Dell Latitude E6520 & E-Port Plus 2 - Display port issue

Q: Dell Latitude E6520 & E-Port Plus 2 - Display port issue

As mentioned in the title I have both pieces of hardware. I also just purchased a third Dell U2414H LCD monitor. I am trying to connect all 3 via display port. However it seems that all I can do is 2 monitors? When I try to daisychain them I got 2 monitors mirroring each other and one through HDMI off the laptop.

Is this a physical limitation of the replicator? Is there a firmware update somewhere?

Preferred Solution: Dell Latitude E6520 & E-Port Plus 2 - Display port issue

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Dell Latitude E6520 & E-Port Plus 2 - Display port issue

The E6520 comes with Intel HD Graphics 3000. The specs for that GPU are buried in the specs for the CPU itself, but if you go to ark.intel.com and look up your CPU, then scroll down to the graphics section and verify that it shows Intel HD Graphics 3000, you'll find that that GPU only supports 2 independent displays, which is why you see mirroring. More recent Intel GPUs do indeed support 3 displays, but no Intel GPUs to my knowledge yet support 4.
If your E6520 has the NVIDIA discrete GPU, I can't find any information on NVIDIA's site about maximum number of supported displays, but based on your experience I would assume it's 2 unless indicated otherwise.

I have a Dell Latitude E7440, Windows 7
The HDMI-port has been working fine for two years attaching to varius units - projectors, TV etc.Last year it stopped to work with one projector (where it uasually works) so I just used the docking station and an VGA cable instead - did not have time to look for what went wrong. After that, a few months later, the next device stopped to acknowlagde the HDMI signal, now it was my standard Samsung LED-TV. OK, so I guessed that the HDMI-cabel was the problem, but after testing several HDMI cables with no luck, I rather thought that the problem was a physical problemen in the HDMI port at the back of the laptop. To shame, hard to fix that. I now realized that there actually where another digital port on back sida of the laptop, the mini displayport -maybe that one is working? So I bought a converter "mini display port to HDMI" - and whooho - it worked. But just for a few days.. :-(
Now I am back to use the docking station and VGA and as you can understand - that is really anoying.I have been using laptops for + 20 years now so I do think I have some experience. It is not an "Fn + F8" problem or a cable problem. Any suggestions?

Here is my situation,
I own a Lattitude E7450, and needed to connected two displays to it. I went ahead and bought the Dell E-Port Plus Advanced Port Replicator with USB 3.0, since it has 2 DVI ports on the back. It shows it is compatible with my laptop.
I set up my dock, connected my laptop, as well as both external monitors. Only one monitor shows a duplicated desktop. When I go into the display settings, I cannot see any existence of another external display being connected.
All of my drivers are up to date, restarted laptop many times. Pretty bummed out.
Anyone have any solution/knowledge to this?

Hi all,

Over in notebook review (http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-latitude-vostro-precision/565905-e6520-owners-thread-14.html#post7512511) we have been exhaustively trying to determine if the "FLASH SATA" port marked on the E6520 motherboard can use an mSATA drive, PCIE SATA drive, etc....

So far, nothing.  So, I am turning to the Dell community in the hopes we can find someone who knows about this slot and its functionality.

The question is simple - as stated above - what types of drives can be plugged into this slot?  Is the interface wired for mSATA, PCIE, or what?

It would be great to have a ~32GB boot drive in this slot, with the primary HD slot reserved for a large mechanical "storage" drive.

I eagerly await any useful information on this topic...

A:USB port broken on Dell latitude c600

That's a concern !

As you may realize the USB port is (or was) soldered directly into the motherboard
Therefore if it has broken off, then basically you have m/b damage

Here's an option
PS2 Keyboard
Serial Mouse (for external)

Not sure if the docking port would work, but I'd do it ! you'll get USB back

Hello, everyone.
I am using a Latitude 3540 laptop with switchable graphics (Intel HD Graphics, AMD Radeon HD 8850M). As soon as I got the laptop, I upgraded to 8.1 (probably a mistake!).
All of my drivers are up to date according to Device Manager, and I've updated the chipset and BIOS and everything according to the Dell website. But for as long as I've had this laptop, the VGA port will not work! I'm using a VGA cord that has worked with other laptops before without issue. The laptop will not output to projector, external monitor, or a TV. Pressing the win-P combination brings up the ability to extend and duplicate my screen. When I change those settings, my screen resolution will change, but the external monitor/projector doesn't display anything. When I try to detect displays in my graphics properties, it just doesn't detect anything that's connected.
Is my VGA port faulty? Or does anyone have any suggestions on what else to try at this point? My laptop is still under warranty, so I suppose I could always send it in to be fixed.
Thanks for the help!

I have a Dell Latitude e6440 (Intel+AMD video) with the newest BIOS A18 and the newest video drivers.  It is connected to an ePort Replicator 0PKDGR.   I have a Displayport cable connected between the ePort and an ACER 43" 4k UltraHD monitor at 3840x2160.
When I resume the Laptop from sleep/standby/hibernate, the screen flashes bars and sometimes completely turns off for a few seconds.
If I reboot, then everything is fine.
I've tried:

Making sure the bios and drivers are all up to date.
I had an unrelated issue about 2 months ago, and my motherboard and cooling fan were replaced.  So I'm assuming the motherboard is newer/better if there was ever a fix for this issue, but not entirely sure.   Since the Intel/AMD graphics are on the motherboard.  They were replaced.  The issues remained before and after.
Tried turning off hibernate.  Using only regular standby.  Issue persists.
Tried turning off standby and only using Hibernate.  Same issue
It seems to happen more when the system is being used more.  Cooling fan runs more often.
Tried a different Displayport cable
Tried a different displayport connection on the EPort, DP1 vs DP2

Might be a coincidence, but I was just trying something and switched my monitor from Displayport 1.2 to 1.1.  The resolution of the display went down to 2k.   Then I switch back to DP 1.2 and the issue seems to have gone away.   I'm going... Read more

I use Windows 10 Pro 64 bits (1703).The BIOS is up to date : version A20 (05/08/2017).
When I plug ou unplug a device on the USB 3.0 ports (right or left port), the System process goes up to ~15% CPU usage. I have to sleep/resume or reboot to have a normal CPU usage. The CPU usage is taken by the ACPI.sys (found with Windows Performance Recorder).
This problem does not happen with USB 2.0 (rear port) or E-SATA port on right.

can anybody tell me if my e6520 would downgrade and run 2x4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 SODIMM RAM on 1333 MHz?
Best regards,

A:Dell Latitude e6520 RAM upgrade

Below are the system memory specs for the Latitude E6520.

Memory Module Connector
2 DIMM slots
Memory Module Capacity
1GB, 2GB, 4GB
Memory Type
DDR3 133 MHz
Min to Max Memory
2GB to 8GB*

NOTE: The computer supports a maximum of 8GB* of memory when installed with two 4GB DIMMs; however, a 32-bit operating systems, such as the 32-bit version of Microsoft® Windows® XP, can only use a maximum of 4GB of address space. Moreover, certain components within the computer require address space in the 4GB range. Any address space reserved for these components cannot be used by computer memory; therefore, the amount of memory available to a 32-bit operating system is less than 4GB. Greater than 4GB memory requires 64-bit operating systems.

Anyone have a general sense of life expectancy for Dell Latitude E6520? I use the laptop for business - I do not travel often so the laptop is usually docked. I purchased the laptop in December 2011 - it is now 4 years and 3 months old.

Thanks in advance for your help!

A:Life Expectancy Dell Latitude E6520

Are you on it daily? Do you use it constantly? I don't think there's an exact rule of thumb, but I don't keep computers for more than 4 years. I always replace them after 4 years. But that's just me, I know some people keep them 6 or 7 years with no issues. I just like new tech. If it works for what you do, then keep it. If it no longer does what you need, or if it's slowed down a bit, maybe time to upgrade it(add and SSD and possibly memory if you can), or get rid of it.

Hello there,

After trying to install the correct drivers, I seem to have triggered an infinite loop of Startup Repair, and Windows won't even start up. Can anyone point me to which drivers I need upon a clean install? Below is the link to Dell's drivers for my laptops, but I just want to confirm which exact ones I need for my laptop, since there are so many versions:

I have a Dell Latitude E7450 laptop with a E-Port Plus II port replicator connected to two external monitors using DisplayPort which will not output to multiple monitors.
I have another Dell model and when placed on the port replicator with two external monitors connected, booting into BIOS/UEFI the screen is cloned onto each monitor. However, when doing the same with a brand new Dell Latitude E7450 only one screen is active - the other is off. Within Windows itself, I can only have 1 monitor connected to the port replicator. If I undock, I can run 3 monitors independently indicating an issue with the dock rather than a hardware limitation with the laptop itself.
I believe the above tests eliminates the OS or driver issue and highlights a compatibility issue between the new Dell Latitude E7450 laptop and E-Port Plus II port replicator. I have tried this on 2 separate machines with the same results. I have also updated both the graphics drivers (Version, A16) and the BIOS (Version A04) to the latest releases. I have also tried using DVI cables as well as swapping out the port replicators. Nothing works. In Windows 8.1 itself, it actually shows as two monitors active, but one is not on. If I swap out the monitors to a different brand, I get the same result.
Is there a BIOS/UEFI setting I need to change? Is there a newer port replicator or update I need?

Did you resolve this issue and, if so, how? I have the same laptop (but running Windows 10) and the same docking station with the same results.

I have 3 monitors connected to an AMD HD5770 graphics card. Two monitors connect via HDMI, and the third through a Sapphire Active DisplayPort->DVI adaptor. Things have been working fine for years, but recently I started sleeping my computer when I am not using it during the day, as opposed to my previous habit of leaving it on all day and then shutting down at night, and a couple of days after starting this new habit, I received a 'Display Port Link Failure' message:

"The system has detected a link failure and cannot set the requested resolution and refresh rate on your DisplayPort display. Your display might not support the requested resolution or there may be an issue with the cable connecting the display to your computer"

Now, even upon resuming my normal habit of leaving the computer on and shutting down, the monitor will work sometimes but randomly stop other times.

How can I either fix the issues with sleep, which I would prefer since I want to save energy (a money issue rather than believing my actions make any difference to the environment), or if there is a problem somewhere, determine if it is the graphics card or the adaptor that needs replacing.?

A:Display Port Link Failure, Active Display Port->DVI

It could be the hardware is starting to give out. Not all problems are software related. Going to be hard to nail down if you don't have another cable. Could be the cable or the port.

Any way to test with a straight cable, not the adapter cable?

I'm using a Dell U3415W monitor. My video card is AMD Radeon RX480. The monitor is connected via DisplayPort to my computer. The monitor is connected via HDMI to my work laptop. When I want to switch over to HDMI, it acts as if I shut off the monitor on the Displayport shifting everything over to my secondary monitor. It causes no problem, but drives me nuts because when I switch back over to DIsplayPort, I have to move my open programs around again. Is there any simple way to make this stop? If I don't use DisplayPort, and instead use HDMI/DVI combination, the behavior described does not happen. I'm guessing that is just the way it is, but I'm hoping there is an easy way to make it stop.

I have trouble as described in the topic,
I have two most old laptop models, Dell Precision M6300 & Dell Latitude D630.
When laptops is docked to replicator potr dock stations D/APR (PR01X) or D/DOCK (PD01X) - bigger one model with DVD port,

headphone jack port not working under Windows 10 Pro x64 installed on both laptops.

On M6300 previously was installed Windows 7 Ultimate and on D630 was Windows 8.1.
On Dell  M6300 on Win 7 Ult. headphone jack port worked properly.
On Dell D630 on Win 8.1 I'm not sure due I do not used this on it (more years ago when it was on Win XP headphone jack port worked properly)
So when Ms start delivering updates do Win 10, I did it on doth laptops, everything on both models working fine, but only this headphone jack port in D/APR (PR01X) or D/DOCK (PD01X) wouldn't like to work when I'm dockind Dell M6300 (D630 I docked only
for test if on this one jack port will work or not) but not working too like on M6300.
So loks like drivers whih was made oryginally for Win Vista x64 ale which was workable for Windows 7 64b wouldn't like to work on Windows 10.

I have a number of Latitude E6520 computers that are all exhibiting the same performance problems.
While using the computer normally, users complain of very slow performance and applications reporting that they are not responding. On visiting a computer which has the problem, the following very specific symptoms are found:

The computer works normally for a short time, then suddenly stops responding to user input.
During this lagging behavior, the computer does not respond to user input, but some screen updates do continue. More specifically...

Mouse cursor can be moved around the screen
Hourglass cursor may or may not appear
Clicking the mouse on an on-screen button has no effect, not even visually (The animation of the button being depressed does not occur.)
Typing or pressing keys pressed on the keyboard have no effect
Hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del does bring up the lock menu, however it does so much more slowly than normal
If the freeze lasts long enough, an "Application is not responding" message may appear for the active application
After a few seconds, the computer resumes working normally again. At that time, typed characters may suddenly appear in a document, or mouse clicks made during the lag might suddenly take effect.
Once the problem begins happening, it grows worse. The delays tend to grow longer, and the time between them grows shorter, until it becomes impossible to get any productive work done.
Rebooting the computer always resolves the problem, but o... Read more

Only because sometimes problems of this nature arise from the simplest little things I ask:

What does your Windows Update scheme look like
Have you downloaded ALL available updates
are you scheduled to receive recommended updates the same way you receive critical updates
Have you made the jump to Microsoft Update (the option on the windows update page below the progress bar)

Once you install Microsoft Update it behaves the same way as Windows Update except that it's more thorough and covers some important hardware issues.  Frequently this  step will iron out some of the most obscure and difficult problems.

I use a XPS 9350 for about a year now. Its a certified refurbished with core i7, 16 GB and 512GB SSD.
I had an issue with usb C adapter tha has a lan port, HDMI port and usb 3 port. When I detach and reattach the adapter with laptop power on I almost always loose the external monitor (extended desktop mode) display. Display properties showed that cant detect the external display. the external monitor also goes to idle state. I need to turn off / restart laptop several times to get the external display on, sometimes for a whole day it did not come back at all.
I found a work around, when this happens go to display properties and change the "Extended desktop mode" to "Duplicate the display" mode and the apply, the other monitors get back to normal. you can reapply the Extended mode afterwards and it works fine.
I use kwmobile usb c hub.
I hope this post also help someone else. It s pity that a fine laptop has so much issues still to be addressed. (Auto wake up is killing me!!)

So this is the first time this sort of thing has ever happened. When I turned on my PC today only one monitor was picking up signal. In attempt to fix this I switched the display ports from the working monitor to the non working monitor. Nothing happened so I moved the cables back, when I did that the other monitor no longer received signal. I then plugged in a hdmi cable to my monitor and still no signal. I then unplugged the power to the PC and held the on/off button for 60 seconds and re plugged the power. The monitor began receiving signal but only through hdmi and the other monitor still does not work.

I wanted to watch a movie from my laptop on my TV So I plugged the HDMI cord in from the laptop to the TV and it adjusted the resolution and the brightness of my laptop. (On a separate note, I couldn't get the sound to work on the TV either) So, once I got done I un plugged my laptop and it adjusted my resolution but my brightness didn't change back. I have tried to adjust both software brightness and hardware brightness. The software actually does change but not enough to matter and the hardware adjustment does nothing, up or down. HELP PLEASE!

I have a newly imaged Elitedesk 800 Mini 35W G3 desktop with 3 HP Brand display port to DVI adapters attached to 3 viewsonic LCD's and after getting everything hooked up, I was only getting video on 2 of the three displays. I went into the Intel Graphics Properties,  then Display, then Multiple displays, then toggled it to Collage, all 3 screens went blank, then it popped back up with Extended Desktop selected, but then a picture on all 3 screens! I thought my problem was solved however after I reboot, the setting reverts and even though it shows its under "Extended Desktop" still, only 2 of the 3 displays are showing a picture until I toggle back to Collage, then have it refresh and jump back to Extended Desktop. I am using a fully updated copy of Windows 7 Enterprise and have installed the latest version of the Intel 530 video chipset driver from HP for this specific model of computer. Please let me know if anyone knows how to solve this issue permanently. Thanks!

I have had several issues when I used my XPS 13 and output video using the display port.
1. When I used a DP to VGA converter, video cuts off after a while, and will not resume.
2. When I used a DP to HDMI converter, audio from the HDMI would cut off every ~10 minutes. Unplugging and plugging the DP, or changing the project method from windows will temporarily fix the issue, but same issue would occur repeatedly.
The above issues seemed like the laptop cuts certain signal off after laptop not being actively used (playing videos). When I have constant mouse activity, then the above issues does not show, although screen would occasionally flicker (as  if laptop was trying to re-adjust resolution or something).

I wonder if anyone can give me some advise on possible causes? The most horrible part of these issues is that the first issue happened during my own wedding when I had my XPS13 played our wedding video.

Hi All/Dell,
The HDMI output or the display port converted to HDMI does not drive my 2560x1600 DVI/HDMI external monitor.
What is the max resolution that can be driven by the HDMI and display port?
If I get a new display port external monitor, I want to make sure the display port output from the laptop can drive it.
I looked all over the User Manual, spec sheet, etc and could not find this information.

A:DELL XPS 15 9530 - Max HDMI/Display-Port Resolutions

Hey Carlton,
Thanks for the post! The specifications will differ depending on the GPU used in version of the system you’ve purchased.
For options purchased with the Discrete NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M 2GB GDDR5 card see:www.geforce.com/.../specificationsFor Intel® HD Graphics 4600 only systems see:software.intel.com/.../quick-reference-guide-to-intel-processor-graphics
Other factors that may have an effect include the method you are using to display video on the external monitor, clone / extend, the cable being used, the video drivers installed and the settings capabilities of the monitor that you’re using.

I found some contradictory posts where one dell representative  said that the XPS laptop could only output to 1080p while  a different dell representative said that it could support up to 2560x1600, not sure if models differ on those posts though. Intel HD 4400 claims that with a 4rth generation U series processor can support resolutions up to 3840x2160 at 30Hz with Display Port 1.2.
What is the maximum supported resolution via mini Display Port for Dell XPS 9333 (i7 4510U, Intel HD 4400)?
Can a docking station like D3100 support higher resolutions like 4k on this model?

Any information would be very helpful, thank you!

I'm wondering if someone possibly help as I'm not sure where to go next.

I have a Dell U2311H monitor connected to a XFX Radeon 6850 via its DisplayPort and I'm having problems with random flickering where the monitor picture goes black for a few seconds.

I have another monitor, an old HP, connected via DVI and a 1080p Sony LCD TV connected via HDMI.

I have had the Dell and HP monitors connected via DVI for months without any problems but I wanted to extend my Win 7 desktop to all 3 displays and I believe you can't do that using DVI, DVI and HDMI, hence why I want to use the display port.

I have tried 2 different displayport cables, so I don't think it is that. I don't have another gfx card or monitor to try to eliminate from the process.

One thing I did notice is that if I change the resolution from 1080p to 720p it seems to fix the problem. I'm wondering if it could be something to do with the displays running at different resolutions? Although I did try both the TV and Dell running at 1080p but there was still a problem.

Any suggestions greatly received,

A:Display port flicker on Dell U2311H monitor

I happen to see this thread when searching for solution for the same problem. I am using 3 monitor display setup, using U2311H connected with displayport to HD 5770 graphic card and 2 samsung 940b monitor connected with DVI to the same HD 5770 graphic card.

U2311H flickers (screen become totally black) for 1 to 2 sec at random times and return to normal.

I did not try any other display port cable yet because I did not have time to buy another one.

Seems like adbarnes have the same problem, I am wondering if it is because we are using 3 display setup? or display port? Or maybe there is something wrong with U2311h?

I have been using U2311H for some time, this flicker problem happens recently.

adbarnes, have you discovered how to solve the flicker problem?

My dell U2311H is using 1920x1080 (recommended) resolution
My samsung 940B is using 1280x1024 (recommended) resolution
(all using the recommended resolutions)
using win 7

Thanks everyone for helping

I have used the DVI out on my GTX 560ti for years now without issue, but my cable is failing, so I switched to HDMI using a miniHDMI adapter. At native 1080p, the screen is two big by about a half inch in each direction.

I can resize it in NVIDIA control panel to 1862x1068 to make it fit correctly... is this what I'll have to do? I don't see why it can't just be normal at 1080p native.

But besides that, the screen, especially text, isn't sharp. I've looked around a bit but can't find setting for this.

Here's a screencap, hopefully you can see what I mean. http://i.imgur.com/G0T7Now.png

Any help as always is greatly appreciated.

I have been having issues this week with several Dell OptiPlex 3050 losing the display port signal when opening up a word or excel document or switching from a browser to another program.  This just started to happen this week.  The monitor goes black and states it is going into power save mode.  The display port cable has to be unplugged and then plugged back in for the monitor to work.   I have checked to make sure that all of the drivers and BIOS is up to date and they are.  I am thinking that an update is causing the issue but I restored back to October 2 and that still didn’t fix the issue.  Anyone have any suggestions?

A:OptiPlex 3050 Display Port Issue

* Which 3050? (Micro Form Factor, Small Form Factor, Mini Tower)* Are the 3050s using the same monitor models?* Are the 3050s using the same operating system?* Are the monitors connected to the 3050 onboard DP out port? Or are they connected to added discrete video cards DP out port?* What about when using the 3050 onboard HDMI out port? Do they have the issue?

No information found thus my post.  I have a HP 7541 plotter that worked on older desktops.  Currently I do not have a desktop, which I used in the past.  Matching ports from the older RS232 port to the laptop USB port is my goal.  I set the plotter aside in working condition and it passed the start up test.  So, what interface plug or cable do I need to use here? Thanks for reading.  Thanks for any replies.

I'm running WinXP w/SP2 on a Dell OptiPlex 740. I have an application that requires a barcode scanner to be connected and configured (via serial) to COM2 only. By default, the 740 has COM1 which I was able to manipulate and change to diplay COM2. Also, I changed the interrupt request to 4 and I/O range to 02E8-02EF. This configuration works... until I reboot the computer. At that time, the printer is no longer recognized by the application and it appears that Windows has reveresed the IRQ and I/O settings that I previously set. I have tried rebuilding this machine with Win XP but still get the same issue. Is this a problem with the HAL? A similar set up worked fine on OptiPlex GX150. The HAL on the 740 is currently set at ACPI Uniprocessor PC. Should I switch to Standard PC HAL and avoid the virtual IRQ setup altogether? Does anyone have any suggestions on this?

Creating a hardware profile after you have the configuration working and
using that profile to boot may retain the settings.
As it is now, windows is booting to the default profile.
To create a hardware profile
You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this procedure.

Open System in Control Panel.
On the Hardware tab, click Hardware Profiles.
Under Available hardware profiles, click Profile 1 (Current), and then click Copy.
Type a name for the new hardware profile, and then click OK.
You can customize your new profile by enabling or disabling devices for that profile in Device Manager. For more information about Device Manager, click Related Topics.

To open System, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
The profile named Profile 1 (Current) provides a model for you to create new hardware profiles. It will not appear in the list of available hardware profiles shown during startup.
