Envy 15 K100 won't boot, blink code has 2 blinks

Q: Envy 15 K100 won't boot, blink code has 2 blinks

My daughter's laptop has died. When you push the power button the power light on the side comes on and stays on and the hard drive light blinks momentarily then not at all. There is a blink code on the Caps Lock key that appears to blink twice - one blink followed by a second about 1 to 2 seconds later, then a longer wait and the code repeats. There is no LED on any other key. I've tried the hard reset by pulling the battery and pushing the power key for a long time. No change. I've looked up the blink code which says it's a corrupted BIOS and used the Windows key/B key combination before pushing the power button and nothing happens except the blink code continues. This is all that I can find to try with this laptop and the daughter needs it for her online college courses. She bought it from Amazon and it is a refurbished unit. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer fails to boot and gives me a caps lock code. The LED blinks twice. I have tried hard resetting and reseating the memory, but nothing worked. I have had this problem for a fairly long time, however in past the computer would eventually boot up after I forced turned it off and on a number of times. I am at the point now where over the past few days I have been trying this and it so far has still failed to boot up. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to fix this!

My computer began to get blue screens with varying error messages.Next it would have trouble booting up and the caps lock would blink 3 times.Recently it was updating BIOS and after it downloaded and installed, it shut down.Since then, when I attempt to boot, I can hear the fan, however, the screen remains black. Finally, I tried to install BIOS from a USB, however, the screen still remains black. Any thoughts on how to get it to start up?

Hello everybody!I would like to upgrade to an SSD. i have looking for other topics on forum. I was confuse now. A topic say my laptop have a port for m.2 Sata ssd and another say not. Can someone give me the right information and some advices. My laptop have touch screen, use 4th gen Intel Core i7-4510u, GTX 850M, my mother board is Hewlett-Packard 228D Thank you!

A:HP ENVY 15T-K100 SSD Upgrade

Here is the Service Manual: Manual I am sorry to say this thing is clear as mud. Your model shares its Manual with the 17 inch Envy and if you look at hard drive options it says only the 17 inch can be configured with both a regular hard drive and a M.2 drive. However, if you get into the actual instructions it makes no distinction other than saying the M.2 is on select models. I am sure we have had owners of the 15 inch model post here and even attach pictures and although the instructions say you have to flip the system board over to access the M.2 slot it is actually right above the hard drive bay. What is clear is that trying to add an M.2 drive is not end-user authorized and is a bit of a technical challenge. So I am afraid all I can say based on the Manual is that there is probably an M.2 slot in there but it is going to mean nearly complete disassembly to figure out for sure. Sorry.

Faced below issue twice. For first time I got my machines repaired by HP USA it self and it worked for 2-3 months but now suddenly it started same way again. When I got it checked from HP, they detected hardware failure and they replaces the keyboard hardware(as per the records) but I dont think the hardware was actually replaced as I can still see the hardware installation date which is older than the dates when laptop was at service center. Now issues is,When laptop is on AC power adapter supply, keyboard works fine but when it is on battery power supply clicking on one key triggers series of keys. This series of characters always starts from 'q'. I have tried every possible attemp from software end but none of worked. I tried updaing the drivers with HP Assistant Manager,I tried updating BIOS,I tried changind the keyboard language assistance etc but none of above worked. Please advise if any of you have some idea about such issues. This sounds like there is kind of problem with motherboard IC components which are not working as expected when on DC power supply but works when on AC power supply.

Purchased notebook 11/16. Within the first week, the keyboard stopped working and the caps lock key emitted a blink code of 5 long blinks followed by 3 short blinks. I uninstalled the keyboard driver and allowed the system to re-install it.  That appeared to fix it--for a while. The next time that happened, I went through the Device Manager, a line at a time, checking for updated drivers. Almost a dozen devices were updated. That solved the problem--for a while. The notebook is about 6 months old now. I have been using it extensively, mostly video editing.  Two days ago, the problem arose again.  I have observed that I can be in the middle of using the notebook and the keyboard will suddenly shut down and the caps lock key will emit the blink code(s). The blink codes never appear on boot-up. I have run the extensive diagnostics and no problem was found.  This is the main reason that I need the definition of the blink code(s). Thank you. wise_old_owl

Power light solid, battery light blinks 7 times before both lights shut off and repeat the pattern. When chromebook is open, I get no display on the screen. Troubleshooting I have done..... Reboot "Esc" + "refresh" + "Power button" to force into dev mode. no success Charge over night Discharge battery. (Disconnect battery and power, hold power for 10 seconds, reconnect power, attempt to power on, then reconnect battery. No success. Reseated LCD cable (for grins and giggles). After disconnected screen from back cover, I layed it down on keyboard (still having LCD cable connected) and saw backlight flickers after the sequence of beep codes. *flicker only occured while screen was down* Tried replacing screen... no luck.  Before I swap the main board, has anyone seen this before? Been looking for information of beep/blink codes and I get nothing.  Thank you in advanced for your time.

Hey there, EXPERTS!  My laptop has the following problem: Envy m7-k211dx Will Not Power On- LED Near AC Plug Blinks 3x When Power Button is Pressed. I've performed hard reset by taking out battery and holding in the power button... no luck. The 3 blinks of the blue led lite occur only when the AC is plugged in, then when the power on button is pressed. This happens regardless of the battery being in or out. When the AC pin is plugged in, there is no action at all on the led light (no blink, not on)... only if the Power On button is pressed... then 3 blinks and nothing further. I have tried holding the power button for over 30 seconds, but nothing after the initial 3 blinks. I've tried using 2 power cords- both have been 19.5v output, with one being 4.62a and the other an iGo Green power supply with the correct "715" tip. Given that the led light does not illuminate when the power is plugged in, I'm assuming that the battery is not being charged. I can't tell if the battery has a charge or not... it is HP part 756478-421(4ICR19/66), 14.8v, 2620mAh, mfg 2014/11 and says replace with HP spare 75643-001. It is a HP VI04. Sorry if TMI... but better too much than little, right? I feel certain that the 3 blinks by the led, only when AC power is plugged in and the power button pressed, is telling something... and I'd be most grateful if one of you folks could give me some guidance.  Mike

Hi,I recently replaced my laptop's battery because it was faulty (or at least it seemed). The new battery seemed to work fine for a few hours then while charging I got a "no battery detected " message in the battery symbol. Furthermore, when I shuthown the laptop it will not turn back on. The white LED next to the charger input flashes three times.I have tried performing a hard reset and updating the BIOS but it did not seem to help. The only thing that seem to help for a bit was unpluggin the battery cable, holding the power button for about 30 seconds and then plugging in the battery again. I charged the battery for a few minutes and it booted right up. However, after 20-30 minutes of charging, the LED indicator switched from amber to blinking white. I have no idea what else to try.  Thank you.

This notebook is out of support, so I don't know if it's right to post here. When I start the computer the screen never turns on (no background illumination either).  But the LEDs lights up and I get blinking codes. Seem like it's two different stages for the blinking code (I call it "stage 1" and "stage 2"). "Stage 1":When I turn the computer on, the num/caps lock blinks twice several times. In this stage it's possible to turn of computer by holding down power button. If I then start it again it will still be in "stage 1". If I don't turn off it will eventually restart and go over to "stage 2". "Stage 2".Only caps-lock flashes with a constant rate. If flash drive is connected it reads this in 2 about seconds. After about 20 seconds the fan starts spinning for full. I can't turn off other than diconnecting power.  If I reconnect power again and press power botton it continues in "stage2". To get it back to stage one I need to remove the clock battery and hold down power botton. But if I hold down win+B after doing this I still get directly to "stage 2". Therefore I guess it's automatically trying to restore BIOS is "stage 2". I tried to create recovery flash drive with the SP73917 BIOS. When it's unpacked nothing more happens, but I found out it's a SP73917_E.exe and SP73917_F.exe inside the unpacked folder wich can create BIOS flash drive. But I have tried both and nothing happened when I started computer with og without holding d... Read more

two blinks is corrupt BIOS. Connect the power adapter to the notebook and the hold down the Windows key and the B key at the same time. It may take a full minute or so of holding down the two keys, but you should  see an onscreen message responce that says that it is recovering the BIOS.

Good morning to all! My computer was running fine, either with Windows 7 64-bit or with the upgrade to Windows 10 64-bit. My battery is dead, so i use the laptop without it. Just AC cord in. Last night, as i was setting up a Wi-Fi router at home, i left it on for about 3-4 hours. When i finished, i powered it down normally. This morning, i took it out and set it on the dinnign table, and when i powered it up, the leds from the sound, wi-fi and mouse pad stay lit, the fan starts up, the leds from the caps-lock and num-lock blink once, but no bios or OS boot. I powered it down, removed AC cord and reset holding power button for 1 minute+ 3 times, then power cord in and powered it up and the same thing happened, but this time i got 2 blinks from the caps and num lock, then 5 second pause, and another 2 blinks: BIOS corrupted, right? Since i have customed my laptop with an HyperX Fury SSD drive 240Gb from Kingston, i don't have the partitions from HP Recovery or HP Tools, so i tryed to get the BIOS file from HP Support and created a BIOS recovery flashdrive. The BIOS file is not the latest BIOS update tool from HP, it's Winflash, so doesn't allow creating a recovery flash drive directly, so i extracted the contents and put it in a 4Gb flashdrive, formatted in FAT32, Renamed HP_TOOLS, and tryed the whole reset process, then hitting Win Logo + B keys in and pressing Power button for 1-2 seconds to recover BIOS. Worked once out of 7 tries!... Hey all! Hope there's some help around... My t5500 randomly died. Would turn on for a few seconds, without booting then turn itself off. Swapped MB out, now get 234 blinking diagnostic lights (halted before transfer to BIOS control, and the fans slowly get louder.). This is with three different motherboards, two different cpus, two GPUs, two power supplies. If the BIOS isn't being transferred to, could it be corrupted? Is there a way to flash a new BIOS externally myself? This was such a great tower, and I'd rather keep it running than replace. 6x2gig RAM. First gen MB with fans on both bridges. Hey all,

Weird one here. Got myself a new graphics card the other day, upgrading from a Radeon x1650 pro, which died after 4 odd years of good service, to the Radeon HD5450, and everything seems to have gone successful except for since installing it, when I press the power button to boot, the PC's power light will blink 7 times and then boot up normally on the 8th blink.

I was kinda in 2 minds about whether or not to troubleshoot this if I'm honest, but figured I might as well in case it could be causing some kinda damage. I can't see any error's appearing, nothing in event logs, as far as I can tell the PSU should be more than capable, everything seems to be performing as expected, it's just these 8 blinks before the system starts to boot.

I've reseated the memory and Graphics and tried booting with a few non-essential components disconnected, which fixed it for the first boot, but the issue reappeared for every boot after that.

As well as my listed components I've also got a PCI NIC (D-link DGE-528T), wireless KBoard + Mouse, USB Wireless Adapter, a SATA DVD RW and a couple of fans (1x80mm, 1x92mm and 1xLED120mm)

...any ideas?

Cheers,
Sean

So far we have done everthing that was suggested. No luck. Key Borad is not working. Do you have any more Suggestions? Model# Slate 21-k100Serial# 3CQ3520XLBProduct # E2P19A    We have not used this device in over a year becuse it was useless and a waste of money. Now we are trying to find a use for it and now the keyboard has stopped working on it.  We are quickly on the way out for HP.Our Past Experience with HP ended with us buying another manufacture. Just did some research to find out how to upgrade to SSD on my HP Envy17. The previous model it was a simple as pulling the battery, take out ONE screw, Pull the enclosure off, and wa la, you can see the hard drive and pull it out.  Not so with the newer models, noooo. HP's goal was to make it as hard as possible for anyone to work on their own notebook. You litterly have to disect the dam machine to get to the HD. Seriously! You have to remove like 16 screws from the bottom, about half are hidden. Then litterly PRY the machine appart, carefully or you will damage the cables that connect the power switch and keyboard. After all of that pain, you can finally see the hard drive.  Went from a wonderful simple / easy design to access and upgrade to one that is you HAD to INTENTIONALLy design it to be that screwed up. To upgrade the memory, you litterly have to take the computer FURTHER apart and remove the motherboard!  The one component that is probably the most replaced, the Keyboard. You RIVETED the thing in! Really? I worked for HP for 8 years, I am disquested with this example of engineering to screw the customer.  Won't be buying HP for my next notebook.

Preaching to the choir. I will say HP is not alone in this. Three trends: 1. Customers are getting cheaper on electronics and you can't sell at HP's volume unless you are the price leader. That door and screw costs a few extra pennies. 2. Thinner laptops. Harder to engineer an access bay. 3. Support costs. If you give the customer any chance to mess things up, many will.

My  HP Slate is stuck on the HP Logo Splash screen and will not continue to boot.  I have tried to unplug it, reboot it and I even factory restored it (Volume down & power), but nothing works.  I have searched your website for the OS software and boot file, but can't find it. How do I get past the HP Spash screen? My software version is KOT49H.17r.25.1-011.11-WW Thanks in advance
