Monitor power saving mode

Q: Monitor power saving mode

I currently run Win7 Home Premium with a XFX HD4870 GPU. After adding a new hard drive to my system & re organized some power connections to increase airflow around my tower ive had a problem with my monitor sticking in power saving mode when i first boot up my system.
The monitor is a LG FLATRON W2243S. When i first turn on my system & monitor for the day, the monitor stops on power saving mode until my win7 desktop has fully loaded, but when i restart my system it activates from the off quick enough to show my GPU post screen before my board Post screen.

I swapped my monitor with the wifes & she plugged mine in hers & booted up this morning for the first time & both activated instantly to show the GPU post screens before anything else loads. But when i connected back my monitor after shutting down the system, i get the same power saving mode hang.

I know the monitor is not faulty or my GPU as it would of shown when i swapped monitors over to do the test. The only other possibility is my GPU at first boot isnt getting enough power to activate my Monitor strait away but im told thats not a likely cause being lack of power provided to the GPU, as i have 2 drives sharing the same lead that powers the GPU & i thought its struggling a little.

This is causing me problems mainly when i boot from a cd to perform boot time scans or other tools & my duel boot system i can use as i cant switch between whatever windows i want as it dosnt activate until windows loads up.

I really hope someone can provide some tips on possible causes as im all out of options.

thanks

Preferred Solution: Monitor power saving mode

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a cyberpower pc with win 7 that i got a few months ago. It has been running perfectly until today. I was playing world of warcraft and all of the sudden everything froze and there was a sound like the audio got stuck like eeeeeeeeeeeeee. Since everything was frozen I tried to alt=f4 to get to desktop, wouldn't work. I hit the reset button and that didn't do anything. So I shut the power off, turned it back on, all the computer lights and fans came on but the monitor stays black and a box pops up saying power saving mode. There are also no lights on my keyboard. I tried unplugging the monitor and plugging back in, it stays the same. I tried a different keyboard and no lights come on it either. I have no idea what could have gone wrong with this, I play WoW nearly every day and have never had a problem. Hopefully someone can help. Since I cannot get into the BIOS or even to the desktop I can't give you any system specs. Hopefully I can look up any info you need. I am on another computer in my house so I will check back to see if anyone can start helping me. Thanks!

I turn the monitor and computer on. The flat panel monitor screen is black. I check the keyboard and mouse and both are working, Cap key works, Number lock works and the mouse laser is on. But the screen is still black. I press a key and the montior tell me to that the monitor is power saving mode then press any key or move the mouse. Nothing works. I have now plug the monitor into another computer and it works. Can anyone help?
Thanks

A:monitor is power saving mode

If you have a second monitor you should plug that in to the Dell that you mentioned. If it does not work you have a bad video card (or some part in the motherboard).

Is the Dell still under warranty? If so it would be good to call them and start getting a replacement set up.

I have seen many threads with different sleep/ power saving issues but can't find the right one for me so here it goes: the monitor seems to go into power saving mode when entering/exiting a game such as a game in steam. (but it doesn't happen every time) the only way to get it out is hard restart. Yes I've tried other monitors, as well as display drivers, and there also seems to be nothing wrong in the Bios. Thanks for any help!

Within the week, my monitor has started going into the power saving mode shutting down Windows so I cannot access Windows XP. When this happens, I get a message saying "Power savings enabled. The monitor will shut down in a few seconds." The problem has now worsen in that all I can access is the (F1) set up screen. When I was in set up, I also disabled the power management mode. I'm pretty sure it's not a monitor problem because I hooked another good monitor and my computer does the same thing. Then I thought it might be VGA card problem, so I purchased a new, compatible VGA card, installed it, and still the same problem. So I believe I have eliminated the monitor and the VGA card as problems. In set up, I can view the choices for "safe mode" and "normal," but when I try to go to either, I get the "Power savings enabled" message on the monitor screen, and I cannot open up in "safe mode" and "normal" mode. Any suggestions or help? Thanks!

Hello,
My monitor randomly goes into power saving mode and doesn't snap out of it unless I turn off my PSU and restart the computer. It's very frustrating, especially since I just built my PC, and don't want any components to be damaged.
This is the monitor I have:
E2414H (digital-DVI)
gpu : gtx 970

The drivers to my gpu and monitor are up to date. I have went through all of the windows power settings to "never sleep" and never turn off my monitor. The problem only primarily when I'm in a game, but has occasionally occurred when I'm on the desktop. I honestly think it's a problem with my monitor because my computer used to not do this, but I'm open to any ideas, and help with troubleshooting.

Is there a way to completely turn off power saving mode? I've read similar posts after Google searching and this seems to be a consistent problem with dell monitors.

Does the monitor work with different computer?

Try this.
Turnoff and unplug the monitor from the power supply and disconnect the cable to the computer.
Wait about 2 minutes, plug the electrical supply back in, turn the monitor back on and let it run its selftest.
Hopefully this will reset the monitor and you will get the no signal notification.
Connect back to the computer.

Once every couple of days when my monitor goes into power-saving mode, it will not wake up, no matter what keys I type, or how many mouse clicks I do. My power-saving settings within Windows 8.1 is set to No hibernation or sleep, so the PC is running while my monitor is in power-saving mode. I need to do a manual restart on my tower in order to re-start Windows. I suspect the OS may have something to do with it.

There are no BSOD errors that I see.

My hardware is as follow:
AMD X4 630 (OC)
12GB DDR3 RAM
256GB Crucial MX100 SSD
ATI RADEON 7790 1GB

I have a Dell XPS 8300 that randomly goes into power saving mode. It could be anywhere between 1 to 5 minutes before it does this. I know the monitor is working as well as the cable, so neither of those are the problem. I actually already paid Dell to fix the issue, which they did, but now it's back to the same problem I was having before, and they want me to pay again.  I am wondering if I need a new graphics card. If anyone could help me with suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

A:Monitor randomly goes into power saving mode

A quick test of the added discrete video card would be to power the XPS 8300 off. Disconnect the power cable from the XPS 8300. Lay it down and open the cover. Disconnect the monitor from the video card. Remove the video card. Connect the monitor to the onboard video HDMI out port or the onboard video VGA out port. Turn the monitor on, then the XPS 8300. If it stays on using the onboard Intel video, then the video card may be faulty.

Hello! A week ago the problems with my monitor started. It suddenly went in power saving mode and I couldn't do anything. I rebooted my computer and my screen was really creepy, like the one the TV has when it's no signal. I then rebooted in safe mode with networking. I uninstalled my graphics driver and installed again. I then did that again and installed another one, the one I have now. For a day everything worked fine and I thought my problem was gone, but it happned again and now it happens more often. At first I would see "ANALOG OUT OF RANGE 28.0 kHz / 53 Hz" sign when the monitor shut down, but now that doesn't happen anymore.

I have an LG Flatron L1960TQ monitor. I tried to change the screen resolution as I thought it might be a problem, and it seems as if when it's only 800 x 600 it works more than usually, but the problem still occurs. Another thing that happens when I reboot the computer after the monitor shuts down is that sometimes some lines appear on the whole screen. They appear from the start, when the BIOS message appears and don't dissappear until I reboot again (sometimes not even then). If I take a print screen they don't appear. When that happens most of the time the graphics are very low quality too, lower than they should be.

At the moment I am in safe mode as I can't turn it on normally. The monitor whether shuts down when the welcome screen should appear or when the Windows loads it freezes and nothing... Read more

My computer has been working fine ever since i newly bought it at least a year ago. I had a little accident the other day where water came in contact with my LG monitor and my wireless laser mouse. After letting them dry out for a few hours and reconnecting everything I tried to power up the computer like usual, to no avail. The tower powers on and boots up like normal but it seems as if there is no signal from the monitor. I can hit the power button on the monitor but when i do It says 'DSUB Power Saving Mode' then immediately goes blank again. I can't boot in BIOS either and I try to shake the mouse as to get out of power saving mode but that does nothing. This is my family's computer and I'm having no luck.. im pretty helpless at this point. The water damage was minimal.. if the monitor is able to display and power on then it should be fine right? One other thing i noticed is the mouse laser is gone. I swapped out the mouse and that did nothing. I'm not sure what's wrong here. Is it my monitor?

Hey there,

Have you got a ps/2 keyboard and mouse that you could use?

If so, when the monitor goes to sleep, you should be able to wake it with these two connections because you don't need to install ps/2 connections. it automatically detects them on start up.

If not, I know this sounds simple, but try and just keep clicking and typing on your keyboard and mouse so that your monitor should not have time to go into sleep?

Try these and please tell me the results so I can try and help you further.

Hello, my problem happens only when I am gaming. Basically when I am playing a game such as the warhammer beta, I will go for hours and things will be fine. However, when there is a lot of movement on the screen, my computer stutters and my monitor turns all black then enters power saving mode. However, I can still hear the in-game sounds and my tower is still running. Turning my computer monitor on and off does not fix the problem. I have to manually restart my computer. I am pretty positive it is not a monitor issue. I believe the issue is either a faulty motherboard or perhaps a faulty video card.

My computer is mainly a 2000 dell with a replaced video card, motherboard, ram, cpu, and powersupply. When putting the motherboard in place (which is an Abit VT7) my brother forgot to put the copper bearings in the tower and just screwed in the motherboard. Flipping the switch on would produce nothing. Finally I discovered what he was doing wrong and placed the bearings inside. For years, nothing seemed to be wrong with my computer. Then, while playing counter-strike source and world of warcraft, I started getting horrible framerate and then the monitor would turn off like it does now, even though the rest of my computer is running fine.

I think that when my brother did not put in the copper bearings, he may have partially damaged my mobo and only now the problems of that initial damage are making themselves visible.

However, I read on another forum that the ... Read more

I recently bought a Dell XPS 8900 desktop and Dell U2414H monitor. After hooking the two together with a Displayport to Displayport mini, everything seemed to be fine. There was a signal and the display was on. I turned off the monitor and put the computer in sleep mode for a little while. When I returned and turned both systems on, there was no picture. Just a statement saying the monitor was going into power saving mode. I tried unplugging and replugging the monitor back in and that didn't work. I got the same problem after connecting the computer to a different monitor so I suspect it's the desktop. I also get the same problem using the HDMI port instead. The only thing that seems to fix this is by doing a cold shut down and restart of the desktop. Can anyone tell me what the problem is under these circumstances?

Hi All Recently our company purchase a bulk of x1-carbon and P27h-10 monitors. However we are expericing issues when we try to connect the laptop back to the monitor after some time. It does not wake up from the power saving mode. Even restarting the laptop does not solve this issue. We need to keep restarting multiple times and by chances it will be detected. This happens only with the x1-carbon laptops and we have no issues with other brand laptops like Dell. Just to note we have already update the firmware and drivers for the x1-carbon. The Lenovo on-site engineer have also replcace out display ports and motherboard of the notebook but the problem still exist till date.

hi copiman,

Sorry to hear what happened,

This is not an issue with the monitor,

The computer is not able to boot fully.

The power saving mode is when a Monitor is not recieving any signal from the PC,

I believe that the computer stops working after the Lenovo Screen. REason why the Monitor goes into a power Saving mode.

Is this K330B Brand New?
If yes are you plugging it to the right Graphics port.
Are you using VGA or HDMI?

Howdy doodles, here's one for you:

I have this PC I got 3 years ago, it's been great until now:

AMD Athlon 64 @ 2 GHz
2 gigs of ram in dual channel
Ati X1600XT video card
some seagate 160gb HD
420W PSU
LG L1750SQ monitor (17 inch)

Here's what happens:

-I turn on the power (press the button on the extension cord my pc components are connected to - monitor, pc, printer, speakers)

Monitor goes into standby as expected, speakers are on

-I press the on button on the pc and it powers up, I get a green splash screen saying A8R-MVP which is my motherboard, for a few seconds

-then it beeps once, it's a short, singular beep (I've read that this can matter) and winxp starts loading, I get the xp splash screen

-just as xp finishes loading and I'm supposed to get the first glimpse of that glorious microsoft desktop BOOM! the monitor goes into power saving mode (yellow LED)

However, the pc itself continues to function normally; if I randomly start clicking and pressing enter I can hear sounds from games and other programs, so the pc works

I've tried switching the ram around, removing the battery for the bios for a while, reconnecting the cables; I don't know what's causing it, this is a fresh OS install and it did happen a couple of times before I did the reinstall but it fixed itself and the monitor worked upon restart

another thing to note is that if I remove the drivers in safe mode (I'm in safe mode right now) for the video c... Read more

Hey, my computer started to go into ''Power Saving Mode'' 6 to 8 months ago. The only times I saw it go into power saving mode so far, was when I played 2 of my 6-7 installed video games(the rest work just fine). IT ONLY DOES THAT IN THESE 2 GAMES!!!!!! I can browse the internet, do whatever else, but in these 2 games(which worked just fine before but suddenly don't work without having the error after about 10-20 mins).

I enter the game, it lets me play for 10 to 20 minutes approximately and then the monitor turns black and then I hear a ''bzzzzzzzzzz'' in my headphones and at the same time I get the ''HDMI Power Saving Mode'' Error.

I have this computer and this monitor since about 2 years and the 2 games I play since a long period of time too. It just randomly started one day.

I tried lowering the graphics of my games, made sure I had the good resolution, changed my Power Plan to NEVER sleep or turn off. What angers me is that as I said, the game worked very well before and now I can't play a single match without that problem.

My specs:

i7 Processor 2.66 GHZ

nVidia GeForce GT220 Video Card

I need help, please. My computer will not come out of power save mode. I can shut down and restart, but when it comes up, it goes straight to power save mode again. How do I get it out, especially since I can't even get start up screen?

A:Power Saving Mode

Where does it get too before it goes into power save mode? Is it the computer or the monitor going into power save mode?

Yet again I turn to your expertise in times of trouble. I have a Packard Bell pc running Windows Vista and this morning Windows asked to reboot after some updates. It did and since then I cannot get past a blank screen. When I press a key on the monitor it comes up with Analog input: in power save mode. Press any key ....
I have tried turning off power cable to pc and to monitor, and tried pressing F1 and F2 and even delete when repowering all to no avail. I am certain it is something small and appears to be connected with the Windows updates but my Friday-mode brain cannot think of anything else to snap it out of power saving.
Please help.

A:Power saving mode?

Hello ,

Have you tried going into safe mode & checking the device manager to see if you have any bad drivers ?

This may have danaged / corrupted you video drivers and they may need to be uninstalled , then reinstalled

Also , can you enter into the bios to see if the video settings have changed for your VGA / PCI

I have seen weirder things happen from a lose of Power or a Surge

And then again your Chipset could of been damage or corrupted & need reinstalled

These are just thoughts to think about

Try safe mode & the Bios first

I installed XP and Ubuntu and everything was OK. I could play Doom3, PES6, No One Lives Forever and Max Payne flawlessly, using the best graphic settings. But when i'm listening to music with Windows Media Player, the screen goes pink and all i see is cursor. But cursor changes depending on its location. It's shape gets different when it's on text, for example. The Media Player runs still, i can hear the music. And all programs (like IMs) work as they used to be. I use alt+f4 to restart my PC. The same thing happens everytime i run Media Player. I dediced to use Winamp then, and everything was OK.

But then some games weren't running good anymore. For example, Painkiller. I run it, the game begins, i kill some monsters and suddenly the screen goes black and then i see "Power Saving Mode". The music kept for a few seconds and then stop, and keys do nothing. Monitor's led turns blue to orange. Just like when the PC's turned off. Reset was the way to go. I trie... Read more

After my computer sits for a while the moniter enters power save mode like it should but it won't come out of it unless I force restart my computer. I can't even press the power button once and wait for it to shut down properly, because it never will. I have to hold the button until it forcibly shuts down.

Then, after I start it back up and sign in to my profile, the screen goes black and it takes 1-2 minutes for the desktop to load.

I've tried searching on the internet and I've come up with "It's either the monitor or the graphics card, or possibly the cable connecting the 2." Well my moniter tests out fine. I bought a new cable. I bought a 250 dollar amd 6950. It worked fine all day yesterday, but this morning it was stuck in power save mode and did the same song and dance all over again. Can anyone guess as to what's up? (I hope it's not hard drive related because I'm on my 3rd one for this computer as it is)

Its a dell XPS 420 with windows 7

I've had this Gateway 504GR for around 6-7 years now, sometimes when I unplug it or the power gets turned off on it, the computer will boot up and the monitor will say "Power Saving Mode". This only happens once every 3-5 months, and it usually starts working again after a couple days of going into power saving mode. It's been a bit longer this time around though and I'm not sure what even causes this problem. I reinserted graphics card and RAM cards, tried to plugging/unplugging different stuff. Tried hooking the comp up to other monitors (same results), using a different VGA cable ...

I'm running low on options right now.

A:Power Saving Mode (again)

I have seen that when a computer seems to be turning on and nothing displays on the screen it could be a dying motherboard. Check to see if the lights flicker on the keyboard when booting up.
