For Lord Bob - installing Oracle 10G ODBC driver on windows 7 x 64

Q: For Lord Bob - installing Oracle 10G ODBC driver on windows 7 x 64

Good afternoon Lord Bob,

I have installed the Oracle 10 g drivers, but MS access 2007 x86 can't seem to see the ODBC driver. I tried to set up manually, but got a non administrator Fail answer. I am an administrator.

so what am I missing? I can see and connect using the SysWOW64 odbc driver, but the application can't,

Preferred Solution: For Lord Bob - installing Oracle 10G ODBC driver on windows 7 x 64

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Not sure why you asked me this, and I have little experience with Access and Oracle software.

Have you checked the Access and Orcacle FAQs and forums for this problem?

When I search for Oracle ODBC drivers, I can only find drivers for Windows 7. I have seen installation instructions for installing Oracle 11g on Windows 10 (the actual database software) but I can't find anything on installing Oracle 11g ODBC drivers (32 or 64bit) for either Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. I've also looked on Oracles "Instant Client downloads for Microsoft Windows (x64)", but only can seem to find ODBC drivers that work with Windows 7. What's taking so long? This would seems to be a rather highly requested driver.

We recently switched from Oracle 8 databases to Oracle 11g. I have an existing Access 2002 database with a report that runs off a schema in the Oracle database.

I created a new ODBC entry to link the tables in Access to the new Oracle DB, however I am getting an OBDC failure error when I try to link them in the link table manager.

Is there anything I need to do, download new drivers for example, to get the report to properly link to the tables?

Hi all,
I have a strange problem that occur on lots of our machine,
We deploy a fresh Windows 7 32Bit OS from SCCM.
I created a script that adds a "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle" DSN on all of our workstation (part of the task sequence).
I tested the script and its work great, but...
Some users have problem that the DSN is not showing on the "ODBC Data Source Administrator"

Now, when I try to manually add the DSN, the moment I select "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle" i get the following error -

I'm googling the web for few days now and cant find a solution...
Please help...

Correct, I based my opinion on the error about the components apparently missing. Here is a Knowledge base article about troubleshooting this very issue:
How To Troubleshoot an ASP-to-Oracle Connectivity Problem
There is a similar thread on the Oracle forums which contains some solutions you can attempt to fix your problem:

Hi All,

Hope you guys are doing well.
I got a problem when I install my application on Windows 7 and later version.
See the description :
I am using some third party ODBC driver. By using SQLDriversW( ) API I am trying to read the properties.
Here i am using FileUsage
param to do some action. In older version of windows (XP/Server 2003) my application works. Looks like in older version, the SQL API doens't contain FileUsage
value in its payload. That is why my code always picks default value.
Whereas in later wondows(Win7 and Win10) it contains the value in output payload.
I am suspection that SQLDriversW( )
API doesn't return FileUsage string in older version. As per my investigation I am suspecting it is due to the upgrade of MDAC 2.8 to WDAC XX version.
Please help me to solve this problem.

Hi guys,

My girlfiends computer has continous problems (its a HP) and her brother just bought this game "Lord of the rings, Battle Middle Earth 2" and it wont even install on the machine.
Ive formatted this pc a few weeks ago and it still has the same problems?? Most of the time to do with the cd drive its really wierd!

Anyway the problem im having with this game is, you intsert the disc, auto run runs, enter serial number and all the rest, then when the install indicator goes to 1% it fails to copy one of the readme.txt support files from the cd. It gives u the option to retry, or cancel. Cancel, will cancel it all together, retry does nothing except bring up teh box again.
So, I tried exploring the cd and dragging it onto the desktop or something and it wont even do that!

The HP computer is 3ghz, 1gb ram, win xp, plenty of room on hdd. Thanx for any help in advance guys.

A:Lord Of The Rings wont copy the first file when installing!

I think you may want to check the game box and see if it's the DVD version... and if it is, then that's the problem if your girlfriend's machine has only a CD-ROM player...

Just a thought I know that the first one came out on DVD-ROM format as well as CD-ROM format.

Any help please?
Oh and Ive tried deleting the file it's been trying to transfer but to no avail since I cannot erase files that are on a dvd.

Oh and I just tried installng it on my friend's laptop, it worked it seems as if this problem is only occuring with my laptop.

I have a new computer at work. Our IT people have promised to support Vista 64 starting this year, so I bit.

When I go to the ODBC administrator, there is nothing in the list of drivers that allows me to set up excel, access, or oracle files as data sources. Those drivers were always there in XP, even in my XP x64 installation. I'm seeing a lot of angry chatter about this problem on various forum websites, but I'm not seeing any solutions for getting those drivers in place.

Has anyone here seen that problem and fixed it? How?

32 Bit ODBC Drivers in Vista 64

This post isn't really PostgreSQL specific. It also happens with MySQL and Ingres (and any other 32 bit driver).

I am running Vista 64 on one of my machines. I installed Postgres 8.3 and the ODBC drivers. When I tried to setup an ODBC connection, the windows ODBC administrator program ODBCAD32.exe did not list Postgres. I noticed that it also did not list MySQL or Ingres even though I knew I had installed drivers for those databases also.

After a bit of research, I tracked down the issue. My ODBC drivers did in fact install. Microsoft, in all their wisdom, has 2 versions of odbcad32. A 32 bit and a 64 bit. They are both named odbcad32.exe.

It gets better. They put the 32 bit odbcad32.exe in the syswow64 directory. They put the 64 bit odbcad32.exe in the system32 directory. 32 bit apps will pick up the 32 bit registry setting and 64 bit will pick up the 64 bit registry setting. system32 comes before syswow64 in the system path so the 64bit software runs before the 32 bit software.

So, when I manually ran odbcad32.exe in the syswow64 directory, I was able to configure my connections and everything worked hunky dory. I know have a shortcut to syswow64\odbcad32.exe on my desktop for working with 32 bit databases.

I wonder how stable the system would be if syswow64 was in the path before system32? I don't plan to find out.

Hi there

I just don't understand Ms -- on the one hand they've really improved the start screen's usability (new W8 build - X-64 build 9369 - I've posted a thread on this too in the Forum) but on the other hand they screw something up royally such as the new File explorer.

It's is an ABOMINATION to use with a mouse -- you'd be FOREVER scrolling / clicking. (Fortunately the Old file explorer aka windows explorer still exists).

Here's a screenshot of the new file explorer -- for a DESKTOP this must be the biggest piece of JUNK I've ever seen --and I've seen a lot of it.

Note also if your screen resolution is too low it won't even open -- example shown when I run it in a window in a VM -- on full screen it will work 2nd screen shot. However each blue box when you click on it opens again separately in a NEW full screen Window -- This is almost the Ultimate Horror of Horrors on a desktop.

For Touch on a tablet or smartphone -- possibly -- but a desktop with a MOUSE --forget it.

For a desktop the old method with an expanding TREE structure is fine. How for example does Ms expect you to Cut and Paste between different drives easily with this POS. You either need to be able to see the classic windows explorer tree structure or at least be able to see what's on the SOURCE and TARGET drives TOGETHER to move / copy stuff properly.

When I go to certain secure websites I get an error which reads.. "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error "80040e57"[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL server] String or binary data would be truncated. /Includ/utils.asp. line 902"

A:ODBC SQL Driver Error 80040e57

It's an error in the data you're trying to insert, not your code (since it's a SQL server error). Odds are that one of the fields you're trying to insert is too long for its matching database column's size (for example, sending a 35-character value to a database column that will only accept 25 characters).

Your options are: 1) increase the size of the column that's giving you trouble, or 2) somehow shorten the data to fit in the column.

HI! I have been trying to install a product called Thumbsplus which was giving me a ODBC Driver Manager Error - Database source name not found and no default driver specified error.

After trying a fews things I starting looking at the ODBC Data Source Manager in windows 8 and noticed that I could not access the System DNS tab. ( I would get a warning " you are logged on with a non-administrator privileges. ) even thought the account Is an administrator account. So I logged off and entered in as administrator and still the same message.

Something is wrong and I suspect it has little to do with the thumbsplus program as I should be able to enter into the system dns tab without receiving this error message.

Can someone plz shed some light on this issue?

PS: If I say OK after the dialog message the manager with open up and allow me to click the add button but since I dont know how to add the apropriate info there I did not go further, hence to say the error message probably did cause thumbsplus to not install correctly.
Here is a video of what happens http://www.webcandesign.com/bugs/odbc.mp4

A:ODBC Driver Manager Error - Database source name not found

The "non administrator" message you are getting is very annoying but it will still let you add a system DSN. It is a known issue but nothing something you should be worried about in this instance.

That being said, I just installed the application in question and was able to without issue. It also didn't create it's own DSN. During my installation I selected the first option for the database creation "Shared database but separate settings"
This creates a Microsoft access Jet database in "C:\ProgramData\ThumbsPlus" folder.

Not sure if this matters, but do you have MS Office installed?

I have Win7 and Office 2010 both 64 bit. I also have a 32 bit application running where I need a 32 bit *.accdb
(MS Access) ODBC driver. Using the 64-bit version of the Odbcad32.exe is returning “The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and Application”. So I need a
32 bit ODBC *.accdb driver for my application.
My problem:
When I open c:\windows\SysWOW64\odbcsys32.exe and try to ADD a new dsn there is only a *.mdb driver available for MS Access. Does anyone know how to
add a 32 bit MS Access *.accdb driver to c:\windows\SysWOW64\odbcsys32.exe? Maybe I missed something obvious but this is giving me headache after browsing through the Internet for a solution.

A:32 bit ODBC driver for MS Access 2010 (*.accdb) is missing in Win7 64bit

Carl, I just figured out a solution... If you are running a 64-bit Computer and Running Access 2010, you will first need to download the AccessDatabaseEngine.exe from Microsoft.

After the download finishes, and installs, You will need to create an ODBC connection. Instead of creating an ODBC connection through your Administrative Tools, Data Sources (ODBC) interface, you will need to run the 64-bit instance of Data Sources (ODBC).
To do this, you will need to click your "Windows" + "R" buttons on the keyboard, and then paste "c:\windows\sysWOW64\odbcad32.exe" -- without quotes into the dialog. Then create the connection to the database as you would on a 32 bit machine.
I had the same issues with the *.accdb not showing up in my 64 bit ODBC connections. It then showed up after performing the above steps.
Hope this Helps,
Alex Mahrou

So ive been going crazy over this issue (working on it for about 10 hours now) but I managed to finally get malwarebytes to load and run without it getting shut down by police pro. I removed the infections but I wanted to double check because I don't think this was the only spyware that was on this computer. Im sure there are because I cannot change the my desktop wallpaper under the display properties, it shows all the different options, but it will not let me select any of them. Also the web tab that usually is found in this area is now gone.

FYI it was a nightmare because police pro would shut down any .exe or task manager but I got it to finally run. It was terrible because it prevented my computer from running in safe mode, so I ran the recovery console and chose the repair windows options. I had to reinstall sp3 for windows but before I did this while under sp2, I ran malwarebytes and police pro did not shut it down. Im upgraded to sp3 again, but I think that other spyware still exists.

Thanks in advance for all the help!!

I am trying to creat a ODBC Data Source for my Access Database, so that I can see it in Open Office. I can't find the ODBC icon under the Control Panel however. Does anyone know where I can find it? I'm running Windows XP Professional SP2.

Found it. Sorry about the post.

I have created a ODBC connection between MS Acceess 2003 and Excel 2003 in Windows 7 32bit enviroment . The Macro ( code ) is as follows :
ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add(Connection:=Array(Array( _
"ODBC;DSN=MS Access Database;DBQ=D:\Acces7dat\STOCKS.mdb;DefaultDir=D:\Acces7dat;DriverId=25;FIL=MS Access;MaxBufferSize=2048;PageTim" _
), Array("eout=5;")), Destination:=Range("A1")) ... etc , transferring data from MS Access file stocks.mdb to an Excel spreadsheet for proccessing etc . All this works fine for the last three years until I have installed Windows 7 64 bit . Googling the problem found that I have to run the Windows/SysWOW64/obdcad32.exe file . Doing this appears the ODBC Data Source Admiinstrator with the tabs :
User DSN , System DSN , File DSN , Drivers , Tracing , Connection Pooling and About , and I can't configure all this in order to create a ODBC connection . First , is this the correct way to solve the problem and second how to setup the ODBC Data Source Admiinstrator under all these tabs ? Any help ? thanks in advance.
PS : I have reinstall Ms office 2003 in order to add missing items etc but no luck .

A:how to establish a ODBC connection in Windows 7 64 bit ?

the problem was solved by ODBC Data Source Admiinstrator , pressing the button " Add " and afterwards writing " MS Access 2003 " just right the DSN ( = Data Source Name ) label and OK , no matter should understand all of this .

thanks anyway

Hello and thank you for reading my post.

My software creates MySQL ODBC System DSNs...
... except it doesn't work with Windows 7.
It used to work with the previous Windows OSes including XP, Vista.
I've been struggling the whole day trying to find a solution.

*** I believe UAC (User Account Control) has something to do with this.
But I can't disable it as my customers have it usually enabled.
How can my application be allowed to create MySQL ODBC System DSNs and as a "normal" user?

*** The MySQL ODBC connector I have installed is:
and I have installed it logged as "Administrator".
(I also installed my application logged as "Administrator").

*** The MySQL server is on localhost for now... (that is to say on the same host as the application).

*** I've already updated the "Target" in the "Shortcut" tab in "Data Sources (ODBC) Properties" to "%windir%\syswow64\odbcad32.exe"
so that the "Drivers" tab is properly populated, including "MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver".

*** Logged as "Administrator" (which shouldn't be of course: this account is disabled by default, I enabled it for testing reasons), MySQL ODBC DSNs are created but they are empty:
- only the "Data Source Name" field is not;
- the "TCP/IP Server", "User", "Password" and "Database" fields are empty.

*** In my application it results in th... Read more

A:Windows 7 - MySQL ODBC System DSN creation

Most likely yes, UAC is the cause of the problem. Changing system DSNs naturally requires administrator privileges and therefore CANNOT be done by normal users, UAC or not (UAC makes this worse by converting admins to normal users under the covers). But it's the normal, expected behavior, as regular applications aren't supposed to messing with global DSNs, and only elevated ones are allowed. Respecting that is the whole point of the admin/regular user distinction. You app seems to be abusing its administrative rights on pre-UAC systems.

First, as a side note, I think using DSNs is a bad programming practice, as it ties the database access to something not entirely manageable by the app itself. I would store the server/database/user/password somewhere else, where you know, and build a connection string from it at runtime and use that to connect, therefore forgetting the problems of DSNs. Such refactoring may be easy or complicated, depending how is the program made, but in the long run I think it's the best solution.

If you want to continue use DSNs, then at some point you must elevate the app to allow such change. I guess that the DSN is changed from a configuration screen somewhere where the user chooses the database, then the whole program simply uses that.
The idea is to create a second executable program and manifest it as "require administrator" and make that program make the changes, after UAC prompt. The main one can call that second passing the data t... Read more

So I'm attempting to help someone fix their laptop. When he has his path as the following, one program he uses works, and the other does not:

If he swaps the first two entries, like so:

Then the program that did not work before works, the program that did work before, works no longer. To clarify, they begin asking for the paths to their databases.

I know that this is because the PATH uses the first folder it finds with an identically named file. What I don't know is how I can either A.) Circumvent that behavior or B.) Reconfigure one of these programs to go directly to the folder in question instead of referring to the PATH variables to locate it's resources. He's running Windows 7 enterprise x64.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Hello, I was a USRobotics Network Card model 7900A and I am trying to install the card onto the computer but it says it is not for the OS. It worked fine in Vista is there anything I can do to make it work?

A:Installing Driver on Windows 7

it seems the people who made this card have not yet made drivers for windows 7 as shown here http://www.usr.com/support/s-windows.asp what you may want to do is run it as administrator if that dose not work set it to run as vista not just normal install

if them 2 options do not work you can only save that page and keep looking back or email them asking when they will make drivers for your card to work with windows 7

Hi ,

I am Leena. This is my very first email to you. I had been ordered to learn oracle\sql by my company for better prospects. Now, I had no knowledge about the program and bought Oracle 8i dvd. However, while installing it, I faced problem of jrew.exe not working. I searched more on the net and read that oracle 8i is not compatible with Windows 7 Home Basic operating system directly. I also read that it can be instead installed on Windows XP. Now my question is, can there be any indirect way to install 8i on Windows 7. And if there is no other way, I mean really no way, then how can I install Oracle 11gR2 from net coz I have already wasted my money by buying a wrong dvd?
