Fraudulent charges

Q: Fraudulent charges

I recently had some fraudulant charges go through my paypal account, and am afraid I'm infected with something. I've also noticed my computer going significantly slower than usual since around the time I noticed the charges. After running DDS I was only given one DDS.txt file, and no attach.txt file. I did check the checkmark for attach before starting, and I ran the program multiple times to make sure.

Hello. A while back, my computer got infected with malware and one of the good people on this forum helped me out. I hope someone can help me out again. Recently, I experienced fraudulent charges on my credit cards, which made me wonder if my computer could be infected again. I've also been wondering if a potential infection on my boyfriend's computer could spread to my computer (and vice versa) since we're on the same network. We both run Windows 7.
I ran AVG on my computer, which detected Worm/Pakes (Google Drive folder). It got moved to the virus vault. I then followed the steps from last time, i.e. CCleaner, Malwarebytes, AdwCleaner, JRT and ESET online scanner (I forgot to save the logs). Still, I would like to make sure that my computer really is clean.
On my bf's computer, AVG detected Adware Generic, though I haven't checked more than that yet.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

After discovering some fraudulent charges on my credit card, I became suspicious that it might have been caused by malware. I still don't know if that was the case, but in any case, BleepingComputer came to the rescue (again) and helped me clean my computer.
My boyfriend and I are on the same network and I'm a bit worried that a potential infection on his computer could spread to mine and vice versa. AVG detected Adware Generic on his computer. While I have only basic tech skills (it seems like I never improve), he has zero interest in doing any kind of computer maintenance ("it should just work"), so I would love some help making sure that there is in fact no malware on his computer.
We both run Windows 7 and have AVG AntiVirus Free (I'd quite like to use another antivirus program instead; I just can't figure out which one).
Any help would be much appreciated

A:After fraudulent credit card charges: making sure bf's computer is malware-free

Use programs below to clean, remove adware and remove malware.
Use CCleaner to remove Temporary files, program caches, cookies, logs, etc. Use the Default settings. No need to use the
Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Pay close attention while installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars....especially Google.
After install, open CCleaner and run by clicking on the Run Cleaner button in the bottom right corner.
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here
Double-click mbam-setup-2.X.X.XXXX.exe to install the application (X's are the current version number).
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
Once MBAM opens, when it says Your databases are out of date, click the Fix Now button.
Click the Settings tab at the top, and then in the left column, select Detections and Protections, and if not already checked place a checkmark in the selection box for Scan for rootkits.
Click the Scan tab at the top of the program window, select Threat Scan and click the Scan Now button.
If you receive a message that updates are available, click the Update Now button (the update will be downloaded, installed, and the scan will start).
When MBAM is finished scanning it will display a screen that displays any malware that it has detected.
Click the Remove Selected button.
MBAM will now delete all of the files and registry keys and add them to the programs quarantine. When removing... Read more

Great laptop that Ive been using for 1.5 years. Recently I've noticed my battery is showing signs of an error other Dell users are reporting.
Laptop charges fine to 76% then it starts alternating from "plugged in, charging" to "plugged in, not charging". Charging after 76% becomes really slow.
What I've done so far:
1. Updated BIOS
2. Updated Dells Power Management tool
3. BIOS can detect the adapter (45W). Im using the adapter that came with the laptop
4. Battery settings in power management and BIOs are set to Standard
5. Completely drained the battery and tried doing a full charge
6. Uninstalled Microsoft ACPI compliant control in device manager then re-installed
Battery diagnostics show the battery is in EXCELLENT health.
Any ideas?

I have only had my new HP notepad a few weeks an already I have a annoying pop up which I don't know if it's a fraud or legitimate due to me installing new programs.

It apears after about a minute of starting up and can only be closed via the task

I have tried to locate it but have not really found my feet with windows 7.

Anybody got any ideas on how to remove this pop up or find out if it's fraud or not?

I have inclosed two images:

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You haven't said which programs you've installed so I'd err on the side of caution and run a full anti-virus scan.

Malwarebytes is highly recommended: Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer

Three weeks ago an "alert" gave me three choices - to continue, cancel or "x" out. I accidentally hit cancel and soon received a thank you for a subscription, which was false. Soon, in Firefox, tabs opened to other sites I'd never heard of. Then a screen comes up giving the same options and the only way out is through task manager.

I've been plagued with Trojans that are taken care of via AVG and Malawarebytes but would really like to get to the core of the web sites.

I'm running XP. Thanks for any help you can give.

Due to nine fraudulent digital certificates issued, MS has issued this fix available now for the following problem:

Microsoft today warned that Comodo has issued nine fraudulent digital certificates to a third party whose identity could not be sufficiently validated, a scenario that could allow attackers to spoof content, perform phishing attacks, or perform man-in-the-middle attacks against all Web surfers.

According to the Microsoft advisory, the fraudulent Web certificates affect the Microsoft Live service, Google’s mail system, Yahoo and Skype log-ins.

If you have your updater set to auto install, the fix should be applied. If not, the update is available at the following link for all supported versions of Windows to help address this issue.

Unfortunately the MD has expired. His sons are saying that no payments are due from their company & that these emails are fraudulent & not sent by their company.
We want to know in legal aspects,
a) if emails correspondence are considered legal?
b) if Company B says the emails are fraud, is it not that the onus to prove them fraud is on that company only?
c) Are there judgements given by any Honourable courts in similar cases & can you pls give the references?

I shall be highly grateful to you for your valuable guidance & prompt response.

Microsoft Security Advisory (2607712)
Fraudulent Digital Certificates Could Allow Spoofing

General Information

Executive Summary

Microsoft is aware of at least one fraudulent digital certificate issued by DigiNotar, a certification authority present in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities Store, on all supported releases of Microsoft Windows. Although this is not a vulnerability in a Microsoft product, Microsoft is taking action to protect customers.

Microsoft has been able to confirm that one digital certificate affects all subdomains of google.com and may be used to spoof content, perform phishing attacks, or perform man-in-the-middle attacks against all Web browser users including users of Internet Explorer. Microsoft is continuing to investigate how many more certificates have been fraudulently issued. As a precautionary measure, Microsoft has removed the DigiNotar root certificate from the Microsoft Certificate Trust List.

All supported editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2008 R2 use the Microsoft Certificate Trust List to validate the trust of a certification authority. Users of these operating systems will be presented with an invalid certificate error when they browse to a Web site or try to install programs signed by the DigiNotar root certificate. In those cases users should follow the instructions in the message. Microsoft will release a future update to address this issue for all supp... Read more

The full advisory can be found on the Web at: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/advisory/2524375.mspx.

Microsoft is aware of nine fraudulent digital certificates issued by Comodo, a certification authority present in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities Store on all supported versions of Microsoft Windows. Comodo advised Microsoft on March 16, 2011 that nine certificates had been signed on behalf of a third party without sufficiently validating its identity. These certificates may be used to spoof content, perform phishing attacks, or perform man-in-the-middle attacks against all Web browser users including users of Internet Explorer.

Certificates for the following Web properties are affected:

• login.live.com
• mail.google.com
• login.yahoo.com (3 certificates)
• login.skype.com
• addons.mozilla.org
• "Global Trustee"

Comodo has revoked these certificates, and they are listed in Comodo’s current Certificate Revocation List (CRL). In addition, browsers which have enabled the Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) will interactively validate these certificates and block them from being used.

An update is available for all supported versions of Windows to help address this issue. For more information about this update, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 2524375 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2524375).

About 1 year ago i bought UPS ( Discovery ), it has three outputs ( 220v - 3.6A ) and the input is 220-240v - 6A max.
Anyway, i have my PC, screen, router and surround system connected to it. AT first, when electricity goes down, the UPS used to give me around 5 mins of electricity which is more than enough to save work and turn off PC, but about 2 months ago it stopped charging for some reason, and now when electricity goes down, the UPS immediately shut down. I disconnected everything from it and let it charge for more than 48 hours but it didn't work.

What would be the problem ?

A:UPS no longer charges

We have about 100 or more APC's here 110v and the batteries normally sound an alarm when they go bad (anywhere from 1 to 2 Years). Our server batteries last considerably longer and of course are more expensive.
Does the Discovery have that ability?
battery replacements run from $30 to 70 depending on size.

My Dell XPS battery charges only to 99%. Technical support said this is a "normal" occurrence if you have "adaptive" charging on in the BIOS. They asked me to update the BIOS and then change it to "custom" charging. The battery now charges to 100%.
Is this normal behaviour or just a messy "fix"? I just want to confirm if this is a papered over fault, because I suspect that it is. Personally I am not too pleased with having to call Dell technical support on the day I opened my new laptop!

This started this morning... it was fine yesterday.  Basically the laptop only charges when off - based on the charge indicator near charging port. When i boot into windows charging stops and the laptop sleeps frequently as it thinks it is on battery.  If i plug the ac adapter in when the machine is on, the light on top cover blinks 2 times.  Currently at 74% so i don't think it has anything to do with the battery charging function that cycles the battery, but if it does, how do i use my machine and prevent it from sleeping without changing settings?

A:Thinkpad P50, only charges when off

It sounds like airplane power mode was enabled.  Did this behavior start happening after you turned on airplane wireless mode?  ThinkPad has a feature where turning on airplane wireless mode will automatically turn on airplane power mode.  And on the workstation-class systems like P50, airplane power mode has the effect of disabling the AC adapter because it cannot be restricted to less than ~45 watts like airplane power circuits require.
Anyway, try turning off airplane wireless mode (or toggle it).  If that doesn't work, open Lenovo Settings, go to the Power section, and manually disable airplane power mode there.  (I'm assuming you are on Win10.)

I bought a refurb T440S maybe 9 or 10 months ago from Newegg.  When I did, I took it out of town with me for work for a couple months (which burned through the majority of its short 3-month warranty period).  This issue started happening back then, but I didn't have the time to deal with it, so now that I'm well out of warranty with the vendor I purchased it from, I'm wondering if others have had the same issue (as it's gotten much worse recently). Basically after a month or two of flawless use, the laptop would stop detecting when I plugged the charger in.  When it did properly detect that I'd plugged the charger into the charge port, it charged both batteries just fine.  I thought it was maybe a physical/solder joint issue, as I could move/wiggle the charge plug to a point where it would just stay connected.  It was a nuisance, but it still eventually would charge, if I placed the charging plug in just the right spot; so I just dealt with the nuisance. Lately, the laptop doesn't want to detect the charge plug at all.  I dual-boot (linux/windows), and the charging issues are much more common when using linux, but the issue does still happen in both OS's.  Essentially, if and when I get the charger to work, I'll get the standard power LED blinking, telling me that it's charging....followed by any short amount of time, where it'll be back to trying to run on battery power, even though it's still plugged in. It's not the same pr... I have been running my laptop off the charger for a few months now (the laptop does hold some charge when running off the battery, but only 30 mins tops before the battery is empty - need a new one).

Today I turned the laptop on with the charger plugged in but the laptop wasn't charging and running off the battery. On the original charger, it neither charges (light comes on) when its off or on.

So I bought a new charger but again the laptop doesn't charge when on. When the laptops off with the new charger plugged in the port lights up (I'm assuming its charging) but when I turn the laptop on, the light goes off and the laptop runs off the battery.

Is this because the battery is knackered and needs a new one? Or could this be something else?

Thanks for any help.

A:Laptop charges when off but not when on

Yeah it sounds like you may need a new battery. My brother just had a similar problem with his laptop. It would not charge at all when on or off. They switched out the charger, that didn't work. Then they switched the connector that was in the laptop, that didn't work. Turns out it was the battery, doh!

Not sure which category this question should be in, but I've been installing my OS's for years. Someone at my former job had asked me to reinstall the OS on 2 machines one is her work PC and the other is her home PC. Both running XP Pro on Dell machines. I should've done my homework before so I knew what a reasonable price was. I already did the home PC yesterday. She asked me what I was charging and stupidly (since I didn't have any idea) said, "what do you think it's worth?". She said $60 and after about 30sec. of silence from me she followed with, "it's not like your digging ditches...". I was a bit offended by the comment - sounded like I would've made more if I just dug a hole in the ground. Granted, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to install an OS, it take some thought to install it correctly and then configure it to run smoothly and it takes a long time to install everything.

When I first booted up her PC (that she tried installing herself beforehand), there were actually 2 installations of Windows and one ended up on the D partition. Once you got into one that worked, all kinds of "missing...this and that .dll or something else message would be the first thing that appeared.
To top it off, she must've checked something incorrectly when she ordered her machine as she was running a RAID1 array. Something I don't think she would've wanted or needed.

Anyway, I wrote it off as a favor to a colleague for the time it took (9hour... Read more

A:Charges for OS installation?

This can only be answered very broadly. To install and configure an o/s usually takes around 2 hours (if all runs well) and I usually charge around AU$120.00 for this service. I went the route you did first time around and applied "mates rates" until I found that I, all of a sudden, acquired a lot of "mates"! Now I charge the same for everyone regardless of who they are - saves a lot of agro and the client knows what the bill will be. Don't fall for the "I can't afford it" line - if they really can't afford it then they don't get the job done. Most can (at my rates anyway) and will fork out the $$$$'s to get their machine back in running order.

In your case, if a client made comments like "it's not like your digging ditches..." then the price would rise by 50%! People don't take into account that whilst you are waiting for the software to install (and maybe having coffee while it does) it's YOUR time you're using up and, as such, should be billed to the client. The installer may well be doing the work but you MUST be there while it does.

I found that it was worth educating the clients that every time they called you out or came to you with a problem they would be charged for the time, at a minimum rate like AU$50.00, even if the "repair" is something as simple as the speakers plugged into the wrong jack and takes you 30 seconds to fix - you still had to (possibly) travel to the client and diagnose the problem. Hey everybody, I've been troubleshooting this Toshiba Satellite (A215-S7462) laptop last couple of days and I can't seem to solve the problem. I apologize if this question was already asked, but I couldn't find anything with my specific issue. My laptop occasionally charges while on, but for the most part will show X% available(plugged in,not charging). When I put the laptop to sleep however, it charges fully in about a hour and a half(I only know because the orange charge indicator turns blue when charged). I had a problem earlier in the year when the laptop didn't charge at all, to which acer diagnosed as a charger port issue. However, when the laptop was sent in, all they did was change the battery. I went to a local shop that tested out the original chargers voltage, and they gave me the new charger I'm using now.Is there anything I can do about this issue without a warranty?Fee lfree to ask me anything about either charger.

I used to be able to fully charge it, unplug it and work for 2 hours plus before having to recharge it. I would then plug it back in to top up the power. 3 months ago I noticed when I was doing this it was no longer topping up the power. In fact, the red light (which normally stays on when charging) would only flash once - and then go white and stay white; draining  the remaining power very quickly. I have tried other charges but to no avail. The laptop battery will charge when the laptop is off (lid closed) and in sleep mode. The battery port does feel a little loose but I don't think this is the problem as when I take the battery out and plug the main power in the laptop will power up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Clary

Hey there,My laptop only turns on if the battery is charged in another laptop then put into mine, then while turned on it will continue to charge the battery and work normally. But it will not turn on with just the charger plugged in OR with a flat battery, it will also not charge the battery if it is turned off.Worst of all if the laptop is turned off for more than 5 minutes then the battery instantly goes flat.So I again must charge it in a different laptop to be able to turn mine on.It's not the battery nor the charger as I have tried my friends of each which work perfectly fine in his laptop but I still have the same problems with them.Any ideas?

A:My aspire R3-471 rarely charges while it's on.

When I had that problem on R3-471, I looked for the little pinhole on the bottom. I carefully followed steps in link below (because I didn't know what else to try).   Anyway, it fixed it. http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/26240/~/how-to-reset-the-battery-on-your-ultrabook

Hi all, My laptop is new, i've had it for just about a month now. There's usually an orange charging light on the side of the laptop that illuminates when the charger is plugged in. However recently, whenever my laptop is on and i try to charge it, the orange light illuminates for a matter of seconds and comes up with the message "plugged in but not charging" and then the light just turns white and the laptop continually runs as if nothing is plugged in. However, when the laptop is turned off, the orange light will iluminate and will  charge to 100%. The charger is completely fine as it appears to charge the laptop when it is off. I have even purchased a new charger and that has made no difference. It appears as though it's some type of settings problem, but i have checked settings and nothing seems to be different. Any help would be appreciated, as i'd hate to have to keep switching of my laptop just so that it will charge.

I put this question in the Moto g3 ForumsMotog3 Forum "Hi, My Moto G3, this morning is not debugging, when I connected the usb cable to my pc the debug's logo appeared and disappeared immediatelly and the logo of charging not appeared, but it's charging. When I connect the phone to the wall's plug the icon of charge if appears. If I turn off the phone and connect for usb if charges. I tried disconnecting the debugger but the problem is the same."
