X1 Carbon 6th gen HDMI not working

Q: X1 Carbon 6th gen HDMI not working

Hi communityI just received my new X1 Carbon 6th gen laptop, and all drivers are fully up to date.My problem is that the HDMI port does not seem to work - I've tried connecting multiple external screens to the HDMI port, but nothing happens (no screen-flickering either, as I experience on other pc's when connecting a remote display). Any ideas? RegardsTommy

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

For the first couple weeks I was able to run 3x 1080p monitors just fine using two display ports and an hdmi port. This morning when I docked my computer I could only get two to work. I can disable one then enable another and get all three working but only in sets of two.  I tested two of my coworkers laptops on my dock and all three monitors work fine. Also when I boot all three work until the Windows splash screen then one goes dark.  If I try to enable the third one: It acts like it's connected but the display remains dark and I lose my mouse cursor. I can stll move the mouse and see the hover overs but the cursor is gone.  I'm thinking this is a windows driver/firmware issue. In device manager I see all three:   But can't seem to get all three to work at once.  I've tried reinstalling both the Thunderbolt drivers and the display drivers with no luck. Any ideas? I'd like to avoid completely reinstalling Windows as I know that'll probably be a suggestion.

Hello,  I have a brand new X1 Carbon laptop and I can't for the life of me get the HDMI to connect. Drivers have all been updated and Thunderbolt Controller 15D2 does show up in my list of devices (this was the fix from a previous forum post). My other laptops connect immediately through HDMI, yet this brand new machine is not recognized. What am I missing?

Please hope you can help! About a week ago the external monitor (connected through HDMI) stopped getting signal, when reinstalling the driver it started working again. Now it happened again, and I tried reinstalling again, but nothing. I have tried the cable/monitor and they work fine, its the computer/hdmi-port. I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem... The Intel Driver Update Utility doesn't help either, neither does Lenovo Solution Center. What to do, I'm desperate! Help is tremendously appreciated!! /Fredrik

I have a new Carbon X1 (5th Gen), fully patched Windows 10 64 bit, trying to connect to a 1080p HDMI projector. When I connect the HDMI cable to the port, the OS recognizes that there is a second screen, but I'm usually not able to get anything to appear on the projection screen--usually just "no signal" although once or twice I've had something from the laptop display externally (no apparent cause/reproducibility). I have a similarly configured Carbon X1 (3rd Gen) that works completely fine with the HDMI output, using the same HDMI cable, projector, resolution settings, etc. So that presumably would rule out any problem with the cable or projector system. Both the 5th Gen and 3rd Gen are configured to use the native 1080p resolution of the external display, but as noted the 5th Gen almost never works. I've also tried unplugging the USB-C and any other monitors from the 5th Gen to see if that makes a difference; also trying to different modes--second screen only, duplicate displays, extend displays--and none of these help either. Any suggestions for how to further troubleshoot or narrow down why the 5th Gen Carbon isn't able to get the signal through to the projector?

Hey all,I've tried pretty much everything I can think of to get my HDMI port working on my X1 Carbon 5th gen (20HR).1. Updated my video driver (currently running 24.20.100.6344 for Intel HD 620)2. Tried different cables3. Tried different monitors and TVs4. Power cycled (obviously)5. Set my display mode to all of the options from Windows + P. My laptop has not once detected that a second screen is attached. I'm considering reinstalling Windows at this point but not quite sure what that would do. My warranty just ran out 3 months ago so sadly I've go no support options from Lenovo it seems (not even speaking with tech support). Any ideas?

Hi  I recently purchased a X1 Carbon 6th. As someone wrote (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-6th-Gen-projector-mode-issue-with-H...), I am experiencing a problem with hdmi and projector mode. If I turn on the laptop and plug in the hdmi cable, then the external display works perfect (duplicate, extend, second screen only modes all work fine). But then if I change the projector mode to "PC screen only", I cannot switch back to the external display mode. The external projector/monitor says "no signals" and he laptop won't detect the external display even though the cable is still plugged in. Once I am in this situation, unplugging the hdmi cable and plugging it back in does not solve the problem. What solves the problem is (1) to unplug and plug back in the power cable. OR  (2) to go to device manger and clikc on scan for hardware changes.  OR (3) unplug, reboot the laptop and plug in the hdmi cable I checked all the drivers (including the drivers for the external monitor), BIOS version and hdmi cables themselves.  Any ideas/tips will be greatly appreciated!

Hi guys, Just received my new X1 Carbon 5th Gen, and tried playing a video over HDMI and it's cutting in and out repeatedly, every 20 seconds or so. Thin green lines flashed across the screen intermittently also. All cables are in solidly, playing straight from the SSD. Watched the screen of the laptop as it was playing, and it was only the TV display that was cutting out. Any ideas? A bit disappointed. Cheers

Dear all,I recently got a new carbon X1 2016 version and I would like to connect it to my display at work (samsung U24E590, 4K) and my TV at home (Panasonic, 4K). As especially my TV doesn't have a display port, I would like to connect over HDMI. In the manual, it says that HDMI connection allows resolutions up to 4096x2160px. However, when I connect my Samsung display, I get only options up to 1920x1080px in display settings (win 10, x64). I downloaded and installed the newest Intel HD Graphics 520 driver from the Lenovo support page. How is it possible to use full 4K resolution over HDMI connection? Anybody an idea? If possible without any expensive adapters etc. Many thanks for your help!

Hello everyone, I just received my new X1 Carbon 6th gen and I really like it a ton so far, but yesterday I was trying to use it for a presentation at work and have found some really inconsistant behavior with the hdmi port and projection mode. If I reboot the laptop and plug in the projector hdmi I can get screen duplication to work perfect. If the laptop goes to sleep or if I switch my mode to laptop only I can not get the hdmi port to work again until I reboot or strangely if I plug in (but not use) a hdmi dongle to one of the usb-c ports. I've checked and all my drivers and firmware are 100% updated. Any ideas or tips? Thanks!

Hello, I just bought an X1 Carbon Gen 4 and need to hook up 2 external monitors which have VGA, HDMI or DVI ports available. The idea is to have a 3 monitor setup (all three monitors with a resolution of 1920x1080) including the Built-in monitor and the 2 external ones. I have bought the OneLink+ adapter that has the RJ45 and VGA ports (4X90J31060) and am trying to set the whole rig up so that one monitor connects to the VGA port on the adapter and the other monitor is connected through the HDMI port on the laptop. The problem is that I can only seem to get 2 monitors going at a time, either Built-in & HDMI or Built-in & VGA. Before I go and buy more hardware (i.e. dock or MiniDP to HDMI/DVI adaptor), I was wondering if what I am attempting is even possible, and if it is, what I am doing wrong. Thanks to anyone who can answer.

The Thinkpad referenced above is equipped with a HDMI interface. During a test to directly connect a LCD projector or an external LCD display or a TV via an HDMI cable, I found that no picture appeared neither on the projected screen nor the display not the TV (the external screens stay black). Trying to connect via a ?Lenovo HDMI to VGA Monitor Adapter? and using a VGA cable resulted in the same (at least on the projector). What was done:On the X1, expand or change screens via Win+P  --> external projector, display or TV remain black (do not seem to receive a proper signal) while the X1 seems to recognize that an external display is connected (it correctly identifies the external screen in the screen settings). The X1 is on the latest patching level (according to Lenovo System Update), all drivers installed. Patching the latest Intel Graphics 5000 driver did not work (it says its a vendor specific driver).Even a dedicated installation of the external display driver on the X1 did not help or change anything.I also tried different HDMI cables, no change. I am lost of further ideas. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks,TonySt

Excuse my English please as it's my second language...I have a 1440p 144hz monitor, I can not choose 1440p as an display option when connecting X1 to it via HDMI, I can only get 1080p in windows settings. In Intel HD Graphics Control Panel however, I can set custom resolution up to 2560*1440 @30hz, anything higher than that won't work, it says "The custom resolution exceeds the maximum badwidth capacity".I couldn't find the specification of the HDMI port on X1 carbon, but some people in the community say it's HDMI1.4 and they can get [email protected]? Then it should be able to handle [email protected] right? Also my cable shouldn't be the problem, since my other laptop can output 1440p @60hz just fine. Is anyone having the same problem?

I used 2 HDMI cables and 2 TVs, still nothing. 3. you may think my laptop is faulty at this point but no, i booted into ubuntu and it worked fine without any issue, flawless audio playback without a hitch. FAQ:Q: is it just the audio or the video is not working too.A: Just the audio, video is fine. Q: Is your tv being detected by the device manger.A: yes, but as a generic monitor, the tvs name dosent show up.Q: Have you tried turning it off and on again.A: Yes, several times Q: Have you reinstalled windows recently?A: Yes, i reinstalled about 2 weeks ago, before that it worked fine (although it has been a year since i used audio over HDMI)

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Have you made sure your graphics card driver is up to date?

Have you tried starting your PC up in safe mode and seeing if the problem still persists?

Please ensure you have done both of these and then post back; it would also be helpful if we knew your system specifications which you can fill in under 'User CP'.

Also does the task bar appear on the primary monitor or secondary monitor?

I have started having an issue over the past week (config/drivers/etc not changed in months) where sound will randomly not be output by HDMI.

System config/specs...
Win7 SP1 all patches, nearly a stock install... only running WMC and XBMC.
Only 3rd part stuff installed are SpeedFan an ATI drivers. (problem occurs if Speedfan is running, or not)
system runs 16 hrs per day, auto shutdown at night.
Dell Optiplex, 6GB RAM + Core2Duo E7400, SSD - no swap file
HDMI is the default, and only sound device enabled (disabled all others in OS)

History... was working perfectly for over 2 years. One Win7 rebuild in that time. Updated video card once and drivers occasionally.
Symptom...
Approx half the time when I start up WMC or XBMC sound output via HDMI does not work. The other half of the time it works fine.
-- to get it working I can open Sound CPL and run "test". Sound will play through HDMI and all is fine usually the rest of the day, but sometimes it has the problem again if I don't use the system for several hours.
-- it never faults (stops working) while in use... only on initial XBMC or WMC startup... again system is always running hours before I start the apps.

Any ideas?

A:HDMI Sound randomly not working - test in settings gets it working?

This sounds like a problem with the video driver pack (also includes hdmi audio driver)
I would completely remove what you have now then download and reinstall the latest fresh again.
It could just be a glitch in the matrix so to speak.

Hi all,
Hours I've tried to get this to work. I'm trying to do this for my dad.......he has a Dell Inspiron laptop Window 7 and a Samsung LED TV. I'm on port HDMI2 on the TV from the PC.
I have tried everything but it says "source is not connected..." I tested the cable with the blue ray player and it works fine. I called Dell (still under warranty) an they were useless.I've checked the settings on the PC and I have it set to "extended" so I can see the monitor on both....no luck.
Anyone have any suggestions? Is it a setting on the TV that I am missing?
Thanks in advance,
Ilene

A:HDMI to HDMI PC to TV not working

I would set the monitors to duplicate each other until getting a picture. That is slightly less complicated than extended.

What resolution(s) are supported by the TV? At least once when trying to use a TV with a PC I had to set the resolution on the PC to one the TV supported before it would begin working.

I bought this X1 Carbon 6th gen a couple weeks ago, I never used the USB ports.Today I found the USB port on the right side is totally not responding. I have tried USB stick, my phones, none of those gave any feedback when plugged in. The left USB is working perfectly. I suspected it was the driver, but after uninstalled and installed, no luck. I even installed Ubuntu, same results. So it is not the driver. I also tried the emergency reset button. I used Lenovo Vantage to test hardware, no errors found. Any advice/suggestions? What else can I try? Thanks!

A:X1 Carbon 5th gen Touchpad not working

I have the same problem. This is also effecting the gen4 . With the latest "n1cgr16w.exe". First, it takes a long time to switch between tabs in "Synaptics Control Panel", Ok", "Cancel" is taking forever to close the dialogbox. Also no checkbox can be selected in "Scroll" tab. This latest driver literally does not work. It CANNOT even provide the simplest functionality. Need to rollback the changes asap.  Thanks

Hello. So we have started to buy the x1 carbons and have run into an interesting issue.  What seems to be going on is that after we join the laptops to our domain and our login script runs the webcam microphone does not work anymore. I have called into tech support and talked with 4 techs in different depts with no real answers.  Now here is the very odd part about this that we can not wrap our heads around yet and i am looking for some advice.  1. All Dell laptops do not have this issue within the company for either windows 7 or windows 10.2.the microphone works just fine until the laptop is on the domain and the login scrips are ran. 3. login script disabled apps and the Microsoft store only. 4. have uninstalled and reinstalled the audio drivers and still the same.  The microphone does not show up with a conflict or being disabled in control panel. 5. On Thinkpad T480s  that is set up the same way and on the domain the mic works. So that has us believe it is something to do with how the x1 are set up but again tech support has no idea.6. Also tried to plug in an external mic and getting the same thing it dose not see the mic.7. When trying to run the windows speech after putting the x1 on the domain a pop up shows up stating that there is not a micosoft on the laptop.   a lot of this is tipping me toward it maybe being that the Microsoft store being d...
