I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

System is running stock with no overclock. Have had stable overclocks on this rig, but for the time being I need to eliminate as many variables as possible. I am currently running on a fresh reset of windows 10 with updated drivers and some games like the new Modern Warfare and Rocket League to test if they will crash. Modern Warfare usually crashes within the first 10 minutes of play time and gives a DirectX error. Rocket League will rarely crash, but it will freeze. The only way to unfreeze the game is to open task manager. This reveals the CPU meter at 100% but it only occurs when I first open task manager. The meter stabilizes and my Rocket League unfreezes. If I minimize or close task manager the game will freeze occasionally. I have read and followed instructions on other forums that relate this occurrence to malware or mining software, but nothing malicious was found. I am willing to double check this, because I really have no clue what the problem is.

Another correlation to stability I've found is with windows definition updates. Everyday I would check for windows updates then restart my PC multiple times before playing video games. This seemed fix my game crashes until the very moment another windows update came out. It doesn't notify when a definition update comes out, so on game crashes I would just keep restarting and checking for windows updates until something downloads. Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum. I had bought a Compaq Presario 5013wm a few weeks ago. The system came with Vista. I was having a lot of hardware issues with network and gfx card, so I opted to install XP. Well, XP wouldn't install because I had no floppy disks to load the raid drivers with, so I went under the BIOs and changed it from RAID to IDE. So now XP is on and everythings working... kind of. The problem I seem to be running into is some seemingly random crashes. From what I've noticed, they only happen while playing a game and, very rarely, when playing music. Sometimes I can play for hours and other times, just a few minutes. The graphics card is a Geforce 7300GS and it has the latest drivers along with the audio. Checked the temp and it seems to stay between 64-67C while playing a game, which I hear is normal for my card. The BIOs is still in IDE mode.. not sure if thats an issue.. can't turn it to RAID without a floppy drive -__-;. Upon thinking of it, I doubt that's the issue as the few times I was able to play before uninstalling vista, I recall the same freeze. I'm really at a loss as to what to do.

Hi. I'm running a modded version of Windows XP. Some of you may know if it, it's called Windows XP Ultimate (by Johnny).

This problem is not due to it being a non-official release of XP, since it was happening before I switched to this version.

The problem I'm having is that windows all of a sudden decides to completely freeze, stuttering the sound from the last eighth of a second or so over and over. The mouse is frozen, ctrl>alt>delete does nothing, etc. The only way to recover is to reboot.

This problem, I've found, happens most often when I'm playing Starcraft. However, on rare occasion it has happened at other times, such as when I'm just browsing a website or talking to friends on ventrilo.

It is the most frustrating problem ever, because I have absolutely no idea what is causing it.

Things I have tried to do to fix it:
-I have re-installed starcraft, though I didn't think this was the problem in the first place since it happens outside of starcraft.
-I have run CCleaner and cleaned the registry
-I have tried going into the task manager and ending every process that didn't seem absolutely critical to what I was doing (things I left open were things like my mouse/keyboard drivers, audio drivers, the actual starcraft exec, windows essential processes, etc).
-I have tried running memtest86+ for a full day, which turned up no errors
-I have tried underclocking my ram and processor (though my cpu temps are only at about 160F when this happens a... Read more

A:XP Freezing (crashing), usually during games

Hello -orb-

Have a look in these places for errors

1. Right click My Computer / Properties / Hardware / Device Manager.
Look for "Yellow" errors

2. Control Panel / Performance and Maintenance / Admin Tools / Event Viewer / System.
Look for "Red" errors. Double click on error.
Take a note of the Event ID and also the Source and post them back.

This might throw some light on the problem

I've had this problem for a long time, and I'm not the only one.
If anyone could help me out with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

When I run games, I crash. When exactly varies, sometimes I can play games for quite a while without a problem, otherwise I crash out pretty much as soon as I start playing.

Unfortunately, there's a number of 'types' of crashes. For example:
1. The game screen freezes for a few seconds, gets minimized, and displays a driver failure message.
2. The game freezes and simply closes.
3. The game freezes to a single color, with sound looping sometimes, and other times it simply goes quiet.
4. The screen goes black, and a 'HDMI / DVI Signal Lost' (obviously dependant on what I happen to be using -- I've tried multiple) message gets displayed, with my monitor powering down, only to power up again and either present me with my game crashed, or still running fine.

In the time I've had this problem, I've replaced my power feed, my graphics card (twice), and my motherboard. I've done a full reinstall as well as ran multiple tests on both my RAM and HDs, all of which returned no errors. All drivers are up-to-date.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit, on an Asus P5Q SE Plus motherboard, Q6600 CPU, OCZ600SXS power feed, two Samsung HD502IJ HDs and a DVD drive. The GPUs I've had this problem with were the AMD 5850, 9600GT and now the AMD 6950 HD.

I've tried two different HDMI cable... Read more

Hey TSG, I have a problem with my computer when playing games. In some of the newer, higher demanding games, mainly Mass Effect 2, Sims 3, Modern Warfare 2, and occasionally Team Fortress 2, my computer freezes, the monitor goes black and shows no input, the sound loops, everything is unresponsive. This occurs for about 5 seconds straight until it either restarts itself, or I have to press the reset button.

Possible causes:
1. I heard from a number of other threads that it could be from over heating. I've monitored my temperatures while ingame, and the only real problem was that Core 0 was about 60 degree C. Also, sometimes this freezing happens after 5 minutes of turning on the PC and playing a game in the morning.

2. Also from another thread I read it could be from a low performance PSU, which then I relised I had the computer's default one. But I bought a new $100 PSU, which should be more than capable of handling this.

3. This is a personal theory of mine, but I have two wall sockets running my PC system and other devices. But for each of these two plugs, I have a power board plugged in to allow more devices to run, such as my printer and speakers. My computer shares the wallsocket with my monitor, speakers and internet power plug, while the other powerboard powers my printer, homephone and wireless mouse. Maybe there isn't enough power getting to the computer?

4. My friend suggested to update my BIOS, which is apparently extremely outdated. He says ... Read more

Basically what happens sometimes in-game is I get either a crash where the screen goes black and then a message saying the graphics driver recovered successfully, or I get freezing up with fps drops every few seconds until I quit the application.

I haven't had this issue before I OC'd my AMD Phenom II X6 1090T CPU from 3.2 to 3.6 GHz. The temperatures of the card are perfectly fine (it's usually around 62-67 degrees) and I also ran some stress tests through furmark, which gave me results consistent with my card's rating, and I had no errors.

I was under the impression that overclocking the CPU didn't affect the graphics card. Also, I'm 100% certain the card is getting enough power because I specifically bought a new power supply a few months back to make sure I would never worry about power issues. The GPU drivers are up to date (I even tried using beta drivers) and I've checked the card physically and got the dust out.

edit: just got another error in Starcraft 2 - "your computer has run out of paged pool memory". I have 12 gbs of ram and with starcraft 2 open i have about 8.5-9 gbs being used.

Does anybody know what is the problem? Thank you for any help.

Hi, I'm having a problem with my laptop where it will freeze, giving me a screen of fuzzy blocks of colour. This has only happened when I'm playing games, and will almost always happen 10-60 mins after starting a game.
When it freezes I can still move the cursor (represented by its own fuzzy block) and the audio continues for a few seconds then I get a buzzing. If I try alt+tab or ctrl+alt+dlt I can't move the cursor any more either.

The laptop doesn't feel like its overheating, it often gets a lot hotter than it is at these points. I have tried running it just off AC as I've been having some problems with my battery recently that I thought were connected but the same happened.

Any ideas?

Even though you do not suspect and over heating issue. Clean out all air vents with a can of air. Also go to the manufacture of the laptop Dell go to Support/Drivers locate the model number studio 1558 Make sure you select Windows 7 64bit. Download any updated video drivers available, install them then reboot. Also try temporarly disabling your anti virus while playing games also end tasking any unneeded tasks or programs while playing. These can use up RAM which can also slow down your game and Windows.
Also go to Start type in Msconfig click the Startup tap and uncheck non essential Microsoft items also do not uncheck any anti virus items. Click ok, then reboot.

A lot of startup and running programs in the back ground can slow down your system. Do a disk cleanup. Also try defraging your hard drive.

History of crashing and details of my attempt at troubleshooting:
So my laptop has a habit of crashing for quite a while now. Prior to my recent system factory restore, the computer would crash quite often even doing mundane tasks. When it crashed rarely does it bring up BSOD and instead just freezes. After I restart it, out of the 4GB of ram installed, only 2GB out of 4GB was usable according to the system information. But when this happens, the computer is usually stable if I leave it like that (don't turn off or go to sleep) and doesn't crash as often when gaming (still does it, but not the 100% chance during the full 4GB boot).
Recently, due to a system file problem caused by a crash during an update, I did a factory restore of this laptop and also attempted to troubleshoot the issue. I ran memtest86 (yeah, it's outdated, but I wasn't aware at the time) with the ram sticks individually. In one slot, it brought up an error within 5 minutes, but when that occurred, it jumped from 0 to 65535+ in an instant and crashed afterwards. I test the same ram stick in the other slot and it passed with no errors overnight. I suspected a bad ram slot and bought a 4GB ram stick. The system seemed to be running fine until I tried gaming again, in which case it crashes within a few minutes (sometimes it freezes other times it brings up BSOD). Afterwards, if I tried to turn it on again, it will result in it freezing and BSOD within minutes of just doing regular tasks. If someh... Read more

So I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 , 10 was for free so why not. It was okay for weeks and i went on a holiday for 3 weeks. When i came back and plugged my PC back in it started to crash to BSOD or it just totally shuts off and restarts. I am also having these freezing problems which force me to manually turn off my PC ( which i know isn't the best for the PC) . Most of the time the crashing happens when Im playing games like Fallout 4,Dead by Daylight. I didn't notice any problems when being in a program like Photoshop CC . I tried programs that find system problems , scanned my hard disk and Ram too , no problems there , tried changing my power supply if its getting enough power . No fixes.

Okay, been having issues with my machine. They seem to be video related. I'm getting crashes, freezes, reboots etc from using different programs.

I have a dual monitor set up, and often have a video (Netflix, YouTube, Twitch etc) playing on one screen while doing things on the other screen (games, video editing). When doing so, I keep getting freezes, crashes and straight reboots, no messages, just suddenly black screen computer powering down.

I've scanned my computer with windows defender and Malwarebyte Anti-Malware and nothing was found.

Did clean uninstall of my video drivers and reinstalled them.

Checked my RAM for errors and found nothing.

It's hard for me to describe, but here are a few things I can give you as symptoms.

1. It does not like me doing more than one thing at a time with regards to video. I can't edit and watch Youtube for instance.
2. Sometimes it will just freeze and I have to hard reboot with the power button to get it going again.
3. Sometimes it will just kill the window in Chrome that has the video on it and say "Aw, snap something went wrong while displaying this webpage."
4. Sometimes it just straight crashes, I have seen a couple of blue screens but more often the screen just turns black and it shuts down.
5. The blue screens sometimes do not point at a specific file when crashing, but when they do it says win32kfull.sys as the program that has errored.
6. If I'm only doing one video related thing it oft... Read more

Hi all,

Have a problem running sony vegas (a video editing software package).

The problem simply put is that on many occasions (just to point out it does not happen on every occasion, but it does happen frequently) i run the program it either crashes with a blue screen or it freezes and i get an error report provided by sony vegas. Although not strictly the only time it happens, the time it crashes the most (well the times i've noticed it crashing today) is whenever i try to play a preview of what I have edited.

Anyone know how to solve this issue for me please? The details of the error report are below:

Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)
Fault Module: D:\WINDOWS\system32\USER32.dll

New installation of XP, after many many years of 2k.
Well, we've encountered our first issue. While my dvd player can quite happily read and play games on DVD and CD, movies just will not play. It isn't that it can't detect them, it detects them just fine... Power DVD crashes (it IS power dvd 5 but still, it should still work) it just sits for a while doing nothing then closes.
Windows media player doesn't have the right codex and when I try to look at the advanced dvd options is freezes.
Real Player also freezes when I tell it to play a DVD

Could this be a codex issue?

My DVD player is an LG DVD burner of some description, it's a good few years old but WAS running just fine before 2k decided to destroy itself. I've been running Linux for months and since then various bits of kit have just ceased to work. (My scanner also seems to have failed despite updating it's drivers, but that's a different story)

Now, bearing in mind i'm a bit of a novice when it comes to computer related things, does anyone have any suggestions and useful links? I'm thinking it might be video card or codex related maybe? given every program is crashing it suggests it's an issue with the dvd playing rather than one piece of software.

I come in grave need of some help. This issue has been bothering me for weeks (months?) and I can't deal with it anymore. My computer is unbearably laggy at times, and programs consistently hang when doing simple tasks (like changing a song in foobar2000, or clicking something).

My computer itself never completely crashes or anything, but programs just hang freeze and crash. Nothing is overheating, I can rule that out easily. The only thing getting to a high temperature according to CPUID Hardware Monitor is 'System 2' under the Motherboard tab... which sits at 82c. Nothing is overclocked either, all clocks are stock. Additionally, I reformatted last night and the problem persists. I've just got no idea what to do next. Games like Starcraft 2 can be running fine for some time - then randomly decide to hang and crash.

A bit later, I was told of a new program that had stopped responding--and it was explorer.exe. Not a good sign.

After leaving my PC for a while, I came back to see that it had "unexpectedly shut down." This happened a few more times. I tweaked several settings, to no effect.

Today, I've experienced several dreaded BSoDs--blue error screens. For the most part, the computer reboots so quickly that I don't have much time to read what they say. In the last one, I was able to make out, "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL."

My ideapad Y700-15ISK has been freezing while playing games for about 3 months now. It will be completely fine with no stuttering or lag during game play but seemingly at random it the keyboard will start not recognizing inputs and I will be forced to shut it off using the power button as during full screen games you can only exit them with the keyboard. The strange thing is that the game will still recognize mouse input as I can move it to make my character look around and the game runs fine as normal. This has happened with 3 games so far with varying degrees of severity and just recently my PC crashed while watching a video and wasn't able to reboot until I turned it off and on again. I am not to experienced with laptops but I suspect there could be a problem with the graphics card as I have noticed minor graphical blips during videos. I have contacted Lenovo support on mobile but they have come back with the solution of doing a factory reset 2 times so far. Its always nice to get a second opinion especially now with the crash that recently happend. Thank you for reading.

Having some issues with my PC crashing & freezing. Think that part of the problem might be my PSU.

My current set-up is:

Don?t know if 400w is enough to power this.

I don?t have a load of money so was looking at this as a 550w PSU replacement. Problem is I?m no good at working out suitable ampage/wattage/voltage levels - the PSU I was looking at replacing it with is a CiT 550w dual rail PSU (can't post the link as not enough posts, but it's on Amazon). Don't know if that's any good/suitable/will help? Would appreciate some advice.

Everytime the download would hit 99.9% with firefox's download manager, Firefox and it's DL manager would go nonresponsive and be uncloseable even to the windows task manager (only a reset would fix it). I tried again, using a different download site. Same problem occured at 99.9%.

This is when I got bothered and used Bit Tornado to download the file to a different folder. Then the problem really started. Whenever I go to My Download (the place both firefox tries went to) and try to delete both incomplete files, the My Computer browser goes unresponsive like Firefox. I use the task manager to close it and then my entire desktop (except background) disappears, forcing me to manually restart. Also, whenever I go to the folder I saved the file with Bit Torndado (which finishes), the same problem will happen there whenever I scroll down and the file would appear (does it on the row right above it and when I try to scroll down).

I've run my McAffee virus scanner and multiple spyware scanners, but those have come up clean. I've set my computer back to the day before I downloaded the files and it's still happening. I'm using XP Home, which came already installed on my Dell machine. I don't have an XP CD.

Any help at all would really be appreciated. I can live w... Read more

I've had problems with my computer crashing.
At this point I suspect there is a hardware problem (and I'd guess motherboard), but thought I'd better leave the judgment to people better experienced than I.

Here's my system specs:
Motherboard: ECS A885GM-A2
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 970 Processor 3.50GB
RAM: 2x4GB sticks, Crucial.
Video card: EVGA GeForce 210 1024MB DDR3, but reverted to the motherboard graphics.
Hard Drives: WD10EARX Sata 1TB (OS drive), Samsung HD154UI 15TB (Storage), there's another one too, but I unplugged it.
Optical drives: was running an LG Super Multi SATA internal thing, unplugged it and have been trying an external USB version of the same.
OS: Vista Ultimate 64-bit, also experimenting with Linux Mint on a USB stick.

Had intermittent problems with bluescreening, freezing and restarting for a while, bluescreening got really bad so I reinstalled Windows.
Some of the freezing gave some screen glitches. I had WhoCrashed installed, and not every bluescreen seemed to have been remembered by the computer. I saved the old crash reports. I'm sure I ran a Windows Fixit at some point in that previous install, I don't remember what it was for.
After reinstalling, it still crashed. I removed the graphics card (I mentioned the screen glitching), the internal optical drive and the third hard drive (the latter two were second-hand, so I thought I'd rule those out). Seemed more stable, but still crashed. Did get a Windows Fixit for "common U... Read more

Can you boot into Windows?

I suspect that the mobo drivers are causing this problem, if it's not a hardware failure.

You could go to control panel, device manager and check to see if there are any yellow exclamation points next to anything.

and blue screen dumps.  Is there any software, recommended, that could remedy the situation.  Furthermore, I continue to reset my MSN search engine to www.msn.com and I get a strange addition in the address box, which is like .PUPP.  I wonder if that is part of the problem?  Maybe my search engine has been hijacked or I should be using something safer?
Thanks so much for your help :-)

My computer's been acting up recently, one day I got home, PC was turned on, but monitor wasn't, so I turned it on, moved mouse so the display would respond as usual, but it never did, the monitor said "No signal", no matter how I interacted with the PC, and apparently the lights in my keyboard (Caps Lock and Num Lock) didn't light up, as if it wasn't connected to anything; I had to hard-reset, and the PC booted up as normal.

This has happened at least twice, one time when I turned on the monitor, the desktop was all screwed up, and it didn't respond at all, totally frozen, like if someone had opened several programs at once and moved them around frenetically, causing the PC to freeze.

This has worried me, so I have already defragmented my HDD, as I suspected it might be dying, and did a chkdsk, which apparently came out with nothing out of the ordinary, but I'm not sure how to check, and it didn't seem to help, my PC is worse than ever, stuttering at opening a folder or program, and being generally not reliable and slow.

Today, following someone's advice, I attempted to reinstall my graphic drivers, but in doing so, first, the Nvidia installer "failed" installing the Graphics drivers, turning the monitor in 1280x800 resolution, and prompting the Windows Driver Installation. I cancelled it, restarted and tried installing the nvidia drivers again, which apparently succeeded, but restarting, after windows shut down, my monitor went "No signal", ... Read more

A:Freezing/Crashing after quitting out of game, and problems

If possible, I would remove the hard drive from your computer and put it into another computer. Boot to the regular drive on that computer and run a scan with the anti-virus of your choice as well as MalwareBytes. I would also check to make sure the graphics card is fully seated in the slot, though that is something of a long shot. Try these suggestions, keep me posted and we'll go from there. Good luck!

Hey I got the Orange box and also downloaded the free HL2eathmatch game that came with the latest ATI Radeon catalyst driver.

The problem with Half-Life 2 is that it crashes every so often on loading screens in game. After a while a black screen appears and it crashes to the desktop, sometimes without any error message and sometimes with a message saying there was an error and hl2.exe had to shut down. The game recommends to have most of the settings on high, I've experimented by putting some main settings on medium but I still encounter the same problem. I know a lot of people have problems getting past the first bit but I can go for hours without crashing but eventually a loading screen will cause it to crash.

PS does running the game with the disc even do anything?

HL2: Deathmatch will not load. I try to launch the game (through steam) and when I try to find servers it freezes. When I try a different way by finding servers through Steam first, the game loads, the server message appears, I press ok, but then I hear a looping sound and the game is frozen. I cannot CTRL + ALT + DEL out of it I have to turn the computer off in both cases.

Okay, after reloading my OS from Windows 7 to Windows XP(I liked the gaming on XP better), I started having problems with any full screen online games I play, randomly pausing for 10-20 seconds, then unfreezing..

This isn't a constant thing, it can go for 30 minutes before it happens, but that happening while playing a FPS online, can be infuriating. It always.. and I mean always, happens at the most inopportune time.

Now that I've described the problem heres my system.. as unimpressive as it may be lol.

I have scanned the computer with AVG, MalwareBytes and Spybot. And found not a single item.

I've changed my drivers around as a whole, network, sound, video, ide, sata.. etc..

The drivers listed are from nforcershq, due to having some problems initially with sound and some other flaky problems those fixed.

The video card isn't getting hot, it's been taken apart, and had new artic silver applied to all components, as well as the CPU.

Beyond this freezing, I'm not having any other problems, if that helps..

I just find myself frustrated due to not being able to resolve this myself over the course of two weeks.

And thank you for the help in advance..

Hello All,
My problems started with screen freezes - various programs / times of freeze - seemingly no common denominator as far as what I was running - after which I would have to do a forced reboot. Windows actually crashed out a couple of times , but I was always able to restart - till now.
I tried to do a system restore with my restore disc - was told Windows could not be started due to a disc error. Decided to upgrade to a bigger HD and do a clean install. Popped in the new HD and my Windows restore / install disc - hit the power button - and got nothng accept the sound of the cd spinning up. Black monitor. OK. Reset the BIOS - started her back up, enter BIOS configuration screen, and the screen freezes.
Forced reboot - black screen again, nothing - no Alienware splash, no loading of configurations screens, no Bios edit option for F2 - just dead again. I could hear and feel the CD and HD spinning up - just couldnt get ANYTHING on the monitor.
I thought maybe I had a bad memory stick. Tried them both one at a time (resetting the BIOS each and every time by removing the CMOS battery) - I get the same results every time - a screen freeze at various points - sometimes while editing the BIOS, once I made it as far as starting the loading of Windows - but it always either crashes out with a mesage of "Cannot start Window - Disc error" (paraphrased), or just freezes up and my only option is a forced reboot.

I have some suggestions: Check your fan to see if it works properly, overheating can cause random errors. Look inside your CPU or laptop to see if anything is damaged or destroyed, if so take your computer to the place where you got it and let the person see it. They might be able to help.

Hope this helped!

I just built my friend a computer (first time for me) and I recommended for him to play the Half Life 2 Demo and also the Battlefield 2 Demo to test his computer. Whenever he tries to play Half Life 2, the game freezes, unfreezes, and freezes some more at the menu ( I guess Lag). In Battlefield 2 it freezes for like a second in the menu and some times during loading (the sound will skip). There are also graphical problems during gameplay in both Half Life 2 (at the menu, some buildings disappear and then reappear) and Battlefield 2 (very slow after it loads and the desert turns black). I have tested Doom 3 and also Call of Duty and both games work fine on his system at the highest settings. The system is as follows:

eVGA Geforce 6800 128 MB
ABIT NF8 Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce3 250Gb ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
1 GB PC 3200 RAM
Western Digital Caviar SE 160 GB
Lite-On Optical Drive (does everything)
Antec Solution SLK1650B 350W PSU
Windows XP Pro SP2
...If I missed any parts let me know

All the drivers were installed and everything was updated (such as Windows updates and also the latest video card drivers were installed). Is there anything that I might of done wrong, any ideas what could be the problem, any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Graphics Problems and Games Such as HL2 and BF2 freezing at the Game Menu

I know there have been plenty of issues with BF2 my friend has the same problem and his machine is almsot exactly as yours, apparently BF2 was rushed to development and there are a LOT of bugs that have to be ironed out, I know EA shut their servers down a couple of days ago because of even more bug issues, so for that you'll just have to wait, and as far as HL2 goes, I have the same board you do, and just look at my specs, i have less memory a little bit stronger processor, and a graphics card that comparable to yours, and i can run HL2 at full blast just fine, so I would try running it with no other apps running at all, open up task manager and close everything but taskmanager.exe, explorer.exe, and ctfmon.exe and then start up steam and try running the game at lowest graphics and resolution and then slowly build up from there, i've also heard that the newest nvidia drivers are crap, so if after going through all the different settings from lowest to highest and still getting stutters no matter the setting, try experimenting with older nivida drivers, i also hear omega drivers (3rd party drivers for nvidia) are the way to go, and if that doesn't work, i'd convince your friend to join the dark side of the force ATI.... hahahahaha evil laughter....

I have a Samsung Chronos Series 7 running Windows 7 and as of a day ago i have been experiencing extreme stability issues, freezing programs and general unresponsiveness. Whenever I boot up my computer and log in, within 5 minutes the system freezes, with the only way of shutting it off being to hold down the power and force reboot. Each time windows boots up, within a few minutes of logging on the system freezes again.

After repeating this a few times it eventually would boot up, but freeze between the windows screen and the log in screen. The mouse was functional and could be moved around the screen but it was frozen at a black screen. To fix this I ran a system restore through the BIOS. This corrected that problem but I am still left with the problem of my system freezing every time it boots up.

I have run my anti-virus (Kaspersky) and malwarebyes, neither have found any sort of malware.

1..What i would try first is boot into Safe Mode (f8) and see if problem is present there as well.İf everything works fine in Safe Mode then some third party services are probably causing the problems.

2.. a clean boot to troubleshoot the problem http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

3..How much RAM have you got? İf there's enough then next step 4.. would be a scan with http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

(best to access the site with İE)run a scan, checkmark all appropriate boxes, including 'check archives,

click on advanced settings and checkmark ''scan for potentialy unsafe apps'

disable your antivirus just before you run Start

and re-enable it afterwards. The scanner will give you the option to delete anything it finds at the end.

Please do that and if after a cleaning of your disk and a reboot, the problem persists, please let us know the results.

İf no malware is found we'll have to do chkdsk next.

P.S İf malware is found please also go to Start>Run type prefetch click ok and delete everything on that page, then empty Recycle bin and reboot.

While playing games or doing anything that requires memory and video card memory usage, my computer tends to lock up fully and make a buzzing noise, which is actually the last sound heard just repeating itself. I came on here with this problem before thinking it was the sound card or video card, but even after updating the drivers and inspecting them, its neither.

I checked the event log in BIOS and theres a long list of CMOS checksum bad errors. I'm kinda new to this stuff and I really don't know what thats a sign of, but its probly the source of my problem. It jut recently began beeping at startup and stopping while booting, while showing an error that says CMOS/GPNV checksum bad.

Any way to fix this?

Have had this problem for several months, possibly started after an intenet technician altered something to enable me to get internet (ethernet). Now have eliminated that internet and asked them to undo whatever they did but due to different technician and language barrier, doubt if it was done.

Anyway, have a fast computer. athlon 64 x2 but very slow startup, about 150 seconds even though are very few startup items. Computer first was crashing about every week or so, eventually every day, maybe two times a day. Different messages, such as IRQL not less or equal, memory management problem, bad pool caller, runtime error, attempt to write to read only memory, page fault in non-paged area. Lately has been crashing without a message and restarting itself. and now has just been freezing up. Also frequently Firefox has an error and needs to shutdown, and the same thing for my stock trading program. Ran that Panda malware cleaner, found nothing, ran memtest 86, says memory is ok. Oh, one more thing, the power supply blew out and needed to be replaced even though it is new computer. Found out that house current here often runs as high as 270 volts, apparently not enough to kick the surge protector but maybe damaged something. Now have a voltage regulator which keeps it at 220 volts.

I have had persistent problems recently with my computer freezing/crashing, and I just wanted to air this issue for possible solutions should anyone recognise the problem. This is an HP Pavilion, model 500-123a, running Windows 10 (recently upgraded from Windows 8). What's been happening is that it's been stalling out, both in Word (without broadband on) and on the Web (eg Yahoo, Yahoo Mail). In Word the cursor freezes and will not move, the screen goes opaque white, the blue circle whirls, can't do anything with it, can't shut down, and I have to unplug it and reboot. This can happen 3 or 4 times a day. In Yahoo, similarly, the screen freezes, the cursor won't move at all, and have to unplug. I used software, PC Health Advisor, to try to diagnose the problem, and it hasn't signalled up anything specifically. From checks I've done, it doesn't look like fragmentation, nor RAM (8GB), nor registry issues, nor a monitor problem. I am quite flummoxed at this stage.

So, just wondered if anyone's run into anything like this, any notion what it might be. Any ideas would be appreciated.
