InstallShield Problem

Q: InstallShield Problem

I bought this canon optura50 camcorder, and I try to install
the canon USB video driver from the digital video solution disk
provided. On the last step of installing the driver, after I clicked
'finish', there will be a pop up saying this :
"1628 : Fail to complete installation"
I asked for canon support, they said it's the InstallShield program problem on my pc (XP), and asked me to redownload the sscript8.msi to a specific development directory in my installshield directory, but I don't have the development directory at all. Now I have no idea what to do, can someone help me? Thanks.

Preferred Solution: InstallShield Problem

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi All,

I created .msi file with InstallShield X Basic MSI package.
I used custom dialogs and custom actions. For this requires InstallShield Scripting Engine to run this file. And This file I got ISScript101.zip. This is manual way of installing the scripting engine.
This is working fine on systems where ISScript engine has been installed,

But I need to avoid manually installing scripting engine, ISScript engine should be installed as part of MSI installation.
I need to include .msm file with this package. I included installshieldscriptingengine.msm file with version 10.01.

But it's not working, when i am installing this package in, any Windows Operating System.

What should I requires to do? How to proceed?

case where DLG_ERR.--- showing error "Unable to display dialog box. Setup canceled",

Please Help!

Sometimes you have to delete the setup1.exe file from the Windows directory. Why this is, I don't know. I program as a hobby, and have had to do this in the past. Especially for programs written in Visual Basic. Give it a try, it can't hurt. If it worries you, simply cut and paste the setup1.exe file to another location until you are sure this worked.

I am having a problem with my computer where the Installshield wizard will not install particular programmes. For example, when installing iTunes and MSN Messenger upgrades there are the error codes 1601 and 1607. However, i've tried other programmes that use this software and it installs perfectly fine. I do regular virus and spyware checks. Other than this the computer works fine. I've been on the Installshield website where the instructions on there are more suitable for a pro so I have not been able to make use of them.

Is there any way I could re-install the Installshield software?

If you could help me it would be gr8

(Some of these suggestions are mentioned in the web reference you gave - some have updates.)
Do one suggestion at a time trying to install your program between each suggestion.
Before you start make sure you create a system restore point in case something does not work.
To do this go to Start -> Run -> type %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe -> enter -> select Create a Restore Point -> Next -> type a helpful Restore Point Description -> click Create
Once this has been created end all installation processes as Zazula mentiones

1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del and select Task Manager.
2. Go to the Processes tab.
3. Check the running processes for any or some of these names:
4. Select any of the above processes that are found running on the system.
5. Select End Process

1. Make sure all 3 of these files are in C:\Windows\System32

2. Did you install the Installshield update?
First go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield and then delete the engine folder.
Then download ikernelupdate and install. (This is a different version)

3. Download Windows Installer 4.5 (Also a different version) from here

Recently i tried to uninstall one of my program via add/remove program but it failed to do so. I believe its because of InstallShield problem from what i read in internet. I also face the same problem installing ANY applications/games using InstallShied Wizard. I went to this site and downloaded the ISScript engine for the version of the setup file and still failed to install the application. I tried to update InstallShield version last night, the installation was aborted because of same error.

Last night i tried to install C&C Generals, the version of the setup file is, so i went to installshield site and download ISScript7.zip. I managed to install the script without any problem, after rebooting nothing has changed tho, still cant install/uninstall anything.

Here's the error images.

After clicking OK, the installation failed to continue and aborted. Maybe my Tuneup utilities messed up with registry keys i dun know.

So what do you think ? OS is XP service pack 2. I googled for information for days and did all the solutions given still no avail. I tried Windows Installer CleanUp Utility but its only works with softwares that used the Windows Installer technology to be installed. I really blank now..

Thx !

In case you suspect a program messed up your Registry, you might want to actually see what it did.

The WinXP System Restore tool restores (among other things) the Registry to its previous state ( Frequently Asked Questions Regarding System Restore in Windows XP).

So, if via the System Restore tool you can reach an earlier state at which you do not experience this issue, then do the following:

1. Start Regedit.exe.
2. Select each registry root that you want to compare. (Example: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE)
3. From the menu bar, click Registry.
4. Click Save Subtree As.
5. Click Save as type.
6. Select Text files.
7. Save the file as Filename.old.
8. Follow the above steps for all subtrees.
9. Go back to your present, "problematic" state.
10. After having done that, repeat steps 1-6.
11. Save the file as Filename.new.
12. You are going to use Windiff from the resource kit and compare the two files, filename.old and filename.new. (In Microsoft Windows 2000 and later, Windiff.exe is included on the original CD-ROM in the Support\Tools folder. To install the support tools, run Setup.exe from the Support\Tools folder. Windiff.exe is also in the Support.cab file. Support.cab is included with every service pack.)
13. Start Windiff.exe.
14. On the File menu, click Compare Files. ... Read more

Hello Everyone,

I have a Win XP SP2 laptop and any software that uses installshield will not install. I get different errors depending on the particular program I'm trying to install. One example is "1607: Unable to install installshield scripting runtime". Everything else on the computer seems to be running fine. I've searched the web extensively for answers to this problem and I'm down to either reinstalling the Installshield program or reinstalling Win XP.

Does anyone have info on how to solve this problem? Or does anyone know where to find the installshield program so I can reinstall it? Reinstalling Windows obviously has it's drawbacks.

Thanks for your help!

The DVD drive is not working properly, and it APPEARS to be related to an error with Windows Installer. I can read files on a storage disk in the drive, but any install disk brings up "InstallShield Setup Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close."

Windows XP SP3

I have done the following with no effect:
- Run Windows Install cleanup
- Downloaded and installed Windows Installer 4.5
- Made sure the Installer Service is set to Manual
- Scanned with AVG, Superantispyware, Spybot, and Advanced System Optimizer
- Made sure all Windows updates are updated

The last may provide a clue, however, if it's related. When running Windows Update, the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 and 3.5 Family Update will not install.

Please let me know what other information you may need to help me out. Thanks in advance.

Hi for some reason my InstallShield Setup Launcher keeps crashing when I try to run some exe's. Just a short while ago everything was working fine, but now I'm getting these crashes every time I go to run some of my exe files.

For example, when I go to install a game, I briefly see a message "Starting InstallShield Wizard", and then another message pops up saying "InstallShield Setup Launcher has stopped working". When I click "Close the program", a third message pops up from the taskbar saying "InstallShield Setup launcher was closed: To help protect your computer, Data Execution Prevention has closed InstallShield Setup Launcher. Click to learn more."

I tried disabling DEP, and I tried System Restore, but neither helped. I tried every possible compatibility combination. I even tried updating to the latest InstallShield installation engine, but it crashes when trying to run the IkernalUpdate.exe . I've been searching for hours for a solution but have not found one. I can install some programs, but not others. To be fair, I don't know exactly when the installation problem began, but it came after resolving a problem by removing Roxio and Sonic Ceneplayer (I think) from my computer and registry. I also apparently had a wayward MS automatic update force a System Restore. I didn't install anything for some time, then had a problem installing a freeware program a couple of weeks ago. About that time I found I couldn't open Outlook, which I uninstalled to reinstall a fresh version, but no go. Some exe's work, though.

My computer is a Sony Vaio laptop with XP Home, SP2. It's got a 1.6 CPU and 2GB memory. It scanned clean with NOD32 and online scanners after the Roxio ordeal. I don't remember Google prompted me I do to successfully get rid of Roxio and stop Windows Installer from repeatedly starting up each time a video thumbnail showed in Windows Explorer.

I'm pretty sure Installer still is the problem, but I don't get an error message when a double-clicked exe fails. InstallShield just does away and nothing more happens. I've looked in the Event Viewer's Application Log and found such suspicious clues as "handwritingfiles" and "solefeature," but Google didn't turn up much, so I hoping someone will help. The log said "Detection of product '{90170409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}', feature 'HandWritingFiles' failed during request for component ... Read more

I have been trying to install some software for a web cam for quite some time now. However everytime I do try it will begin installing and then installshield wizard will minimise itself and stay that way.

I have tried everything i can think of like installing in safe mode, turning off anti virus and all that jazz. When i try installing in safe mode it comes up with a different error saying:

1607 unable to install installshieldwizars scripting runtime.

I don't know what to do I was thinking of taking the camera back and swapping for a different one but i REALLY think it's the computer and not the camera software.

I've also tried steps that i found online to fix the problem but alot of the filepaths they give for me to go to don't exist on my computer........

I'm having trouble installing an appln (MPIO mp3 Manager2), and after a lot of investigation I think there's a problem with Installshield (Engine 6) on my PC.

I have come to this conclusion because the appln installation problem generates the same symptoms and error as the problem with Installshield; namely -

When I try to update the Installshield kernal engine from the zip file downloaded from the Installshield web site I get the error;
An installation support file C:\Prog...File\ Common Files\Installshield\engine\Intel 32\iuser.dll
Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

This is virtually the same error that I'm getting with Manager2 when it's installation aborts, so I'm thinking the Installshield is the underlying problem - although Manager2 is the only appln that I seem to be having an installation problem with.

I've tried deleting the Installshield engine folder (as recommended by the Installshield web site) and cleaning out the Window's Temp folder - but nothing helps.

I'm wondering if there is some rogue entry in the registery that is causing this problem.

Any suggestions to help fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.

FYI - I'm running Win XP SP2 on a P4 3200Mhz, 1 Gig RAM, Asus m/b.

I don't know why this happened, I've never had a problem with InstallShield before. I've used it without a problem for forever. I was NOT installing InstallShield, I was NOT updating InstallShield, I was NOT doing anything to InstallShield at all, it just stopped working all of a sudden. I was trying to install some things and it just started giving me these errors.

I keep getting error: "The InstallShield Engine (iKernal.exe) could not be lauched. No such interface supported."

I have googled, I have searched the intallshield FAQ. I have searched the Microsoft FAQ. PLEASE, for my sanity, don't simply redirect me to an FAQ, or tell me to restart my computer.

I don't think its malware/viruses etc, I have and use ZoneAlarm and its worked pretty good.

I have recently bought Battlefield 2. Before doing this, I had *tried* to install the Battlefield 2 demo off the EA games website, where I run into the same problem:

After I insert Disc 1, I choose my language, click Install. I get the first welcome screen "The InstallShield Wizard will install Battlefield 2 on your computer. To continue, click next." I click next. I enter my registration key. I click next. This is where something goes wrong:

Every time I try at a "later time" i.e after rebooting, the same problem occurs.

I would really need help for this weird problem I am getting. I have searched in different forums and on the web and cannot even found a similar occurrence.

The problem occurs for some (note, only some) software installation invoking installshield wizard (or other installers).

When it occurs, the wizard does not wait for the user to click the relevant button and advance steps (eg "next" after having selected the relevant step).
Example, say I launch a driver installation, and I need first to select the sound card. The wizard will have a first screen with different selectable options and a "next" and "back" buttons.
Well, what happens is that it just jump to the next step, as if someone had clicked, but actually this looks like a "script" of some sort happening. I then have to work against this "phantom" script to click back and select my option before the script clicks on "next".
The script is like it just jump to the next (as if clicking on next) after 1 or 2 sec, and you have to select your option in that slot.

So, this sort of autoscript or "autoexecute" does not select an option, rather it is like it just clicks on "next" after one / two sec or so. Like you have a child pressing the button on your same keyboard or clicking on the mouse, against you have to fight and click on back (note that you have control on the mouse). This is really weird, isn't it?

This effectively jeopar... Read more

Now the other computer when i run it from either the CD or from the computer the installshield box pops up then goes away. Nothing else follows after that as it would normally do. Does anyone have any idea on how I can get this to work. I have a meeting to go to in DC and it's important that I get this laptop to work with this PC card so i can trade stocks while I am on the road in the morning.

I have installshield on my pc. My inspector programme tells me that it will no longer be updated and, therefore, it should be uninstalled (as a security measure).

I have a number of options.

Use a programme that removes the registry entries, but leaves the programmes on disk. There are references in the registry;
Switch-off automatic updates in the update manager (installshield);
white-list installshield in the inspector program.

The programme cannot be uninstalled in Programs and Features (not listed).
Evidently, I should not manually delete the programs.

I don't know what to do.

Advice please.

Perfect uninstaller and revounistaller will both force an uninstall (by removing the registry entries) as well as remove the files however they must be used with care. I don't know what software you are using but before you start following it's advise and uninstall everything that it lists as some kind of security threat you might want to research what you are removing to find out if it should be left alone. Take installshield-a simple google search shows what it is used for. It is used by developers to aid in the installation and removal of their programs which probably explains why it doesn't show up in programs and features. Therefore if you force an uninstall of installshield you could mess up other programs and find that you can't remove or maybe even use them. My advice to you is to leave installshield alone. Also take care when using any registry cleanup software because if it damages the registry you could start having windows or program errors or possibly not be able to boot into windows depending upon the level of damage.

I know this is a v.old thread - but Im having trouble Installing a 'SOLDOUT' version of Sid Meierr's PIRATES! on 32-bit OS.
It just stops working whilst displaying 'Setup is prepering the installShield Wizard'. The program does not freeze as in (not responding) but it just isn't doing anything. Then I thought 'actually I have had this problem a few times' so its time to hit the forums.

Any help would be great!

Cheers guys!!!

Background: As of yesterday I am on a fresh Windows 7 installation, prior to that any game/program that used installshield took forever to install. It would literally sit there for about 45 minutes to an hour before the progress bar moves anywhere.

Now that I am on a fresh installation of Windows 7 I figured all my problems would be gone, boy was I wrong. I started to install Crysis, then got up to do something, I come back an hour later, 0 progress. Same thing with Star Wars: Republic Commando. Both use installshield.

Note: I am not getting errors, the progress bar just sits there.

Edit: after about 40 minutes, Republic commando decided to start installing, but the issue still stands that installshield would want nothing more that to just waste my time

Hi guys,
I just bought an Abit NF7-S mobo, 2x256MB XMS3200 and an anthlon xo 2500+ and installed it all last night. Now I'm trouble installing the Nforce 2 chipset drivers. The installation package uses InstallShield, and whenever i try to install it, it extracts the file then says in an error message "The InstallShield Egine (iKernel.exe) Could not be lauched.
Error loading type library/DLL"
I need to know where I can download and reinstall InstallShield Wizard For Win 98. I've tried their site, but it's the fancy buisness installers that cost $, where can i get a plain one?

Hi all,

I had to go back to a restore point because of a driver issue with regards to my DVD Rom on my laptop. Now, however, when I startup my lappy2000 I have a new-and-improved problem. I had Napster (I know, stupid) and it came with Roxio Media 9 (evil). I Unistalled Napster a while ago and appearantly I did not get rid of Roxio completely. This was never an issue until I ran the system Restore...

So the problem:
When ever I startup my computer InstallShield starts to install Roxio9 Media Center. Well it is mostly gone so it is missing files and the install creates an Error. I don't want Roxio Installed but I can't figure out how to stop it. I have to Control/Alt/Delete to end the process otherwise it continues to loop. Even if I hit cancel it will just start installing again a few seconds later. I ran a file and registry cleaner and cleaned out anything and everything I could find pertaining to Roxio's software and yet once I reboot my PC it trys to install again. So I think there is some .exe files in InstallShiled Wizard (evil) that keeps running. How do I locate these and how can I stop this? I did notice a file C:/program Files/InstallShield Instillation Information but this files in here have no names and look like registry information so I didn't want to just start deleting stuff.

Is there any way to get this installation out of InstallShields 'queue' for lack of a better term? In addition this is preventing me from being able to install ot... Read more

fyi basically had to hunt and destroy every file relating to Roxio I could find and disable install shield in msconfig. Not sure if that is a bad thing but I can regularly check for updates myself I don't need installshield to do it for me. Programs seem to install fine sooo hopefully no problems.

This is in relation to the project that I have previously been posting about, it is almost done, and I have been looking through the InstallShield For C++. I have created a test installer for the program, but I can't get it to put anything into the start menu, or simply a shortcut onto the desktop... is anyone able to give me instructions on how to do this?
