I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm working with PS Cs2 and frustrated to no end with the clone tool. What am I doing wrong? No matter what I do I keep picking up the area around the image that I want to clone. This is what I'm doing. I've created a duplicate layer, checked align & sample all layers. I have clone tool set as a brush tip. I alt click what I want to clone, then create a new layer and drag my mouse until the image appears (also tried this without creating a new layer, same result). But what ever is around the image also appears. Like the attached image. I only want to clone the chicken. But the floor/straw as well as other chickens are showing up. Help please?

With Windows 8.1, I am now having problems displaying and importing jpegs.   They show in odd colors, with a lot of black in them.    This wasn't the case early on, but now jpegs are impossible to work with for me.   I
only use -- Windows Photo Viewer, and place them in WORD documents.  Nothing fancy.   I cannot find a resolution here or anywhere.  Can you help?
.....
This is crazy.  When I try to save the BAD image, it looks horrible (blue, purple, heavy black frame) on my screen in PHoto Viewer, but I import it here and it looks fine.  Please, help.

To all -

My first post in this forum, but I've been around the block a few times building my own machines (and for others), but a month ago i ended up springing for a dell xps 8300 desktop b.c i got a great deal on a scratch and dent system with an i7-2600 processor, 1.5tb drive, and an ATI 5770 1gb graphics card.
So long story short I've added one component and upgraded one existing component. The first was adding an SSD drive to the mix, which worked out wonderfully (i boot from power off to desktop in 13 seconds). Very pleased.
The second seemed to be just as successful...I replaced the stock PSU (460watts) with an Antec 650watt continuous power PSU (certified and all). Reconnected all the cables, crossed my fingers, turned on the power supply...got the green light on the motherboard so turned on the computer and all was fantastic!!!
The catch is..........I didn't notice until hours later i'd not heard a sound from the computer in quite some time. Tested by playing a few songs and nothing.

Here's where i got lost. In the "playback devices" (right clicking on the audio icon in the task manager tray) it shows the music playing (as in the levels are bouncing up and down). First thought - i'm an idiot and plugged my speakers into the wrong hole.....not the case. Second thought - speakers could be toast - not the case. Tested speakers on mp3 player and tested the audio cable by plugging headphones in the front audio ports (th... Read more

Last night, My MS Paint GUI went screwy.

It looks like it is out of Aero mode or something, but Aero troubleshooter found no problem & everything else is fine. I was having an issue with a video game for PC (full screen) which normally fiddles with the Windows theme, but I honestly dont know.

I dont like the adjusted look, and fear this is one of those simple problems with a insanely complex solution.

Thanks in advance, back later

Hi everybody,
since friday we have a strange problem with some clients and ARP answers. We notice that our switch recognize wrong MAC addresses on some ports.
We use wireshark to see what happens and we get the following:
5 clients:

172.30.71.6 (XX:XX:XX:F7:52:75)172.30.41.1 (XX:XX:XX:38:d1:a8)172.30.63.1 (XX:XX:XX:c2:b0:b9)172.30.14.1 (XX:XX:XX:88:c7:4f)172.30.59.1 (XX:XX:XX:7b:67:4d)
Wireshark runs on client 1 (172.30.71.6, promiscuous mod off)
Client 5 (172.30.59.1) send a broadcast arp question (who has 172.30.41.1 - tell 172.30.59.1) and client 1 (172.30.71.6) is sending ARP replies with src = XX:XX:XX: 38:d1:a8.

172.30.41.1 (XX:XX:XX:38:d1:a8) is offline (network cable removed) and 172.30.71.6 has no entry of 172.30.41.1 (XX:XX:XX:38:d1:a8) in his arp cache.
The clients run Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
Why we get these phenomenon and how can we solve it? Is there maybe a problem with some updates of the last patchday?

Thanks for the reply and kind regards

Bernd

My ISP (windstream) is claiming nothing is wrong when my town is having trouble connect to internet itself. I don't know about other towns, never go there. I am suppose to have 12 Mb and The most I have had in the past 2 weeks is 3. Friends have even less somehow. Usually 10AM-10PM the average is 300 Kb. I have to pause a video for 10 minutes to load a minute sometimes.

They claim nothing is wrong. Anyone translate that into something that can be wrong?

Situation 1
-------------
Hello. I had “music store card” [gift card] that I received as a birthday gift lying around so I figured let me it out. Anyway, I purchased 3 songs from iTunes.com. Attempted to burn them. It didn’t work I got some sort of write error on the CD.

While in main screen I clicked Edit > Preferences > Advance > Burning: Discovered that the settings were set to burn an Audio CD. However, I was using a Data CD. Is this why it didn’t work? Last I read up it should have worked. The disk was a CD-R Memorex Cool Color CD-R. This shouldn’t have proven to be a problem right?

This disk can’t be played in Xbox (original not Xbox 360).

Situation 2
-------------
In another situation I tried burning a copy of and an mp3-to-Audio-CD.

When copying the Audio-CD I was using Nero Burn Ultra Edition 6.6.1.4. Got the error message saying along the lines of “write fail, unable to finish end session.” Same thing happened when I was trying to make an mp3-to-Audio-CD, except I was using Microsoft Windows Media Player Version 10.0.

This disk can’t be played in Xbox (original not Xbox 360).

So what am I doing wrong? Here are my objectives:

1) Want to burn audio CDs that will play in cars, stereo systems, DVD players, Xbox, and Xbox360 – when I get it . If I keep purchasing music from iTunes.com, this may prove difficult?

2) What media should I use for what ty... Read more

I've run AVG and McAfee scans, and both say no viruses or malware were found.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.

When the trial period expires it becomes feature-limited freeware but is still worth keeping as a good on-demand scanner.

Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double click it to launch the set up program.
Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
Next select the "Start Update" button. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

Once the update has completed, select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
Under "Reports"
Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do Not run a scan just yet, we will run it in safe mode.
Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning as it may interfere with the scanning process:

Launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the icon... Read more

Ok, after I used the online scanner, it had 4 infected files come up, but the scanner couldn't cure the files, so now what? 3 of the files were Win32 Moisho or something and the other one was a Win32/Beovens!generic. Does anyone know how to get rid of these?

A:Can you see anything wrong with me HJT log?

nothing obvious except no antivirus or firewall which is a big risk

try the trial version of Kaspersky 6

select downloads in left column & then trials, select antivirus 6 & install it & run a full system scan and see what it finds

if you prefer a free antivirus then

one free one that many users of this forum use successfully is
AVG from http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/1/

or Avast from http://www.avast.com/eng/free_virus_protectio.html

I sent this on the 15th and I havent herd anything yet.

It said every thing I was doing was being read from another location and that I should down load their security thing to stop it. I think it was http://www.newgrounds.com
And something about Saturn of Stamford. This computer was used at a Saturn dealership up to a month ago. The Saturn store closed and I did get the computer from there.

Can you take a look at my ad-aware and HJT log and suggest anything, thank you.

All right; on the tools tab; Internet options, privacy, advanced. The “Prompt” was checked off on “Third-Party Cookies” I changed it to Block. I was getting a lot of prompts to allow cookies. I just assumed it was for the page I was on. The last one was from some site I never herd of before and I hit block.

ad-aware keeps getting 2 critical risks.

A:Something is Wrong with this.

hi, welcome to TSG.
your log is clean!

In adaware set it up this way and you won't get these results! cookies can be blocked or allowed if you want to!
Set adaware to do a full system scan and deselect, "search for neglible risk
entries". Click next to start the scan. Delete everything adaware finds.
* Go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under
"Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete
Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the "Delete Cookies" button to clear
the cookies.
To block cookies in IE.

Go to view/privacy report/highlight the offending cookie/click summary/
and choose never allow this site to use cookies/ click ok and exit! This
will block all tracking cookies from being set on your computer!
in internet explorer go to tools/internet options/click privacy and set it to meduim!
fix this one with hjakc this!

Why is my Local Disk (C already at full capacity of 16.0 GB? I've only had this computer for 5 months. I have many songs downloaded (about 3,000), but not much else. Even if I erase some of them it doesn't create more disk space. How can I make more disk space available, and what are the consequences if I don't create more space?

A:What Am I Doing Wrong?

What's the average file size of those 3000 songs? Multiply that by 5 mb (5,000,000) and you are pretty close to maxed out. You will need to delete a lot more than a few.

The consequences could be very serious; you will run out of "virtual memory" and windows will crash when you run programs requiring more memory than you have available in installed ram.

Hello, I have just purchased a computer with windows xp professional. DVD and separate CD-R CD-W drive. The problem is when I tried to play a DVD movie, it didn't work. What am I doing wrong? Is there something special I have to do before playing the DVD? I have read the help section from Microsoft, but it didn't help me. I opened the Media Player as instructed. Clicked on "Play" then on "DVD or CD audio", but the where is says " DVD drive (D) please insert a disk", its not active. Do I have to install something else before I can use the DVD drive? I have never had a DVD drive in my other computers and I don't understand how it works. I thought it was like any other DVD player, but I guess it isn't.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.

A:What am I doing wrong?

A DVD player usually comes with software to view dvd's. I use PowerDVD with xp home. Check through any disks you may have got with the computer and see if you got a cd with dvd software. If by chance you have PowerDVD there is an upgrase on their site that is need for xp.

Using XP Pro, Abit KG7 mboard, Athlon 1600
Currently have my CD-ROM on IDE 1
Adding a new 80GB disk as a slave to my current IBM 41GB via IDE 0

Heres what happened:

Set the jumper on the new hard drive to slave
Attached the Grey end of the ribbon cable to the new disk
Attached the power supply cable
Went into the BIOS and the Board detected the new disk no problem
Saved and booted as normal to the Users password screen
Then put in the password and the machine crashed
I then tried removing the new disk to boot from the original and it would not load after the Verifying DMA successful no matter what boot sequence I choose.
Already tried booting from the XP disk then Repair but it's reported 2 problems with the disk(the disk was fine before).
I've also tried Fail Safe and Optimal settings in the BIOS too.

Do I have any chance of a recovery ?
Or will I have to Format and how can I avoid mucking things up again once I've formatted ?

Any advice or information would be much appreciated

Gasha

Hello, I keep getting about 100 to 200 email messages a day for failed emails that I am not sending. I have scaned with norton, avg, symantic online, adaware and spybot s+d. I do not find any thing but the amount of failed email notices i get gets larger each day so i feel something is wrong and I just can not find it. most of the emails have 2 attachments in them a txt file and an audio file (the name are slightly differant o the files they have a number that changes "att00019.dat" and "attooo22.txt" the numbers change but file type is the same). both scan as clean. I have not opened either file to look. So what do you think????

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;

Okay, I had some experience removing spyware/trojans/adware and I've been working on this computer for a couple days. Spy Sweeper says that it's finding a vundo variant as well as some other trojans but adaware and trend say the computer is clean except for some cookies. Does anyone see anything wrong with this log? I've run SuperAntispyware, WinPatrol, Xoftspy, Spybot... the downloaded version of Trend that was on here isn't working for some reason. I think it's some new beta version but that's something I'll work on later. If anyone can point me in the right direction on how to finish up this computer I would appreciate it.

What is a good registry cleaner that is free?

Ok this is my first time trying this so please bare with me. I have tried just about all I know and even searched around for additional information. The first thing that happened was the computer kept getting pop ups like crazy and internet ran extremely slow. I checked processes and I saw a bunch of processes running called ndnet.exe. Also netmon and command.exe which could not be killed in regular mode so I booted in safe mode and deleted registry entries cmdservice which was found in HKLM\system\controlset002\services\ and HKLM\system\controlset001\services\. Checking the registry information for cmdservice I saw that there was a hidden folder that I still am unable to find within the c:\windows\system32\ folderwhich contains the executable file that was running. This sort of sped things up after deleting those registry entries it stopped the popups and so I ran spybotSD to see if anything came up I got coresys zedo and also found smitfraud-C.CoreSystems which spybot supposedly fixed. I rebooted and then ran spybot again a few hours later and again the same things were found. I also noticed that BHO's in Spybot showed awtqp.dll and awtqrst.dll running. So I ran hijackthis and well nothing shows up. Yet computer will still run slow at times and when I check task manager it would show 2 iexplorer.exe running in the background along with WLLoginproxy.exe when I kill the 2 iexplorer.exe processes the WLLoginproxy.exe would also disappear. I also noticed that when windows ... Read more

I have had DSL through AOL for a year and 1/2 now. For most of that time it worked splendidly-trouble free...but over the last few weeks something has changed and I haven't a clue what it could be or how to correct it.

Essentially, it is now really slow; Barely faster than a dial-up modem. I cannot see anything wrong with the connection. Several weeks ago, I noticed that streaming videos that had worked beautifully in the past, now appear pixelated, frequently stop or run as a series of still frames. Downloading new virus profiles, which used to take seconds, now takes 5-9 minutes. Video previews in quick time used to start in a few seconds, now take 10 minutes or so to start...the list goes on and on. It's all just very slow!
It didn;t use to be this way. After my suspicions were aroused I went to several of those sites that check your DSL speed. My connection consistently tests at 113-115 kbps downloads, I kept of copy of a similar test I ran months ago....and it clocked at 1159kbps.
Something is seriously wrong. This is not congestion-- there is no time of day that the situation changes.
What can I check? how can I fix this? I am using the same firewall I have always used; Windows built-in one.
Help!!

A:Help something wrong with DSL

Check to see if your filters are where they are supposed to be..although if you miss a filter, you would not be able to connect, but check anyways. It's also best to call aol's tech support since they may have server problems, and you may think it's on your side.

I recently had to reinstall Windows on my laptop and I'm having problems getting it to recognize my printer.

I have a wireless router, a print server attached to that, and then the printer is attached to the to the print server. My laptop recognizes the wireless router & the print server, but for some reason, it won't recognize the printer that is attached to it.

The driver is installed and it works fine if I plug the printer directly into the laptop with the USB chord.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Godspeed,
Ed
