Yoga 3 14 80jh - Fan Always Running

Q: Yoga 3 14 80jh - Fan Always Running

I have just started using a the above device with Windows 8.1 installed. I'd be really interested to know if there is a way to stop the fan running about 90% of the time. I've read the thread about the high pitched noise, which I don't have.I've updated all drivers and the bios.I've run the fan cleaner and taken the back off to check all is well internally.I've checked in the Tasm Manager to see if anything is being a processor hog but nothing sticks out. Nothing appears to stop the fan running. That said, the machine is very responsive, so it's not all bad! Do I just get myself a cooling pad and deal with it? Or is there anything else I can do/try?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm looking to buy an SSD to replace the dying SSD storage drive on my Yoga 3, Model 80JH. There's not much information out there on what specs I should be looking for to ensure it's compatible. Today I replaced the thermal compound (repasted) on my CPU/GPU cooler heat sink of my Yoga 3-1470 with i5-5200U (no dedicated graphics card) and there are the results: Before repaste: There you can see (orange line) how my CPU throttling. Max temps are reaching 76C. After repaste:No throttling, max temps at 63C average 60C, constant fan noise. Here only compared graphs:To sum up my results, I gained a -13C lower temps at the CPU full load 10 minutes stress test, have no throttling and especially constant and quieter fan noise when watching films or doing office work. Hi we have a Yoga 3 Notebook 80JH and we are having issues starting it. If left alone for a day or so it may boot up, but due to a failed installation of Windows 10, I would like to restore to factory defaults / image. If I restart or shutdown the notebook, it will NOT power up the screen.  The keyboard backlight *may* light up but nothing appears on the screen. Plugging in an HDMI monitor, the Lenovo windows loading screen shows (spinning circles) but then even that then shows black. This appears to be a common failing with these notebooks. I have googled the issue, and followed various 'tricks' like holding power down for 20 seconds whilst the power cable is out, all to no avail.   What appears to be missing is an explanation as to what is going on. Holding the 'Novo' button down makes the notebook act as if the power button had been pushed, again only showing the lenovo loading screen for a bit on the extra HDMI monitor before showing no signal. Any ideas?

Hi guys, I am opening this post because I think that it could be useful to everyone who would like to solve several issues related to this laptop. I think that it is a really good notebook but it needs a lot of work to have it working in a proper way.So first of all I am posting here a link of a doc in which I am monitoring several issues I encountered and how I solved them. I know that it is not very easy to read it because its style is personal notes-like but I am sharing it anyone...probably someone can find the information it needs.Lenovo Yoga 3 1470 80JH monitoring doc

A:Lenovo Yoga 3 - 1470 (80JH) - General issues to so...

In this second post I am sharing the configuration to use with Notebook Fan Control software (probably some of you already know about this software if you hate the noise which fans of this laptop are able to do!). I added of course some considerations I noticed in preparing this config. Here we are... Yoga 3 1470 80JH using Windows 10 and NBFC 1.4.2.I appreciated a lot the work done by Mr. Cheeze but I found it incomplete, so I basically investigated the issue a bit more.I did not open the notebook but I found online that it is equipped with 2 fans. So, first step was adding the 2nd fan. Then I started to investigate if we can effectively control the fans and the answer is NO, but we can play a bit to force them to have a behavior. My target was only one: REDUCE the FANS NOISE and consequently their speed, because I think that this laptop is almost able to work in fanless mode (and believe me I stress it a lot, especially in terms of multitasking). Before showing my personal code to be used in NBFC I am giving you some information I retrieved by the Read&Write software (32bit version works well).?When Fans starts HEX values show up at position 6 and 254. These are the 2 actual speed values of the fans.?The target values (so where you have to write the desired fans speed) are in position 86 and 176. I am not totally sure if they are the effective position to write but they seem the only position which considerably vary according to the change of... Read more

I've had my new Yoga 370 for just a couple of days, and the first thing I note is that the fan runs a lot, and the laptop generates quite a lot of heat - and that's before I've installed much. I opened it up and replaced the original 128 GB with a 512 GB Samsung 951, so most testing is with that, but the fan ran high with both. Using Speccy, I find that with just Firefox and one tab open, the system temp started at 70, then fell to 55-65.HWMonitor reported (Firefox, 3 tabs) core temps of 60-80, with overall system temp at 70.Now, it's settled to 45-50, so it's not entirely consistent. Advice on what an appropriate temperature would be?My wife had this same problem with her Yoga 260, and got it replaced with one that caused no problems, so I may have to go that route as well. On a side note, I've removed the back exactly once, to replace the SSD. I planned to swap them back to see if that changed anything, and I find that one of the screw heads is already stripped. I tightened all screws no more than finger tight, so I'm at a loss to explain this. Any tips on getting the screw out?

Hello, Excuse my low level of knowledge when it comes to PCs, but since the last Windows 10 update I made yesterday, the cooling fan runs non stop, at moderate and max speed. It has never stopped today; only when I closed the laptop's lid it stopped (sleep mode).I made a BIOS update when I purchased the laptop (last month) - it had an update for the fan noise, but I think somehow the Window's update has deactivated it, or I don't know why else it will spin all the time, even with no opened programs.I also want to add that the temperature seems quite high (it's very hot above the keyboard). I have not made any other changes to my applications nor the daily activity (I use the laptop for work apps and the browser mostly). Please help me find a solution to this, I'm very worried.

make sure Turbo is not enabled on cpu since when thats enabled it will make cpu work around 100% - 120% so then fan is constantly on even at idle so yeah if you disable turbo it should make fan more silent.

HI, So i recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga 500-14ISK (Modl 80R5003HUK) from a local retailer, and although i have no issues with the machine itself in terms of using it, i have issues with the machine running Windows 10, especiall after checking Lenovo's list of supported Windows 10 machines only to find my machine to not be on this list.( https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/documents/ht103535) Main issues i have with the OS is the speed at which everything seems to run on the OS, as well as screen jitters when performing actions which should not cause screen jitter such as basic browsing or just moving the mouse across the screen. I have tried installin the most up to date versions of the drivers for the video card and the chipset. I would also like to note that i purchased the same Yoga from the same retailer before and had to return it the day after due to discovering the audio jack didnt recognise devices and was told it should be written off as a problem with the machine not running windows 10 well. Is there any solutions anyone can offer me in regards to fixing this? Also, is there any way a warranty could cover the return of the laptop to get one that is actually supported with the operating system it is running on. I would also like to note that the option to downgrade to an earlier build of windows (7 or 8) is no longer available. Thanks.

A:Yoga 500 - Problems with running Windows 10

Hi, I have YOGA 500-15ISK. (i7-6500U / 8GB DDR3 / SSD 256GB / nVidia 940M). For the first time with my laptop, I had some performance issues after completion all win10 updates (mouse lags, slow restart time, varying system response and speed), so I decided to format all partitions (save some hdd space from these oversized recovery and driver partitions) and instal fresh win10 + with driver booster software I updated all drivers (win 10 don't update all drivers to lastest). And after that I don't have any performance issues (only my ears are bleeding because of cpu fan is very noisy - but it's all yogas issue).  Before visiting your retailer, you can try clean instal. (I think system reinstall can't affect warranty, but I'm not 100% sure.) In my country we can return goods up 14 days after sale, but after 14 days you must have proper reason to return your laptop, so it mostly depends on your retailer if will accept your performance issues as real deal.. maybe they will send it to lenovo service center and you will have to wait one month and after that they will return your old laptop with reinstalled system.. or maybe you have some real hw problem and they will repair it or replace it with new piece.. Tomas

My Yoga 2 11 bought had been getting good battery life (5-6 hours) but now (in an instant) it's draining very fast (1-2 hours MAX on a full charge) and it's unusually hot underneath. It's always been used on a clean, hard surface. Help???

A:Yoga 2 11 Running hot with short battery life

Hi David_EMG  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It would help if you can generate a battery report ( ac charger unplugged).
How is the battery health if you hover the cursor on the battery icon below?

Battery is a consumable part and depletes its resources in time and heat is one of the factors that can affect battery life. Try running hardware diagnostics along side with this and this test for comparison.

Check the battery status LED indicator (page29) if it goes to the changes from amber blinking to solid white on full charge .  Calibration either using the energy manager via battery gauge reset can also help. Manually you can allow the battery to completely drain and wait for 1-2 hours and then charge it full.

Update us how things go.

Regards

I upgraded my yoga to Windows 10 soon after purchase a year and a half ago.  I have had few problems but one persists, intermitent problems charging with the AC adapter. There appear to be many Bios updates since the one that came with my yoga. I am running v1.03 and would like to update to version 96CN31WW(V1.17) but am justifiably concerned. - There is no means of backing up and restoring the current Bios so an update failure could be catastrophic.- The Bios readme file indicates it is for Windows 8 and 8.1.  I read a forum post that indicated that this shouldn't be a   problem on WIndows 10 and I agree but there is so little feedback in this forum or elsewhere about successful or   unsuccessful Bios updates on Yoga 2 13 so I am nervous about proceeding.- I don't know if this Bios update will solve my problem (no documentation from Lenovo about what any of the prior   Bios updates fixed) and there is always the possibility that this change could make my notebook more unstable. Again,   no means of going back.- For the reasons above, I always consider a Bios update a last resort. Anything else I can recover from and I am out of   warranty. I would appreciate any feedback on the stability and success of 96CN31WW(V1.17) updates and any information about what problems prior Bios updates for Yoga 2 13 addressed.

Are you, like me, starting to get annoyed with the active pen not responding. Then when you go to the wacom driver settings you get the error message "The Tablet driver is not running". Forcing you to restart the machine or the service? This is a normal problem that pisses a lot of users of wacom products in general. And i found this happens alot, specially if you have several wacom products like i have a Cintiq connected to my X1 yoga.  Well surprisingly there is a really easy fix for this.  It's windows 10 stopping the service after it wakes up from sleep. To fix it just tell windows to try harder to keep it running. ? Run "services" and find the wacom services. The service you looking for on a X1 Yoga is Wacom ISD service or/and the Wacom Professional Service if you have an additional wacom device like the Cintiq connected.Right click the service and go to properties.Go to the tab recovery and set the optional fail response on first and second failure to "restart the service".there is also someone reporting that they have to set their startup type to manual. But for me it works fine in automatic. Here is a video from ma'boy MichaelLawLtd that explains how, i give him all credit for this solution:  I set it to restart on second and third attempt and have never had an issue since.

X1 Carbon Yoga 1st GenModel number: 20FQCTO1WW It worked great since I received. One day I upgraded BIOS to the latest (it was v1.23 by the time), then I noticed the fan keeps running regardless the actual CPU usage. Very occasionally, fan will stop and start again soon. Often time, the fan will start to run as soon as the laptop is turned on. It's quite annoying because of the fan noise (even though it's not so loud), and I'm sure it will cause more battery consumption.  Recently I upgraded to the latest v1.24 BIOS, but the problem was still the same. Anybody has the same issue? A bug in recent BIOS firmware?

If so, have a look on the following post, this should show if your device has been tested with the update yet:

From what I can see, your unit does not seems to have made the list, which leads me to believe that this will be the cause of the issue, I would recommend that you revert back to the previous version of Windows, and observe if the fault still occurs or not.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

Hello All, I have an issue with my YOGA 700 laptop when logged in multiple accounts simultaneously. Whenever an account is left logged on and the user is switched as opposed to logging off, the cpu usage ramps up very high with several RUNDLL32 processes being the culprit. I have checked the RUNDLL32 processes with Process Explorer and the command line are as follows:C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe C:\ProgramData\LenovoTransition\Server\x64\EnableAutoRotation.dll,RunCustomMonitor The directory is as follows: C:\ProgramData\LenovoTransition\Server\x64\ The only solution I have found is restarting the laptop. The problems comes back when again more than one user is logged in. Also, the rundll32 processes only run high cpu on one account at a time and there doesn't seem to be a preference for a specific account, all of them are plagued one at a time with the problem. Disabling the Yoga Mode Control service is a fix but that breaks the mode control which is essential in this laptop. I have tried installing all the available software on the Software page foor the YOGA 700. The rundll32 processes drain the battery very fast and I can't always log off other users when they have apps open!  I have posted a screenshot of process explorer showing 2 rundll32.exe processes using 25% cpu usage each. However, sometimes up to 4 rundll32.exe processes open up and they use combined 100% cpu usage, which makes the laptop run very hot and slow. In t... Read more

Just curious, why is the new Thinkpad X1 Yoga I7, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, FHD about $1,000 more than the similarly equipped commercial Lenovo 910?

Is it the ThinkPad brand name? The eraser nubbin? The 2 combined?

Just curious.

I've got a friend who needs a new laptop. She likes the touch/fold aspect of my 1st gen Thinkpad X1 Yoga. Do you all think she would be happy with the commercial Yoga 910?

Any real reason to get the new plain FHD ThinkPad X1 Yoga instead of the similarly equipped commercial Yoga available at Best Buy besides spending an extra $1000 for the ThinkPad brand name?

I've owned 6 various ThinkPads since 2011 FWIW. I get it, they're cream of the crop. But I kinda got sticker shock when I just priced out a plain FHD (and we need nothing more) X1 Yoga. About  $2,800, wow!

A:Why is the ThinkPad X1 Yoga $1,000 more than a similar Yoga 910?

@Jelks, The biggest difference I see between the X1 Yoga (2nd) and the Yoga 910 is active pen support which seems to be missing from the 910. You could use a capacitive stylus, but expect fingertip resolution, not pinpoint, and no pressure-sensitivity. Fewer USB ports: no HDMI or MicroSD; no Thunderbolt. No TPM module, if you need to store encrypted creditials, e.g., for BitLocker. Not sure about battery life; they claim up to 9 hours of local video for the 910 vs. up to 15 of MobileMark for the X1. Not an apple-to-apple comparison. You're not going to get the (soon to be patched, at least for now) security hole that is Intel's vPro management tech. You may not get Windows 10 Pro, possibly just Home (but you could always give Microsoft the money to upgrade if you need BitLocker or Remote Access). You're not going to get all the "mil-spec" design and testing etc, but if it's a personal machine, you're probably going to avoid abusing it. As you suggest, the "wave" keyboard -- including the trackpoint "eraser nubbin" -- is definitely going to be more expensive on the ThinkPad than the plain Yoga keyboard. I used two generations of ThinkPads (T61p and W520), but about 3 years ago I switched to a Dell XPS 13. A year or so ago, I ordered a X1 Yoga 1st gen for my wife and she likes it very much, so I am pretty familiar with the design and capabilities. TLDR: I think most people would be happy with the 910 vs. X1 unless they want the active pen. Als...  New year, new Yogas. How does Lenovo?s Yoga 910 stack up against last year?s Yoga 900? Let?s find out.Hardware & Design The Yoga 910 looks very similar to the Yoga 900. They both have the same dimensions, which means that my sleeve for the Yoga 900 fits the Yoga 910 perfectly. The Yoga 910 is a bit heavier because of its all-metal unibody design. Last year?s Yoga 900 had a magnesium alloy casing, and a rubber-like material inside the chassis. With the Yoga 910, the entire chassis is metal. That gives it a more premium look and feel.  Even though the hinges on the Yoga 900 and Yoga 910 look nearly identical, the Yoga 910?s hinges are much more sturdier than the Yoga 900?s. This means that there?s less wobble when typing on the keyboard or touching the screen. Take a look at the difference:  There?s also the addition of a fingerprint reader, which is always great to have. It?s quick and responsive, and always recognized my fingerprint. PortsThis year?s Yoga 910 is focused mainly on USB C. There are two USB C ports, one USB A port, and a headphone/microphone jack combo. Last year?s Yoga 900 had two USB A ports, one USB C, SD card reader, and mini-HDMI. Because of the move to USB C, you?ll need a USB C to SD card reader or USB C to HDMI adapter if you?re looking for those functionalities.   DisplayThe Yoga 910?s display is larger, crispier, and brighter than last year?s display. Even though both ... Read more

I've had a Yoga 2 Pro for two and a half years. I recently overheated it. I replaced it with a Yoga 900. After six days the screen cracked (working with Best Buy now to get an exchange but hopes are slim...). In the likely event that BB does not cooperate, is it possible to take the screen out of my Yoga 2 Pro and use it to replace the screen in the Yoga 900? Thanks for any insights.

The MTM 59418309 is for a Yoga 2 Pro.  In support, it and my serial number are showing Yoga 2 13. The drivers for the Yoga 2 13 (like BIOS) are returned...  Is this a problem?  Should I be using the Yoga 2 Pro BIOS or the Yoga 2 13 BIOS which is coming up. The sticker on the bottom says Yoga 2 Pro.Model 20266MTM 59418309

So three weeks ago, I was working on my Yoga 3 14" and popped to get a drink, I came back and the screen was blank, I assumed it had gone to sleep, so hit a key to wake it up. Nothing! The laptop was plugged in, so I know it hadn't run out of charge. After sheer panic, I contacted Lenovo, who told me that my warranty was out by a month, and that I could send it to them to diagnose, and they would tell me how much to fix, then it was up to me if they did or not.One I wouldn't be happy about not having my laptop for a couple of weeks minimum, but also it had all my private information on.I turned to good old google, and stumbled across this forum, and somebody with the same problem.Their solution was to unscrew the back case of the laptop (as mentioned above, my warranty was already out), remove the battery cable, hold down the power button for 30 seconds and reconnect the battery cable.I did this, and low and behold it worked. Fantastic!Only for it to happen twice more that week, and approx twice a week since. Then yesterday my brother contacts me saying his laptop has died, just won't turn on. His is the Yoga 2 Pro, I told him to bring it to mine, and I would try what I had to do to mine, to his, low and behold, the same solution worked. Seeing as I wasn't the first person to have this issue, and I'm guessing others have used the solution but not commented, this is obviously a fault with the Yoga range. I'm hoping that Lenovo can address this issue, as I fe... Hello, we got 2x Try-and-Buy Lenovo Yoga Tablet Laptops (an X1 Yoga and a Yoga 260) to evaluate their suitability for our company, since we intend to upgrade several of our employees laptops. However, ever since we got the devices we noticed on both of them frequent issues with the display and waking from sleep. Very often the laptops won't wake up properly with the screen staying black. In those cases the display-backlight seems to turn on, and I assume the system is running somehow in the background. Putting the computer to sleep again (e.g. by closing the lid) makes the computer wake up properly on the second attempt. Different error in the same category is when a video is running and the laptop is connected to AC - plugging out the AC cord made the screen go black while the media content's sound kept playing. All drivers were updated to the newest version via Lenovo System Update 5.07.0029. Any ideas? I also tried to open a support ticket, but Lenovo wanted to send and install a new display (!). Apparently, that seems like a driver/software issue?! Best regards

What are the differences, if any? Also, is there a Lenovo application that detects the installed drivers and prompts me to download newer versions if available? I can't seem to find anything similar to the Lenovo Updater that I had on my Y-50. Thanks

A:Difference between Yoga 900-13ISK and Yoga 900-13I...

Good day.

The major differences I see, looking at: http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/Lenovo_Yoga_900_13_inch are: the SK2 has Intel Iris HD 540 graphics, slightly different CPUs and PCIe SSDs.

Regarding driver updates, there's a feature in Lenovo Companion that assists with that.

Hope this helps clarify.
Regards.
