Unable to Open/Save Downloads

Q: Unable to Open/Save Downloads

I'm operating in Windows 7 and haven't been able to open or save downloads frm email in yahoo. The location that opens for a save is ne1-attach.ymail.com and wasn't where downloads were saving in the past. I believe when I updated an adobe program, I began to experience the problem. I've tried disabling a few add ons but I'm really not sure how to some of things without really compromising an already time-consuming problem. I cannot do my work efficiently at this point, if I cannot open and view materials needed as part of my day-to-day operation. Please Help!

Preferred Solution: Unable to Open/Save Downloads

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I download a file in Firefox (latest ver), it states to SAVE. I would like it to give option to OPEN. It used to do give me a choice, but I must have changed something.

Is there any way to get this option back?

Hello, I have come across a slight problem, I use Google Chrome to download pictures, videos and such, I've set the default location to download said files is the "My Pictures" Folder, but when I choose to save a picture to the file it just says that I cant save it there, and to choose another location, It does it with every other main folder except "Downloads" folder, anything can go in there. I have ran AVG and Malware bytes to see if it could possibly be a virus, but no luck.

This problem hasn't been around long, and I'm already pulling my hair out over it, I was able to do it before, but unable now.

I have also attached a picture as evidence.

I am running Windows 7 x64, and still haven't made a backup

Thanks in Advance

Hazzy.

When I click a link to a .exe file I don't get a choice to "save to disk" or "run program from current location". the file just starts downloading to some hidden temporary location that I can never find.

The only way I can download is to right click and choose "save target as". I have nothing against doing this but some download sites don't have a direct link to the file that I can rightclick on, they have some sort of script that sends me the file, but it sends to the same hidden temporary place that I can't find.

Once upon a time when I still had the option to "save to disk" or "run program from current location", I chose "save to disk" and then unchecked "Always ask before opening this type of file". From that time on I've had the above problem and can't find anyway to reverse this. This started with ie5 on win2k, I've since installed ie6 and same thing.

Wouldn't this be a Google Chrome problem, not a Windows 7 problem? Try searching the Google Chrome forum:

I have two problems with Word 2003.

First, regardless of any changes made to a document, when I close the application I do not get a prompt asking if I want to save the changes.

Second, I cannot open more than one document at a time. If I have a document open, and I try to open a second document, it flashes the second document on the screen briefly and then closes it, leaving me with my first document open. There are no windows minimized to the taskbar, and there are no documents (other than the first document I opened) listed in the Window menu of Word.

I have installed all updates and service packs (both for Office 2003 and for Windows XP), and I am not using any 3rd party add-ins. I even tried uninstalling all Office related applications and reinstalling. No dice.

This has been going on for quite some time now, and I cannot find ANY information that seems to relate. I am begging for help here, so anything is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Tried opening them from a remote PC and they open just fine. Can't do anything with them on my PC except view them in Visio itself.
I've tried resetting IE settings. Uninstalling IE 11 and going down to 10. Nothing in event viewer for IE.

One of my user is having this problem on her Windows XP PC:

Dell GX260 with Windows XP Professional running 512MB RAM, Office XP, Acrobat 5.0

When opening a Word file & edited in Word XP, the user cannot SAVE or use SAVE AS the file, when try to exit out the file, get prompt to either SAVE, CLOSE, or CANCEL the file, at that point it will still not save the file, the only way to exit the file is to hit CLOSE to exit.

I initially thought this might be a Word Xp problem, so I ran the repair tool in Office XP, that did not fix it.

I then uninstalled Office XP, reinstalled Office XP, but that also did not fix the problem.

I then ran the Office update to download the latest patches from MicroSoft, but that also did not fix the problem.

I then UNINSTALLED Acrobat 5.0 from the PC, that FIXED the problem.

WITHOUT Acrobat 5.0 on her PC, the user was now able to open & edit a Word file, and able to SAVE the edited file, also able use SAVE AS to save the file as a new copy.

I then reinstalled Acrobat 5.0 thinking the previous copy of Acrobat 5.0 on the PC might be corrupted, as soon as Acrobat 5.0 was back on the PC, the same problem with the SAVE feature came back in Word XP.

I then installed the patch update for Acrobat 5.0, that did not fix the problem.

At this point, I am out of clues on how to fix it....The user tried Acrobat 6.0 before on the same PC, but decided to reverse back to Acrobat 5.0 because of format problem with 6.0.......so Acrobat 6.0 is no... Read more

Sorry if there is already a topic on this, but I can't fix the problem. For the past 4 weeks or so, if I try to download something, it doesn't save. It asks me to Save or Run, I'll type in a filename to save to, and it goes through the download, then it just ends. It closes the download box, but it doesn't save. It's like nothing happened at all.

It does this with anything from files I've emailed to myself, video files, and programs.

Can anyone help? Please

A:Downloads Don't Save To Computer

Have you searched your hard drive for any of those files to see if they were saved somewhere else?
Have you stopped the download box from automatically closing, so you can use it to follow/open the file once it's been downloaded (only do this with something you're sure of - otherwise you could be letting an infection onto your system).

If you are using Internet Explorer, clear your Temporary Internet Cache (Internet Options).

If you have or can install another browser, test with it.

Try creating or using another User Account. You can enable the "Guest" account in Control Panel > User Accounts for a test.

Try booting to Safe Mode with Networking Support and test there. Test in both your normal and the built in Administrator account.

Disable any 3rd party firewall.

I have ie10 with Windows 7 64 bit.  When I try to download a file from a website everything works fine.  I even get the message at the bottom of the screen asking me to Run or Save this item.  Unfortunately, Run, Save, Save A, none of these have any effect.  I can successfully download files with Firefox, but not IE.  The computer will also not allow me to install ie11.

I have tried resetting all of IE's settings to default, but this doesn't help.  I've tried turning off all Add-Ins, this didn't help either.  I then ran sfc /scannow.  It told me that it found a problem that it couldn't fix.  I've attached the SFC log.

Now when I try to download a program, the "save as" option does not do anything anymore. I have to use the "save" option and the transfer the downloaded file manualy to where I want it.
I have looked up the issue in the forum and there was an advice to do an sfc /scannow. I did it but to no avail, nothing wrong. I suspect that I switched off a service that is used by the option, but which one is it?

This is the problem that brought me to this site in the first place.

I know it's probably something silly that I'm missing but for the life of me I can't solve the issue.

A client of mine uses Internet Explorer 6 and really doesn't want to change her browser. Thing is, when she tries to download (even if she says 'save target as') the download prompt comes up asking to run, save or cancel, she clicks save, and the window disappears and nothing happens. There are no error messages, just... nothing.

I've updated IE, reinstalled, and even tweaked the registry and still no joy. The firewall and antivirus programs were disabled while testing so they're not getting in the way. Everything else works fine (and firefox can download without an issue).

I'll take any advice I can get right now because it's driving me nuts.

Oh yes: Windows XP Pro, SP 2 (and plenty of HHD space).

I recently started using Firefox about 2 months and have been pretty happy with its performance. A couple of days ago it started doing something strange. Previously (as with Internet Explorer) it would allow you to save images and other files found on certain websites. My PC still shows that this is an option however when I attempt to do this the downloaded file is not saved into the specified folder. Instead the PC is now saving the file as a URL. I found this out by doing a search. If I switch over to IE the files can be saved normally. I don't want to revert to using IE so does anyone have any insight into fixing this problem?

i am running win7 RC and the version of ie that came with it. and no 'just use firefox/chrome/safari' or any other firefox/chrome/safari' related "suggestions". i do use firefox sometimes.

does anyone have any clue as to whats going on?

Try downloading again and make sure the dialog box is pointing to the Desktop. By default it points to the Temp folder.

I have XP Pro SP2 current updates with the exception of KB912812 because of programs that we use that are broken by this patch. IE version is 6.0.2900.

Whenever I download a file, from IE, and save it ANYWHERE on my computer, The save as window will appear, I will select a place on my hard drive to save the file and click save. Then you see the save progression bar save the file, then the icon will appear for a split second and then another popup will briefly appear that looks like it might be removing the download and then the icon disappears and can be found no where. I looked in the recycle bin and the file is not there. I looked in the temp folders and it's not there either. Just really strange.

If I open Mozilla Firefox and download the same file to ANYWHERE on the hard drive, it saves no problem.

Co-workers are suggesting a virus or spyware, but I've ran all AVSW (eTrust) and several spyware tools and have found nothing.

Looking for suggestions.

Thank you.

Carrie

Received a few MS Excel files from an outside vendor as e-mail attachment. I am able to save the attachement to My Doc or desktop and then open or open them directly from Outlook 2003 or 2007.

But when I tried to save the doc with or without making changes, the spreadsheet just sits there and saying Saving at the bottom. I waited several miniutes to be saved, but it just sits there. It does not taking any extra resources. On Application event viewer, it just displayes application hang error.

A:Scheduling 'Right Click Save As' Downloads

You can schedule downloads with FlashGet. Go to Tools > Options > Schedule and set the time and day you want.

I have searched the help for both Windows 7 and for Internet Explorer8 and I can't find where to change back to the option I had when downloading to "save" rather than "run" the file I am downloading. Now every file automatically opens, and the box goes away too quickly to see if I can put the checkmark back in it...that will let me pick where the file should be saved. Where are the options for downloading kept and changed? Thanks...The home-made virus strikes again

A:I turned off the ability to save downloads where I want

Well, the only option is to remove the check mark from that window.
You can use that window to either "Run" or "Save" the download.

Every time I click to download a link in EXPLORER 11 on windows 7 it fails it starts to download normally then when it does the security scan part it fails the download and does not save it to the HD ? However the same downloads work in Firefox

A:Internet Explorer will not save downloads

I didn't think IE 11 could be run on windows 7, i heard somewhere that the latest IE version for everything other than 8.1 is IE10. Anyway, i avoid internet explorer but i did once change a few of IE 10's security settings up to it's absolute maximum. This had the effect of IE 10 refusing to download any files and requiring me to click a little "link" every time page tried to redirect. This blocking of downloads was not after any type of scan but it was an instant refusal as soon as one attempted any download. if that is what you have experienced it is caused by IE's security settings being on the superhigh setting(which is where you should leave them), and if  that is the case i would suggest just using firefox (or getting google chrome). If this is not a consequence of the security settings for IE i have no clue what it is, sorry.

I unchecked the box on the IE downloader "always ask for this file type" and not it always opens it from the current location.

How can I change that back so that I can save the files again?

A:Solved: My downloads wont save on any browser...

Ok nevermind i sorted the problem. For some strange reason the problem was to do with a corrupted AVG installation. I just installed it again using the repair option and now i can download files again.

I seem to be having a problem that I have not been able to find a solution.
When clicking on a download link, instead of the usual Save Prompt, the file is downloaded completely and then I am given the prompt.
This occurs in IE8, Firefox 37, Chrome. Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
The type of files are zip and rar files. The file downloads and is complete but I want the save or open prompt before the download starts.

Things I have tried...
Reset internet options->security settings
Enabled Automatic prompting for file downloads
Disabled Eset antivirus
Disabled Windows Firewall
Ran Malwarebytes and cleaned all problems
Created a new Admin User account
Ran fixIE
Installed 7Zip
Installed Winrar

I normally use Firefox and I thought i was an issue that FF but after trying the same links in IE and Chrome the same behavior occurs.
I have Winrar 4.20 installed and is set as default program for .zip and .rar files

A little more about the issue. This is all occurring on a fresh windows install on a new SSD Intel 730. I have updated Windows 7 with all the updates including SP1 and IE11. I have uninstalled IE11 and am using IE8. The issue occurred in both. I also thought it may have to do with Mime-type but after using an old mimestype.rdf from my previous windows 7 install firefox profile the issue still occurred. I first noticed the issue when downloading Eclipse, Java and Asus drivers. Some downloads timed out before I got the prompt.

I am thinking that it may be a certain Windows u... Read more

A:Browser downloads file before Save Prompt

The IE8 is defunct and so is the IE9. Chrome puts it into Downloads. FF I don't use and don't know. Get the IE11 and it should be OK.

I did a clean install of Windows 7 and created a Logical Drive in the same Primary Partition. There is only one problem. When I try to save downloads from the internet directly to the Logical Drive, I am told that I have no permission to save in that location. Please see attachment. I can save to that location if I create a folder there and save in to the folder. I am the Administrator and Disk Properties show that I am the 'Owner' of this drive. What can I do to save directly to the Drive without creating a folder there.
