I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad U300s which has died, and of course I don't have current backups. I figure the SSD still has my data, and thought I'd just pull the SSD and read it on another computer, but I don't know what kind of adaptor I need to use. The SSD isn't in a typical hard drive case, it looks more like a memory card with a series of chips, but instead of edge connectors that go into a bus slot, it has a connector to a ribbon cable on one end. You can see a picture on page 58 of the hardware manual: https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_%20u300_u300s_u400_hmm_1st_edition_oct_2011... Does anyone have any hints on how I could read this data? Feel free to chastize me for not making backups :-)

Hi there. Your computer uses a Mini PCIe SSD. If you want to retrieve your data, you will need to buy a Mini PCIe SSD adapter to USB. There are many options for such on Amazon, eBay, etc.

Does anybody have any idea where to purchase a replacement SSD for a U300s? Have not seen any other laptop using this type of a connector. Any help is appreciated.

A:U300s- SSD

hi gr8bear,

Upon looking the U300s' specs, it uses a 7mm, 2.5in SATA HDD. You will need to get a 7mm, 2.5in SATA SSD for the upgrade like this one:

Vector - 7mm Low Profile SATA 3 2.5" SSD

Edit:
My bad, this is for the U300 not the U300s.

Not guaranteed to be working at your SSD, but worth to try. Please do this method on your own risk.  A few weeks ago my U300S ssd was half dead.Started with constant 100% disk usage and slow performance, then suddenly Windows fell into BSOD. I tried to restore and clean install Windows several time without any success; unable to format the ssd (somehow it was hard-locked).I came into conclusion that this poor thing was gone completely, so i should build a custom made M.2 ssd adapter. Look here: Custom U300S SSD adapterBefore this ssd is completely dismantled, i tried to BAKE it first. Nothing to lose anyway.(I had several good experiences with dead VGA and it worked nicely after i baked it.)The idea is similar with reflow, without any special tools. Do this simple steps.1. Take the ssd out from the laptop. 2. Unwrap the aluminium foil completely.3. Clean the ssd with isopropyl alcohol thoroughly. Make sure no glue or dirt or impurities on the ssd chip/pcb.4. Prepare the OVEN, pre-heat with temperature around 220 Celcius. Electric or Gas oven just the same.5. Use aluminium balls  or cup as support. Do not put SSD directly on the pan !! (see picture below)6. Put SSD into hot oven, let it baked for 8-9 minutes. And then turn the oven off.7. Open the oven door a little bit, let it cool down slowly for around 30 minutes.8. Re-wrap the SSD with aluminium foil and try it on your U300S. Done. Here the results. No more 100% Disk Usage.&n... Read more

Hi there, Llewh -
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

I think these steps might work.

Go to the upper right side (corner) of the screen to bring out the charms menu and go into PC Settings.
Click on PC and Devices.
You should see something related to mouse or TouchPad.
If there is an option, you can disable it.

You can also try these,

Go to Control Panel.
Click on Device Manager.
Find and Click on Mice and other pointing devices.
Select the MousePad and right click on it.
If there is an option then DISABLE it or click on PROPERTIES.
Go to the Driver tab and click Disable.

Update us how it goes.

Hello!I recieved (very) used Lenovo U300s from a collegue for 'repair and restore'. Apparently she wanted to try out Linux, and in the process she wiped out the hard drive. After realizing, that Linux does not suit her taste, she asked me to return it to (ioriginal) Windows 7 or 10. And now comes the hard part. The laptop does not come with COA sticker - neither on the underside, not inside (I checked the inside of cover and under the battery). Of course the laptop came without any recovery media, and the owner absolutely ignored making backups. Is the key lost, or is there still a way to retrieve it? I talked with her, and she seems ok with possibly updating to Windows 10, but I still need (I think) to install even for a while genuine Windows 7 to reserve Windows 10 key. Is there any other way to install directly Windows 10 that's genuine? What can I do now?

A:Getting Windows 7 back on U300s after complete wipe

hi Vatharian,

Welcome to the Forums.

If the U300s came preloaded with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit as listed in this datasheet then you will need to do the following:

1. Download a Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit ISO (you can get this on the net) or if you can't find a Home Premium version, any Windows 7 64-bit ISo should do and just create a universal Windows 7 installation disc (see this guide).

2. After getting the ISO, follow this guide on how to create a bootable Win7 flashdrive and use it to install Win7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit on the U300s. If successful, Windows will automatically read the product key in the motherboard and will activate your copy of Windows.

Tip:
Once Windows is installed, you can view the product key using this guide (see Options 2 to 6)

3. After Win7 is installed and activated, follow this guide on how to upgrade to Windows 10 (see Step 3) then activate it.

Note:
You will need to the procedure above to get an activated copy of Windows 10. If you perform a clean install of Windows 10 on first attempt. you will need to start over from the top (unless you have a retail key to activate Windows 10).

Hope this helps you out.

I was dual booting Windows 8.1 Update and Ubnutu 14.04 From the windows disk manager I deleted all Ubuntu partitions and rebooted my notebook. I was immediatlly present with the grub rescue promt. Normally this is a quick and easy fix, by booting a windows USB/CD and repairing the windows MBR.  My problem is I can't access the bios or the boot menu to change the boot order. Nothing I've tried has let me get into the bios to set my USB stick as the first boot option.  Using the small recovery key button on the side of the notebook which normally boots the notebook to the screen where you can choose which drive to boot does the same as the power button. There is no bios flash screen or abililty to press any keys before getting to the grub screen.  I've drained the battery and left over night hoping this would reset the state it seems to be stuck in but that also did nothing.  Here is a short video showing what happens when I boot the notebook http://youtu.be/2FpC2Deuawk

I have read that the normal drive erase is not a good idea for SSD's. I have also read that most SSD manufacturers should have a utility that will allow you to force it to flush deleted data. Does anyone know if this is available thru Lenovo. The SSD controller is a Jmicron but I did not see any utilities on their website.

Hello so my current battery for my laptop is quick to lose battery, only about 3 hours of usage before it runs out. It's a l12m4a01 model battery and is 2200mah. I'm wondering if Lenovo makes batteries with a bigger capacity for the G50-70. And where could I buy one?

A:Lenovo G50-70 battery replacement

Hi Alex1397 ,

Greetings.

Checking on the IPbook , shows that  for the G50-70 models it only offers Li-Ion 4-cell (32Wh or 41Wh) battery.
No offered 6c or 9c Li battery yet for this model.

For now I believe best alternative is getting a spare battery instead .
You may call in Lenovo or other resellers similar to this .

Hope this answered your query.

Plus not sure Lenovo even make a 'better' battery. I assume you meant a higher capacity battery ?

Hi anyone have the same experience and pls advise ?? I have bough a C560 i7 all in one system last year Aug 2016. Begining of this month the screen appeared with a 4mm line running across the screen vertically. I called to the services  Center (where is located in malaysia) . I was so pleased initally that the customer services rep called immediately  day after my called to the services Center.  A repair man being send to my house one week later to do the repair and the condition of the screen turn from bad to worst n the system totally black out. To cut the story short , the services Center and the repair guy email me and agree under good will to do a 1 to 1 replacement of the set if not the same but at lease compatable. After 1 week plus of investigation and the customer service  agreed to do a replacement for AIO PC INTEL CORE I5-5200U4GB 1TB HDD . Beside the same  memory on board n hard disk capacity of 1TB they downgraded the process from i7 to i5 and called it a compatable set??? Do anyone have the same experience? ? Any one can advise or share the similar  experience  and  how should I go from here to claim my right or what contact number I can call to get my set back as it is down for almost 3 weeks??  Pls help and advise ? Very much appreciated !!

A:Unfair 1 to 1 replacement by Lenovo

Jacob,

Welcome to the forum.   Sorry to hear about your experience so far !

In the event that Lenovo cannot repair a system under warranty, a replacement may be offered and the intent is that it should be equal or better than the system that it replaces in all the key specifications.  I understand and appreciate your concern over the downgrade in processor specifications.

I would contact service and let them know that you don't agree, and ask for the case to be escalated.  We have regional Lenovo teams that can review the situation and work with you to find a resolution.

If you are not able to escalate through service, please send me a private message with your name, best phone number to reach you, and the system type and serial number and any service case number that you have.   I'll try to arrange additional help for you.

Best regards,

Hi, The original Intel SSD (SSDSCKKF180H6L) recently failed on our E570 and I have replaced it with a new Samsung 860 Evo 500GB. I have installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 Pro, Windows updates and the latest Lenovo drivers and BIOS. However, it now takes 12 minutes to boot to the Winodws login screen and 8 minutes to shutdown. I installed Samsung Magician to test the SSD and all is OK, except that it took 21 minutes to start the software due to "scanning for drive information". The issue appears to be that the laptop (and Samsung Magician and Windows Device Manager) believes that the original Intel SSD is still installed and I imagine that is what is causing it to take so long to boot. The origial SSD still appears in the BIOS Boot screen (ATA HDD2 INTEL SSDSCKKF180H6L), I have excluded it from the boot priority order, but there does not appear to be a way of removing it from the BIOS. I uninstalled the SSD from Windows Device Manager, but it simply returns after rebooting. Does anyone know how to remove an old SSD, no longer in the laptop, from the BIOS? Many thanks, Andy

Hi, 2 weeks ago I gave my almost new (bought at the end of February this year) laptop LENOVO Y50-70 59444759 for a test to a warranty service, because I also had a problems with screen flickering and almost every day the screen turned black during my work with the laptop. From the service called me after 1 week and told me the screen was replaced with a new one. Back in home I ran a software to diagnose the condition of my system and it discovered the type of the screen they put on my computer. This is: Monitor Name LG Philips LP156WF4-SPL1FHD, Monitor Type 15.6" LCD (FHD). As far as I know that this type of laptop was originally bought with IPS Full HD Slim Monitor. Please advise me what to do in this case? Is this LG monitor a big downgrade for this system? Should I contact the Warranty service again to insist for a correct monitor to be installed? Thank you very much in advance. Below is the screenshot with the ""new" monitor type, discovered by the AIDA.  ?

Your question regarding the mailing in of your laptop for service would best be answered by Lenovo Support.  Give them a call and see what they recommend.  You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist_alt1

As for a do-it-yourself replacement.  Starting on page #50 of your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual outlines the replacement procedure for the LCD screen.  The link below is for your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual. When working inside your system please follow all precautions and recommendations that are noted in the manual.

As for parts, eBay can be a good source for new or used parts.  There are also sellers that offer new screens with warranty, but you would have to check to see if they will ship to you.  Here is one such company that is frequently recommended........

Hi Guys, I was wondering if you can direct/instruct me where to get a new Lenovo S440 Replacement Keyboard, in the UKi cannot find it for the life of me. Also are there any other Lenovo laptop models that the lenovo s440 is compatible with? i.e. will the T440 keyboard work with the S440 Thank You Zain

A:Lenovo S440 Replacement keyboard

Hi Zain, welcome to the forums.

I don't know exactly where to ask for a keyboard on the UK, but you should try to find your Lenovo retailer there.

It is very usefull to find the part number of the Lenovo s440 keyboard. On the support site of the S440 under "Documentation" you can find the documents for the part numbers.

I think it is this one:
https://support.lenovo.com/ec/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-s-series-laptops/thinkpad-s4...

That links to this PDF with the part numbers:
https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/s440_fru_bom_20130717.pdf

Would it be this one "04X0984 C Cover w/KBD UKE LTN <PRIMARY>"  ?

Please validate the part number with your retailer.

Regards

Hello, I currently own a T440P  (machine type 20AN) and my HDD is failing.  I want to replace the HDD with a SSD and had a few questions about the process (my apologies in advance, I'm not the most tech savvy user).  They are:1) What size is the HDD?  Normally, it's written on the outside of the media device, but I can't seem to find it on the drive.2) What size devices can the machine fit?  That is, can it fit a 7mm?  Or a 9mm?3) Is it possible to just replace the HDD with a SATA SSD?  Do I need any special tools, adapters, etc. to do so?4) If the old HDD has failed, is it still possible to access the recovery partition?  If I cannot, how/where can I access the drivers and Windows that were preloaded on my machine? 5) Where can I obtain a copy of my Windows product key in case I need it at some point?6) When I purchased my machine, I elected for Windows 7 via downgrade rights in Windows 8.  Is it possible to still stick to a W7 installation?  How do I elect this option when reinstalling windows? Thank you kindly for your assistance.
