I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For reasons I don't entirely understand, import/export to and from email programs is pretty much in the stone age. It just has not improved much over the years.

It rarely works without errors or omissions. In my experience, address books are particularly difficult. You might have to re-enter your addresses by hand if you have them in some form where you can at least read them.

A:Saving,export/import

There should be only 2 actual files on your hard drive (1-address book and 1-backup address book). I think what you would have to do if you want a copy in My Documents or in any other folder is what you said in your title: Export it. To keep it updated, do it whenever you add a name.

OE->File->Export. Follow the wizard from there.

Maybe what you are wondering about is simply a shortcut sitting in My Documents? If you click Start->Programs->Accessories. You should have a shortcut to your address book there. Just create a duplicate shortcut in My Documents if that is what you want.

A friend has just set up a new system in Win2000 using OE6.

He has several message folders in OE6 on his old machine running Win98.

How does he transfer the desired message folders to the new machine? I have tried to do this without success. Microsoft seems to have made this operation very difficult. I have done this procedure often with Netscape message folders and it is relatively simple.

I can find the Outlook Express dbx files associated with the desired folders on the Win98 machine but how do I get their contents to the new computer???

A:Export/Import of OE folders

emails in folders
you need to recreate the folders on the new PC
then transfer the .dbx files
caution: it will replace any existing .dbx files of the same name

so obviously if you have email in the inbox and you replace it with the old inbox.dbx - the new ones are toast

at this point (already using OE on the new PC) i'd transfer the old ones to a new folder - 'transfer', which will create transfer.dbx on the old PC
copy it to floppy

then create a 'transfer' folder in the new PC
close OE
then transfer the old transfer.dbx to the new machine

see tomsterdam's OE site for more - and the use of OE BackUp to do the same thing, including importing the address book

it's easier to do it all at once with OE BackUp before you start using OE on a new PC, but the manual way works fine too

note: remember the default security setting in OE6 which disables viewing/receiving attachments
- go to the tools, options, security tab and uncheck the box if that's what you want

I've just done a full re-installation of Windows ME on my PC, to overcome deteriorating performance. I backed up data and restored it OK. However, I backed up the Outlook Express 6.0 messages by doing an Outlook Express export into several files, and copying those files back onto the new PC (I suspect now that I should have simply copied the files themselves in Explorer, rather than exporting them).

I have tried to import the messages from these exported files into my now empty Outlook folders. I chose to import from an OE6 Identity, and selected the folder where the files are; the files are all named after the Outlook folders, and have type DBX. The import function shows me the files listed as folders. I select one of them, and the import claims to be successful, but no messages are imported.

I have also tried simply replacing the new empty files with the backed up DBX files, but although Outlook allows me to view these folders, it shows them as empty.

Does anyone know how I can rescue the messages from the exported files?

Is there a way to import or export IE settings so that I can compare my settings with those of my colleague?

I have a web application that lets users click on a link to view a zipped folder, which resides in a database. My colleague clicks the link and he is taken to another page, where a Save As dialog appears, allowing his to open or save the zipped folder, or cancel the action. However, when I try it, the new page opens briefly, then closes again without showing the dialog.

I need to know what settings are different without having to go through each setting one by one.

A:Import export IE settings

The only "Settings" you can import or export are Cookies, Favorites and Feeds. You could take screen shots of your settings but you'll need quite a few such as 2-3 just for "Advanced".

I had to perform a system recovery on my laptop so I exported all my email to my external hard drive. I certainly selected the option to export ALL files. Having set up the laptop again I went to import my emails back and there are only a handful there. What happened to the other hundreds? I presume they are lost forever unless someone can suggest a lifeline. I suppose I should have checked the exported files before I wiped the laptop.

I've seen a few threads discussing similar problems. Why does the export function not work properly?

Hi there

I am currently working on a project which involves using an ident which I have created within After Effects. However, when I go to import this ident video file back into After Effects again, it says that the file format is not supported.

I have tried exporting the ident again in a AVI format but this only displays a grey box. Why can After Effects export mpeg4 files just fine but then not be able to import them back in? Is there a workaround or update which I am missing which fixes this "problem"?

Cheers

Andrew.

A:After Effects CS3 - Can export MP4 files but not import??

Differing support for import formats vs. export formats is quite common for a couple of reasons. Wisely you went to avi but was it DV-AVI? Other codecs used in avi production may also not be compatible for re-importing but DV should be.

Then tried to Import my favorites I had backed up on floppy - nothing. As soon as I get to the backed-up file and press Save, I get sent back to the start of Wizard. I also learned I now can't Export favorites either, I CAN get as far as saving them to a file on HD, but when I check the newly saved favorites back-up folder it is empty. Norton verified I was virus free, so thats ruled out. Also, prior to this I was using Internet Explorer 5 (or 5.5), no problem. Perhaps I should uninstall IE6? Will doing so revert me back to IE5? How to export Non-Administrators Local Group Policy and import on another PC?

All articles for exporting local GPO say to copy the C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy and C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicyUsers folder to another PC however that only works for changes done to the "Local Computer" or "User" (if you
alter the SIDs to match), respectively. It doesn't work to import Non-Admin Local GPO.
There are several requests for this you can find when searching and no solutions provided.

A:How to Export Non-Administrators Local GPO for import on a different PC

I'll have to test with that. However, I did manage to make it work on my own.
What I found is that this Non-Administrator's GPO is saved in the c:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicyUsers\S-1-5-32-545 folder but the S-1-5-32-545 folder doesn't always seem to generate automatically (yes, I had viewing hidden and system files enabled).

An easy way to force the folder to appear is to go to the Windows Settings\Scripts\Logon policy of the non-admin GPO and select to add a script. Then click the Show Files button at the bottom of the Logon Properties window.
A folder named S-1-5-32-545 will appear with a User folder in it and a registry.pol file in it. Copy the entire SID folder to the new PC.

Hey Rainman,

Is there a folder on the PDC in C:\WINNT\System32\Repl\Export called "Scripts"?

If the path name is incorrect then that could be causing a failure to replicate.

Otherwise, is there a specific error you're receiving?

Hey

Now I've tried to import my custom emoticons from MSN Live Messenger so many times that I've given up and now I need some help.

I've gotten a new email and just want my custom emoticons to the new email but it's not that easy as I've read.

I have Vista Home Premium, just to start out. I do know where you find the emoticons: Local Disc -> Users -> (my user) -> AppData -> Local -> Microsoft -> Messenger -> (my email) -> Object Store -> CustomEmoticons

I looked at an answer in here and several other places where you are told to copy the CustomEmoticons into the same folder just in the new email's folder. I did that and it didn't work at all. The wierd thing is just if you try to add a custom emoticon and uses a name from one of the custom emoticons I've tried to export it says that the name is already in use. You know, like it actually is there but you can't see it.

I'm really desperate, I've tried so many import/export programmes with no result and I simply refuse to transfer more than 200 emoticons manually like I've done so many times before. Hope anyone can answer.
