I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Until recently, I was always able to adjust my monitor's screen resolution. Now whenever I try to adjust it to 2048 by 1536 pixels (the most resolution), I get an error message that says:

OUT OF FREQUENCY

HF: 95.4 kHz
VF: 60.0 Hz

OPERATING FREQUENCY

HF: 30-70 kHz
VF: 50-160 Hz

What does all this mean? Why can't I do something simple like set my screen resolution?

Help would be appreciated... thanks.

That's a pretty high resolution. Sometimes resolutions are listed that a monitor doesn't support. Where you able to set it there before?

AOC 2353 monitor, on windows 7 has a recommended resolution of 1920 by 1080

when it is set here I notice even the desktop boots up quick and efficient. opposed to when it is set at 1600 by 900. which is best on the eyes.

problem with 1920 by 1080 is that the folders and print are far too minute to see.

this is with Intel onboard video, from the processor.

is there a way to expand the text and folders? browsers can be zoomed

would having a video card help?

A:adjusting screen resolution - AOC monitor

If you go into the advanced display settings, you can increase the size of items and fonts and can "bold" the text.
I've got bad eyes, so I do this every time I set up one of my computers after I install the Windows operating system.

The native resolution for my 27" monitors is 1920 X 1080.
This is an example of what my desktop looks like after changing the display settings.
As you can see, the icons and text are noticeably larger and bolder than they would be from using the default settings.

Hi everyone!
I have a problem when i start using Win7 and adjust my screen resolution...
when i adjust the resolution to 1206x682 or higher, the whole windows become larger and eventually become larger than my screen. So i can see only part of my taskbar. However, this will not happen when i use XP.
Is this normal?
At this time i can't use any video editing software as they require 1024x768 or higher resolution, what should i do?
Sorry for my poor English. I am still an English learner.
thanks!

UPDATE-----
when i set to a higher resolution in XP, the icons are smaller and the size of the windows doesnt change. But when i do this in 7, the size of icons doesnt change but the whole windows become larger.

So I bought a new netbook for work travel recently and loaded a program that I need to use. Program runs fine and all, however the prescribed screen resolution for the program is 1024x768 and the netbook (with Windows 7 HE and an Intel GMA 3150) doesn't seem to want to go past 1024x600. Does anyone perhaps have a thought or a way to get 7 to display more here? I don't mind if I even just need to scroll around to get to all the material, but right now its just cutting off part of the program making it impossible to work on some of it.

A:Adjusting Netbook Screen Resolution

Hi Orion3,

While your 1024x768 program is a standard 4:3 aspect ratio, 1024x600 is a widescreen aspect ratio (16:9) as many netbooks have. I'm pretty sure that if 600 is the maximum pixel height it can display but you still need to match the 4:3 aspect ratio program, then you'll have to go down to 800x600 rather than up. Try that and let me know how it works.

Cheers,

I have had my laptop for nearly half a year now and I just recently found an HDMI cable in an old junk box that can be connected from my widescreen Samsung DLP to my Laptop. The problem is that when I set my TV to be the main display the task bar does not fit on screen and I can barely see it. Another problem is when I play my games or watch videos they also appear to be bigger then what my screen is. I cant even see the exit or minus button when I make my windows/browsers in full screen. I have tried changing the screen resolution, but that doesn't work either. I then thought it might be my TV but it does not give my the option to change its aspect ratio.

I there solution to my little problem? Like a download or a program that is naturally in the computer that can adjust the aspect ratio (not resolution) manually for extended displays? And the resolution is on its recommended settings by the way.

A:I need help with adjusting my screen.

What is the graphics card on your laptop? Both AMD and nVidia cards have overscan options in their software which should give you the capability to adjust your display size manually until it fits. Also check that you're outputting the correct resolution for your TV.

First of all, please specify maker and model of your laptop. Some vendors could have their own third party replacements for some functions.

Also, please go to Control Panel - Power Options - on the right side of your current active power plan select "Change plan settings" - in the next window click "Change ADVANCED power settings" - then navigate to - Display - Display brightness and check percentage.

Hi everyone, I have a pretty weird tech problem.

What happens is, whenever I adjust my monitor's brightness (from its physical buttons) the screen turns black. However the monitor is still on, the LED is still green and the computer is still responsive, the screen just turns black.

I can use the computer just fine, as long as I don't try to adjust anything. If I do want to change something, I have to change the values a little, then restart, change them again, restart until I have the values I want. This problem appeared when I tried to adjust the brightness by keeping the + button pressed down, so it increased quickly.

Is this indicative of a dying monitor ? It is pretty old, it's an LG L1750SQ, 17 inch LCD, it's over 4 years old. Also, I do not believe the video card to the problem, since it stays pretty cool, it has a good heatsink on it.

Hi. I'm new here and this is my first post. I looked around a little and found one other thread with a similar question, but the question wasn't really answered. I can't find anything on the net that doesn't confuse me so bad it makes my head hurt, so I thought I'd try asking here. Thanks in advance for any answers I get.

I will try and be as thorough as possible, although the resulting question will be simple. I'll start out with why I am asking the question to begin with.

So I am trying to play a game I used to play nearly ten years ago. It's a free online game called Continuum/Subspace and there are user created "zones" or variations of the game within the game (if that makes sense). I play in a zone called Trench Wars. It's a top down game, meaning you are looking down at your ship as if from above and the screen scrolls as you move to reveal more of the area (map) you are playing in. You are in a spaceship of your choice with varying weapons for each ship. The game requires aiming at your enemies before firing at them and anticipating their moves.

Well I noticed that playing at a higher resolution allows you to see more of your immediate area and expands your view of the map. It works just like your desktop in essence. The higher the resolution, the smaller the icons, but the more space you have. In the game, the higher the resolution, the smaller the ships are, but you can see more space around you. Obviously, this would give an advantage to anyone playing ... Read more

A:Forcing Screen Resolution Higher Than Native Resolution

Simple answer is: you can not go over the native resolution of LCD panel because its physical thing for each pixel lcd panel has a cell you can not have more pixels than there is physical pixels in that panel.

smaller than native resolutions achieved by grouping more than one cell to form pixel thats why non native resolution on lcd sometimes gets blurry or edgy

This problem started happening about a week ago and I've never had a problem like this before. The problem is that often (but not always) when I start a game, it goes into full screen and it will usually change the resolution like mosts games do, except when I either exit the game normally, or alt+tab out of it, the resolution does not change back to normal. I have my desktop resolution set at 1024x768 normally. This seems to hold true for almost all my games. Even the windows screensaver causes the same problem if it changes the resolution.

After this happens, if I go into display properties and try to change any settings whether it is resolutuon, color depth, or even the refresh rate. I get an error that says it can't be done and I probably don't have administrative rights. The only way to fix it is to reboot the computer.

My graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420. Around when the probelms started I updated the drivers to some beta drivers from the Nvidia site. I assumed those might be the cause so I downgraded to the latest official foreceware drivers which I had installed before. The only other things I can think of that I have installed before the problem occoured was the new Microsoft Anti-spyware but I doubt that would have caused it.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this problem? I am out of ideas...

I just bought an HP Pavillion dv6-7014nr and I love it! Except for one thing. I upgraded to the 1920x1080 screen to get the HD quality and the matte display. Everything on this screen is so tiny, its uncomfortable to read. I have increased the text size in windows to 130% dpi and I have downloaded and extension in Firefox to keep the zoom level I like. My problem is that with this increased DPI setting, the text in programs, such as iTunes gets cut off or overlaps. I was just wondering if there was a solution to this problem, or is it just something I have to live with?
Thanks very much!

A:[SOLVED] 1920x1080 screen resolution on a 15.6" Laptop Screen

1920x1080 doesn't suit everyone on a 15.6" screen as it's really more suited to large-screen external monitors (20" or more). It's big plus of course is that it gives you much more screen space to use for multi-tasking or using apps which have many palettes (like Photoshop). Personally I think 1920x1080 is way too high for the average laptop screen size unless you've got perfect eyesight.

If you don't need all that space, you may find that setting a lower resolution (and changing DPI & zoom levels back to their defaults) is more in line with what your eyesight can deal with. It probably won't look as pin-sharp as the native 1920x1080 resolution though, but at least you shouldn't get some app Windows extending beyond the screen edges.

When I set my resolution to any other res other than the highest possible i get a black outline around my screen due to the resolution not stretching to fit my entire screen. This is fairly recent, as it never used to happen. I'm figuring it might be a driver problem, but I'm not sure. Any help would be great.

Hi SevenUltimate welcome to the forums

I see you have a Geforce 220, I have the 210, the model down from you and have exactly the same issue.

Firstly, yes it's a driver issue. I have had to roll back to 258 edition to get it working properly again.

Take a look at my post about it here: Make Full screen actually look full screen maybe the suggestions will work for you, although they didn't for me.

Failing that, I'm willing to upload the 258 edition drivers to my Skydrive if you want? (mods/admins: please let me know if this is against the rules, don't think it is, but you never know)

Hope it helps

I have just upgraded my HP D530 from Win2000pro to Win XP pro SP2 and everything running perfectly. It's hooked on a LAN and I logged in as a administrator and have done everything including setting the screen resolutions to 1280x1024

However, everytime my user logged in, it will changed to 1024x768 and my user will have to change it back to 1280x1024. Strangely when the PC has been shutdown and on again, it will changed back to 1024x768. But when I logged in as administrator, it has no problem.

Is there something wrong with my setting?

Bit of a long story really, but I think it needs to be said...

My old Samsung SyncMaster 710v 17" TFT stopped working so I got Samsung to replace it with a new one. The new one is exactly the same model, size and everything. My problem is the screen resolution. My old screen was at 1280 x 1024, the new screen won't allow me to go up that far. I used my father's 15" TFT whilst the new one was being delivered, and that only goes up to 1024 x 768 which is normal for a 15" (probably). Now I use the new 17" (exactly the same as the old one - which could go up to 1280 x 1024) and it only goes up to 1024 x 768. Like it has retained the settings for the 15".

My problem is I want 1280 x 1024 not 1024 x 768! So is there anyway I can change the maximum resolution settings in the display panel?

Thank-you in advance.

A:Screen resolution not the same!

You probably just need to install the monitor's driver, so that the make and model of the 17" is shown, also tick the hide modes box.

the actual no. might be 1024 by 768. if the slider only goes to this setting ,do not try to override with the graphics card program it may damage your monitor

When I set the screen resolution to a smaller screen size it returns to the larger size on re-start of the computer. I did the traditional screen setting thing, but it always defaults to the larger size on re-start. Help!!

This is a strange issue that no one has been able to address.

I am running Windows XP w/ Svc Pack 2.
I am using the integrated Video controller - NVIDIA GeForce2
The display is a HP Pavillion mx75.

About 90% of the time whenever I close Mozilla 1.7, my screen goes black for a couple of seconds and then comes back but the display is now set to 800 X 600. I then can go back into the Display properties and reset to whatever setting I prefer and it the system will run fine until the next occurrence.
This will sometimes happen when I open Mozilla, but it usually only happens when the browser is being closed.
I don't recall this happening when I close any other application (i.e. IE, etc.) but I'm not 100% sure either.

One workaround that does seem to work is using ctrl + alt + del and then hitting "end task" on the Mozilla application.

FYI - I use AVG Anti-virus and have run Adaware and Spybot. The problem has been ongoing for a couple of months and I have lived with it until now, but I would like to resolve this if possible.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Kimo77

Right-click "My Computer" and choose "Manage".

Check the Event Viewer --> Application and System for any errors and post them here.
Also...you might want to try Dr. Watson. Click Start-->Run "drwatson" and open Mozilla and close it. See if the Dr. can catch the error. Another thing, download and try Firefox. Does that cause the same problem?

The 3 users of our XP like different screen resolutions. Is there a way we can each save the resolutions of our choice? At present each 1 of us has to change it to the way we want it every time we change users

You can run a freeware program like Multi-Res, and use the scripting that comes with it.
http://www.entechtaiwan.net/util/multires.shtm

If you have XP Pro (I am not 100% sure about XP Home), then you can just use different startup scripts for each user.

Another method is mentioned HERE, at the bottom of the thread, using the "setres" utility and calling it from the user's startup folder.

Hi matster922, and welcome to TSG.

Try right clicking on an unused area of the desktop to get a menu that should let you choose the display controller's control panel. That control panel should then let you set the the correct resolution for your display. If you can not find a suitable resolution, you may have deleted some video controller software during your clearing process. In which case you will need to re-install it.

My question relates to the image resolution:-The screen of this laptop is 'full HD 1080p' which could be called 1KThe graphics card is capable of 4KObviously, when I am viewing an image that originates in 4K, I can only view it in 1K. The computer must downsize the resolution from 4K to 1K.Question 1:-Does the HDMI output give out a 4K signal?Question 2:-If I electronically zoom in to a quarter of the 4K image, does the 17" screen show the image as a 1/4 of 4K (i.e.1K) or as a 1/4 of the 1K image i.e.  960 X 540 pixels. Many thanks

i like to have my screen resolution on the lowest my graphics card can handle which is 1024X768 as it magnifies this on the screen so it is easier to see on my 32" lcd. the downside is that some things are impossible to do as the resolution is too small. to give you an example i have taken a screenshot of a application i have maximized, i should be able to see a few function buttons at the bottom of the application but i can not and there is no way to scroll down. on a higher screen resolution i can see the whole of the application in maximized mode.
is there a way to fix this

A:screen resolution help

Look like it is all there hence nothing to scroll.
