Turning off the touchpad on my Asus notebook?

Q: Turning off the touchpad on my Asus notebook?

Hello people. I would like to request assistance. I need to disable the touchpad on my Asus G74Sx notebook. Is there some kind of program I can download that will allow me to disable the touchpad?

Pressing function F9 does not disable the touchpad, and going into the BIOS and disabling the internal pointing device also disables the keyboard, so that doesn't work for me.

I have downloaded all the drivers for my notebook numerous times, and I don't know what else to do to try to turn off this touchpad. Going into the control panel and disabling the touchpad that way, also doesn't work.

I run Windows 7 Home Premium.

Please assist me

Thank you very much

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I used to have a program that allowed me to do so, but when I google it now, I don't get any results that will allow me to download that program, it was called FspUip.exe

This issue was raised in another thread which was closed out before it was resolved. I have an ASUS Notebook K53e and I want to disable the touchpad on it which the specific make/model is ELAN PS/2 Port Smartpad. You should be able to do this with Fn+F9 however that keyboard function does not work on my computer as the guy in the previous thread. When I got to devmgmt.msc->Properties on the device->Driver , the "Disable" button is greyed out. I did not receive a driver CD with the machine I purchased . I need this thing disabled because it interferes with the typing very badly. Where do I go from here? Thanks,

A:Cannot disable ASUS Notebook Touchpad

Well, I just found the fix myself after posting this thread. You have to go to Control panel->Hardware and Sound->Devices & Printers-> Right click on the PC device->Mouse Settings->ELAN tab there is an option to Stop Device. Pain the arse mate

My almost 3 year old Asus X52 F3SV Notebook suddenly froze and shut itself down today. It will not boot past the 'Asus' logo screen. The furthest it got was 'loading windows', but quickly rebooted once that screen showed up.
It has been running quite hot lately, but i cleaned the fan out last weekend, and it had been running without problem since then.
I'm running Windows Vista Premium, with no other real problems until now, with up to date windows updates and regular Spybot and anti-virus scans.
There were random multicoloured lines running through the Asus screen on the first reboot after freezing. Could it be my graphics card? (Nvidia 8600m). I did not hear any crackling/popping sounds, so I really hope it's not dead yet.
I've looked around these forums, but couldn't find a similar problem/solution.

Thank you.

A:Asus x52 F3SV notebook not booting past Asus screen

Try running Bios defaults

This settings area can be called:
Bios Setup
CMOS Settings
System Setup
even just Setup
You can enter it by pressing the keyboard key that is displayed on your screen when first turning on your computer
Its sometimes:
A Fn Button like F1, or F2, or F10 or some other Fn key
DEL key
(whatever the computer states on screen when you first turn on your computer)
Once in Bios Setup, locate Setup Defaults (sometimes called Optimized Defaults)
Apply it, then Save and Exit Bios Settings (which is usually F10, but it will tell you in the Bios Settings screen)

If that doesn't help try reming and re-seating your Ram cards (even your hard drive)
You can download your Manual to find the locations of these components, but they are usually located under the laptop, under the covers

If it is your Video card (onboard) then that was be a big concern
You may need to locate the disassemble guide online, then blow out all internal dust

It may also require a CheckDisk scan
You can read HERE on how to do that outside Windows

I tried to put this under the correct topic but I wasn't sure. If an admin sees fit, feel free to move it.

I have an ASUS G74sx, brand new. I have Windows 7 also. I can not disable my touchpad. I tried fn + f9. I tried going to start, run, and trying to disable it that way but the touchpad device is not an available option. I've also tried doing it through control panel but again, the touchpad is not a device option.
I really need to get this disabled. I can barely type because my hand keeps brushing the touchpad.

Sounds like the quickest solution would be to reinstall the drivers so that you can get the Control Panel icon back, and then disable the touchpad thereafter.

The problem started with my wireless adapter gone missing from device manager as if I don't have wireless property in my laptop. I tried many solutions and nothing worked so I finally installed a fresh copy of windows but the problem was still present. Additionally, my touchpad (though with scroll and buttons working is not turning on/off. When pressing on the left upper edge it doesn't turn on/off, I can't see it in mouse properties or device manager (only PS/2 compatible mouse mentioned there + HID compliant mouse which is my external USB mouse I think). My wireless adapter problem is being solved as I am replacing my wireless adapter with a new one, so my problem now is with my touch pad, I want to be able to turn it on/off so please help

Hello My HP ENVY Notebook - 17t-n100 CTO (ENERGY STAR), suddenly shut down without any error or message. It wasn't overheating as it was on only for about 25 minutes. I tried to turn it back on afterwards but it was has not been responding. The charging light in on like everything is normal. Battery is fully charged. When I try to turn it on while pressing the power on button, the button itself blinks for about half a second, maybe even less, the fan starts running for about the same time, the light that indicates that laptop is plugged in, the one I mentioned earlier, shuts down and that's it, nothing happens. I tried the hard reset but it didn't help. The laptop is a brand new one and was bought for an UPcoming event on October, now it?s not responding and am not sure what to do. Please do you have any suggestion as to what could have caused this, and how to fix it?

A few days ago, after using my laptop for a bit i left it, still on, for an hour or so and returned to a black screen.Assuming it had a flat battery, i plugged it in and attempted to charge it.After a few presses of the power button (spread over 5 or so minutes as i double checked the charger connection and what not), i noticed the charging light near the port on the laptop was unlit.I followed some online instructions and removed the battery and attempted a hard reset. Nothing. I then put the battery back in, left it to charge for half an hour. Still nothing. I assumed the problem may be the charger (which did not have a light on it to indicate whether it was working), so i bought a new one, but still didnt turn on :/I thought it might be the charging port is acting up but apparently there would still be some sign or light to indicate even a minimal bit of power coming in. Anyone experienced this before or have any ideas?

My notebook is no longer turning on.  I have done all of the recommended trouble shooting ideas, still nothing.  Upon further inspection I noticed that the Power Port on the Notebook appears to be damaged.  That being said, I was able to get the computer to power on once briefly while plugged in.  The power indicator light was also on.  I checked to see if a battery issue and it stated I was at 94 % battery life and charging.  The power indicator light went off and so did my computer.  Since then I have not been able to get the computer to come back on.  Last evening while messing around with the Power Port, I plugged the Power Chord back in and for a couple of hours the amber, then white light next to the Power Port did come back on.  I firgured I would let it charge over night.  When I woke up this morning the light was no longer on and the computer would not power on.  Obviously there is an issue with the Power Port, but if the battery is almost fully charged, why will the Notebook not power on?  Please help.

I fail to understand why on a laptop (which has no touchscreen) why you would want to have the swipe gestures?

Surely most folks don't look at the touchpad in use, so it is often that one starts off to the right (especially when the pad is off centre), and it is natural to move to the left to find where one wants to start - hey presto the charms bar opens, and if you're not carefull all sorts of events occur which you really don't want.

Any way on my Lenovo Z580 with synaptics 8.1 we have the worst of both worlds - there is no easy option in the Synaptics settings to turn off the gestures, so the option is to do registry editing to the key TouchPadPS2_3 - I have amended the Active Type dwords from 2 to 0. However there is a side effect of this.

When booting, there is now a delay till the process finishes - we now get blue circular processes next to the pointer for approx 40 seconds.

Does anyone know what other edits we need to make to remove this delay?

Here is the registry for the right edgepull:

Having a strange issue with the Touchpad on my Dell Precision M4800. When I disable it using the Dell software or using the Fn+F5 hotkey, it has a tendency to come back on after a random interval of time. I want it to stay turned off permanently, as I prefer to use the Pointstick exclusively.
When using the Fn hotkey, I get a notification onscreen as well as a popup in the system tray saying "Touchpad notification: Your touchpad has been disabled." If I manually disable it through the Dell Pointing Devices software, I get the same effect, but without the notification. In either case, this works great... for awhile.
But then the Touchpad inevitably turns back on. I often don't notice until suddenly my mouse cursor is behaving erratically, at which point I try to swipe my finger on the touchpad and sure enough, it's become enabled again.
However after some further experimenting it turns out the "random" aspect of this is not totally random and I can reproduce the issue quite reliably by furiously scanning my finger back and forth across the Touchpad for a few seconds. Inevitably, the touchpad will turn back on, and I will get the notification "Your touchpad has been enabled." No buttons or hotkeys are pressed, all I have to do is move my finger on the touchpad surface rapidly and within seconds of starting to do that, it will re-enable itself. Again, there is also a notification that it has been re-enabled when this happens, so the software... Read more

I had the same problem.   I believe this is a "feature" in that it allows a person who, let's say forgot their travel mouse, to turn the touchpad on again.   The problem is that its too sensitive.   Here's the solution.
(I found the part of the solution here:  http://geekswithblogs.net/dbutscher/archive/2009/09/14/dell-touchpad--enablingdisabling.aspx)

Locate the Program Files\DellTpad directory
Double click on DellTPad.exe
On the bottom, adjust "Touch Check" so that it desensitizes the touchpad to you accidental touches
With this setting all the way Minimum, the touch pad never accidently turns back on, but I can still turn it on by swiping furiously

Hope this helps!

Hello. So I know there are lots of posts about laptop turning off, yes I read them, and could not find a solution. I did some tests and etc..
So my story is: After like half a year of using my new laptop, It started to shutting down without any warnings at some games (like 50% of any games I tried). But the strangest fact is that it does not depend on how advanced game is.. Some games manage to make my laptop hot as hell and it does not turn off at all. And some small games these don't need many resources, turn my laptop off. Like after 5 min. of gaming... N56VZ is kinda high in resources. 8Gb ram, GT650M video card, i7 processor... Small games should not do a lot of impact on it.. Also on browsing or doing something else does not turn off my laptop, only games.
I tried running without battery, only with battery - result is the same..
I did some stress tests, laptop did not turn off, and results of prime95 you can see in uploaded photos. I ran them like 1 hour each.. http://speedy.sh/yPJSZ/Smal-FFT.bmp and http://www.speedyshare.com/B62C5/Blend.bmp
I also did ZHPDiag test. http://www.speedyshare.com/WHB5P/ZHPDiag.txt
I tried to disable sound driver. Laptop still shut off, but after 30 min. With drivers on, it shuts off in 5 min. Tried to uninstall and download drivers again from asus support page, tried older ones and newer ones, that did not help..
I also tried installing different windows 7 os, and that did not help me.
What could I do? Im annoyed, I would send my lap... Read more

Pressing power cycles the lights (hdd, wifi) monitor turns on (black) then promptly shuts back off (maybe 1 full second). Hdd spins abruptly, then nothing.

Tried removing battery, just using adapter.
Tried using just battery, no adapter.
Tried holding power for 30 seconds with no power.
Tried removing hdd.
Tried removing ram.
Removed and reconnected all ribbons and power cables.

Loaded hdd into external usb enclosure and backed up data, so the hdd isnt the issue.

My guess would be a toast motherboard but the weird thing is that occasionally if im persistent it will start, dont know why sometimes it does (like 1% of the time maybe)...

Warranty is expired, repair costs are not in the budget, and a replacement is out of reach financially atm...

Anything else I can try?

Do any lights stay on when the screen goes blank or does everything go dark?  It sounds like the screen stays on when you are in the BIOS since you were able to run the diagnostics.  You might try restoring Windows back if that is what is not working using the F11 system recovery option.

Hello to all,

I have bought new HP laptop ProBook series. Before connecting, I was informed to "form" the battery first so it can last longer. I'm not sure what that means. Battery is included in the package but was not connected to the laptop. What should I do first? Should I connect battery and turn on laptop, or should I first connect it to the adapter for charging?

In the instruction nothing is said about the correct procedure. There are few steps such as connecting the battery to the laptop, then connecting the external power (adapter) and then turn on computer.

Should there be some time after connecting the external power and before turning on?

Then on getting it out to use again this evening I cannot get it to start. I have checked a lot of support pages and searches for the problem and have tried all solutions I have come across (hard resets, attempting turn on with and without battery and/or AV power cord). Nothing seems to work. There are no flashing lights or noises coming from the notebook at all. There also seems to be no damage to any of the cables or power equipment. Please advise what course of action I should now take.

I have an Asus laptop with a Atheros AR9485 wireless network adapter. I've owned the laptop for a year and a half and never had a problem until the last 6-8 weeks.

The wireless adapter turns itself off randomly. I can be in the middle of something and my connection is gone. I click on troubleshooting and it tells me it is off, so I turn it back on and it will work for a while longer until it decides to do it again.

I have disabled all other network adapters. I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them. I don't know what is causing this. It all started after I hooked up a router (via ethernet) to set it up about 2 months ago. It was only connected for 20 minutes while I set it up, but ever since then my wifi adapter will not stay on. Like I said, it happens when I'm using the computer...not just when it's idle.

Any ideas what I could try?

A:Wifi adapter keeps turning off on Asus laptop

well go to the website of the usb wifi adapter and download the latest driver/software..

uninstall the anything you see related to the usb wifi adapter.. like in your "programs and features" .. uninstall the wifi adapter drivers..

then restart your computer.. take out your usb adapter.. restart..

then leave your usb adapter unplugged and then run ccleaner if you have it and registry clean.. and then install the software/driver you downloaded from your maker of the usb wifi adapter.. then plug in your usb wifi adapter..

start with that.. thats a rough way to do it..

Hello, i'm a newbie in troubleshooting, I have a problem when I open my notebook/laptop it always show the BIOS Setup, so what i do is I press "ESC" on keyboard the select "Yes" to discard the changes in BIOS and it loads the windows and works properly I tried to restart but when I restart same process the BIOS Setup always appear, how can I prevent the BIOS Setup showing in turning on my notebook/laptop?

I did recently;
-Startup Repair; but doesn't solve the issue.
-I disassemble my notebook/laptop I thought it has a CMOS battery
-Load Default Settings of BIOS; still doesn't change anything.

Sometimes the BIOS Setup doesn't appear in starting up but it shows a message that something like there's a problem in BIOS, I forgot the exact message then below there's a choice:
Press F1 to run Setup.
Press F2 to load defaults.................etc.

Pressing F1 it goes me to BIOS Setup
Pressing F2 the windows loads normally

A:BIOS Setup always show in turning on a Notebook/Laptop

It does sound like a failing (or failed) CMOS battery. Is the BIOS clock/date resetting itself to the same time/date? What is the make and full model number of the laptop/notebook?
