Q: chromium

I got hacked by Esurf.biz and have deleted all of there viruses except chromium and when I click uninstall it will say to make changes to the computer, what should I do thanks.

Preferred Solution: chromium

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: chromium

I read earlier about eFast using Chromium to build a fake Chrome browser. This may be part of that.
MBAM detects it....it was an MBAM article that I was reading.
Try using Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware in Advanced Mode to uninstall Chromium.
Use CCleaner to remove Temporary files, program caches, cookies, logs, etc. Use the Default settings. No need to use the
Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Pay close attention while installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars....especially Google.
After install, open CCleaner and run by clicking on the Run Cleaner button in the bottom right corner.
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here
Double-click mbam-setup-2.X.X.XXXX.exe to install the application (X's are the current version number).
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
Once MBAM opens, when it says Your databases are out of date, click the Fix Now button.
Click the Settings tab at the top, and then in the left column, select Detections and Protections, and if not already checked place a checkmark in the selection box for Scan for rootkits.
Click the Scan tab at the top of the program window, select Threat Scan and click the Scan Now button.
If you receive a message that updates are available, click the Update Now button (the update will be downloaded, installed, and the scan will start).
When MBAM is finished scanning it will display a screen that displays any malware that it has detected.
Click the Remove Selected button.
MBAM will now delete all of the files and registry keys and add them to the programs quarantine. When removing the files, MBAM may require a reboot in order to remove some of them. If it displays a message stating that it needs to reboot, please allow it to do so.
While still on the Scan tab, click the link for View detailed log, and in the window that opens click the Export button, select Text file (*.txt), and save the log to your Desktop.
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can also be viewed by clicking the History tab and then selecting Application Logs.
Download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Scan button.
When the scan has finished click on Clean button.
Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message

Hold down Control and click on this link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
Click the button.
For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
Double click on the icon on your desktop.
Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
Click the Start button.
Accept any security warnings from your browser.
Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats"
ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
When the scan completes, click List Threats
Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
Click the Back button.
Click the Finish button.
NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.

Hello everyone,
I've tried removing Chromium from my pc,using add/remove programs. But when I click on remvoe, the hourglas stays on briefly, then after nothing happens. I then chose to delete it manually, successfully, but not completely. Because on startup, chromium comes on. I've looked in Local C: under Documents and Settings--->Start Menu--->startup for both all users and Home,Chromium isn't there. I've even look under regedit, not even there. And yet,it's still in add/remove programs.
Your advice most appreciated

A:Chromium and XP with SP3

By Chromium you mean Google Chrome? Maybe that's why you can't find it in the Registry?
You should not remove a program by manually deleting it, you need to use it's uninstaller. Try using the free Revo Uninstaller, be sure to use the Advanced method to remove all remnants from the Registry.

Hello, from a first-time poster.

A member of my family whom I will leave unnamed recently updated a program on his laptop, and when he did so a bunch of other programs installed onto the machine as well. After this update, said family member let me know that something was popping up saying he had such-and-such number of viruses on the computer. I knew this itself may be a virus, so I checked the installed programs and found five additional applications he did not intend to install. I used the Uninstall Program window to get rid of all those things, but upon reboot Chromium still starts up (I should have made a list of the names of the other ones before I tried to uninstall). It is no longer showing up on the Uninstall Programs menu, but it is still on the start menu. I have tried Malwarebytes and Malwarebytes Rootkit, but to no avail. Then I found this forum. I am attaching the FRST files that your instructions as for. I hope you can help us fix this laptop. Thanks in advance.

In an attempt to get rid of Chromium in a Laptop Windows 10, I got a virus that referenced a BSOD error number, which I don't have right now, but it put about 12 entries of Chromium 32 in the Task Manager listings. After searching the web with my computer I found out how to get rid of the virus warning and all is fine for now. So now I am still stuck trying to figure out a way to delete this Chromium program. It seems to always come on after Windows boots up. Cannot find where the main file or execute file is located in the file system. Any comments or help will be appreciated.
Note: Chromium is not listed in the files that are installed so you cannot use an uninstaller to delete it.

At my last check Chromium had to be compiled from source for Windows with the instructions specifically using Visual Studio to do so. I was wondering if anyone here has done so, and if so what the results were like? I really like Google Chrome but I had a discussion about SE Linux alerts and Google Chrome the other day. It mainly was about Chrome's constant contact with the mothership, and how that surprisingly it is not prompting more of these SE Linux alerts. That has got me thinking about using Chromium instead. I am assuming Chromium's OSS nature probably lends superior respect for privacy versus Chrome. Any info on compiling Chromium for Windows or thoughts about privacy issues concerning the use of either would be greatly appreciated. However, please do not post about alternatives such as SRWare's Iron here. I am fully aware of those alternatives and I am not interested in them.

I'm running a chromium 21.x snap shot. Every time I try to update to one of the new 22.x snap shots, I lose all favicons. Seems to be a recurring problem with chrome browser. The snap shots have been 22.x for awhile now. I'm surprised nobody has picked up on this issue.

Even running Bookmark Sentry to manually load all my bookmarks to check they exist does not refresh the favicons. While the extension is running I can see favicons showing up in the bookmarks. But as soon as I close the browser and open it again, they are all gone.

Really weird.

I did notice a mention of a chrome extension named Bookmarks Favicon Fixer. But all searches end up pointing to dead links.

edit: I filed it as an issue on chromium bug tracker. See what happens.

A:chromium 22.x no favicons

What'd you expect? It's obviously a beta/alpha build, which means that every build might also have a regression over the previous. You might want to make things easy on you by just going for stability and leaving the newest test builds alone.

It's also very likely that this doesn't occur on every system running that 22.x build. You did the right thing by filing a bug report. The next build might not contain this bug, thanks to you!

Yes, I still use IE9 -- as well as Firefox (please note: the following issues does not happen with Firefox) -- but over the last 1yr, everytime I try and go to another URL with IE9, I get a popup telling me the page is busy or some such thing, and I just reinstalled Win7 yesterday as I haven't done that since I first bought it late last year, and it's happening on a clean install as well.

So, I am not sure what is causing the above problem, even on a clean install.

I'm sorry if I've posted this in the wrong area, or if it's a duplicate.
I have a Dell Inspiron 14z-5423 Laptop. Service Tag is <Deleted due to privacy policy>. It has the Windows 8 sticker on the back, but the Dell site has Windows 10 Home listed as the OS.
I bought this used, and the previous owner installed CloudReady + Chromium OS.
He no longer knows his CloudReady credentials, and he doesn't have the original product key because the Windows was an OEM install.
CloudReady won't allow me to factory reset it, and I don't know if that would help anyway.
I need Windows. I'm also beyond financially challenged, so the cheapest way possible is what I need. But I also can't screw up this machine, because I can't afford another one.
So...can someone tell me what my options are? I don't know what OS this laptop can run. Can it do Win 7? Should I buy Win 8? Can I install a new OS from a usb stick?
I know just enough about computers to be dangerous, but definitely not enough about this. I would so greatly appreciate any help I can get. Neverware, the company behind CloudReady isn't interested  in helping me, and I'm just really hoping someone here IS.

A:Help to get rid of CloudReady+Chromium, and get Windows OS.

Hi,Welcome to our community. Since the previous owner had installed Chromium OS and also had created credentials for cloud and if you do not want to use the same, you might have to reinstall the Operating system after wiping out the existing one.If you have a Windows 7 retail copy and the product key, you may go ahead and install the OS. If you have Windows 8 media, you can go ahead and install the OS and the product key is embedded in the Motherboard. If you don’t have either of the above mentioned options. You may consider contacting the Out of Warranty team and purchasing an OS media. You can contact them at 1800-288-4410. Please write to us if you face any concerns.

My apologies in advance if this is in the wrong forum; but due to potential severity of the issue, I couldn't take any chances in waiting too long. My friend's laptop which I'm not in the possession of, may be infected with a type of malware hiding behind the name "Chromium". I know that a legitimate Chromium open source browser does exist & in itself is harmless. However I'm not sure how I could help my friend determine whether or not their copy is real or the malware variant. To my knowledge they did not willingly download it or anything at all recently prior to it's icon popping up on their desktop. When they try to uninstall it via Programs & Features they're greeted with the message "An unknown user wants to make changes to this computer, Yes or No" & that the publisher of the software is Unknown. I told them to exit out of that & download Malwarebytes then perform it's threat scan. Which found, quarantined & deleted 728 PUPs & 1 PUM, at the moment they're running the Threat Scan again just to be safe.
1: What else can I recommend that they do besides making a Bleeping Computer account & asking here them-self?
2: How could I help them determine whether or not the Chromium that mysteriously appeared on their desktop to be legitimate or not?

Welcome to Seven Forums BistroRacing. That link is specific to disabling tooltips only in Chromes Developer Tools. In fact, they have been saying this for years. If Chrome wanted to do this, they surely know many people complain about it. Following on from this ordeal, Opera v16 (and I assume other Chromium-based browsers) allows the storage of AutoComplete form data. One of these features is the storage of credit card info.

While only the last four digits are visible when initially in the Settings menu, a simple click of the Edit button allows anyone to see the credit card number, name, expiry date - all in plaintext.

Changelog can be found here, which says:

Opera 16 allows you to securely store your addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and credit cards for use online.Click to expand...

Users beware. I suggest turning off the option of "Enable auto-filling of forms on webpages", which is turned on by default.

A:Chromium autofill in plaintext

I suppose they'll fix it sometime and I'd add that it's about time they did, since it's been so for a month.

Till they do, thanks for the warning.

As for Opera, I hope they have second thoughts about abandoning their own engine in favor of chromium. Whatever problems they hoped to solve by doing so, the adage that comes to mind is:

"The main cause of problems is solutions".

I am using Windows XP, and I will try to supply you whatever info you need.
ALL CHROMIUM BROWSERS like Google Chrome, Torch, and a not-so-famous Cowoon Browser(but still based on chromium)
