I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've tried numerous times to install SP1 for Vista Business 64. It shows up in my windows update I click install and it gets to stage 3 of 3 100% and then claims it didn't install and reverts all changes. When I go back to the windows update after it doesn't install it claims that it is pending and there is a new update for me which is KB938371. I install that and then it switches to SP1 has failed but SP1 is available for install again. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3033929)

Installation date: ?3/?11/?2015 8:57 AM

Installation status: Failed

Error details: Code 80004005

Update type: Important

A security update. . .

I can't find any info on this error.  Tried the update twice and both times it failed.

A:Update KB3033929 fails with error code 80004005

You may want to try the following:
1) Running the following FIX-it (for resolving WUS issues)
  LINK:  ~http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

2) Then change windows update to "manual" update mode (as aposed to install updates automatically)
3) Scan for updates
4) Uncheck and then "hide" KB KB3033929
The update should no longer download or install going forward.
You can then revert the WUS to ?automatic? if you desire (recommended).
Perhaps MS will FIX and re-release this in the future.
At that point you could choose to ?unhide? the patch and then
try to reinstall it at that time.

A:windows 7 Sept security pack error code 80004005

You should never pay for 3rd party software like Tech Utilities for things you can do in Windows for free.
First, go to Start/Search and type CMD, right click the CMD results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Command Prompt type SFC /scannow and press enter. This will restore any missing or corrupted Windows files.
If you still have problems, download the Windows 7 Update Troubleshooter Fix It

Hey all,

I'm having issues with updating windows 8 Pro for quite some time now.
I cannot do system restore, as a lot have time has passed since this issue started and I don't have a valid restore point available.

I am getting this error: 80004005 - google has not been very friendly for this one..

I can see that its not just one that's failing:
KB2871389
KB2889784
KB2883201

I've attached the CBS log and a screenshot. I'm really not sure what I can do here, I tried working something from the logs, but couldn't figure out anything, would love your assistance.
Formatting \ Repair are not an option as I want to keep my existing installed software (for the time being).

Thanks in advance!
Edit:
Forgot to note that I:
1) tried installing some of these updates manually, all failed
2) tried removing the downloaded updates so they'll be redownloaded - it failed as well

Hi everyone. I recently built the computer that I am on and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit in December.

Everything's been working great and no updates have had issues installing until SP1 came out today. It fails every time with error code 80004005, unknown error. I am fairly certain that it is due to the Windows Mail hack, but any attempt to restore the files back to the original versions (I've tried copying them from another machine and sfc /scannow) have not resolved the issue.

On another note, I've read that the same error came up when people did service pack installs for Vista. I have attempted many of the "best practice" fixes for these cases - disabling services, antivirus, startup entries, etc., but this has not resolved the issue, either.

Any advice/suggestions would be great. Thank you in advance!

Hey all,

So I am currently reinstalling Windows on my dad's old laptop after the hard drive decided up die on us, and I stumbled on a problem that's a bit too hard for me to fix.

Namely, I am completely unable to install any Windows Update. Not even MSE will install.

I tried running SURT, but got error code 0x8000247
I also tried running SFC /SCANNOW, it ran the verification fase until 98% and then stated that there where unfixable problems.

The displayed error codes are:
In WU: "8024A000"
In SURT: "0x8000247"
Whilst installing MSE: "0x80070643".

Attached you will find CBS.log and MSINFO with my system specs.

I am not able to install these updates, maybe any other updates in general. After attempting the install the following install window says, "Windows Update encountered an unknown error." Perhaps a driver issue?

Hi
Windows Update has been trying to install the same 9 updates now since yesterday. Prior to that it's updated with no problems. It goes through all the motions, including having to restart the computer to finalize the updates and it goes through that also, then the Update window says it failed and the error code.
WU then starts the whole thing all over again. Right now it's still on my taskbar and the restart button on the pc has the WU icon ready to finalize after restarting.

Hi Michael:

Did you try to install the update again manually?
There are some errors that are simply a matter of bad timing, and they can be caused by busy websites and slow Internet connections, or a number of other factors. Sometimes you can fix these problems by trying to install the updates again.
1. Open Windows Update by swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), tapping or clicking Settings, tapping or clicking Change PC settings, and then tapping or clicking Update and recovery.
2. Tap or click Check now, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your PC.
3. If updates are found, tap or click Install updates.

Hi,

I've got a Dell netbook with a problem. It's running Win7 Starter. When I go to check for updates, it first wants to install the latest Windows updater, but that fails with error code 80004005. If I try again I get error 800700B7.

After trying system restore and running SFC, which found a trivial (I believe) tcpmon.ini error, I finally opted to restore the system to factory condition. Surprise, the exact same error persists.

I can do a lot of updating via local file stores, but I want this machine to be updateable on a continuing basis.

Also, I have a Win7 installation disk. When I tried a repair install, it tells me that the existing system is a later version and it refuses to install.

The only thing I have left is a fresh install from the disk. But I have no idea what is going on here.

Please follow the instructions at Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data - then we may be able to see what we're dealing with.

I get this pop up message Setup.exe Fatal Error: 80004005 code when I try to download Trademaven.com onto my computer. My PC is a desktop I've had since 2004, Systemax from Global Direct. It broke last year and I couldn't fix it so I got a new laptop. But now I got it running again. Found out the monitor died. R&R monitor now it's working again but it is not letting me download certain programs. It let me download Hijackthis, and I ran it and made a copy of the log. Would this help? I don't know how to interpret the data. I hooked up an HP officejet 4200 printer today, and installed a second monitor; I recieved a VDI to VGA adapter I needed today. I also had problems with the computer locking up whenever it sat idle for a short time, but I downloaded a free registry cleaner yesterday called Eusing Free Registry Cleaner and my PC no longer locks up. OS: Win XP with SP 3 installed I've googled the error message but I was unable to find anything I could use to fix this. Thanking you in advance for any help you can offer. Joe

A:Unable to Download Programs - Get Setup.exe Fatal Error: 80004005 code

Hi jcali -First I would go to Control Panel > Add Remove and make sure all traces of the Trademaven.com program are removed, just to be safe -I found this quote on that company during the time I was researching it -Trademaven TPT is it a scam? Sure seems like it?They use the address of the Chicago Board of Trade, which is a valid and existing address, but there is no mention of any 'business' named 'Trademaven' operating there. It's just trying to 'legitimatize' him by using a known address. There was an article with it (a bit long to post here) but if I am wrong please tell me now so that I can rephrase this answer - Do not post any logs etc, here unless you think there may be infections involved and I can redirect the post -You can run a disk check also with this code below - Copy/paste it in the Run Box, close all open programs and the computer will reboot in 30 seconds after you click on OK -CMD /C ECHO Y|CHKDSK C: /R | SHUTDOWN /R /T 30This will take 30 to 45 mins to run, so please let it finish its 5 stage check/repair -Thank You -

So few days ago at night my computer fans got louder than usual and i just closed my computer but after that night my cpu usage and overall performance has gone worse than what it has ever been.
I can barely keep software's up anymore without them slowing down my whole computer and i'm not sure if it's all because this update that has keep failing and the fact that my computer isn't up to date without it.

Things i have tried to fix the cpu usage/ windows update problem:
?disabled most startup programs
?did sfc/scannow but it didn't help
?ran all avast cleanups (no viruses found)
?re installed avast and avast cleanup
?disabled some unnecessary parts of avast to help with cpu but it didn't fix the problem
?made sure that there isn't multiple antivirus
softwares up at the same time
?opened up my computer case and cleaned fans, case etc from dust (i think this helped a bit with the cpu but my computer still can't handle any games that it was able to handle
few days ago)
?tried downloading and manually installing the update but even then it failed
?ran Windows Update troubleshooter and tried to
fix windows updates but it didn't help either
?disabled superfetch but it didn't do anything so i turned
it back on

+ my computer has 201 Gt of free space so i don't think that's causing the cpu problem either.
i'd be really happy if someone could help me with these issues that i am facing.

I am running Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 and everytime I try to install IE11 from Windows update it gives me the 9C48 error. I've tried downloading and installing the IE 11 standalone installer but it keeps giving an error that "Setup cannot continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer is installed on your computer".

I have been searching Google and these forums and I noticed people attach their CBS and checkSUR logs after running sfc /scannow, so I am doing that as well in hopes of someone being able to help.

I have tried so many different fixes, CheckSUR, subinacl, MS Hot fixes, uninstalling IE11 etc. I hope someone is able to help. Thanks in advance for your help.

Running Windows 7 Home Premium on an Asus X53U Laptop. Windows build 6.1.7601. AMD c-60 Proc, 1.0 Ghz, 8.0GB Physical memory installed.

Can't get IE 11 to install, error code 9C59 after running SURT. The old error message was 9c47. Updates shows that IE10 is an optional update, if you attempt install it ends on 9C48. Likely because IE10 is already installed. (saw somewhere that is what the 48 code means in the error message).

Before reading this forum I read I should uninstall ie10. That was not good, got browser with no address bar and it was not in full screen. Ran system restore and found this forum.

Ran SURT KB947821, took 4.5 hours, no errors, no msgs just a long execution. Ran sfc /scannow as Administrator, ended with message "Windows Resource did not find any Integrity Violations.

I've attached to CBS zip files as I read system only accepted 8.0MB file size. My zip was 9.xMB so I split into two and will have to post second file. Sorry if I've done this wrong.

Not sure what I should do next.

I've downloaded the update for my laptop through windows update 3 times now. Each time it completes download, then restarts, configures updates, then gives me the notification: "We couldn't finish installing updates" Following that, a check of my update history shows no failed attempt or any reference to the update being downloaded. There is not at any stage an error code.
I have run the Windows Update Trouble Shooter with no result.
Any ideas will be welcome.

(I have a monthly isp download limit of 10 gb and with the speed i get it takes 4 hours to download the update so it has to be done after midnight so it doesn't count against the download limit )

A:Anniversary update won't install - no error code

Hi, download the ISO manually and create a bootable medium (which is useful in various circumstances).
(How - where- see the Tutorial section or search the net- not difficult).

That way you download once and can retry and have it available for other purposes. Also you avoid issues with Windows update.

From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!

Disable any AV. Disconnect any devices you don't need. Uninstall any program that affects or modifies your GUI.

Do a clean boot then try the upgrade using the Win 10 DVD/USB.

If it fails again, you can have a look at the log:
Windows Update logs are now generated using ETW (Event Tracing for Windows).
Please run the Get-WindowsUpdateLog PowerShell command to convert ETW traces into a readable WindowsUpdate.log.

Hello, I hope someone can help.

I can't install Internet Explorer 11. Windows Update goes through the installation, and then fails with a "Code 9C59" error. Been fighting this for weeks, tried the update nearly a dozen times, still fails.

I have run SURT several times, and it seems to complete normally, but it hasn't fixed the problem. Just ran it again this evening, as instructed in the "Windows Update Posting Instructions".

Then ran 'sfc /scannow' as instructed (this is probably the 5th time I've run it). It completes with a message that it found some corrupted files but could not fix them.

Finally, ran the IE11 update again, which failed again , and grabbed a screen shot.

The screen shot of the update error is attached. I also tried to attach the Zip'ed CBS logs, but the upload failed: think it may be too big (it's 25 MB). Any suggestions on how to work around that?

Appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks,
Roger H.

I suspect that part of your problem is due to strange time-shifts that appear in your CBS log.

Also, you have a large number of filters present - this may be overloading your system.

What AV's are currently installed - and what other AV's have ever been installed?

Hi, this particular update has refused to install correctly since the 14th. Other updates have installed with no issue. Ran SURT and tried to manually install it from direct download.

Any help much appreciated.

A:Error code 80070490, Update 2790113 fails to install

Hi zatoichi,

As you've correctly isolated, Windows in your system has failed to install an update on numerous occasions:

Code:
2013-02-28 17:06:12, Info CBS Failed to get session package state for package: Package_3_for_KB2564958~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1 [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]
Though unlikely, you may still try resetting the 'Windows Components' to see if that helps: How do I reset Windows Update components?

If the issue persists, please try a manual install: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...ng=en&id=27653

You may also refer to the following 'Microsoft Article' that recommends 'Windows Repair' in this case, if 'System Update Readiness Tool' fails to fix it: Windows Update error 80070490

Hope this helps.

Hi!
That's what's happening.
I have tried internet research solutions to no avail. Finally had to come ask for help from you guys!

I uninstalled the previous Java update (jre-7u71-windows-i586.exe) I had on my laptop. Then tried to install the latest update (jre-8u31-windows-i586.exe). It would start to install, then I would get error code 1603.

I tried to reinstall the older update. It would not reinstall. Same error code 1603. I guess I am currently without Java.

That sums up the basic problem. Can someone tell me how to fix this?

Thanks.
