Preferred Solution: xp restarts since sp2 every 2-3 hours

I recommend downloading and running DRP. It's a recovery tool that has been proven to recover files that most other programs have no luck with. I've even recovered files from freshly formatted or partitioned drives.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/v51TwD. (This link will automatically start a download of DRP that you can save to your computer.)

You cant prevent it from happening, and in fact at the end of this month it goes into limited functionality mode. You can get RTM by buying it from MS or other retail source. Your current activation will not work on the RTM (7600)

Greetings All,

I have had really bad frustrations with the unpredictability of Focus Assist and Active Hours ever since build 1809 on Windows 10 and this has now carried over on two PC?s; a Dell Desktop and a Toshiba Laptop. Here are some observations for the Microsoft Answers Community:

I have my Active Hours set from 7am to 11 PM on both computers. I also have notices checked to receive restart notifications. I will get the typical two notifications about the restarts sometimes on Patch Tuesday or the following day.

Sometimes the restarts are fine going without a hitch within about 1-2 hours after the first update notice. Other times for the past two YEARS I keep getting ?Your Computer Will Need to Start Outside of Active Hours, sometimes for FOUR OR FINE DAYS! The restart is not kicking in after the range of Active Hours have ended. This means, that from 11:O1PM to 7:01 AM I am not getting the restarts outside of Active Hours that Action Center says are waiting. Sometimes I just restart the computer through the Windows Start logo button I can?t stand waiting anymore.

What algorithms determine when these restarts happen outside of Active Hours? Why is there a delay of up to four or five days for a restart to occur for Restarts to happen outside of Active Hours? Microsoft needs to get a more definitive time for when the computer is set to restart outside of Active Hours and we need to see this in the Action Center toaster pop-up. Right-now, we have to g... Hi!
I've read like 400 forum posts with the same problem without finding the solutions.

My computer can run a game (CSGO) for about 1-2 hours then it restarts. No bluescreen. After that it can restart just by opening a new website on chrome.

Specs:
ASUS motherboard z87-A
GTX 970 strix
Intel i5 3.4 Ghz
16 gb ram Corsair
Fractal design 800w PSU
intel 128gb SSD
This is what ive tried:
Removed 1 ram at the time
Removed the GPU (used the built in one on the motherboard when I tried this)
Checked temps on HWmonitor all looks normal. 30-40 degrees on both GPU and CPU
Reinstalled windows 7 and formated the entire drive before that.
Check the volts on HWmonitor and it looks fine.
Ive done a Memtest over night with 0 errors.
Installed old and new drivers for everything.

Ive checked event viewer and it tells me nothing. Only that computer restarted faulty.

When I run a Furmark test it can sometimes run for hours until I press "space" and make the ring disapear then comeback then it restarts.

Hope someone has some clue of what is going on here.

Thank you very much

A:Computer restarts after 1-2 hours of gaming. Tried almost everything. Need ideas of whats going on.

If there's a failure that forces restart, then the EVENTVWR will log it before the restart.

Hi folks,

We need to run a Data Collector Set, to continuously monitor performance of some machines. We created the DCS from a Basic template, configured and started ok.?
However, few hours later the DCS stops, and we get "Access Denied" error when we try to re-start it.?
Deleting the DCS and re-creating it resolves the issue for few hours, but then again the DCS stops few hours later with "Access Denied" error.?
We can not figure out what is causing it. ?
The issue happens to all our Windows boxes, old and new, running different OS, from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2016.?
Any ideas?

Hello Tech Support!
I have been experiencing an unstable desktop pc for about eight weeks now. I need help!! This pc is eighteen months old, purchased from ibuypower. It is running the original OS, OEM win7 64 bit which I freshly reinstalled last week. BSOD crashes, hardlock crashes, distorted image followed by a loud buzzing. Replaced the video card with another XFX AMD Radeon HD 6870, still crashing. Updated video driver, updated BIOS, ran disk check, ran sfc /scannow no integrity violations, ran mem86 for ten passes no errors, removed two memory stixs still crashing, put stixs in other two slots, still crashing. Tried two other stixs still crashing. Temps look good.
Have not tried driver verifier yet. A complete noob here. Would you please help me?

having a big issue with my new computer here, it started when i installed Grand Theft Auto 4, everytime i tried launching the game on Steam/in folder. My computer restarts itself straight away each time! Later on i notice when i left the computer on while i'm sleepin the computer restarts itself sometimes too. Once a BSOD appeared.

I had no other issues with all the other games, til i bought and installed Dead Space today, again the same problem! Restarts when i click Play again!

I have attached a zip file of my minidump if that helps

Any help in resolving this would be most appreciated.

A:Windows 7 PC restarts itself when launching certain games/restarts itself on random

My PC started to restart itself randomly a while ago, but I honestly couldn't tell you what caused it because I dont know! I opened her up and looked inside and checked all the connections (with some I disconnected and reconnected to make sure they were on right) and after that... no more problems! Strange and unhelpful I know... but might be worth checking your connections.

Hi. I have a Nvidia Geforce 460 gtx and whenever i attempt to change my resolution to somthing over 1024 x 768 My computer
restarts... the Native Resolution of my monitor is 1680 x 1050 and for some reason it doesn't even show as an option.

This all started about a week or two ago after a windows update.. At first it was just a resolution problem. so after messing with it for a while I uninstalling drivers and running drive sweeper to No avail.. I then checked my memory and my psu Nothing wrong there I then decided to Roll it back before the update to see if it did anything, after messing with it for 2 days I decided to try a reformat. After the reformat I reinstalled the 260.99 wql drivers and that is when the problems got worse.. I started getting vertical lines on my screen after windows loaded .. After going through a few troubleshooting steps with Evga They set me up with an RMA.. Anyway.. got the new card tonight and the vertical lines are gone but the resolution is still messed up and if i try to use Nvida contol panel to change the resolution my PC restarts.. At this point im a little bit confused

My System specs are

Intel I7 920 (stock)
Asrock x58 extreme
Corsair xms3 1600
EVGA geforce 460
AOC 22 inch 22lvwk
Corsair tx 650 psu

A:Resolution change restarts/restarts after login

Did you uninstalled the old drivers, then ran driver sweeper and re-installed drivers with the new card?

Also do stress test your graphic card with OCCT (both memory and GPU); to be certain that your replacement card is healthy.

Also ensure that power connector for the graphic card is properly seated.

I have a Dell Dimention 2350 , Windows XP Home edition, SP2.
The computer just shuts down at time without error messages. I can be on the net or running any program. Then it just restarts as if I I pushed the start button. A few times , when it restarted, it loaded me into the page that you get when you tap F8 at startup.
I think it's clean from viruses. I have run Spybot and SuperAnti Spyware and AVG.
It has ZoneAlarm for a firewall and runs AVG antivirus. When I opened the inside of the case, it was very clean. No dust on the "fins" or any dust buildup anywhere. I ran PCPitstop and it said 3 drivers were out of date and I believe that I have updated 2 out of 3 of them.
I installed Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal to see if that would help, but it didn't.
I also installed SpeedFan 4.34, to see if I could get a reading on how hot the processor was but I couldn't get the program to show the temp. All it would show was the fan rpm.
I don't know what else to check or download. Any and ALL help is much appreciated !!!
I did download an updated driver for the graphics controller, just because PCPitStop said it needed it. Itwas an Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics controller, and I got it from Dell downloads. After doing that PCPitStop still says that I need to update that driver, along with a mouse driver and an Intel(r) AC"97 Audio Controller.
Any and help is VERY much appreciated !!!

I don't know what to do with this one...
A guy calls up and tells me this:

I burnt a C++ program on your laptop (WinXP).
My date and time are set correctly (The CD was burnt on June 26, 2004 12:12 EDT).
I take the CD out and puts it in a Windows98 machine and it reads the CD was burnt on June 26, 2004 7:12PM.
The Win98 machine clock is set OK and so is CMOS time.

He cannot use it unless he adjusts his Win98 clock five hours ahead.
I checked his BIOS time and it was correct.
Double checked Windows time and it was correct, as well.
The guy was programming, so I figured he knew his way around a PC.
He was using the latest version of Nero.

I know that Eastern time in Windows says -05:00.
That is a five hour difference.
Would that have anything to do with it?

I had to forward that file up to a product specialist (embarrassing).

I'm scratching my head on this one...

My computer has been infected with a couple of different viruses over the last month (vista fix and I can't remember the name of the second one - scanner something). I have followed the tutorials on bleeping computer to remove them, yet my computer is still not behaving normally. I was following the steps on how to post and ran defogger and then DDS. DDS has been scanning for over 24 hours and is still going. Is this normal? I attempted this after the first virus and it ran for almost 2 days before I exited the program and gave up. Please let me know how to proceed.

Thanks,

I recommend stopping it and use an alternate. If you cannot get DDS to work, please try this instead. Close all applications and windows so that you have nothing open and are at your Desktop. Double-click on RSIT.exe to start the program.
If using Windows Vista, be sure to Run As Administrator. Read the disclaimer and click Continue. When the scan is complete, a text file named log.txt will automatically open in Notepad. How many hours can i open my computer so that it wont get trouble?

It would depend on your computer and how hot it may run. If it runs reasonably cool, running a computer overnight shouldn't be a problem. Mine runs around 38?C most of the time (it's running around 41?C right now because the room is 28?C) and I run it 24/7 without any problems.

Welcome to TSG....

Actually even though a computer can be left on all the time it is not a good thing to do for reasons that I will not go into here but they really should be shut-down periodically so they can be re-booted even just to refresh the defaults. nuff of this.

I would like you to install and run this from bootup and the instructions are ther e for that. It is speedfan and it tells about temperatures in a computer. Pleas epost the heat ranges to this thread.

Here is a download to run SpeedFan as a service on boot up here:

I called my ISP a bunch of times and used the live chat on their website but they just told me to unplug **** each time and it never solved anything. Even got a new modem, but I still get dns errors. Contemplating switching from Bell to Rogers, but worried that the problem would still be there.

Here are some pictures of the modem log, I don't know what anything in there means so maybe some of you do.

What makes you think that you should get 3-4 hours...based on the work load you put on the machine? Do you have any idea HOW Toshiba does its battery charge duration testing? Like under what type of work load? You may well be consistently exceeding what they consider normal usage?

I have no further information as to maker or specs on the CD or DVD devices.
Until 3 days ago they were functioning normally.
They are receiving electricity (they open and shut).
All the plugs and leads are in good order from computer to everything else.
A full scan with Housecall from Trend Micro found no viruses.
An aspichk showed that the file ASPIenum.vxd was missing.
A download of forceASPI recovered the missing file.
There are no !! marks in the device manager because they are NOT LISTED anymore.

Question: How do I reinstall the link between computer and device to start and use the DVD and CD players again?

No DMP'S included...

It is much easier to find patterns, etc, when there is more than one crash.
We prefer you wait until you have at least two so that if one is corrupt the other probably wont be.

Then...
We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).

All related to hard disk problems. http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html would be helpful.
Your crashes could mean hard disk corruption, bad sectors, a failing hard disk, Windows files or registry corruption, viruses, or memory problems. If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors checked for all SSDs. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log (you may need to search for wininit instead of chkdsk).
For any drives that do not give the message:
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems
run disk check again as above. In other words, if it says:
Windows has made corrections to the file system
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, make sure the drivers are up to date from the Intel site or Marvell site and not from your motherboard/vendor support site.

make sure it is placed into it's own folder, not a temporary folder. Then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

Is this a new problem with existing applications? (in other words: you used to be able to do what you are trying to do, but now - suddenly - you have a problem where none had been before)?

Is this new problem with new software?
Have you recently changed any hardware or other software?

It appears that the issue happens with the game "Battlefield"
Given that your dump is pointing to hardware, my first guess is that you may have a hardware incompatibility with the game.

1. Please check your hardware to make certain your system should run the game.
2. Please make sure your graphics drivers are updated.
3. Sometimes this kind of issue shows up with "crack"/warez software. I hope that is not the case here.

I am wondering how many hours of video I should be able to put on a single DVD+R before the video quality suffers a lot. I've never attempted more than the suggested 120 minutes so I just thought I'd try my luck here before possibly wasting a disc. Here is the specific info:

DVD:
Sony DVD+R
120 min/4.7 GB

Video files:
1 hour each; 700 MB
AVI Files
640x480 pixels
128kbps bit rate
MPEG Layer 3 audio format
29fps
XVID video compression

I was thinking that I could put 3 of these video files (3 hours of video) on just one DVD without much of a loss in quality. More? Less? Thanks in advance!

A:How many hours of video can I fit?

I put between 3 and 5 hours worth of video on each DVD disk when I burn them. I transfer files from my TIVO to my PC and then burn them as MPEG to play on my portable DVD player at the gym. Picture quality is pretty good even when I record on my TIVO at the lowest quality setting.

Regards,

I normally let Vista perform a regularly scheduled Defrag, but I was having
performance issues that did not appear to be infection related (scanned the
Dell laptop with AVG/Kaspersky online/Trojan Remover and found nothing).

Around 4pm I started "defrag.exe c: -c -w -v" in a dos window, under Vista
SP2.

Well, it displayed a brief text report, early on, in the dos window, and the
drive light has been blinking away, with obvious activity for the past 10
hours!

Here's my Defrag report:

A:Defrag... 11 hours and still going!

Hello Pixelgrower,
You can stop the process with no problems.
I would recommend this Defragging tool, it's quick, easy to use, and it's free.

Download Auslogics Disk Defrag 3.1.0.65 - Improve your computer's performance and stability - Softpedia

The drive will always blink, as it is continually writing to the system restore for a backup, and there is always a process accessing the HHD at one time or another.
Follow the link to download and give it a try, hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

Hello

I have had blue screens for a very long time now. 95% of the times it is while I'm playing video games. Last night though I had about 10 BSOD's within 2 hours. A couple of months back the same thing happened. It is getting really frustrating now and I am willing to pay for new PC components if required. As long as someone can tell me what exactly is wrong with my PC.

Info
- Windows 7 64-bit full retail version
- CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz
- Motherboard: Asus P5QL Pro
- RAM: DIMM1: 2x Corsair XMS2 CM2X2048-6400C5 2 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM --- 4 GB total
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 (896 MB)

Any help is very appreciated!

I attached the necesarry files as well

A:10 BSOD's within 2 hours
