I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Around 2 days ago the connection to internet on my computer suddenly failed. First I thought it was a router/modem issue, but I soon discovered this wasn't the case. I checked the ethernet cable, it's light was green and so was the router's light. I plugged the cable into my xbox, it worked completely fine.

So I started searching for clues on my computer, and after a while found out that all my network adapters have a yellow exclamation mark, and error code 31. This includes my main adapter:

Intel Pro 100/VE Network Connection

And all of my:

WAN Miniports

Searching the internet, I found some answers but they didn't work:

-I tried rebooting my router, entire network and computer
-I tried ipconfig /renew, it said that there wasn't anything available on my computer to perform that command
-I tried updating the drivers for my network adapters, but they said all my drivers are up-to-date
-I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the driver software, but it wouldn't do this
-I tired disabling Ipv6, but it wouldn't do this.
-I cleaned my entire computer with a registry cleaner and a Hard drive cleaner, scanned for spyware, malware, viruses and trojans. Nothing detected.

Can anyone help me? I would really appreciate it.

Hi and welcome to TSF please go to your computer makers support website for your model and update the driver from there, do not use the update driver feature in the device manager, or windows update as they do not always give you the most recent driver,if need be post the make and model of your computer here and someone will try to track down the driver

I have two annoying issues with my new ThinkPad X1 Tablet (Model: 20JB001DGE, running Windows 10 Pro, Build: 1709; 16299.371): When trying to create a new folder on a network share on my Synology NAS I get the error message:If I click 'Try Again' the message remains. When 'Cancel' is clicked I got the new folder with the default name 'New Folder'.Sometimes this also happens when renaming a folder or file. The only way to get rid of it, is restarting the tablet.I have already been in contact with the Synology Support. They checked the NAS, which seems to be okay. This can be confirmed by using another Windows tablet with the same Win 10 build, which can access the NAS shares and create folder without any issues.I also contacted the Microsoft Support. They adviced me to disable all non-Windows services and all auto start items.I uninstalled my Antivirus and Firewall-Tool Avast Premier, using Windows Defender only now.We also tried out different SMB configurations. (activating SMB v1 only on both NAS an PC vs. SMB v2/3, which is the recommended and more secure configuration.)Nothing of this helped so far.The tablet is connected to the DVI port of a monitor via the USB 3 Ultra Dock.Every once in a while some items are displayed larger than normal or seem blurred, for example when opening windows explorer. This screenshot should illustrate the difference. I reformatted my computer because after installing service pack 1 and other updates from Feb 14th my computer has been having issues getting a dhcp from my router. I have a windows 7 home premium 32 bit laptop that works just fine. I also have a ubuntu machine that pulls an address from this router and an xbox 360. From what I've read other places online it appears this is a bug with dhcp that appears some time around windows 7 service pack 1 x64. Is this update the one causing issues with the dhcp problems I'm having? Should I uninstall service pack 1 or reformat and not let windows install this? I'm a little confused as to what this problem is. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

A:Dhcp issues and network connectivity issues since windows 7 x64 sp1

I've never heard of a service pack creating a DHCP problem.

You might want to try resetting your router either by pushing in the reset button "hold in for ten seconds" or you can reset the router from the router's service page or unplug the router for ten minutes then plug it back in again.

Just because other machines can pick up the DHCP address doesn't mean it's working correctly for all machines. Routers can limp along sometimes but the functionality becomes erratic until you reset them.

Or you can try using the ipconfig commands, such as the ones outlined in the link below.
ipconfig - Windows Command Line Utility

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305, running Vista SP1, that locks up and freezes at random time intervals from the time the computer connects to the internet.

I have run multiple virus scans using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, in both Normal and Safe modes that have determined that the system is indeed clean of malware.

I believe the Network Adapters are the cause for the system freezing based on information found after running ipconfig /all. There are multiple Adapters that, based on internet searches, have something to do with the iP6 protocol.

Also, it is worth noting that there is an issue with the Device Manager. The Device Manager will not allow me to view Properties on any of the installed devices.
Subsequently, I can't uninstall the network devices for Windows to re-install to 'reset' the network settings.

* sigh*

Any help anyone would have would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all,
I've been experiencing some strange issues that lead me to believe I may have some sort of infection. Here are the symptom's I'm seeing:
Last night my network was having many, many network issues. I logged into my router and saw that my computer had 400 active connections. I was able to get it down by shutting down applications such as Chrome, Netflix, Spotify, Blizzard Battle.Net, instant messenger, Steam, and Origins. I ended up shutting my computer down and decided to look again in the morning.
With the issues going on, web site access was happening very intermittently.
When I got on my PC to see what the problem was I had a notice that the Origin client (EA game client) couldn't log on because it was logged on in another location. I've only got it installed on this computer.
After the PC was shut down I reset my router and modem and connection seemed to be going fine.
I woke up this morning and checked me email on my phone and found a message saying that my twitter password had been changed. I fired up my twitter app and was still able to connect. I went to twitter to try and force a log on and was able to connect with my old password. I looked through my feed an saw that my account had sent out about 20 spam messages in the middle of the night. I changed my password to be safe, but who knows if that'll do anything.
Anyway, I'm really worried something is going on. Can someone help me out?

I am gravely in need of your help and assistance.

We have a problem with our logon and startup to our Windows 7 Enterprise system. We have more than 3000 Windows Desktops situated in roughly 20+ buildings around campus. Almost every computer on campus has the problem that I will be describing. I have spent over one month peering over etl files from Windows Performance Analyzer (A great product) and hundreds of thousands of event logs. I come to you today humbled that I could not figure this out.

The problem as simply put our logon times are extremely long. An average first time logon is roughly 2-10 minutes depending on the software installed. All computers are Windows 7, the oldest computers being 5 years old. Startup times on various computers range from good (1-2 minutes) to very bad (5-60). Our second time logons range from 30 seconds to 4 minutes.

We have a gigabit connection between each computer on the network. We have 5 domain controllers which also double as our DNS servers.

Initial testing led us to believe that this was a software problem. So I spent a few days testing machines only to find inconsistent results from the etl files from xperfview. Each subset of computers on campus had a different subset of software issues, none seeming to interfere with logon just startup.

So I started looking at our group policy and located some very interesting event IDís.

I've just had a new PC built for me, for the first time rather than build it myself I aid a local shop, and it's a pretty nice machine. They got windows up and running, when I got it back and lugged it in I don't even remember it asking about whether my network was home, work or public (I may be mistaken about that)

A lot of the networking is fine, by adding 'everyone' to the share, and joining the same homegroup as my laptop, I managed to get each to see their desktops, so I'm up and running with most of my workflow. But there's a couple of things not quite right about the network:

I've got a Xerox Phaser 60 network printer. It's got a simple 'walk-up' installer where you get the windows software into listening mode and then on the printer's menu initiate the connection. This doesn't find the printer. Even choosing the manual option of inputting the ip won't find it. So I've had to connect it with USB, not the end of the world, but shows that something's not right.

I have a lot of media on a dlna server in my home. Setting up kodi to find it, the SMB devices didn't show the host. Though, manually typing the IP in this case did find it. Lucky I knew the IP. Weird

And trying to FTP to my website fails too. It says "EAI_FAIL - Nonrecoverable failure in name resolution" Yet the same settings on my laptop (imported from the laptop) connects fine.

Surely there's something not quite right. Is there a way to reset all the network connection settings to default 'out of... Read more

Can anyone help me with an issue I am having with my local network?
I connected a Western Digital 500GB USB 3.0 HDD to my Netgear N300 router via the USB readyshare connection so that everyone on the network can have access... BUT
While I can see and access the (readyshare) HDD from my laptop running win7, I cant see or access the (readyshare) HDD from my HTC Android phone or my WDTV Live Media Hub.
The WDTV is connected to the router via Ethernet and successfully connects to the internet, all other devices connect using wireless access. I have the latest firmware.
I performed a search the other day through google and it appears I may need to download an app for the phone to have access to the (readyshare) HDD... ?
I can connect the (readyshare) HDD directly to the WDTV, but it means swapping and changing everytime I want access from a different device.
I have been unable to locate any documentation from Netgear or Western Digital. I would love to smooth out the crinkles on this one as I have plans to upgrade the network storage and incorporate a new desktop into the network.
Any ideas??

I have 3 machines on my home network. I just updated to a new router. Two of the machines work well and one of them has no internet access at boot. I need to disable the adapter and trouble shoot the connection before it magically functions again. I have not had any issues with this computer until now. I have moved the connection on the new router to another port and it made no difference. As I can fix the connection from WIN7, I believe that it is something wrong with the OS.

A:Network issues: no network at boot

Problems like this can almost always be solved by either updating the firmware on the router or finding a better more compatible network driver for the machine. I'd need more info on the router "brand and model number" and the machines specs to help you more with this problem.

Perhaps an ipconfig /all screen shot would get us started on this problem?

There is nothing "wrong" with the OP system, it just seems that way to the less informed.

Hi All,
Problem is the Vista Machine connecting to the shared HPG85xi AIO on the network.
I am working on installing a Vista Home Premium Gateway PC on an existing network that consists of a 98 machine, two XP home PC's and an XP home laptop.
With the exception of the laptop, all PC's are connected via ethernet cabling to a Linksys WRT54G sharing cable internet access.
One of the XP home machines and the 98 are connected to a Dlink switch which is wired to the Linksys router. This XP home machine has the HP connected locally and shared.
All PC's have printer and file sharing enabled. All PC's are in the same workgroup, all PC's can see and share files bidirectionally. Including the Vista machine. All PC's with the exception of the Vista machine can connect and print to the HP.
When you try to connect the Vista to the HP, and it doesn't matter how (using Network and connect, using Printers to add a printer, using add a Printer to set up a new network printer and entering the path...whatever), the error message is "Access is Denied" before you can even install the drivers.
I used my IBM laptop running XP Pro to serve the HP via the USB connection (same as how the XP Home PC is doing it), the Vista can connect and print no problem; so it would seem there is an issue with the access rights in the XP Home PC sharing the HP.
I also tested the Vista PC on another network that runs XP Pro and it connected and printed with NO issues.

I have a problem that when I joined my new tablet to the network it connects normally but it has some issues. It says that I am connected with limited connectivity. Also when doing an ipconfig /all it says that the DNS Server is and there are no DNS Servers on the device. What could have happened is that along time ago there was a DC named exactly like my new device.

I renamed the device and still I am experiencing the same issues.

Another weird thing is that I can browse the internet easily but then when for example I go and log in to Skydrive it says that I do not have an internet connection.
Any help?

Hi can anyone help me?

My network has been playing up, it used to work fine, all connections were seen in 'My Networks' but now nothing is showing.

I used to have a full version of AVG antivirus but this was messing with the system so I uninstalled it and went for the AVG free version instead (which I had previously), since then my network hasn't worked. My friend tells me that this sometimes happens and that some regestry files may have been removed when I unistalled. He since helped me find a program that help me repair the registry which worked, but for some reason my antivirus switchs off and is unable to be found.

I then had to do a system restore to fix the problem. The main issue is that I have checked all connections and have pinged the network and all is fine (no packet loss). I've checked my router (netgear) and on the attached devices tab it states that my computer and the my other attached devices are UNKNOWN but connected, this could be the cause of the issue.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about and most important of all can you help?

My network got changed, accidentally, by my wife. I reset everything and used USB to transfer the settings to my laptop and hers. My laptop connects, and my iPhone connects. Her laptop will not connect. The desktop is connected directly to the router, running Windows 7 completely updated. My laptop is running Vista Home, completely updated. Her laptop is running Vista Home completely updated.

It keeps saying that it timed out, or the settings for the network (transferred via USB) are not valid. It did connect once, but she reset her network adapter and it won't work again.

This network was set up through the Windows 7 network wizard, and security is set up there. The last computer was running XP and we set up the security through the Belkin Wireless N Router.

Should I go back to running the wireless through the router setup page, and disregard the desktop settings? If so, how do I delete the network, currently set up, and create the new one through the router?

Hi all,
I'm currently having some issues with my home network. I cannot connect to the Internet through my laptop (running Windows 8 Pro), but other computers and devices are connecting to the Internet just fine.
The PC says it is connected to the network with a full strength connection, but my adapter settings say that I am not receiving any packets.
My Network and Sharing Center says "Unknown" where it usually has my network adapter listed, and says "The dependency service or group failed to start."
Google Chrome says "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET" when I try to navigate to any websites.
When I run Windows Network Diagnostics, it either says it can't identify the problem, or it says that it cannot detect proxy settings for the network, which I have cleared.
What I have done so far:
I have reset my TCP/IP through the C:\Windows\Inf folder by modifying the nettcpip.inf file.
I have run netsh winsock reset and netsh int ipv4 reset.
I have scanned for malware that could be causing the issue, and there is nothing.

I just joined this forum because of a problem me and some other residents of my apartment had. However the problem always solves itself.
The essence of the problem are the following errors: Wireless Network Connection doesn't have Valid IP Configuration and problem with the driver for Wireless Adapter. There also is no way to change the public network to a home network.
Some additional info, we have 3 routers for the 3 floors. And currently only one of the residents is facing this problem (one who just moved in), but we all have had these connection problems and they all solved themselves.
I hope someone could help us, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello and welcome Gish mat some system specs for the affected machine would be really helpful it could just be something as simple as a driver for the adaptor.
In fat it is always helpful to add specs for your gear as we are always faced with the problem of asking for same and then trying to track down solutions.
System Info - See Your System Specs

Another good site for getting the specs in detail is HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download (get the right bit version) and then run it - close the right hand window and them click on the devoices for details - see my pics for doing that.

Once the device has a brand and model number we can work from there.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

First off, what make and model is your router; some routers (such as my secondary router) have a very low number of clients that are allowed to be connected at one time. It also may have some connection to how your router broadcasts (A, B, G or N) and how far away from it you are.

Please can you also tell us what OSs the other PCs are running and how they are connected.

As a general tip without knowing too much about your network, have you made sure that your WiFi card drivers are up to date? If you haven't it might be worth doing.

Hey everybody,

i just got a new PC last friday with 64bit vista ultimate and i have been having alot of problems with hooking it up to my home network. At first, i would plug it in and it would only let me get into "local area connection" local access only. I did a repair install which got rid of all updates that the company had put on, so its a fresh SP1 install. Now i can sometimes get it to connect to the internet, but the speed is ridiculously slow, like if i look at the antivirus updaters for speed (i cant access speedtest.net cuz it says i dont have flash or w.e. and it wont let me download it cuz the site wont load) i get max speeds of...4 kb/s...
PLZ help, i know its not just me because i was talking to some IT guys in town and they just set up their first x64 vista systems and they are all having similar issues as in not being able to connect externally, only to the local network.

Are you getting connected to your router? What is your IP address? Do you have DNS entries.

on start search type CMD and enter
ipconfig/all in the box. What is returned for IP, subnet mask, DNS servers.

Hopefully someone can help here. a PC on our network lost it's network connection. In the Network IP settings all our PC's are set to obtain IP address automatically and if I manually set these it regains network connectivity. I have checked on another PC when doing IPCONFIG /RELEASE and it release the settings & when requested IPCONFIG /RENEW the domain server re-issued an IP address so there appears no DCHP issue on the server. Also if the IP settings are made manually, when the PC reboots it goes back to automatically obtain IP address. I have a sneaky suspicionj there maybe some at large worming around even through Super Anti Spyware, Malware Bytes & AVG (paid Network version) can't find anything.....Heeellllp!

A:Network / IP Issues

would you check the status of the following services
what version of windows do you have ?
post back the status - started/stopped and automatic/manual
Check your Services are Started on all PCs:

COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
Computer Browser
DHCP Client
DNS Client
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
TCP/IP Netbios helper
Wireless Zero Configuration (XP wireless configurations only)
WLAN AutoConfig (Vista wireless configurations only)

Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic (or perhaps manual).

If a service is not running, open it's properties and check the dependencies. Check each of the dependencies and see which one is preventing the service from running.

Checking the event log is also a good idea here, there may be clues to what is failing.
Start > control panel > administrative tools > event Viewer

Hi, so I've been having problems with my desktop dropping network connections with my home linux file server. Anytime I go to stream a file from it, it may play for 1-5 minutes then dies and the program playing it, wmp or vlc, locks up and I have to kill it from the task manager. It'll play files from another computer just fine and my laptop and sister's desktops play the files from the linux server no problem. I generally play 480 and 720p files but I know it'll handle 1080p video. I also booted a linux live cd on the desktop to narrow the problem down to software or hardware and it also played the same files without a hiccup so that tells me something is wrong with windows.

I've also updated the nic drivers but that didn't help. I'm on the verge of wiping windows and starting over if I can't avoid it. I started noticing the problem last sunday morning when I attempted to play a 720p vid from national geographics. It played for 5 minutes then the connection just drops and occasionally, other network activity on the system would stop too but it's mostly isolated with my server. I don't know what else to do short of reinstall. The desktop has been completely updated.

Problem desktop: windows 7 hp
Sister's desktop: windows 7 hp
Laptop: windows 8 hp
server: ubuntu 10.04

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Are there any other programs locking up or hanging?
You might want to check the temps of your hardware. Install Speccy and keep an eye on the temps while you are trying to video stream.

Having some strange issues with my network, on the wired end, Machine randomly see or cant see eachother in the workgroup. On the wireless side, many times when you try and get on the network, you will get limited or no connectivity because an IP address could not be recieved.

Not sure exactly what type or types of servers will solve my issue, but need to fix this fast and try to get my network as stable as possible.

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key:

Hello, all!
Trying to fix my wife's computer (Toshiba Satellite Ultrabook, purchased 08/2013, Windows 8 as a standalone workstation) - I haven't been on it before; not very Windows 8 fluent.
Can't load anything in IE or Firefox, including local router web interface
Can't RDC or FTP
Any update / download fails
CAN ping websites
On log in, balloon appears:
Failed to connect to windows service; Windows couldn't connect to the Windows All-User Install Agent service
Service isn't running, but starts on my command without issue. It's set for Automatic startup. Starting service does not resolve any issues.
Ran SFC... From cbs log:
DIRSD OWNER WARNING – about 600 instances, mostly in C:\windows
"Ignoring duplicate ownership for directory…" another 600 instances
I'm not really sure if this indicates anything serious.
My wife's account is an Admin account. While in her account, I created a new user account, also admin. This new account has the same issues as my wife's.
I don't know of any other problems with this computer.  Nothing indicates malware or virus (no redirects, popups, etc).
I'm starting to run out of ideas.  Thanks!

First thing, run FRST http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/  Then run Service Scanner http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-service-scanner/  After those two, run ADW http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/  If still having issues, then run Minitoolbox http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/ and post the results.

Ended up with a rather frustrating problem a couple of days ago regarding connecting to the net.
Apparently the connection decided to die all of a sudden by itself for some unknown reason and I've been unable to connect to the net since then. I've not made any changes to anything whatsoever, no recent windows or firewall updates, AVG update was normal as always, no major updates on that front - I was kinda just gaming a bit via Steam when it all of a sudden happened. Thing is that after having checked the network card, cable, scanned for viruses/malware, done a HJT check and so on, the darn thing still refuses to connect to the net. Weird part is though that it does get an IP and is able to contact the DNS server - just that packets don't really seem to be received properly. They just trickle in one packet every few seconds. Sending packets out doesn't seem to be a problem. I have called my ISP and they do seem to get a signal from me so I am rather clueless as to what could be wrong. I cannot tracert or ping anything past my card ( responds just fine so the card itself works at least). Tried uninstalling ZoneAlarm as that was the only firewall I've been using but obviously the problem wasn't there.

I've tried pretty much everything now save from a total OS re-installation which I'd rather avoid.

Thing is that the net died like this a couple of times the day before all of this happened as well but this lasted for a few minute... Read more

While using regular internet n i check Task Manager under Networking my max network usage is at 0.92% constant but fluctuates higher sometimes e.g when streaming a video, Link Speed is 100MB my bandwidth is 1MB. My thing is that when i run a VPN program which uses local area connection2 network usage is about 0.96-0.98% for LAN1 n about 9-11% on LAN2(uses 10MB Link Speed) meaning i am receiving about the same and a bit more speed. How if possible can i get 0.96-0.98% speed from LAN1 without using VPN program.

Think of it this way 1mb is 10% of 10mb, and 1% of 100mb.

Hi guys, sorry if this has already been asked and answered. Here is my problem.

This only started within the last week.

1st machine = (A)
2nd Machine = (B)

(B) can see (A) in Workgroups, but (B) cannot access (A).

(A) has full access to (B)

My Printer is shared through (A), and (B) could still print through (A) right up until I removed the shared drivers off (B). Then when I tried to find the shared printer on (A) it has the same access not granted error.

All firewalls are disabled and the only thing that has happen in the last week, on both machines, is an XP update. I don't want to do a reinstall, is there any way to fix this??

A:Network issues with XP

How are computers connected, hub, router, crossover??

Try run network wizard on both PCs. If they are without a DHCP server, make sure IP addresses are set correctly and both in same workgroup etc. You almost might have to disable netbios on one.

Sometimes the easiest way is to just format, normally inconvenient, but almost always solves the problem.

Hi:So let's see how the problem pc "views it's network connection.

From a Johnwill post on the Networking Forum
Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)

I wasn't sure which forum to put this in (Windows 7 or internal hardware) as I'm not entirely sure what the problem is. The problem is just what I state in the topic title, constant disconnects/reconnects. Not all the time though, as far as I'm aware it's only when playing online games(it's definitely noticeable while playing online games). However, this doesn't happen -every- time I'm playing an online game, though it does happen a lot. Other computers in my house do not appear to have any issues, it's just mine.

I realize that this is not enough information to solve this problem, so if you can tell me what information you need and I'll post it.

Thanks for any help!

I've been getting having a weird problem with my internet connection on my laptop, but I don't know what is causing it. It seems like it's gotta be either Vista, my wifi adapter, or my router.
I'll be online, and suddenly I'm unable to surf or connect to messenger, but my torrents keep running fine.
Firefox gives me an error about the website being correct, but being unable to connect to it, and windows messenger gives me an error about my network connection. I can't even log in to my router.
I can ping just fine, and I get a response from my router, from google and anything else I try, but the only way I can get back to surfing or messaging is to disconnect from my wireless network and reconnect. My roommate's computer is wired to the router and has no issues at all. The router is a dlink WBR-2310
My computer is set to pretty much ignore all power saving features when it's plugged in, and that hasn't changed in a while. I haven't installed any new software in the past few days. I did in fact connect a new external hard drive, but I don't see how that could be the problem.
My computer's been running fine, until last night when this happened suddenly. In fact, I was actually surfing when this happened.

A:Odd network issues

When my connection stops working, it appears as though open connections still function, but new ones will not. If I stop my torrents and restart them, they won't work either.
Reconnecting to my network doesn't fix the problem after all, it turns out all I can do is wait it out.
I can rule out the wifi card and the router because once my connection stops, connecting to internet via modem doesn't help. I can connect to the internet, but still can't do anything with my connection.
Now what could cause this to happen?
