Q: Product Information not valid - Product Configuration ID mis...

Hi! Ich bought a HP ProBook 6550b a few days back. On the first start of the notebook I got the following message:Product Information not validThe following product information programmed into the system board is missing or invalidProduct Configuration ID I already updated to the latest Bios version, but this did not solve the problem. I searched Google and Youtube and found a tool (NbDmiFit ) that HP provides. Unfortunately I think, that the tool does not support my motherboard. I tried the batchfile "NbDmiFit.bat", which should find the correct exe-File for setting the missing value, but that didn't work. After that I tried every single exe-file, but I was not able to set the Product Configuration ID successful. Does anyone know, which exe-file or which tool one needs for setting the Product Configuration ID on a HP ProBook 6550b? I also discovered a further possible solution with WinFlash. Unfortunately I don't know, which command is necessary for setting the Product Configuration ID. Maybe someone can help with that: Usage: WinFlash64.exe [COMMAND]dat string Specify the asset tag DMI string.dmc string Specify the chassis manufacturer DMI string.dmm string Specify the motherboard manufacturer DMI string.dks string Specify the SKU number DMI string.dms string Specify the system manufacturer DMI string.dos [string;string2;...]|[index1 string1 ...] Specify the OEM DMI strings.dpc string Specify the chassis asset tag number DMI string.dpm string Specify the motherboard product ID DMI string.dps string Specify the system product ID DMI string.dsc string Specify the chassis serial number DMI string.dsm string Specify the motherboard serial number DMI string.dss string Specify the system serial number DMI string.dus [uuid] Specify the UUID DMI string.dvc string Specify the chassis version DMI string.dvm string Specify the motherboard version DMI string.dvs string Specify the system version DMI string. Thank you in advance!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I work in tech support for a company and one of our enterprise laptops mysteriously has lost its "tattooed" information.  The user who had this laptop left the company and when we went to wipe it we discovered this issue.  Upon starting the machine the HP splash screen has in red text on the top left of the screen "Manufactoring Program Mode set 1 of 10" after the splash screen a "Product Information not Valid" screen appears.  It reads: Product Information not validThe following product information programmed into the system board is missing or invalidSYSTEM BOARD (00A)Product Name Product Serial NumberProduct SKUProduct FamilySystem Board CT NumberENTER - Continue Startup For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup I know that there is an HP utility tool to "tattoo" this information back onto the machine.  As an enterprise that uses 95% HP equipment (our monitors, mouse, keyboards are the only non-HP equipment) I think that the tech support deserves these types of tools to troubleshoot issues.  Sure the machine boots normally if you hit enter, but it's alarming/scandalous to be presented with that product information not valid screen when powering on a machine.  Bonus points to whoever can provide some reasoning as to how this occurred.

I just received my HP Pavilion dv7-3173nr laptop a couple days ago.  The HP Support Assistant performed a bunch of updates, and now I receive the following error msg every time it boots up: Product Information Not ValidThe following product information programmed into the system board is missing or invalid.System Board (00A)  - Product Name, Configuration, serial number, product numberEnter - Continue Startup For more information please visit hp.com/go/techcenter/startup  Well, there is no information at that location.  After reading through several off site boards, I find this is a common problem with HP and that the recommended action is to use a HP DMI editor tool to rewrite the information on the mother board.  I am NOT an advanced user and have NO idea how to do this.  I called HP, and after two hours all they can say is send it end.  I dont think so.  If anything I'll return the darn thing and by a Dell next time.   Anyone here have any ideas on how to repair this thing?

I received the same computer and after using for a couple of days received the same message.  Called HP and they said infomration was loaded in the factory.  They said the only solution was to sent computer back.  They also said I was one in a million this rarely ever happens.  I decided to send the computer back to where I bought it and get a replacement.  I received my new computer on Wednesday and by Friday 6/25/10 I received the same message: Product information not valid. Called HP and was told again to send it back that I was one in a million that this happens to.  Told them that is not humanely possible.   I told them they are selling defective computers and I will send it back and buy a Dell.  I have searched the net and so far have not found a solution.  If you find help please let me know. Otherwise this computer is going back on Monday.

Hello @evgeniusx,  This is a branding issue. Usually occurs when the system board is being replaced and serial number was not entered, or was entered incorrectly . There is a specific tool which is used to commit and lock the system board once replaced  Changing and committing information at this level requires the system to be unlocked for reprogramming with a digitally signed System Management Command (SMC) file.  This is unique to each system UUID, and is generated at the time of need by HP Service Without that file, the information can't be reprogrammed and not publicly available. Request you to contact HP support in your country and arrange for Service again ,depending on your unit warranty and service regulations , this will be resolved by rebranding the machine. Contact HP Verify the warranty status here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/checkwarranty     Read this Document : https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01443496      Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again !!  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

Hi all, I have an EliteBook 8560p with dedicated GPU that's giving me two kinds of trouble lately. First thing that occured was that the screen of my notebook remained black on startup. I could hear the windows startupsounds, though. So, it boots, but without video. Without success, i tried docking it to a Docking Station or changing the RAM modules. It does that in about 50%  of all boot procedures. A few days after this first occured, the computer came up with a message "product information not valid". As a consequence of that, my Windows 7 installation fails to validate and thinks it's a non-genuine copy. Can anyone out there help me with this issue? I really need this NB, and even reinstall won't fix this, as long as the Hardware-Information is not being set. Thanks in advanceSebi

I purchased a copy of Windows 7 from eBay and it came with a Product Key label. The disk doesn't say that it is the Service Pack 1 level, so I assume that it is the original version. I decided to bypass all of the updating that would be required to bring the original version up to the SP1 level by just downloading an ISO of Windows 7 SP1 from the Microsoft web site. Part of the process for doing this is to enter the Product Key so that Microsoft can verify that the key is valid. I entered the key and clicked VERIFY. I got a message that this key was not valid for this product. The FAQ stated that the key would not be valid for an OEM, Enterprise, etc. version of the program. This leads me to ask two questions:

1) If I have a valid Product Key for Windows 7 64-bit, why would it not be valid for the SP1 version; it's just the latest version of the original OS?

2) If I go ahead and install the original version of the OS from the disk that I have, will I be able to receive the SP1 update when I have installed all updates up to that point? (Or is SP1 just a compilation of the original OS and all of the updates that were issued before MS released SP1?)

Thanks in advance.

These are questions/situations for a Microsoft rep, IMO.  Nothing anyone can tell you here at BC...is likely to be as valid as a simple phone conversation with an authorized rep of MS, charged with doing license activation..

A simple phone call would result in answers within a 15-minute block of time, IMO.

I have a Acer Aspire T620 desktop PC, recently I had to reinstall XP Pro (which came with the computer when I brought it) as it was hit by the \windows\system32\config\system... missing or corrupt problem.

I have lost my Acer recovery CD, luckily I have my MSDN subscription DVDs so I have a copy of Win XP Pro. I began re-installing when I was asked to enter my product key. I have a COA sticker on my computer?s case, however after entering the key XP reports the product key as invalid! I had brought my computer from an authorized Acer reseller and the COA looks authentic! I have restored my computer I few times using the recovery CD but using the recovery CD I don?t think I was required to enter the product key.

Can anyone tell me is it possible to restore my PC without the original recovery CD? I thought you can use any XP Pro CD to install as long as the product key is valid? Also, why is my product key not valid? If it is not valid then what key was I using before? As I brought a new hard drive to install Windows XP, my original hard drive with the corrupted Windows XP still works, is it possible to retrieve the original product key and use that key again?

Thanks

Gavin

I have read some threads about people buying Windows 7 product keys on ebay and they are prob no good. I bought 2 product keys for Windows Ultimate 7, but didn't buy them off ebay. But how can I find out if my keys are good keys? After I bought the keys I was given a link to what I think was msdn site to choose my language, and my product That I bought the keys for and I used easymule to download the Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit iso. Before I go through the trouble of formatting my drive and installing Windows Ultimate 7 I was wondering how to tell if these keys are valid and make Windows 7 Ultimate a good copy and get updates. But I dont want to post the keys here if they are good because I paid for them to use and dont want someone to use them before I could activate them.Bryant

A:How to know if My product key is a valid key

If you bought only the keys without Windows 7 media there's a good chance they were illegally sold to you. The only way to know if the keys work is to install Windows 7 and try activating it. Also, be careful when downloading pirated copies of Windows (emule) as many contain viruses, malware, trogans, keyloggers, etc. Windows - Is It Genuine http://www.microsoft.com/genuine Microsoft - Piracy http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/default.aspx

I have a valid version of XP Pro installed on my machine. Today I am reinstalling windows to start fresh and it will not accept my product key. The CD i am installing it with is a burned version of XP but the key is valid and on a sticker on the side of my machine. How can i get it to accept the key? I have no job and forking out 100$ for a new OS key is not an option for me. :'(

A while back I moved my Gateway machine from Vista Home Premium x32 to Win 7 Home Premium x64.
The Win 7 OS was purchased from a well known software distribution outlet to save money, and was a Dell OEM x64 bit version.
The clean install went Ok, but the product key included with the disc would not validate. I called the vendor and they provided a new product key, which did validate.
About seven months went by with no problems, then after the second to last MS update, I received an error after booting stating my copy of windows was not valid.

Again I contacted the vender, and they supplied a third product key, but told me I might have to validate by phone. This didn't work, the third key they had given me was an invalid key as well!
I ended up with MS tech support and after forty five minutes later and granting them control of my PC, the tech provided a working product key, but was reluctant to give me the key!
If I call the vender, I'm sure they will supply another key, but now I'm using a MS supplied key that I don't have access to. What do I do now?
Thanks for any advice!

A:Product Key Not Valid

Download and install Belarc. It carries out a full audit of your system and displays the results in a web page format.

The information should also include the product keys and serial numbers for any software you have installed.

At least now Microsoft can't refuse to validate an operating system that THEY provided the product key for.

My brother in law gave my dad his old PC with a legitimate version of Windows XP Home on it. However, when I tried to download Windows Defender for my dad, WGA said it was not a valid product key.

Unfortunately, I did not have time to investigate why the key was not valid or try rectifying it, but I wondered if he should not go online until I or my brother in law get chance to sort out the problem.

I have looked on the microsoft and MGA websites to see if this is a problem and they state that if the product key is not valid then you will not be able to download certain software and updates, however critical updates can still be downloaded. They also state that when going through the validating process no details of name, address or email address are taken.

I was concerned though, because I had heard that if you run what microsoft deems a non valid version of XP then your operating system can be blocked. I looked on this forum and one person said it is not a problem as he has been using the same product key on three PC's (therefore not valid) for years and has never had a problem. Someone else on this forum said that you can get blocked with a non valid key, but it may be within 2 weeks, a month or even after a year.

Does it depend on the reason why your product key is not valid whether you become blocked? (For example, blocked VLK or keygen created as opposed to multiple users.)

I bought Windows 7 Home Premium from Fry's Electronic years ago. But never have a chance to install it. Now my XP is not working and bought a new hard drive and tried to install it. It finally said "product key is invalid".
