Q: Unable To Update Anti-virus And Unable To Uninstall Apps

Can someone look at my brothers log?! For some reason his computer can't do an anti virus update and when I go to the add/remove tap it won't let me uninstall certain programs. Also, there are some programs in his add/remove tab that seem weird. I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

if you still need help, please do the following:

Open Hijackthis
Click "config"
Click "misc tools"
Click "open uninstall manager"
Click "save list...."
Save the list and post the log.

Click bottom "back" button so you are back at main Hijackthis window.
Click "scan"
When done click "save log..."
Save log someplace and post it here.

Which ones out of the list are you trying to uninstall but will not?

Hello all,I work as a tech support analyst and support user remotely by taking control through Netmeeting. One of the users has been facing an strange issue.Here is the scenario...Whenever he right clicks any file or folder windows installer window comes up and says "preparing for installation..." stays for a while and goes off. It is very annoying as it would stay for at least a minute or two even after canceling it.Usually we get this kind of issues but we would get Installation File path window also and we select the .msi file path of that particular program and install it. That is all...But in this case we are not getting that file path window so that we can select the .msi file path and proceed.The program is Symantec Anti Virus Corporate Edition and OS is Win Xp.I tried uninstalling Symantec but I could not. I tied installing Symantec to overwrite it I could not. I tried to Install Windows Intaller Cleanup Utility but got administrative privileges error. I gave the user account admin privileges but did not succeed. I resized my HD partitions and just generally jiggered around moving and deleting files. WELL!!! After that I couldn't get NAV to run, nor would it unistall, nor remove so I just deleted all the NAV files I could find. I'm now trying to install Norton Sysytem Works but it tells me it can't install the anti virus because a previous copy is installed. I've tried Reg Cleaner and deleted all the NAV in there but there must still be something somewhere. Any help please.

Do you have any of the NAV services running in the systray? Do an alt+ctrl+del and see if ant services are running there too. If they are, highlight them nad select end task

For the last few weeks, I (my daughter) has been unable to update her anti-virus program which was AVG Free. She told me of the issue about a week ago and I have been working on it since. She recently moved her computer in her room and didn't really notice that the wireless reception was poor. She needed to adjsut her antennae (802.11n). Unfortunatetly, her automatic updates were failing so her AVG was about 2 weeks out of date.

When I tried to update AVG, I would get a message indicating that update computer was unavailable. I searched the AVG website and found what looked like a solution but it did not work. I tried to download a new version of AVG and install it knowing that it would be the most update. This was unscessful. I unistalled AVG and installed Avast Anti-Virus program. I was also unable to update Avast with an 'update package broken' message.

I next trid SpyBot Search and Destroy (Free). It found a few things as did Avast as the scan ran but it did not fixe the issue.

I next ran MalwareByte Malware product. In the past, this has been successful but this time not so much.

I next ran the Avira boot disk. This was the first time I had used the product. It found no threats.

I next ran Hijack This and this is where I'm at. I uploaded the log file to TrendSecure. I am assuming that you can access it there.

I pop onto the computer this morning, and I am unable to download the update from the website, or connect via AVG to get the update.
I was wondering if this is an issue others have been expierencing, or if there is perhaps a problem on my end of things.

My computer was running fine last night before I logged of.

This was a nasty virus. I would attempt to run windows update but it would give me an error code and told me to check my connection. Norton would not update. Most free AV I could download but not update. When I would do any search on Google or MSN, it would redirect. It would also give me a google page does not exist if I went to a windows download update sit. After 2 days of working on this issue and using every AV I could find, I stumbled across a google group addressing this problem. It said to access this website, http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Trojan-Remover.shtml This trojan was nasty but the program took about 5 minutes and cleared it. I didn't even have to go into safe mode. If your having this same issue, give this a shot before reinstalling anything, Hope it helps.

I noticed on Tuesday that my Norton Anti Virus was not able to connect to Live Update.,aloso couldn't run live updates for Spyware Doctor. I was also being blocked from random websites.I;m running XP and Nortin 2005 Anti virus. After some searching around I discovered 000080>exe as well as ahuin.exe an STflex IE Helper. After deleteing these I was able to connect to previously blocked sites but still no Live update for Norton or Spyware Doctor.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Enlcosed is my Hijack this log.

When I try to do windows update it just keeps saying searching for update, even if I leave it scanning for a day and a half, and if I try to do a Norton anti-virus patch application the computer says applying patch application for up to a day, by then I'm tiered of waiting, and I end up having to turn it off manually because I can't even get Ctrl, Alt, Delete to work. Someone, not from this site, tried to help me and said I had a virus called the Zeus Trojan and wanted to charge me money to fix it, but I don't know if  I believe them, cause they just called me up out of the blue and said I had it after doing one scan, and I not even sure how much I can trust them. Unlike bleeping computer I have experience working with all of you, and I trust your work.

I had the McAffee anti-virus, but I got the dreaded Vista blue screen of death, so i removed McAffee and that fixed the blue screen. About a week ago I noticed that I would constantly be redirected to other websites after entering website addresses in. I attempted to use a trial Kapersky, but I could not get updates needed or updates for Window defender.

I know realize there is a virus and I can't seem to use an anti-virus since I can' get updates and they won't let me run scans. I have ad-aware, but that hasn't show any viruses or trojans. Any help would be wonderful.

A:Unable to update Anti-virus definitions/Webpage redirect

I ran Malwarebytes and this seem to have removed the DNS changer virus or trojan that was causing constant internet redirects and stopping me from updating anti-virus definitions.

I did an Ad-Aware full scan and a Kapersky full scan and it came back clean.

Hi,

I am unable to update any spyware/anti-virus programs. They all fail to connect as though i was not connected to internet. I can access internet just fine. I am able to connect to any website. I am not redirected anywhere. I have run Malwarebytes and super anti-spyware. Malwarebytes found several infections and i was able to delete.

Recently I downloaded an extranet dialer to connect to the intranet at work from my home pc; however, there was a problem with the installation now I am unable to uninstall. After this I was receiving annoying Norton pop ups telling me that the pc was at risk there was no active firewall I disabled the pop up notify option in security center however the pop ups continued. When I tried a system scan Norton made me update definitions then generated an error stating to uninstall and reinstall Norton. So I uninstall/reinstall Norton Antivirus but encounter an error installing, then pop up states installation failed. Also now I am getting MIM error pop up with music match icon in the pop up.

I have ran lavasoft's adaware and it found 92 critical items, but didn't take any action on them. Instead I have ran haxfix.exe and hjthis below are the logs. Please help.

This Windows 7 32 bit PC will not run or install anything downloaded from any browser and MSE will not launch, I can't uninstall it and everything in its directory is locked and even as Administrator i cannot change the permissions. Hello, I am working for a company where we're trying to rollout some new Tablets with Windows 10; as these tablets are to be used with specific tasks in mind and potentially across multiple profiles, it would be ideal if majority of the Apps were removed PC wide. We already have it set in the group policy to disable the App Store and Cortana, and I have found many options online for running PowerShell scripts to remove the apps (Eg. Gett-AppxPackage *zune* | Remove-AppxPackage ) but when I attempt to add the -allusers portion to the code, it continues to only make the changes to the immediate profile. I have tried running this from the admin profile, and a secondary profile (running PowerShell as admin of course) but it continues to only make the change on the current profile, and the changes do not carry over to newly created profiles.

Any suggestions at all would be appreciated, as I am running out of options to try online. If you require any more information to help troubleshoot this, just let me know.

domain admin accounts are unable to uninstall applications on win7 machines using the following method:

On a machine that is logged in by a domain user

1.) runas CMD with the domain admin account
2.) type appwiz.cpl
3.) select app and uninstall

error: you must be an administrator to remove this applicaton

the account can remove apps when it is logged in as itself, but not from runas.

any ideas?

Whatever I do to update java 6.0.18 to 6.0.20, I get the same error code:
"1606, could not find network location :. " (It is a stand alone computer, and no network installation.)
I get this message with online update by jucheck
I get it with online update with jxpiinstall.exe
It get it with the offline installer : jre-6u20-windows-i586-s.exe

And even more comprehensible, I get this error message if I try to uninstall Javan6.0.18
(I thought I make a clean installation after, but that is impossible too.)
the update from 6.017 to 6.018 went easy without any manual handling required.

I use: Vista sp2, on a Acer Aspire 5810T

Hello, I consider myself a fairly advanced computer user, but I'm having an issue I'm 99% sure is MalWare related. My laptop freezes CONSTANTLY, sometimes out of nowhere, and sometimes when I walk away for 5 minutes. I have tried numerous times to run AVG, Ad-Aware SE, and both freeze shortly after the scan starts (also tried in SAFE MODE). Now sometimes I can browse the we for hours, but as soon as a start a scan, install, or update, these issues are more common. I am fairly confident that this is not a hardware issue, since I've ran advanced diagnostics on them all, including BIOS. I have a HiJack This Log, and help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey guys ... I've searched the forums and done just about everything that I can do so far to no avail and am at my wits end with this thing.So yesterday for no reason, FireFox just decides to close. Fine, no big deal, but then I relaunched and it did it AGAIN a few minutes later. Then I got the lovely Microsoft Security Essentials error message saying that I had a Trojan in Unknown Win32. Of course, I knew that was a fake, so I tried running my Spybot S&D, but it wouldn't load. Double-click, hourglass, nothing. Suddenly, I wasn't able to launch any anti-anything software, wasn't able to get to my regedit, task manager, nor launch a browser. Eventually, in safe mode, I located the Hotfix. exe, removed it, and the error message went away.However, I'm still unable to launch ANY anti-spyware/malware/virus software. In safe mode, I did actually download, register, and install StopZilla, which found 48 objects and removed them. I rebooted and ... yeah, same thing. Currently looking into getting a refund for that piece of fun.Spybot S&D loads in my systray and does the TeaTimer real time thing that it does, but I can't RUN it for scanning. Also, I have the installer for SuperAntiSpyware, but the nifty Double-Click, Hourglass, Done trick happens when I try to launch that for installation in safe mode OR out of it.In FireFox, I'll find a result for something that looks promising, click on it, and suddenly I'll be presented with another website ... I'm trying to update my current genuine Windows 8.1 home to Windows 10. Unfortunately it fails no matter what method I use. I've tried everything. I think it's due to the fact that my windows apps are broken. Same goes for windows store and pc settings. Upon clicking any of the above I get an icon in the taskbar but clicking on it does not reveal any window. Also live update for the tiles associated with apps does not work.

I've tried already :

1. Automatic repair of windows store and apps with a dedicated microsoft app. Output : "Can't find ms-windows-store:PurgeCaches"

2. Using automatic registry repair tool called Wise Registry cleaner. Rebooted, nothing changed.

3. Ran 'regedit' and tried to access HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppModel\Repository\Packages
Unfortunately, folders 'Repository' and 'Packages' did not exist. Author of the troubleshooting guide available here [FIX] Error "ms-windows-store:PurgeCaches" While Resetting App Cache In Windows 8, 8.1 encouraged readers in comments to create these directories if they don't exist. I did so and established the proper permissions.

4. Accessed command prompt as administrator and typed the following chunk of code :

I am supporting a Windows XP SP2 PC and have the error "the installation source for this product is not available. Please verify that the source exists and that you can access it".

What do I need to do to repair the Windows Installer associations for the sources, without using the Installer Cleanup Utility to uninstall everything and reinstall everything?

Is there anything that can be done short of that?

Hi all,

I am struggling to install 'Remote Server Administration Tools' on my Win 7, 64 bit Enterprise version.
I have managed to install KB958830 and when I try to enable 'RSAT' from 'Control Panel\Turn Windows features on or off' I get a message 'An error has occurred. Not all of the features were successfully changed'. So, I decided to uninstall KB958830 (RSAT) from the windows update but I get the message 'An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled'. It doesn't give me any clue where the problem lies! Any help would be much appreciated!

A:Unable to uninstall win update KB958830

Try uninstall it manually.
1.Create both folders i.e C:\Temp and C:\Sandbox
2.Download RSAT if you don't have and place it in C:\Temp
3.Run cmd.exe with elevated previlliges and type following commands:

cd /d C:\Temp
expand -f:* <full hotfix name>.msu C:\Temp
start /w pkgmgr /m:C:\Temp\<full hotfix name>.cab /up /s:C:\Sandbox

i.e for 64bit these commands would be:

cd /d C:\Temp
expand -f:* amd64fre_GRMRSATX_MSU.msu C:\Temp
start /w pkgmgr /m:C:\Temp\amd64fre_GRMRSATX_MSU.cab /up /s:C:\Sandbox

If it fail too run sfc /scannow command,run Readiness Tool Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2

ans next attache to post all *.log files from C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder

I recently installed the Anniversary Update and I tested some apps to see if they work. I tried to open Wifi Analyzer and it immediately crashes after opening. After trying to open it multiple times I decided to reinstall. I uninstalled it but my internet went down so I wasn't able to connect to the store. Then I revert to the previous build 10586.545 for personal reasons.

The All Apps list somehow has that app on the list. I couldn't open it and it wouldn't let me uninstall. Once I got internet I went to the store and it says it is installed, but there is no open button.

Hi there,

At a loss as to what to do now I have a very regularly BSODing laptop, which looks to be down to the installation of KB2670838.

I initially uninstalled a series of windows updates following the sudden onset of BSODs, but it failed to uninstall KB2670838, and after lots of reading, this seems likely to be the cause of the issues.


I'm not so much worried about the BSODs - given the apparent cause documented all over the place -however, what worries / frustrates me is that I can't uninstall KB2670838, with the errror "An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled." After scouring google, I have got nowhere in resolving the problem.

I have tried System Update Readiness tool, but this comes back with no errors:

Hello and welcome leplop find the date of the update and system restore to before that.

Now in the system restore it might not give you many dates but be patient and do what is in mt pic.

I am assuming that you know where system restore is - sorry but a lot of folks don't

Once you get back to before that point update in bits leaving out that particular one.

Tip never a good idea to download and install updates in large batches

Hi! I am unable to update malwarebytes and superantivirus, I can't even access their websites to install the updates manually besides that I don't see anuthing bad here in my PC I tried to scan with malwarebytes w/o updates but nothing was found. My issue seems almost the same as the other thread here that MAS_POGI was attending to (unable to install anti-virus). I hope someone can help me on this.

None of the anti-malware programs I have will update and in many cases I am being redirected when I try to access their websites or I get an unable to connect message. Occasionally I get fake alert pop-ups (windows has detected a system infection run anti-spyware now etc.) tomorrow I am going to transfer an updated version of MBAM from another computer and run that to see if it turns up anything. Right now all my programs say nothing is found but they haven't been updated in weeks due to this problem, I am at the end of my knowledge so any advice at all is greatly appreciated. While downloading tool to help me download video, VLC was downloaded to my computer. When I go to Add/remove its not there. I think a virus is on my computer because when I try to load task manager I get an error message that says task-manger is not a valid windows image and that I need this against my installation disket.

Hi,

Since starting to run Windows 8.1 a couple of weeks ago I have been unable to open iTunes, Getting the messages. 'The program can't start because MediaToolbox.dll is missing form your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem' & 'iTunes was not installed properly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126)'.

When I try to uninstall iTunes I get this message 'The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes6464.msi in the box below'

I have no idea what to do to resolve either problem. I'm not very technical so very simple language would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried SO many threads and techniques to fix this, but I'm unable to, this has been a VERY deep rabbit hole I've traversed and can't find my way back out.

Let's start at the beginning...

I stopped auto installing updates because I had issues with doing so in the past, so my windows updates stacked up for a bit. (I know, I suck!)

I started installing them all last month and found 4 that would not install, a couple of them seem to be serious and my friend recommend I get them fixed.

I've run sfc /scannow it NOW shows no validation errors. But there were errors the first time.Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Hey all,

So I had an email go out to all my contacts from one of my emails titled "my girlfriend's video.." The email had a video, and a messaging saying the video was very exciting and they should take a look. Naturally, I went to run my anti-virus (Anti-vir) and spyware protector (Ad-Aware). When I went to update Ad-Aware, it told me that I wasn't connected to the internet. I tried to uninstall Ad-Aware, and re-install, but it would not allow me to uninstall or manually delete. (no process for it running in task manager) Virus scan was ok, and the non-updated ad-aware I ran came up with 1 object that it deleted. Am I ok now, or should I be looking deeper?

Windows is giving several error messages wanting me to download the XP Security Center software. The errors keep opening up the XP Security Center and running a scan which finds trojans and other stuff. Tried to download and run AVG and Spybot, but neither will run. Spybot installed, but AVG would error out before install was complete. Tried to run HiJack This and it will not run either. At this point I can't really think of anything else to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, first post here. I've got a really annoying problem on my hands. I'll try to keep this short and concise.

I have what I believe to be a spyware problem. It has gotten to the point where my internet's being affected by spyware. My internet is now noticeably slower, and one of three things will happen whenever I try to visit any page:

1) I will connect to the page
2) The page will fail to load ("Unable to connect")
3) If I am clicking on a link through a google search, first I will be directed to a completely different site, where then I will click on back and then the link again, and it will do either 1) or 2).

The really annoying part comes when I try to update my anti-spyware: Both Ad-Aware and Trend Micro (Housecall) both fail to update as a result of internet connectivity. AVG states that it's fully updated, but since it hasn't found anything, I'm having doubts.

I haven't installed anything in-between when my internet was fine, and when I first noticed these problems, as far as I know. I'm using Vista Ultimate, with Service Pack 2.

If anyone can help me, please do. If you need additional information, I would be happy to provide it. I HAVE asked for help elsewhere, but I never received any. So please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have something on my computer that is doing some pretty nasty things. I started noticing things when it started redirecting my Google searches. I tried to run Malware Bytes and ComboFix but whatever I have shuts them down after a few seconds and then refuses to let me open them again. Microsoft Security Essentials can no longer be activated and I am getting odd prompts from my Firewall asking to unblock certain programs that were, previously, standard issue.

I have even tried running malware removal in safe mode and can't get anything to work.

Please help.

Hello,
I play a lot of PC games, and in one particular game, I have been having a graphical glitch. This is apparently related to the Windows KB2670838 update, and many people on various forums have solved the problem by removing this update.
I first tried removing the update from 'Programs and Features -> Installed updates', but get an error 0x80073701 'referenced assembly not found'.
Instead I tried to uninstall using the command prompt 'wusu', then tried again in safe mode, and even tried uninstalling IE10, the apparent cause for this update in the first place.
None of these attempts have succeeded for one reason or another, and I wondered if anyone has any help?

when you ran wusa /uninstall /kb:2670838 did you run it inside an Elevated Command Prompt ?

Open up an Elevated Command Prompt. Click on in type CMD . Right click on CMD under Programs (1) choose . On the User Access Control window click on the Yes button . Command Prompt opens up to C:\Windows\System32>_

then type

wusa /uninstall /kb:2670838 and press <ENTER>

When I try to uninstall my old version of Java via Add/Remove programs it uninstalls all the way through, but at the last moment comes with the following message: Internal error 2330 . 23 C:/programs files/java/jre1.5.0_02/bin/client.

I cannot find anything about this on the web? Do you have any suggestions?

Thats a Windows Installer error.

"Internal Error 2330: Error getting file attributes: [3] GetLastError: [2]"

Which version of Windows Installer do you have?

You can go into C:\Program Files\Java and delete that folder. It will delete the software from your computer as long as its not running.

Then if you download the latest update 10.. jre 1.5.0_10, it will overwrite the necessary keys and you should be fine.

Latest Java Runtime Environment: J2SE(TM) Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10 has been released
Latest Flash version (if you don't yet have it): Flash 9.0.28.0 has been released
