8 at the very start of power up to access the advanced screen, choose "repair your computer" from the list, this will load windows recovery environment, if it tries to do an automatic repair, cancel it if you can and let RE load, then choose "Command prompt" from the list of tools. .     try running a system file checker as described in the link below, it may repair the problem file, once SFC is complete restart the pc normally. http://mikemstech.blogspot.com/2011/12/how-to-perform-offline-system-integrity.html

Hello all. I have a old acer laptop that I use for work, series 5100 running XP. Its been working fine no problems at all! I usually let it got to sleep and tap keyboard and it comes back on, maybe not recomended however its been like this for years restart it every few days.

Came to it this morning and it didnt wake up, so i turned off and on after the Acer logo sign it boots up and the pxe-e61 media test failure check cable & pxe-m0f exiting PXE ROM comes up on screen, the hard drive is making a weird clicking noise...now ive done research and I think the hard drive is dead. I can live with that but can i access any of the data, ill be gutted if not, pics etc, i could do with my emails to. Long shot i know

Thanks in advance,

A:acer laptop pxe-e61 media test failure check cable

From what you're saying, it's a good bet the hard drive has died.

If your pictures and other personal data are so important, you should've had it backed up to reliable external media BEFORE something happened to your computer.

I wouldn't give you much hope of retrieving it now.

Hopefully, someone else here has a "miracle solution".

Okay, so a couple of days ago I was messing with adjusting the computer time in the bios on my norm computer(info on profile). I didn't feel like waiting for it to restart for something so I just held down the power button. Well, I ended up having to do this several times until I tried to turn on the computer again. It acted like it was going to start up but the screen never lit up and it just beeped a little error code or something at me. It went something like....BEEEEEEP..BEEP-BEEP. After this no matter how long you wait the screen never lights up. Can any one help me with this? It's a family computer so I'm kind of desperate to fix it. This is my last try before I'll probably have to take it to someone. Emails on the subject are welcome.Thanks..

I am self taught on a Vista laptop over the past 5 years. Last year I was given an Acer 1640Z laptop which has the XP OS, and have kept it up to date for a relative. Today I pressed the wrong button which started to wipe the XP. I switched off immediately, however, I now cannot get it to boot up, or even boot from a Macrium Reflect rescue DVD. The message on screen is that the file is missing or corrupt,i.e.- Windows root\system 32\hal.dll

It looks like any remedy will be too technical for me (70yrs )

DO NOT THINK I have posted this in the incorrect forum, why I am posting here is the Acer laptop has an official sticker on it, quoting " Designed for Windows XP - Windows Vista Capable."

The question is can I convert the Acer from XP to Vista, since I still have the disks which came with the Dell Vista laptop when I bought it new ?

Hoping for some positive guidance in ths matter.

A:Acer Laptop XP system - crashed.

That error is a bad one to get because it indicates very low level corruption. You will have to reinstall XP. The hard drive will probably have to be reformatted. You can't use a copy of Vista that came with a dell on an Acer so unless you can find a retail copy of Vista you are stuck with XP or Linux. By now it will be too late to get the Vista disks from Acer but you can try.

Hey folks, thanks a ton in advance for any help or suggestions given. I guess my old account was deleted, but I previously joined/donated for some help received. Regardless, I have a friends Acer laptop I am attempting to help her restore as usable. Acer Aspire 6930Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5800 (2.0GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)1244MB Mobile Graphics Accelerator 4500MHD3 GB DDR2320GB HDDWindows VistaWhen you boot it, it pretty much stays in the boot screen.....does no more. She got the computer from Best Buy, and they set up 3 recover disks. When you try to run the 1st of 3, I select the language....then a prompt comes up to ask me what I want to do. As you can see below, I cannot select "restore from backup". I then click to "restore to default" and then I get this error message......I searched the error message, and found others who've experienced the exact same issue. What they discovered is that the computer would not utilize the recovery disks if there was an existing partition. So the folks with the same problem as I, downloaded the Ultimate Boot Disk to recover their computers. When I do that, I got a message in BIOS saying "No operating system found".This whole message....I can follow directions very well, and I am a fairly familiar with computers....but not enough to solve this one. I appreciate anyones time thrown in to try and find a fix or a final resolution (if the HD is fubar). Darren

Hi there. My computer is really startin to piss me off.
Whenever I turn it on, the power light comes on, the CD drive and DVD drive start up, but no beep, and the POST code is FF. I have not made any changes in my system for a few months, and it's been running fine up until now. I cannot boot from CD, DVD, or floppy. I'm at a total loss.
Here's my system specs:
AMD Athlon 64
EPoX 9NDA3J nForce 3 Ultra Mobo
1 60GB HD
1 10GB HD
Radeon 9200 128MB

I've been reading up about the POST code FF, and i've found numerous versions of the same answer: it's dead. Either add-on-card failure, mobo failure, or jsut general, all-around deadness.
Can anybody help me? or should I just send back the mobo to EPoX?

Hate to have you send a good MoBo out.
Power down and unplug power cord.
Open the box, start checking everything.
power connectors, data cables,reboot
re-seat all devices
video card, ram, sound etc.
clean it out dust.
If no help then try a different video card.reboot
How much ram and how many sticks?
If more then one, pull one out then switch them.reboot

I have an Acer Travelmate 4200 that got a drink spilled on it last night. It spilled all over the keyboard, so we took apart the top section of the keyboard to clean it out and dried it upside down last night to get any remaining liquid out.

Now the computer will not load. The green power light comes on and it acts like it is trying to read the DVD drive but then it does nothing. The fan comes on as well. But no screen or anything else.

Please help, this computer has the research for a thesis and it is very crucial to school.

A:Acer Laptop wont start operating system now!!!!

Aparently you have tried to make the laptop as dry as possible, but things can still be fried inside it. I am afraid the latter is the case and that you will have to opt for a waranty claim, although water damage usually isn't covered in that.

To recover the data I suggest to remove the harddisk and put it in or connect it to another laptop... but bottomline is that I think your laptop is lost :-(

The reason why I had to restore my laptop, is due to me deleting some registry keys.
Why I delete the keys in the first place (made everything open in notepad), is due to me trying to delete zone alarm toolbar (nightmare)

Ok, so earlier today i decided that i needed to restore my laptop to factory default. As you can see from the title, i use an acer laptop which means i used the acer Erecovery software. All went well at first, although it took a stangely long time at a screen which said "setup is starting." The problem now is, I am now stuck on the acer 'software installation screen!' It is stuck at 41/48 where it is trying to install clear.fi v1.0. I think i heard the sound of an error earlier which worries me as i dont want to force restart my laptop as it clearly says not to do that and doing this caused my hard-drive to break last time!
I have been on this screen for about 2 hours now, and will leave it overnight if i have to. I just need to know what to do if it does not fix!

Have you categorically rejected the idea of doing a clean install, as opposed to a recovery to factory specs via the Acer software?

Acer software and support being what it is, I'm not surprised by your predicament and don't have a solution to that other than to wait as long as you can stand to see if it sobers up.

I was hoping that someone may be able to provide some advice re a small problem I have. Since my laptop died and I've rebuilt it. The time is not correct on it. When I power on the laptop the time is wrong and I then reset it to the correct time. If I leave it on for a few hours it seems to lose time if this makes sense. I believe the CMOS battery controls the time when the laptop is switched off and this could be the problem, but I thought that once the system was fired up the time was controlled by the operating system. Is this correct?

Also if it's the CMOS battery that needs replacing is there anyway of knowing this is the issue before dismantling. Problem is that the location of this battery requires full dismantling and reassembly. Typical manufactures they put the CMOS battery in the most inaccessible place on my laptop.

Would anything other than the CMOS battery be responsible for this isue, could it be a virus or anything along these lines..

Any advice appreciated...

A:System running win7 losing time on my Acer 8930G laptop

No; actually that is where you are wrong. The CMOS battery keeps the date and time in tact at all times no matter whether the computer is on or off. The operating system just allows it to use the internet to check and set the time correctly. There probably is no virus; just the battery needs replacing. Which should be pretty simple. I believe you have to take off the top case to get to the system board and locate the cmos battery.

Hello. It's the second time when I come here.
First I had this problem - https://forums.techguy.org/threads/my-laptop-wont-boot-from-usb.1173499/
and now it got worse.
I don't know what happened to my Acer Aspire ES 14 (ES1-431-C8JZ). (I haven't dropped it or something like that)
When I turn it on, it stucks on Acer logo screen, and then I can't do anything.
I tried to restart it, same problem.
I tried to enter BIOS, Boot Manager, nothing works.
Then I disassembled it, reset bios, and again, nothing worked.
I made a bootable USB - Slax, I tought Linux could fix this, but it doesn't work. It doesn't boot. I tried to remove the hard drive so I can boot with Slax like this (I've heard about this feature of slax - to boot even without hard drive) but it won't pass the Acer logo.
It would be great if someone can tell me where is the problem or how to fix it. Thank you.

A:Laptop Acer won't load past Acer logo screen

Did you ever solve your previous thread?

It's possible that your hard drive is faulty, and it can't boot into Windows because of that.
I don't have any experience with Linux, so I can't confirm if Slax allows you to boot without a hard drive installed.

Do you have any spare hard drives lying around? If not, consider purchasing a low capacity one, installing Windows on it, and trying to boot then. If it still won't boot, then you didn't spend much money on the hard drive, and it'll narrow down your issue a little more.

Worst case scenario is there's something wrong with your motherboard (as per your other thread involving your USB ports).

The internal battery is warranted for one year and we are out of the warranty period. Besides the fact that 14 months seems like a kind of short time for the battery to completely fail, I was wondering if I should expect a complete system failure when the battery fails. I have replaced many notebook batteries in the past and I was always able to run the computer on AC power until I was able to replace the battery. Is that not the case with the internal battery on the T460? Sure, I can replace the battery but I don't want to order a $50 part and wait a week for it to be delivered only to find out that the battery is not really the problem. Both the internal and external batteries showed OK status the day before the machine went into brick mode. I this expected behavior? Can anyone comment on this?

Hello All Computer hardware wizards,
My Dell Notebook a Vostro 1500, 1.6Ghz 4G Ram, 250GB Hardrive and OS: Vista Home Edition, suddenly acted up yesterday.
1) At first my screen displayed random horizontal color lines (sort of blinking randomly). When that did not change after a few minutes, I 'hard' powered off the Laptop.
2) When I pushed power on, it dispalyed the LED's for Num Lock, Cap Lock and Scroll Lock. The Cap Lock LED was blinking and the Num Lock, Scroll LocK LED's remained continously on. SCREEN was completely black.....no display!
3) After about 30 seconds all 3 LED's shut off and computer went dead.

I repeated this several times. Took battery off, tried unplugging from 110V power etc. Still does the same as described in paragraph 3.

A:Screen Failure & Startup power failure. After 30 seconds laptop powers off

That doesn't sound too healthy!

How old is the laptop? If it is under warranty I would get it checked that way.

My initial thought, although not a certainty, would be a problem with the graphics card itself from your description.

Did you try any system restore points? It also never hurts to run chkdsk /r

Sounds like your hard drive went belly up
Go into your BIOS and see if it even shows up there
You can go to the support site of the hard drive manufacturer and in their drivers and downloads section they will have a diagnostic utility. You can burn to a CD and run it on your computer

Please Help.
I just configured a new system based on an ASUS P4R800-V Delux MoBo, MAXTOR 120 GB SATA HD, P4 3.2G processor, 1GB of Ultra 512MB PC3200 DDR 400 ram, Plextor internal DVD burner. The initial load of XP PRO Service Pack 1a completed without issues.
Next, I installed Windows component IIS with the FTP option selected. Nothing else. Upon reboot, just after standard BIOS initialization messages and just after the start of loading XP, I got the following message:
STOP:C000021A {Fatal System Error}
The session manager initialization process terminated unexpectedly with a status of oxc0000022 ( 0x00000000 0x00000000 )
At first it was very difficult to see and detect because the message only appears for a brief instance, then the system automatically reboots.
This sequence of events repeats over and over (message, reboot, message, reboot?.) without intervention.
I reloaded the OS and repeated the IIS/FTP install (several times). Each time to the same result as stated above.
At first , I thought it was a MoBo problem. So I purchase a ASUS P4P800E Delux and installed a Gforce FX5200 graphics card. Same Bad Results!
Why does installing IIS and FTP services have this effect? I have successfully built other systems and installed these services without this error condition. Any suggestions?
Thanks, in advance, for your help.

a similar problem posted here.coolbreeeze, (the fog's lifting) I think you need system drivers installed before you try to load anything else. Run this program to find the appropriate online links if you don't have a driver CD.Even if you do, it might help to investigate updated ones. www.snapfiles.com/get/everest.htmlIf nothing else it'll confirm what your new system "looks" like in great detail. Please post again, as others may have a better handle on your exact dilemma.

My father-in-law’s laptop keeps randomly restarting itself (I already unchecked the restart error option) and it now has the following messages:

1st Message

STOP: 0x000000A (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x80530022)

Beginning of dump of physical memory

The 2nd error code is:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows subsystem system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xC0000005 (0x77f83aed 0x010cf184).
The system has been shut down.

The laptop had several other issues, I think more from a really, really inexperienced user (sigh) so I did a clean reinstall on the hard drive. While the other issues are solved, it still has this problem. The computer can be off all night but when rebooting either will have problems all day or none at all. I have almost all of the Windows updates done. The driver updates are current.
The system information is as follows:
Presario 1500 Notebook, Model 1525US
40 G Hard Drive
513 MB
Pentium 4 Processor
ATI Mobility Radeon 7500
I am trying to find out if this is a software or hardware issue. Thanks so much!!

What version of Windows are you running?

Are you trying to install Linux (dual boot) by chance?

When did the problem start (make any changes?) Give us some more info, and perhaps we can help.

This evening my sister was on her computer and when she shut it down the Windows firewall poped up and the BSOD appeared with the message:

"STOP:c000021a (Fatal System Error) Windows Logon Process System Process Terminated Unexpectedly" followed by a bunch of zeros.

I rebooted it and the Windows Media Center splash screen appeared, the OS went through the motions of loading, but instead of going to the desktop the same BSOD & message showed up.
I tried "Last Good Configuration" and the same thing happened. Fortunately, I was able to boot into safe mode. The drivers stop loading at .agp, and about 5 seconds later the the Safe Mode desktop appears. In Safe Mode I went to Device Manager and everything looked OK.
Actually what happens is I boot up the computer, the loading screen pops up, then I hear a "click" from inside the case (maybe the hard drive or motherboard), then the BSOD and message appears.
Frankly right now I don't know where to start to fix the problem. I tried diagnostic CDs, unplugged peripheral devices, I even tried a repair with the install CD but it keeps asking me for an administrator password and there is no admin password for that computer. I have worked with PCs for 9 years but this problem has me baffled.

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop which I bought last year and has windows vista. I was using my laptop last night, and when I got up this morning there was a blue screen which reads:
stop: c000021a {fatal system error}
the verification of knowDLL failed. system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000020 (0x996ab588 0x00000000)
The system has been shut down.

I cannot do anything with it unless I manually shut it down. Then it goes to the screen that gives me the option of either launching startup repair or start normally.

If I Launch startup repair it does the scan. Then says: "startup cannot repair this computer automatically" and asks me if i want to send information about the problem and gives me a list of problem details:
01: AutoFailover
02: 6.0.6001.18000.6.0.6001.18000
03: 6
04: 458759
05: NoRootCause
06: CorruptVolume
07: 0
08: 1
09: Chkdsk
10: 0

It then gives me the option to finish and shut down, view diagnostic and repair details, or view advanced options for system recovery or support which are:
startup repair

I receive this message when I start up:

The Session Manager Initialization system process was terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000026c (0x00000000 0x00000000).

There is no possible way for me to get past this screen when I turn my laptop on. I tried using an XP SP2 disk and have it loaded and all my items are still on my C drive. However I have no idea what I would need to do to revert back to SP3. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
