Thinkpad P50 color calibrator does not working after switching the keyboard bezel

Q: Thinkpad P50 color calibrator does not working after switching the keyboard bezel

I first spot significant cracks on my keyboard bezel and ordered an onsite maintenance for my Thinkpad P50 to have the keyboard bezel changed. However, the color calibrator never comes back to work, and it showed the following messages before activating the software: "unable to find the Lenovo laptop display to be calibration. please run this application with the laptop screen in the open position". I contacted the Lenovo support and they ordered another onsite for me to change the wire unit between the color calibrator and the mobo. However, nothing changed. The technician and I checked the wire connection and found nothing wrong. The technician was highly doubted that the display cannot be correctly identified by the mobo, because it showed as "Generic PnP Monitor". I have no idea what does this means and how will it affect the color calibrator. We actually have the original color sensor unit installed on the new keyboard bezel, basic nothing changed. Can anyone help me with it? Thanks a lot!The error code from color calibratorGeneric PnP Monitor

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a new ThinkPad P51 Xeon 1535 processor and 1920 x 1080 IPS Multi-Touch Display, running Windows 10. When I run the the Pantone color calibrator software (v1.3.0), it runs OK for the first time, successfully calibrating the display and shows the before after results. If I then run the software a second time, typically 1 week later as recommended by the software, it fails with 3 audio tones immediately following closing the display lid. When I lift the lid, the software reports an error, "Display has been changed. Please run the panel replacement utility to resolve your ability to calibrate." This is very surprising, since the display is still the same as per delivered. I can clear the fault by re-installing the pantone color calibrator software when a again it runs OK for the first time, but always fail when I run it for a second time. I have to repeatedly reinstall the software to clear the problem. This feels like a software bug. Has any one else experienced this problem? I have raised a ticket with technical support.

Hi, when I run the pantone color calibrator it does not work and suggests I run a sensor utility. When I run the sensor utility it pops up a diaglog box claiming something is missing and asks me to contact x-rite. When I contact x-rite they say all customer support for this product is offered through Lenovo. What should I try? I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the most recent version of the software, and this issue occurs even after a windows reinstall. I'm stumped.

I have a ThinkPad W530 with color sensor and Pantone Color Calibrator. It has worked just fine since I got the computer brand-new over a year ago. For the last week or so, my color calibrator has failed to launch when I click on the "ThinkPad Display needs to be re-profiled" notification. I get the spinning icon, but after a few moments it just disappears. I've tried doing a restore, and chosen a time-point before I think this happened. But the system refuses to go back to that restore point because it "can't find a file." What the ????? I have not deleted any files from the system folders, I can only believe that one of my automatic updates has screwed this up. Of course, the message does not tell me what *kind* of file is missing. I'm attempting a download and re-install of the Pantone Color Calibrator Programpantone_color_calibrator_setup_v1_2_0_6455.exe from this page: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS015010. Hoping that will work, but has anyone else encountered this issue? And what did it turn out to be? I'll report back on the results of the re-install, and thanks for any pother assistance.

Hello, Check out my post here regarding a problem with the sensor in a W540, and in particular the link to the X-Rite Service Manager update. When run, it will report whether the sensor is present or not as I suspect your problem might be that the sensor itself might have malfunctioned. If not, the service will install and update the program. Then you have at least ruled out a sensor malfunction. Color Calibrator - X-Rite Service Update I'll montitor your reply. Cheers.

Hi, I have been receiving the error stated above all day. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software ( I downloaded the copy available here ), to no avail. The last time I ran this software (about a month or two ago) it worked perfectly fine. I own a Lenovo W520, model 428449G, with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit installed. There is a possibility that this is connected to another software error I am experiencing but have not researched yet. This error is that upon entering sleep mode my laptop wakes instantly. However, I received no errors or warnings installing this software so it should, as far as I know, work independent of this.

My operating systems are:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (Default OS)
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

Motherboard:
ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO Intel Z97

Problem:
Mouse and keyboard stop working at the logon screen (usually even sooner at Starting Windows loading screen) when switching from Windows 8 to Windows 7. But when you switch from Windows 7 to Windows 8, they still work but not vice versa. They don't work at the Windows 7 installation menu either when booting from Windows DVD.

I have tried:Unplug mouse and keybaord. Nothing.
Plug-in another keyboard. Still nothing. It' s like they are being turned off immediately I plug them in.

Known temporary fixes:
1. Turn of PC and disconnect the power cable. Put the cable back in and start the PC. Mouse and keyboard are now work again. If you switch OS again you have to repeat these steps.
2. Go to the BIOS settings and change default settings related to USBs. Like USB Support to "Full Initialization" (default: Partial Initialization). Save changes and restart PC and they should work again.

Question:
How can I fix it so that mouse and keyboard always work when booting to a different OS?

A:Dual Boot - Keyboard and Mouse NOT Working after switching OS

I got it fixed. The problem was related to USB 3.0.

Solution was to change Intel xHCI Mode from "Smart Auto" to "Auto" (or just disable it) under Advanced - USB Configuration. So it will not use USB 3.0 during the boot.

Note: Also make sure that Legacy USB support it set to Auto or Enabled.

Hi there, hopefully this is a quick, easy-to-solve question:

Recently, out of the blue, my logitech g15 keyboard and g5 mouse will stop working any time someone switches user profiles on my computer (running XP 32bit, for the record). The LCD on the g15 will stay active but moving the mouse has no effect and pressing keys on the keyboard does nothing. The only way to make them work again is to unplug them and plug them back in. It's a fairly small problem but it's getting to be really annoying.

The Manual has no instructions. HP only sells the whole top cover as a keyboard replacement. An experienced technician can look at it and figure out how to get the keyboard out. Can you perhaps post a good picture or series of pictures of the backside of the top cover and the replacement keyboard and we will see if we can figure it out.

CHecking with the hardware manual shows example part number 90205132 ZIVY0 Upper Case SV W/KB-US. You can check on the parts lookup page for your upper case that includes the bezel and keyboard.

Check availability of the parts with Lenovo encompass here.

You can reference the hardware manual for dissassembly although since most of the parts are attached to it, you may need to remove major parts altogether as discussion here. Service training videos are currently not available at the moment for the model.

Hi, I just bought a ThinkPad Yoga 460 and I have a strange problem. The internal keyboard does not work any more across operating systems, so this isn't software specific. However, the keyboard *does* work in the beginning a cold start until the operating system boots - I can enter the BIOS settings, navigate around there, I can enter the onboard diagnostics utility, everything works fine - until an operating system boots. If I just reboot without turning the computer off, the internal keyboard doesn't work. I even restored factory settings, so I am writing this from an Ubuntu Live USB with an external keyboard until I have figured out how to restore EFI, but the keyboard still isn't working. The problem occured after a long time of using only the external keyboard, so I can't exactly tell what I was doing when it happened. I'm guessing it has to do with the rotation sensor being stuck, but what would be the point of disabling the keyboard if it's physically impossible to press any buttons in tablet mode... Also, the touch pad keeps working anyway. I removed Windows from the laptop and I don't think there'd be an easy way to get it back, so I hope any solutions would work on Linux too. Best regards,Malte

Hi all,  I recently purchased a T460s with some upgrades on the specifications (RAM 16 GB, GPU GeForce 930M and etc.). The initial operating system was set to Windows 7, so I upgraded to Windows 10 64 bit. I manually downloaded all the drivers required for this laptop and windows 10. While everything else runs pretty well, the keyboard backlight does not seem to work. I haven't checked if the backlight works on the previous operating system, so I am unsure if the problem is actually from the hardwares or if the OS was updated wrong. I am pretty sure that this model supports the keyboard backlit function since the space bar has that little image on the left side that (I'm guessing) indicates the function of backlit keyboards.  I'm wondering if there are actual drivers that I must intall prior to pressing the (Fn+Spacebar) keys to turn on the backlight, or if there is a problem with my computer. If it's the case of the latter, I am thinking about resetting my laptop (reinstalling windows 10). Being aware of how long it takes to download and install all the necessary components, once I do, is there any method of backing up the computer and after the reset just using that backup to go back to the original state where I have all my programs and data?  Thanks.

Hi all,  Today the keyboard on my Thinkpad X1 Yoga has stopped working completely and I cannot figure out why. No keys now work on the keyboard (including triggering the backlight etc), the only indication I have that it may still work is that on pressing certain keys (e.g. caps lock) there will be a beeping sound. After some googling, this seems like it may be toggle keys although I don't know if this would disable my entire keyboard and I have tried every recommended method to disable this yet the issue persists. I've also tried reinstalling my keyboard drivers, updating Windows through windows update and even a full factory reset (retaining my personal files) and the issue still persists. I've also attempted to enter safe mode although I have been unable to do this due to requiring key presses in order to access it. Does anyone have any further advice/recommendations that I could look at to try and fix this? Or is it likely that I will need to replace my laptop? Thanks for your time and I greatly appreciated any help anyone can provide!James

I have a problem with my Thinkpad Yoga 460 which started to occur about 2 weeks ago. Sometimes after bootup the keyboard does not work when I have to supply my passphrase for the hard disk encryption. The solution I have in this situation is to turn the battery of in the UEFI setup. Then pressing the power button for 10 seconds and then enabling the battery again with the power cable. This works reliable to fix the issue, but it is very annoying and when I am at the university there is no socket to enable the battery again. Is something broken or is there a workaround for this issue?

Hello Everyone! I have scoured the chats and have not seen a resolution for a partially working keyboard. I am unable to go to Bios because all the keys needed are not functioning and I do not have access to an external keyboard. This is my only only computer in the home. I have tried the following: 1. Fn+k =lock screen to see if that was enabled. 2.Accessed my accessibily menu to see if the keyboard screen had unneccessary toggles. Nothing is toggled. 3. Downloaded Talent Driver to see if I had outdated drivers. I have 2. Intel HD Graphics Family in 20.19.15.4549; and, Touchpad Synaptics Pointing in 19.3.4.86, although I am not sure how these will help with the keyboard issue. Please note, I can not go into BIOS because the necessary keys are not functionin. With this information, can anyone discern if this is a software or hardware issue. This will let me know if I can fix myself or take it to a certified Lenovo repair place. Thanks from Minnesota!!

I am not sure if I am in the right forum, but this whole site is so difficult to navigate. There are no suppot numbers, and no-one to call. I am on a different computer now because my keyboard on my X1 Carbon Thinkpad has suddenly stopped working. I can get a keyboard to come up on the screen (and type in using external mouse) but none of the keys on the actual keypad work. None of the keys work. Some of the FN keys work. I have tried Ctrl + Alt + Del.

Hey everyone, I've upgraded my ThinkPad Yoga S1 (20CD) to Windows 10. I was up to build 1607 before I started encountering issues with the onboard keyboard and touchpad losing power once the laptop gets past the BIOS load screen. Once into Windows, the fn key seems to still function, but nothing after that. Here's what I've done so far for troubleshooting:Verified drivers are current from Lenovo System Updater and support website (all drivers and BIOS are current).Checked the manufacturer's website for newer drivers for the keyboard and mouse.Brought Windows 10 up to current version 1809.Clean boot for Windows.Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers.Ran hardware troublshooting tools for keyboard and mouse.Removed the screw near the audio jack as I had read on some forums that the pressue was messing with the sensor near there.Checked the ribbon cables on the motherboard to verify they are seated correctly.Disabled sensor services (this seemed to work for a bit on Windows 1709).Tried running start up repair.Ran sfc/scannow. I'm running out of ideas, other than to go back to Windows 8, but I'd really rather not. Any suggestions/items to try that I'm missing?

I recently powered my Thinkpad W541 and the calculator button was operating itself at will. So I did a recovery on the computer (since I rarely use it) and after that, I turned on the computer and realised that some keys are no longer responding. UN-responsive keys areArrow up KeyArrow left key4, 1, 0, and period key on the numeric section by the right side of the keyboard. When I tap each of these keys I hear a tone but no response on screen. Please how do I fix this issue, I really don't want to spend money on this?

I have the exact same problem is another user on the forum here. I installed arch linux on my N22 last week. I put the laptop down yesterday, came back to it later, and now the keyboard doesn't work! I'm almost positive it's a hardware problem with these laptops but if anyone has info that would be great.
