Complicated warning in ATA

Q: Complicated warning in ATA

We are using ATA with Lightweight gateway in our network.
We have never changed any password in our domain, but we see this warning in specific machine profile.
Account Password was Changed.
(I want to upload image but my account is not activated.)

This is complicated because no user has been mentioned, Is it work group account or domain account?

I think that ATA does not show any warning with work group activities, Is it true?
I check user's passwords who access this computer with "net user" command but "password set date" is very old and it shows that we have never changed the password.
Best Regard.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a problem. Just don't know what to do.
Once i've filled out the form in the Internet Explorer 6.0. I entered a code. And then i lost it. And there's no any possibility to restore it. So my question is... is it possible to find this code in some temporary files or cookies?

A:Complicated IE

First of all, I suggest you upgrade your Internet Explorer to at least 7 or 8 if possible, and if your on Windows Vista or 7, upgrade to 9.

Second of all, what is this form and code your talking about?

Happy Holidays, all! I am extremely new to the site but have come here hoping that someone out there can point me in the right direction to solving my problem(s). You'll have to forgive me if I put this under the wrong category

It's a little lengthy, so I hope you're comfy.

I have 2 desktop computers, both built for me by an ex-boyfriend (he's no longer in the picture) so that I can play World of Warcraft. I don't know much about computers but here are the things I do know about the ones I own:

• Computer A runs Windows XP Pro w/SP3, Intel Dual-Core 3.0 Ghz, 500 gb hd, ATI Radeon HD 4850, was built 1-2 years ago

• Computer B runs Windows XP Pro w/SP3, Intel Dual-Core 2.5 Ghz, 350 gb hd, ATI Radeon HD 4830, was built a year ago (as a back up/secondary)

WoW is the only game I play on either computers.

I began having problems with Computer A a couple of weeks ago, when my video card started running hotter and hotter each day. I noticed this because the fan (which is usually silent) started getting louder and louder. I checked the temp and fan speed using ATI's Catalyst, and noticed that the card was running about 60° C idle, and 80° C while playing WoW.

Last week, the numbers jumped to 85° C idle and 100°+ C while playing! So I decided to let it rest a while, and decided to use Computer B. As soon as I hooked up Computer B and turned it on, I heard the fan go crazy and checked Catalyst. The exact same thing! 85°C idle and when I load... Read more

A:HELP!! It's a bit complicated...

The common denominator in the PC's seems to be the ATI Radeon HD 4830 and drivers for it.

Have you got the latest drives for that card

Hello to all of you and thanks in advance,

I am running Windows XP on my laptop, and have been having issues with my Internet Explorer. I get a message saying 'IE cannot display the webpage'. And as the address, under properties, it is displayed as 'res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm#' then it gives the name of the actual site. I had a few registry and file errors, but they are now fixed...(was forced to access IE via the windows update, then went to homepage, because it would not run out of the desktop or start menu) Now I cannot view any webpages at all. It is not my home wireless system, because I am at the library right now, and the same thing is happening. Please help!

A:So Complicated

Hard to know, but I'm guessing your default printer is the Microsoft XPS (or something like that). You'll need to make sure your default is the one you actually are trying to print onto. That should solve the problem. If not, I'll try to give it more of a look when I'm back on my normal computer this evening.

All I want to do is copy a folder from 1 W10 computer to another but I cant see how/ When I try it asks me for a user name and password but I have no idea where or what they are! If I get both computers on the same homegroup it tells me that I don't have permission on the destination folder. Isn't this what computers are supposed to be for? All I want to do is copy a folder from one desktop to another.
This bl**** operating system is driving me mad.

A:How complicated can it BE

What is the folder please

If it just one and you KNOW for certain you can install it on the other computer - by that I mean it does not contain settings for the source computer - such as your user folder would then the easy and simple way is
An external storage media, like a USB flash drive, is a good helper for transferring files. Plug the USB into the source computer, copy the files you want to transfer, then, open the USB flash drive and paste the files on. Then, plug the USB flash drive into the destination computer, use the copy and paste to move the files

For files read folder subject to the caution I issued. Copying of course by opening the folder select all - copy - go to usb right click blank space = new - folder name as you wish and then paste to that folder

(I've read all the threads in the forums here, and in countless other sites, but wondered if anyone could help.)
I got a netbook for free, perfect condition, but it had a black screen of death.
After trying to do a clean install of Windows 7, I got a black screen of death again. Tried a couple times and tried switching to Ubuntu, then Linux Mint, and a few others. All have the same problem.
About 2 USB installs in, I could load from the USB and played around with Linux Mint, but again when I went to install on HDD, the black screen froze again.
Now no matter what, it says "Missing Operating System"
I was thinking about buying/trying an SSD to replace the HDD. Do you think this will fix it? Or does this sound more like a motherboard?

Also, is there a way I can install Windows on the new SSD, then just install in the netbook? Maybe a usb caddy? So that way I'll know that the SSD is working, and it must be the motherboard?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

A:A bit complicated...

Have you checked that the RAM is seated properly and removed the hard drive and checked the slot it was in for dust/debris, and dirty contacts?

A DVD 7 install does what if attempted?

Install Linux Mint from any desktop with SATA connectors on the SSD or a spare 2.5" sata HD, is how I would handle it for quick testing, I can swap in any SATA drive into my rig in a minute flat, after a bad 7 install recently, I did just that, Linux was sweet on SSD and easily wrote 7 over it again, and been fine since.

Need someone smarter than me to solve this. This a friends Gateway GM5474 w/Vista Home Premium. He hates it because its so slow, so I thought I'd just wipe it and install clean O/S, same one.I used Dban,Wipedrive,Spotmau, showed 2 partitions, 1-10gb and the other 385gb on a 500 gb HD. Wiped, delete, format, partition(same)reinstall clean vista and everytime (least 10 times) does not ask for key(on back) and doesn't need drivers, goes back to way it was. I build all my pc's and have just built one, so I took the brand new HD out of it, wiped the drive, just used entire partition, format, ntsf and installed vista again, came back same as with the other drive,35 processes, cpu usage 6-8 %,phsical memory 25%.Did a backup of all the drivers before I wiped it,thought would need.Just wanted to get rid of all the crap that comes with it. I thought it must have a hidden, locked partition storing all the info, but with new HD, how is it coming back, not asking for drivers, all the same processes running.Unless it's stored somewhere in the bios, mobo, I have no idea.Hijack This won't let me right click for admin. Any thoughts would be appreciated.Maybe shut down or delete some stuff?

A:Is it just me,this is complicated!

Well, I guess it was toooo complicated for this TECH site, 144 people looked at this and not 1 has any idea(Jeez). Maybe I need to make it way more elementary of a question. Thought it was simple, he had all the oem crap running, so I backed up the drivers and wiped it. It has the key on back and I have a copy of Vista Home Premium,(from Tiger Direct no extras on it). Like I said above I kept wiping it and reformatting, thinking it would ask for the key and drivers but it didn't, just came back using alot of memory like when original. It's a dual core 6000+,3000 each core,2gb memory, has no apps on it. My personal pc sits on 0% and its got 50 apps on it, 4gb mem though. I f no one here can answer the question, how can I put a new HD in this Gateway(never been in here) and it still comes back up the same as with the original HD in it(thats been wiped 10 times), doesn't ask for any drivers, no mobo, chipset, nothing. Every pc I've built and loaded, first thing it HAS to have is the mobo, chipset info, then rest of drivers. I doesn't even have the graphics board installed, had to pull it cause it won't boot at all with it in,pull it out and it boots up,guessing its bad. How many processes should run on clean install of Vista with nothing installed and should it use that much memory, that should be simple question even if no one can answer the other question about new Hard drive not needing anything to run on this pc. After 4 years, I'm finally starting to see some significant performance degradation with my current setup (Amd Athlon 64 3000+, RadeonHD 3850 512 AGP, 2GB Ram) and am wondering if there is, in existence, a motherboard that offers a PCIe slot, an AGP 4x/8x slot, and support for a dual core processor (preferably of the AMD persuasion). I realize that this is a long shot, and probably a stupid question, but my budget is limited and I can't spend another 300$ on a new video card right now. Any help that anyone can offer would be much appreciated.

A:Complicated Upgrade

79 $ for a new mobo, 80 $ for a video card that matches the performance of your current one, actually exceeds it a bit. Or if you have good case cooling, 65 $ after MIR. Or then spend over 130 $ to find a board that supports AGP and PCI-E 16 (not even 2.0 standard like the new ones), supports only slow RAM, slower versions of the AMD duals, etc.
Note that the board I linked doesn't support high-end Phenom X4s.

But it would fix if i unchecked this 1 mic boost and checked it again. .. only way to fix beside rebooting..

This is really annoying basically cant use my mic.. Does anyone know why my sound messes up just from tappping or making to loud of noise thru the mic?? Any help would be much appreciated.

I've got a LG GSA-4166B, and I was gonna install Battlefield: Bad Company2, but it did not find the disc (neither on my or my dads PC, and both got this DVD-reader/writer so I went into device manager and uninstalled the driver cause I was gonna install the new one I found by googling (GSA-4166B)

However, when I did this I had to restart my PC. What happends now is that I can't, it freeze at "Shutting down"

So I tried unplug the DVD etc, still this error occured. Then I googled this problem and found a solution. However to my current problem - my DVD is showed as "Local Disc: D" in "Computer" Here's a picture: Bildr.no

And in Device manager it says "CD-rom drive" and shows a yellow icon like "Hey, something is missing" ofcourse, driver is missing so I go and update driver and press that I should select manually and now nothing happends, it just continue loading. I also tried doing a system restore, but same here: it just keep loading..

Hope someone can help me. Would be nice to be able to play Battlefield: Bc2 AND have a DVD that actually is working..

I am new here, and yes I've been googling for about 7 hours now and couldn't find anything, so I thought I would ask you guys for help.

Anyways, here's my problem. I installed WinXP Pro onto my friends computer. I got it running and everything was working fine, except that the sound wasn't working. So, I tried uninstalling the sound card which is a modem too, and rebooting but that didn't work. Then I took the sound card out, rebooted and shut it down and put it back in and restarted and that still didnt work.. I even downloaded some drivers but they weren't the right kind. But I did find the right driver and as soon as I was ready to install the drivers I started the computer back up and out of no where I got the blue screen saying the hardware (I dont know if the problem is the hard drive or sound card) needs to be configured and all that crap. So I shut it off and tried rebooting and now it can't detect my hard drive or it the computer will restart if it does detect it. I tried reinstalling the OS which took forever to start up, and somehow it did format the hard drive for a little bit but I got the blue screen in the middle of the formatting process and it said "driver unloaded without cancelling pending operations" and that partmgr.sys was the problem. I've read other peoples problems about this "partmgr.sys" and tried everything to get it to work but still I get the same problem.

I will kick off this thread by stating that I will unfortunately need some pretty point-blank instructions. I am practically computer illiterate when compared to many of the users on SevenForums. With that being said, here is what is going on as far as installation questions:

Earlier last year, a friend of mine and myself set up a dual-booting system on my Dell Inspiron 6000 (I bought it in June of 2005) which booted XP and Windows 7 RC. I'm not sure if I recall the partition being a virtual environment-type partition or not (see, I really need some help ). Naturally, the RC expired but I loved using it. So eventually I got the money to buy the upgrade (I'm a Master's student) and I have bought the Home Premium version.

From the various readings and tutorials on SevenForums, it looks as though I need to install a clean version. I've backed everything up that was on the Windows 7 side to an external hard drive, so that's all been taken care of. My question is, where is there a step-by-step tutorial that will show me how to install the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade while maintaining the partition between it and the XP?

If there is any more information that you need, please let me know and I will do my very best to get the answers for you. Thank you in advance for your time and patience.

A:Complicated Situation?

It is possible to do an in-place upgrade from the RC to final, but I do not recommend it. Doing a clean install is always a good idea.

Boot from the DVD, and install Windows 7 to the partition the Win7 RC is on now. Do not format or delete any partitions.

That's just about it. You should not lose your dual boot, but if you do, let us know, and we will tell you how to restore it.

Hope this helps,

On the second sheet, I want to be able to reference to the information I have on the first sheet so it will fill in the information and it will be in a -pretty- format. Okay I really REALLY need help here guys. Over the course of the last week I have spent my waking hours trying to figure out a solution to the problems that my laptop had been experiencing. First, let me give you a rundown of the laptop:

Sony Vaio E-Series (VPCEG25EG)
Intel Core i3 Processor

The laptop came pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Basic and when Windows 8 came out, I upgraded the laptop. Upon the upgrade, it was working fine, however as months went by, the performance became slower and slower. It all came to a head when last week, upon restarting the laptop, it showed me an “Operating System not detected” error and doesn’t progress past that. Luckily, I was able to salvage my files through a solution I found in the internet.

The next step I decided would be to re-install windows 8 using a new installation CD I purchased. When I booted up to the CD, I chose the “Custom Installation” as it allowed me to overwrite the main HDD that I could no longer get into. However, the installation got stuck on the “Installing Features” portion so I decided to force shut down the laptop. Upon retrying the installation, I noticed that it was now giving me a prompt that I could not install windows on the hard disk (the one that had previously worked), instead it was telling me that:

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk, the computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in ... Read more

I want to share my internet connection to a laptop via my wireless card.
my computer has two NIC's (a normal ethernet adapter and the wireless card)
The normal ethernet adapter is connected to a D-link 604 4 port router. (all of the 4 ports are occupied by other pc's in my house).

There are all kinds of IP conflicts and whatnot going on and I don't understand why. When I try and enable ICS on the ethernet card it tells me the IP is already being used (I went through the trouble to give everything a unique ip address by the way)
am i negelecting a special setting or step? help me.
here is a picture of the setup.

A:ICS problem. complicated too.

If you are using the default IP address scheme (192.168.0.x) on the router then it will cause confusion on the machine with wireless / ethernet. ICS uses 192.168.0.x IP address scheme. It will hand out DHCP addresses too. Prehaps changing the IP address scheme on the router to 192.168.100.x may solve the issue.

To be honest with you, I would recommend switching from a wired router to a wireless. They are many that are usually on sale. JohnWill, a moderator here, usually finds the best deals.

Last Tuesday, after installing the Game Swat4 and an WinFTP, the computer was OK. The next day almost all my icons were unresponsive, my task bar icons gone.
I have tried everything. I scanned the computer for viruses and spyware with trendmicro house call, ad-ware and bit defender and nothing is reported. The User accounts icon and the help and support buttons are unresponsive.
When I try to logon into safe mode i get a black screen (no icons).
I can run programs from the command line if I find the path.
The registered file types are almost all gone.
I used TweakUI to repair the icons and the Windows file checker with no avail.
This seems to me to be a big time hack. I have hundreds of programs installed and just rebuilding the machine will be a big time pain.

A:Win 2k Network.. A little complicated

hi cantholdmd,
Should not have too much of a problem with this.
Firstly, i would put all computers on same workgroup. Unless you are running any programs that require NETBUIE i would uninstall and run with TCP/IP only. Enabling 'File & Print Sharing', physically share a folder on each computer.
This should have all computers seeing each other !
Then, each Windows 2000 computer requires all Clients to have 'GUEST' Accounts setup to allow them to access the computer i.e. Client1 would have all other 'Clients' Usernames and passwords setup in its own 'Userlist'.
Windows 98 does not require the above configured !

If above does not work - assign addresses 192.168.0.xxx and subnet mask to all computers.
Once you have the computers seeing each other, dependant on method of Internet connection, you might have to drop the assigned IP addresses and switch to Dynamic. The above is required just to access Network properly to ensure all is working.

Basically this is my setup right now:
-a 160GB IDE Hard Drive with the W7 RC installed (daily use)
-a 80GB SATA Hard Drive with XP installed (just for W7 complications, but has files)
And heres what I want to have when I finish:
-Windows XP with all files etc. on my 160GB IDE HDD
-Windows 7 RETAIL(already bought) with all files from previous installation of 7 on 80GB SATA

I already realize that I must fully backup both hard drives onto an external HDD which I haven't done yet, but have the external HDD ready. My question is first of all what is the best option for backing up all these files for both XP and 7 (I was thinking Easy Transfer for 7?). And also how would I go about basically switching these installations from one HDD to the other?

DSL is supposed to be easy to install now, but (lucky meee!) not at my house. where i have my computer, the nearest jack is actually up by the CEILING, and it's not a regular jack with a socket for the phone line to be plugged in - it just has a (non-removable) wire coming out, and the wire is 50 to 100ft. long (which i was told is no good for dsl) and the phone plug at the end of it has a broken prong! (sorry, i don't know the proper terminology. but you can understand that this is giving me a headache )
there is another jack (normal) nearby, but it once belonged to a 2nd line that is no longer active, so there wouldn't be any way i can use that, right?

I had hitherto clicked on this so that each time I accessed my work emails from home, the site just came up automatically without having to enter my username and password.

Having recently completed a reformat and reinstallation of my laptop (on XP Home), this option is no longer there and I have to manually enter my username and password each time.

BEFORE anyone suggests turning autocomplete on, these settings are all switched on and function fine.

Have also switched on and off and on again the Protected System Storage.
Have also checked that Microsoft client is functioning.
Have also checked with work to see if they have disabled the option to save password, and they say no.
Have also looked at mickeysofts page "lost option to save password" but that doesn't correspond to my specific problem & OS.

My only feeling is that there may be some residual settings in one of my partitions (I didn't reformat all of them, only the one with the OS on it) that are creating this problem, or there is something in XP home that stops me from saving the password.

HOWEVER - I do have the option to save password *if* I access a different OWA site totally unrelated to work.

If anyone c... Read more

Whats the best solution, in an access database,
to creating a one to one relationship between two different entities:
e.g husbands and wives
i have tables of each and some forms which show details of both

is there any way of creating a button that once clicked makes the husband and wife an official(in access) couple so that details of one would show their partner's details(in forms and subforms)

any help much appreciated

A:all relationships are complicated!

You need a third table, methinks.

Table 1: Husbands
Table 2: Wives
Table 3: Marriages (which would be your "main" table)

Because, suppose we were selling cars:

Table 1: Vehicles
Table 2: Customers
Table 3: Sales

Soooo... Every time I connected a flash drive, external drive, or memory card, my computer turned the folders into shortcut files. I know how to turn them back into folders but it keeps on going back. I scanned my computer with malware bytes, spyware doctor, emisoft, avast!, and immunet and I have no viruses. Then I connected my Seagate 500gb external HDD to my computer. I went to my computer and the HDD was not listed. I went to the device manager and there it was... I read that I can use testdisk to fix this problem from the following link...
Tech Support Forum - View Single Post - Have you "lost" a hard drive, partition or files in your computer? I got to step B and it said "Disk capacity must be correctly detected for a successful recovery.
If a disk listed above has incorrect size, check HD jumper settings, BIOS
detection, and install the latest OS patches and disk drivers".. The seagate disk said 2199GB, when it is actually 500. So this is where I am stuck.. I am not very advanced with this stuff. I have no Idea what a jumper settings is. I have irreplaceable files stored on this drive that I cannot afford to lose. Any help would be greatly appreciate.

A:for me this is a complicated problem with my HDD...

Does the drive show up in "Disk Management" if so try to assign it a drive letter manually. What model is your seagate, if it is a new external it most likely is a SATA drive, and has no jumpers.

I'm having problems with my DEll inspiron B130. The infamous bcmwltry.exe application failed error keeps on popping up in the log in screen and right after i click "ok" of it's dialog box. I'm stuck in the log in screen even though I typed the right password and the error box continuously pops up. In short, I can't log in to the desktop, so "ctrl+alt+del" is obviously not a solution in my case.

I tried to repair it using the recovery console but the system insists on telling me that I am inputting an invalid password ( even though I'm very much sure that I am entering the right administrator's password. ) I don't want to resort into reformatting my laptop., I have too many important files that I have not backed up yet. Please someone help me. I don't know what to do anymore.

Hello BleepersComing here rather than a Flight Sim forum because at least part of this problem is in the comp. I think, and you guys know that stuff better. FS AutoStart is a program that shuts down unnecessary programs and services to maximize resources for playing Flight Simulator 2004. Almost everybody I know uses FSAS to start up FS2004. Today, in pre-selecting programs for FSAS to shutdown or leave running, the first one on the display list (alphabetical order) of running programs is "csrss.exe" (client server runtime process, Microsoft Corp. File v. 5.1.2600.2180 created 1/18/2006 6KB). The path is not shown. The path is shown for all other programs. It's icon is a folder, the only program with that icon. I did not select csrss.exe to shutdown when FSAS starts FS2004. I left csrss.exe running. Then, in starting up FSAS (to shut down all the programs and services that I have specified and start FS2004), the log shows a red warning message (all others are grey showing programs and services as they are shut down by FSAS). Red message says (paraphrase) can not find path for csrss.exe. This is interesting because I have not told FSAS to shut down csrss.exe so it doesn't need to shut it down or do anything to it. FSAS continues to shutdown everything I have told it to shut down, all the way to starting the main program FS2004 (fs9.cfg.exe). Then nothing happens. And nothing works. The mouse, keyboard commands, nothing works, the desktop with t... Read more

A few months ago I set a static IP address on my Windows XP PC (I'd been having trouble linking my Xbox, PC and wireless router). It didn't work like I thought, so I changed my settings back to automatic. Recently though, the PC has decided that it wants to go back to using that address (or some other fixed address) and so now nothing connects and I can't change it.

At the moment I'm trying to connect using wired and wireless connections, just because I thought it might be the wireless that was the problem so I stuck an ethernet cable in and found the wired connection to be no better. The situation is currently this:

The PC can find the router, and has all the correct settings, it just can't seem to aquire an IP address.

On highlighting the connection in Network Connections, it says in the bottom left of the screen what my IP address, subnet mask etc are. I think it's meant to say "assigned by DHCP" or something like that if it's on automatic isn't it? It says instead that I am using a 'private' address.

On going into Properties and then IP properties, the boxes are ticked for getting IP addresses and DNS etc automatically already.

In the other tab letting me set up an alternative IP address if the computer is on two networks, the "Private" address option is selected.

How can I convince the PC that it's only on one network, and so not to use the Privat... Read more

Helllo everybody!

I'll try to sketch the situation as good as possible.

Lately we are having troubles with our internet in our house. The weird part is that maybe 50% procent of the time we don't have any issues but then all off a sudden we can't reach any website due to DNS-problems.

Other times it will initially will state a DNS-problem and it can't reach the website but after maybe 10 seconds it does redirect and the website opens.

I did the ping test in command center and as said sometimes i get no packet loss other times i only get 3/4 packets received.

Where should i start to solve this problem. I have been looking trough different forums but nothing really describes my current problem.

Kind regards.

A:DNS-problems but it is complicated

Is this a problem with multiple devices at the same time or with just one device while another one still has internet access or do you only have one device using the network?

Ethernet connection(s)? Wi-Fi connection(s)?

Is the device only losing internet access or also losing local network access?

okay, here goes. Currently I am running Windows 2k pro. I have had serious issues with internet explorer lately. I think it may have stemmed from a virus I got about a week ago, but I am not sure. At first it simply would not open, so I got my brother to send me the netscape setup files and i was trying to use that to fix it.

The first thing i did was unintall IE 6 from the add/remove programs list, so that left me with IE 5. Since I don't really like 5, I tried upgrading back to six using the file from microsofts website. The installation went fine until I restarted. After I logged in, a small popup came up which was finalizing the setup and I got the error message: An error or exception occurred while calling the function "DllInstall" in "C:\windows\system32\inetcpl.cpl". I clicked on okay and it told me that explorer.exe had generated errors and would close. Since the computer would not start any further, i did a cold shutdown and restarted. It restarted fine but everything was messed up.

I cannot open outlook express.

I have gotten the error message: An error occurred loading "c:\windows\system32\browsewm.dll". The file may not have been installed or it has been corrupted.

I am constantly getting script error boxes underneath boxes that say: An error has occurred in this dialogue, Error: 29 Unspecified Error.
Which prevents me from entering anything into text boxes on google, etc...

I know that I supposedly can unistall IE6 from add... Read more

Well, this is a rather complicated problem, and I could have also posted this in the games forum, but my basic problem lies with the internet.
Here's the thing, I recently bought a D-Link WBR-2310 router, and it works pretty well. However the WBR-2310 is not in the approved list for the Xbox 360 live. Now, I can still play games online well, but my connection is suffering. In fact the tests for MTU (and I also think ICMP) failed.

Now I looked this up, and it seems I have to set up port for my 360, but that wont work unless I set up a static IP address for the 360 itself. But if I set up a static IP address for the 360, it will also ask me to manually set up the primary and secondary DNS servers. To find my primary and secondary DNS servers, I would have to call my ISP.

Now heres the problem, I use Rogers for my internet, and when I called them to ask them about this, it turns out their DNS is one that changes constantly, so there is no actual digits for it.

So now I have no clue what to do. I remember spotting some DNS servers in my searches that were apparently very efficient (and free), but I can't find them, and I do not even know how I would go around to setting up these extra DNS servers if I found them.
So can anyone tell me what I can do to properly set up these ports?

A:A Rather Complicated Issue

Usually the DNS server on a computer (or game machine) is just set to the router's LAN address. If you want them, here are the OpenDNS servers: https://www.opendns.com/start

Okay, let me explain my setup first. I have two laptops, both 7Pro, one 32, one 64. Which ever one I am using, I run through a Toshiba Dynadock powered USB hub (with audio and graphics) to a monitor and 5.1 speakers (oh, I live on a boat, so laptops are about all that fits).

I also have a Memorex external dvd player connected to the Dynadock. This is where it gets complicated. Media player won't play dvd's from the 32 bit machine, but will from the 64 bit machine, though both are using the same external player. It tells me to update the graphics driver, but it's up to date. I'm set for Region 1, as I should be, so I'm not sure what's causing the problem. (I usually just rip the dvd's to mkv anyway, but occasionally want to use the dvd player.

Any thoughts?

So for Christmas I got a 40GB Maxtor HD. I already have an 80GB drive installed as the primary master, and I've installed HD's before, so this was gonna be easy.
I hooked them up on the same ribbon cable, carefully paying attention to colour coding and such, and proceeded to plug it in to get power.
Excited for the first boot and the coming format, I hit the power switch. The drives ran, the fans ran, the thing was running, but the monitor was still in standby mode (orange light).
So, after some playing around with jumper settings, I managed to get it to a state where I could get SOMETHING on screen...the title page for the BIOS. But of course, this would not allow any input. I was effectively, stuck.
So, after some more playing around, stripping down the computer basically, I unplugged nearly everything and my 512MB stick of RAM.
Ta-da! I can operate in the BIOS! However, it would only sort of recognize my new Primary Slave HD, but reported an error. I figured that there cant be an error, since its BRAND NEW, right?
So I kept playing, hoping to get back to some sort of working state that I had before. I managed this, then got greedy and tried to put the RAM back into the system.
After I put the RAM back in (Properly, may I add), the system proceeded to fry the RAM and the monitor, again, wouldnt register the video signal.
Better yet, the LED's on the front of the case wont turn on anymore and the drives dont spin. When I hit power now, only the fans go, noth... Read more

A:Serious/Complicated Problem! HELP!

With everything that you did and tried I'm not sure that I can give you a definite answer. It could be the power supply. Check all your connections. I would strip it back down again with just the RAM and video card (if there is one) and CPU/heatsink/fan. No hard drives or optical drives, and see what you get.

Why do you think that you "fried" the RAM? How many sticks do you have?

I have a bit of a problem here.
My dad's old computer went kaput and rather than replace the hard drive, he bought a brand new industrial strength computer.  Given as how he doesn't need that, I looked at the bad computer and found that the specs were better than anything I could afford. All I needed to do was replace the hard drive, and boom.  Brand new computer better than anything I'd ever had.
So I buy a new HD and try to install windows XP on it.  Herein lies my problem.  I could format the new HD ok, but setup will not continue because I get an error saying that the CD itself is flawed, and setup can't continue.  So I have a half formatted HD.
If the problem is really the disk itself, then I could buy another, but I have a CD of  windows vista here too.  Since I can't put XP onto the computer, can I put something like Vista business or 7 onto an already half formatted HD?

You shouldn't have a problem installing Vista or Win7 as the hard drive will get re-formatted during the installation process. But you will need a valid licence for the new operating system.

Where to begin!

My computer (Asus A8Vdeluxe . AMD3.2 . 1024mb corsair ram . Geforce5900ultra . soundblaster live! . maxtor 120gb ATA/133 Hdd) Was working fine last weekend. On my desk i have a piece of wood around 0.5cm, now i slid half off the computer off this wood and it made a little thud, i thought nothing of it as the computer has with-stood bigger knocks. Since then i have had never ending problems. My games began to crash whilst playing them and certain programs started to crash aswell. It also said that my antivir had been corrupted or destroyed. My initial thought was "oh great, virus". Did a virus scan and there was 1 trojan, i removed it and continued to have problems. So i turned the pc off and removed the ram, having done this i realised that i had not completely turned the PSU off (green light still on mobo). ****..thought i messed the ram up. But after trying memtest for about 4 hours i had no errors with the ram. I ran a hdd test and it dropped over time, so i bought a new hdd and still have problems.

My current situation is: I can install Winxp Pro (original cd) fine, the computer boots fine, shows i have 1024mb ram and everything is working fine. I can not update to SP2 though, and other windows updates dont work.
