Over 1 million tech questions and answers.

Q: orange white orange blue white green etc.

I have had 3 different people now tell me conflicting things about wiring cat 5 2 of which are qualified networking people, (I'm not, I'm just dabbliung and trying to sort out my home)

When wiring up a patch cable, 1 person said it has to be in the following order due to the green and greenwhite white being transmit wires or something..?
(not sure about the order of then greens and blues but it was roughly that)

The other person said he does it like this purely for convention, and the 2nd netwoking guy said it doesnt matter as long as they are the same at either end. and for crossover you just reverse the sequence.
I'd be enclined to o with the it doesnt matter which order, as they are only wires the colour of a wire doesnt meen jack surely. its just to help you get the order correct... no? its like people who say you shouldnt do 123456 in the lotto as thatll never come up... well newsflash its statistically the same as getting 6 randomly ordered numbers.

Anyways. i was interested to know what the consensus is?

Preferred Solution: orange white orange blue white green etc.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Today I upgraded my motherboard and when I booted it started up normally, showed the first second or so of the windows logo then went to an orange screen with white stripes, as in the picture below:

I have tried:
Booting into safemode
Replacing the GPU
checked the RAM
Rebuilt the MBR
Checked the partitions
Made Sure everything is plugged in

I have an SSD with windows on the C: and a HDD with a few programs on D: . I have ran the Windows recovery programs as well.

A:Orange With White Stripes

you would need to re-install windows and also the chipset drivers for the new motherboard - unless its identical to the old motherboard ?

is it an identical replacement ?

post back the make and model and revision of the old board - should be written on the actual board itself
and the same for the new motherboard

Can I adapt a orange coaxial output (see pic if i have the wrong name for it) to red and white RCA connectors so our TV can output sound from all devices to headphones? I believe our TV is a magnavox e10839 and the only way for it to put out audio from all devices is that orange coaxial connector if i remember the manual correctly.

A:Orange coaxial audio to RCA red and white?

That is a digital audio output, I'm not sure that hooking headphones to it would work unless it also passes some type of analog stream.

My S10-3t (new almost exactly a year ago) is not booting. Please note that when I got it I upgraded the RAM to 2gb and the Hard Drive to a 500gb drive that has not failed me. I am using Linux, and threw out all the backup stuff, so that is not an option. The problem is that the battery indicator light is flashing orange and white at the same time (a mix of both colors), and it does this when the battery is in and out. The AC adapter works fine, since the netbook is getting power from it when the battery is out. If you need more info then tell me and I will provide it. TL;DR: The computer does not boot and my battery indicator light is flashing two colors at the same time, no matter if the battery is in or not. The problem is not with the AC adapter. EDIT: Update below.

A:S10-3t Battery light flashing White and Orange

Well, it was like this for a week. Now, after I got home from a movie, it was on (power light and battery indicator were solid white), but the screen was not on. So I took it partially apart (to the point I can access the connection between the sceen and MB), and tried again. It worked. I have no Idea what happend, but any suggestions would help future people with a similar problem.

Hello, the last weeks I am experiencing this problem.- The notebook turns on without any problems whether the battery is connected or not.- The battery seems to have a 2% charge (windows reports so)- If I remove the AC while battery is connected, computer looses power and turns off.- Last week Windows was reporting "not charging" while this week it reports as charging but the percentage is not increasing.- Whether the PC is on or off, the power LED shows up the same pattern. It is blinking orange and white non-stop.- Tried other solutions from this forum like removing battery and AC and pressing power button to drain all power, replugging the AC and battery, etc.- None of these solutions actually did not change anything.  HP G62-b95ev - Windows 7 x64

I have a probook that was upgraded to Windows 10 and has been working fine for a few weeks.  Today as we boot it goes right to an orange screen with white vertical lines.  I have run some system diagnostics (F2) and everything seems to pass and then looked at the BIOs (F10) and again it seems fine.  When I try to boot to safe mode (F8) it won't do anything - goes back to the orange screen.  I have limited knowledge and am trying what I have found on searching the internet.  Do I have any hope of fixing this or do I need to take it in?

My battery light is flashing four times orange then once white.  It's showing "54% available (plugged in, not charging)".  When I remove the power supply the light keeps flashing and the computer enters power save mode like normal.
I thought my issue was with the batter so I bought a new one.  I switched them out and the battery light stays solid white and shows "63% available (plugged in, charging), but I left it for four hours and didn't charge at all.  And on this battery whenever I remove the power supply the computer immediately dies.
What is my issue and how do I fix it?

Hi everyone, After looking through countless issues, I have hit a brick wall with this notebook. A friend gave me two of these notebooks about two years ago and my father stripped the one to get the other working. The stripped one then sat until yesterday without being powered on or anything like that. Me, deciding I need a laptop, try and get this thing running. Now I am a tech savvy person and I can strip and repair things in the dark and I thought this was going to be a simple procedure but man was I wrong. What I have tried:Starting the notebook with and without the battery.Tried the working battery from the other notebook.Completely stripped and checked all connections.Replaced CMOS battery.Removed faulty keyboard and tried starting it again.Removed HDD, WWAN and WLAN and again tried to start the notebook.Removed all RAM Modules as well as put it back in either socket.8-Step Procedure (Found here)  to clear Caps.Plugged AC into different socket.None of the above worked The Issue:Right now, after doing everything I could, I am sitting with a notebook that does not turn on in any way. Once plugged into AC (With or without battery), the Power LED blinks white and orange (Once) and then the Power Button begins to blink until it turns off and the Power LED does it's thing again.  I know that the board is obviously getting power because the Power LED is lighting up along with the Power Button LED. I replaced the CPU in my Inspiron 3847 and it won't start anymore. The fans start and the power light is white at first, but turns orange and blinks two time when I try to turn it on. The old CPU I had was i3-4150 and the new one is i7-4790. I've tried removing my EVGA 750 B1 PSU and replacing it with the standard PSU,  but it still won't start. hello all,
i have a problem with my XPS15 since receiving it. All is well, but sometimes the charging status LED is blinking with the following pattern:
3 orange, 5 white, 3 orange, 3 white
Does anyone knows what it means? I already had a technician who visited and replaced the motherboard and battery, but the problem is still here.
On top of that, my idle temp is not dropping under 45 celsius, and CPU under load goes over 90 celsius. I'm pretty sure that is not normal, and i believe the technician who replaced the motherboard did a poor job repasting the CPU and GPU with thermal compound.
Can you please share what are your temperatures for this model (9560 i7 7700HQ) ?

My never ending computing battle continues.

I have two computers networked. One win2k another winME.
I have a monitor+keyboard+mouse for both, shared thru a Belkin 2 port KVM. This setup has been working fine for about 3-4 months now.

Yesterday, on the win2k I had a game (GTAIII) running, while I worked on the winME box.

Now I seem to have no Green colours diisplayed. The pins on the monitor cable going into the Belkin KVM seem OK (none bent). There is no way of checking the other end (fixed into monitor).

Both machines have the same display problem.

I have taken the monitor cable out of the Belkin and attached it directly to the win2k and still have the same problem.

Has GTAIII caused this montor to have its colours reset? Has the green tube in my CRT monitor blown? How do I check/reset colour display?

Tried display properties->settings->advanced tab->then what???
Is there a colour palette admin dialog somewhere??

Thanks in advance.

Good Morning all,
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 (7559) Laptop.  When I went to go power on the laptop, the keyboard lights up, but nothing appears on screen.  I also noticed the "Battery Light" indicator on the laptop was flashing.  It would flash white four times and then flash orange two times.  In the beginning I thought my laptop had died so I went ahead and charged the laptop.  I was able to charge the laptop, so I'm thinking that the battery is still good.  I'm hoping someone out here on these forums can help me diagnose and resolve this issue before I contact tech support.  Any information you guys/gals can provide is greatly appreciated.

Remove or disconnect the battery.  With the system unplugged, hold the power button for 30 sec.
Try powering up on AC only - if it will but won't with the battery installed, the battery is bad.
If it still won't power up, the mainboard is bad.

I have never seen a screen like this in the 20 years I've had my own computer.

I had Windows 8 on a secondary drive as a dual boot with Windows 7 temporarily as I migrated to Windows 8. I somehow messed up either the boot loader or somehow corrupted the Win8 install for which I'll skip the details for now. But it was just as I was starting to decommission my Win7 install (I removed one drive from the 2-drive mirror running Win7 but figuring the single disk left would still run in a 'degraded' status. It ended up messing something up.).

I've been running bootrec /fixmbr, fixboot, scanos, and rebuildBCD from my Win8 USB stick and it says it completed but no luck on booting. I get either 0xc0000001 or 0xc000021a errors. Auto repair can't fix it.

I tried running this command, "bcdboot c:\windows /s c:", and got the screen shown in the attachment. White vertical lines on an orange background.

The only drives connected is the Win8 SSD sata drive and a DVD drive on IDE. I disconnected the DVD drive and the Win8 flash screen would appear with the circular dots but would freeze right there.

I don't have logs or screenshots to show but the single partition on the SSD is marked as active via diskpart (no system reserve partition), bcdedit shows c:\windows as the default location of the OS, diskpart shows the partition as c:, but the DVD drive is disk0, and the SSD is disk 1. Would that be a problem?

It is like it can't find the winload.exe file but I verified it exists... Read more

A:'White Vertical Lines on Orange Screen' Screen of Death

Have you tried putting the removed drive back in?

It looks like a video card problem (hardware) to me - but it shouldn't be that because you're able to use the USB Startup Repair functions (am I right in this assumption?). That means (to me) that it's likely to be a video driver problem (?).

Can you attempt to boot into Safe Mode? If so, what happens?
Does the screen problem show up after POST is completed? If so, at what point does it show up?

Sometimes when I plug in my laptop to the mains the charging light goes to orange to signify it's charging the battery. After a period of time it goes off, and starts flashing like this:
This is whilst it's turned off. When it's turned on the power button light starts flashing orange and a darker orange.

It seems to happen sporadically. One day it'll be fine, the next it won't.
I've put a voltmeter on the charger plug and that reads 18.5volt whilst plugged to the mains. When I plug the charger in and place the voltmeter on the negative and ground connectors for the battery it reads 0.8volts.
The battery works, I've recently replaced it because the old one died. I've also checked that when fully charged with the voltmeter and that works as specified in the user manual (found at http://www.2shared.com/file/3900367/f777f80e/SG_AS7720_7720G_BOOK.html?s=1)
Whilst it is like this the battery does not charge and the computer runs as if it were on battery power, not plugged in, whilst the lights flash. When I remove the plug it stops flashing and the left light shows a solid green, as does the power button light.

Does anyone know what these lights are supposed to indicate? It makes no mention of it in the guide.
Thank you for your time,

P.S. the missing key still works, it's just missing. I've not gotten round to get a replacem... Read more

Hi guys:

My system is a custom build I completed about 3 months ago, initially I had OS reinstall/driver/ & minor stability problems using UEFI which was solved in another board on this forum by changing to MBR config – my system specs are listed.

Also to optimise OS functionality I implemented the following but will roll back if found to be thecause of the error:Turned off the Hibernation File to save disk space [OS mounted on SSD]
Shrunk System Protection to 3.4GB again to save space
Turned off Indexing to SSD only – since it has 4k read capability
Shrunk Page file to 1024MB on SSD
Set Power Option to high performance
Unchecked Defrag for the SSD & its partitions
Disabled GUI at boot
The LCD monitor is connected by the shipped VGA cable with a DVI male connector to the GPU’s DVI out putsocket – I’ve yet to purchase an HDMI cable, hopefully this might be the bottleneck & easily solvable.
btw: I’m not sure if the current problem is related to the previous OS reinstallation issues, anyways I first noticed this problem 3 weeks ago while using a free word processing application “Abiword”, when I was cut n pasting screenshots to a document the screen suddenly went white & having to restart by using the reset PC case button.

I primarily use 3D graphic programs such as Blender, Gimp & a game engine for 3D mobile game development, its not really a persistent regular problem in fact I could l... Read more

A:PC Monitor: Random white & blue green screen displays?

Hi devhead
Welcome to the forums. I think you are running out of memory. Why don't you set Windows to manage the Page / Swapfile on your SSD? I have 16gb of ram and have a 16GB page file on my two main systems. I can run out of memory if I run too many virtual machines and the PC starts writing to hard drives. The fact your machine goes to a white screen and locks up when you are pasting files into documents I think indicates the limited virtual memory is stalling the system. A page file on an SSD would be good use of the drive.

So perhaps there is a warranty. Anything you do voids the warranty.
Beyond that, you have not offered the brand, model, and configuration, so the help we can offer is limited.

Hi, I'm new to the forums so I'm not sure if this is in the right section but on my old Dell Inspiron 8600 the battey led light keeps flashing orange 4 times followed by a green light. I've read that this is caused by a faulty battery cell. However, since this model is so old it would be a waste of money to buy a new battery. Is there a way to fix it so that this doesn't happen without buying a new battery or taking the battery out of the laptop? Is there a registry fix or what not that will sort out this problem or will I have to shove my battery in the fridge (an answer to someone else's post on another forum)? Thanks

I just purchased a used comp off ebay (probably a bad mistake) that was suppose to boot to c:. This is a AMD 1800 XP, 128 MB RADEON video card, 60 gig hardrive, CDRW, 52X CD. When I try to boot the computer the monitor light immediately goes from green to orange. The monitor works fine on my other computers. I also noticed that the video card was loose when I first got it out of the box, i secured it but then found out the problem. I have also used a video card out of another one of my comps, nVidia 32MB, and still got the same results. I can usually figure stuff like this out, but this MB is extremely complicated, and the power supply has more wires and cables than I have ever seen. I thought maybe the hardrive wasnt spinning and tried another one and still had the same result. My video card and processor fans are all running so there seems to be power. The CD drives have power. I also noticed that there is a light on the front of my case, dont know what it is, but it also turns orange. Any suggestions.

So a month ago I bought my first PC and since day 1 I have been getting a bunch of random BSOD errors (and some orange SODs as well). I am using an ASUS Zenbook UX303UB, and these are some of the errors I've gotten:

BAD_POOL_HEADER ---- (this was orange SOD)
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION ---- (has happened in blue and also orange)

I've run the windows memory diagnostic and the SFC scans both of which showed no problems. I just now ran the driver verifier and the PC immediately crashed with DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION upon restart and kept failing. The computer ran a diagnostic on itself, said windows 10 could not be run and the computer went back to a restore point.

Here is the file as requested in the posting guidelines. The bottom minidump file should be the one caused by the driver verifier DESKTOP-C62MFAD-Thu_06_02_2016__01930_98.zip

Many thanks to whoever can help me figure this out!

I have a Dell XPS 8700. I have been having problems with a blue or orange screen with white or dark vertical Lines popping up at different times.  When this comes up you cannot do anything; you have to reboot. All drivers have been updated to my computer.  When it starts, the monitor will flicker (sometimes) and the screen turns into vertical lines (cannot see your desktop).  I have contacted Microsoft and went through a long procedure to see what could be causing this. It is not the Microsoft Operation System 10 that is the problem; they stated it could be in BIOS.  Is anyone else having the same problem? This is annoying.  Does anyone know who to fix this?  There is a youtube video about this.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKRsS5R3fkk. I do not know anything about Bit Locker or how it works. Thanks

I first logged out of my computer and came back and I noticed an orange light on the power button. I shut it of and turn it back on about two times with the same results of an orange light. I then shut of the the extension that houses 10 plugs. When I turned on the extension I turned on the computer the power button didn't give off a blue light or orange light. The VGA cable, mouse, keyboard, Ethernet cable are all plugged in. I later removed all the connects to the computer gave it a minute and plugged it all back in. There is a solid green light on the back under the power cable. The fans turn on there is noise coming from inside the computer a soft humming and light fan from the back of the computer. But the power button will not turn on. The monitor light is orange and says "No Input signal Input 2,Go to Power Save." When I switch to input 1 it reads "Cable Disconnected Go to Power Save." What internal issue could this be?

Wireless not working on my dv6000 laptop. (RP963EA#ABB) - a dv6103eu. Like many of the frustrated customers, one day that light on the wireless signal readout simple went orage no matter where to toggle it. I updated all Microsoft updates and every single driver update on the HP site for my exact model, dv6103eu. I even updated the BIOS to F.3D (11/22/2007) which is the latest on the HP site for this model. Nothing worked. I completely restored the machine to factory defaults thinking that perhaps it was a driver issue. To my complete surprise, the light is still ORANGE! I resetted the wireless card and reinstalled. Nothing. I took my wireless card to another dv6000 laptop and it requested for drivers to work so the wireless card works. What can HP for me? I am like most HP customers frustrated at this issue especially when most of the threads on this forum seem to go unanswered. PLEASE HELP!

HP is in denial. After a month of messing around with mine, I spent $150 to have it diagnosed. They wanted to replace the mother board for around $400. But they were kind enough to tell me that I could get wifi with a $20 USB wifi. My machine was 3 weeks out of warranty. Within the next 2 months my other 3 laptops had the same issue. Also out of warranty... HP was virtually useless. They said that nobody else had those problems... 3 of 3??? I smell a recall...

Hi I've had the Dell XPS 8700 for over a year now and it's an excellent Desktop.
I've recently moved my tower to a new location and notice there is a solid orange light on all the time inside the PC, I believe it's on the motherboard... should I be worried this is on all the time? It's just I've never noticed it before.
Also on the back of the PC there is a solid green light, I'm guessing this is to just tell me the PC has Power.
I tried a google search but everyone with the orange light seems to have PC issues, my pc is working fine as far as I can tell.

LED on the motherboard will be on as long as the PC is plugged into a working outlet. It's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.
If you unplug the PC from the wall and press/hold the power button for ~15 sec, that LED will go off. Again, perfectly normal...
Green LED says there's power to the PSU.

My sister has a Dell Dimension 5100 w/XP Prof., 1MB Ram, Pent 4 @ 3.2 ghz. All of a sudden it won't boot. When you plug in the power, the power switch led blinks orange in unison with the h/d green led.
This is what I have tried:
I pulled the power supply 24p connector and shorted the black wire to the green wire and the fan then came on..so I figure p/s is ok?????
I then removed the modem card and the video card as well as the memory and all drive connectors. Still same response. What do I need to check? Motherboard bad??Thanks

what may be the problem

1) is it lack of power from psu or faulty graphics card or faulty monitor cable or problem with monitor itself

note:i have updated latest graphics driver

any help will be highly appreciated!!!

A:monitor goes white/green sometimes

When it goes white, does it stay that way? If so, while it is white, see if you can pull up the monitors menu. If you can, and it looks ok, then the monitor is ok. How are you hooked to the monitor? If using HDMI, check the DVI or VGA connections, or visa versa. If the same on all, and the monitor has been ruled out, it's likely your video card. Monitor the temps while it is working hard, and see if it is overheating. if you have a spare card, use that as a test. A Guy
